Welcome new mods! Plus a new (and enforced) 'Feedback' post flair

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 04:49 PM PDT

    New Mods!

Our latest round of mod recruitment is now over and we've selected three new mods, who are starting today! Many of you will likely recognise them from around the subreddit. Please make them feel welcome as they settle into modding. They've written their own quick introductions:

    livejamie

Hello, I'm Jamie! I'm a Closed Beta supporter who's been playing actively since Breach. If you hang out on the PoE Discord (and you should!), you've most likely run into me. I currently live in the Bay Area doing Video Game UI/UX Design for a living. I love meme builds and using energy shield when I probably shouldn't. I look forward to meeting people at ExileCon!

    jwfiredragon

Hi guys, I'm jwfiredragon. I mostly hang around on the Daily Question Threads and answer questions. I like to make dumb off-meta builds, and dislike it when they don't work. I'm looking forward to moderating this sub!

    ArmaMalum

Hey all, excited to be here! While I started playing PoE just after the Vaal expansion I've only really played PoE since Breach and haven't missed a league since! I play a new variation of a Trypanon build every league because I love a PoB challenge (don't worry it's never my league starter). 99% of my time here is in the questions thread and the other 1% is when I post my regular Things I wish I knew post every league start.

    New 'Feedback' flair

From now on, we are requiring all posts commenting on the state of the game, suggesting improvements, etc, to be flaired as 'Feedback'. This is to allow users with Reddit Enhancement Suite to filter these posts out, which has recently been a much-requested function. Please use this flair on your own posts where applicable. We will start flairing feedback posts we see that don't have the flair, and you are welcome to report such posts if you see any we've missed.

(The 'Suggestion' flair has also been removed, as suggestions are just a subset of feedback.)

    NeverSink's itemfilter - version 7.1.3 - Economy Update

I was on a diving vacation during the last 2 weeks and got back 2 days ago, so it's a good time for a new filter update!

This update is not particullary spectacular, but it improves upon all tier lists once again and also improves the general handling of league-uniques and certain divinaiton cards within the tiering algorithm/tool.

The update is highly recommended for active leagion-farmers.

FilterBlade has also received a few improvements, such as major improvements ot the stream-sound-packs and a few new sections /u/tobnac will write the detailed FilterBlade changelog in the comments.

    Filter and Styleversions

Strictness-es are filter configurations the affect how much/little a filter shows. The general rule is that: as you clear faster, you want to pick up less, because in the time you'd take care of a higher quantity of items, you can kill more monsters and get a higher chance at rare loot. You can start with Regular/Semi-Strict first (great for new players and leagues) and simply up the strictness from the option menu, once you feel like you want to see less.

    Nr Name Short Description
0 Soft Shows too much. Includes low crafting bases, magic jewellery in the endgame. Not recommended for regular gameplay.
1 Regular Shows a lot. Recommended for beginners, new leagues and slow-clearing gameplay. Shows all rares. Good for chaos recipes.
2 Semi-Strict Healthy balance. Great for new leagues and beginners and medium-speed endgame gameplay. Hides the worst rares. Good for chaos recipes.
3 Strict Hides bad-base rares and scrolls. Universal and recommended endgame strictness. Hides random gems (hold alt in the first zone if you level with it). Bad for chaos recipes.
4 Very Strict Hides most rares, scrolls, augments, armourers. Good for the endgame and for speed-farming.
5 Uber Strict Hides all low currencies and rares. Great for quantity-farmers.
6 Uber+ Strict Shows too little. Sterile screen. Hides all kind of stuff, including mediocre divination cards, all kind of crafting material etc. Recommended for speed-clearing quantity-parties or as a base for further editing. Not recommended for regular gameplay.

Styles have no effect on how strict the filter is, but change the visual and audio configuration. Find one that pleases your eye most or make your own on www.filterblade.xyz

    Style Description
Default The normal style. It uses a wide variety of colors and shadings to inform users about the drop type, value and properties.
Slick A less colorful version of the normal style.
Gaia (full restyle) Gaia is a nature-inspired style. It uses less colors, but is still very cheerful.
Vaal (full restyle) A brick, corruption, blood and gore styled filter.
Velvet (full restyle) Soft green, blue, grey and pink hues, this filter is inspired by oceanic and royal colorsets.
Blue Minor changes. Changes the color of rares to blue.
Purple Minor changes. Changes the color of rares to purple.
    Azurite A new (experimental style) - it's like a DOUBLE purple/cyan style!
CustomSounds Special style. The visuals are based of default, but the sounds are different and are provided in mp3 files. You have to copy the mp3 files too for the filter to work. You can also replace the sounds with your own mp3's to create your own soundset.

League content having an infinite ceiling is bad for the game

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 04:32 AM PDT

I will start by saying that overall, legion has been an amazing league with some very fun and rewarding mechanics. I think where Legion has run into a design flaw is the Timeless Conflicts. Timeless Conflicts basically mean that the value of the emblems to a specific person is relative to the gear that person has. And specifically, with an item as powerful as HH existing, the difference in value of an emblem to a person with/without a HH is probably close to 10x.

For comparison sake, let's consider a shaper set. A player with better gear can clear shaper faster, and with fewer deaths. But the value of a shaper set to a player with this elite gear, and to a player with worse gear but can still clear shaper, albeit slower and with more deaths, is the same. The player with elite gear will clear shaper at a faster rate, but that doesn't stop the weaker player from getting to enjoy the content.

Now let's consider an emblem set. A player with a HH can get 100s of symboled kills from a single set of emblems. A more moderate geared player will not even crack 100. So the players with HH are willing to pay a very high amount for emblems, much more so than what an average player would expect to profit from running the emblem themselves. This creates a bad dynamic where the average player now needs to pass on doing league content if he wants to be profitable.

For reference, at the moment of writing this an emblem set looks to be worth in the ballpark of 1.5-2ex. I have a reasonably well geared character, but there is no way I'm getting anywhere near 2ex of value from timeless conflicts (mostly because the jewels are so impossible to market). So I'm basically better off selling all my emblems and not playing the content. Just feels like a bad design in that only like 0.5% (or whatever percentage of the playerbase owns a HH) can profitably enjoy the end game league content.

Friendly reminder for those who suffer calculation lags

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 06:30 AM PDT

Turning off Reverb in the Audio options helps a lot with lags as the sounds don't have to be processed.

As you prolly noticed, there is a fuckton of sounds which play at the same time, it is already a bit heavy for the CPU however, if you add to that the reverb processing, it is a lot of ressources allocated for audio.

That's it, for those who didn't know / forgot, hopefully it'll help your experience.

My Hungry Obsession [Update from previous League]

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 11:26 AM PDT

[PSA] There is a bug that people that are in a "bugged instance" can't be whispered by anyone outside of his realm. This bug is in the game for years.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 05:27 AM PDT

    This is an example: https://i.imgur.com/yMUqPgi.png

He will show as offline even though he is online and playing. This sometimes happens when you message someone that is in the loading screen, but this is not the case, The messages were several seconds appart from each other and I've tested this with friends multiple times over the last years. It has been happening for at least 2 or maybe 3 years.

If you are in one of those bugged instances, only people from your realm will be able to message you. You will appear offline for everybody else. A solution is to just change instances.

This is a pain if you are in a bugged instance in your hideout, trying to sell stuff.

This bug is kinda rare I think, but since it's hard to notice since you won't get PMs, it may be more common than what I imagine.

Niko's Act9 introduction made me laugh out loud

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 01:26 PM PDT

Please convince me why farming T2 maps is different from Low Level Darkness Farming or Betrayal Blocking (Harbour Bridge)

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 10:31 AM PDT

This is a discussion about "low" level content in path of exile and the rewarding currency associated with farming such type of content.

    Some background:

Example # 1: During Delve league we had low level darkness farmers that would spam relatively low level encounters, have a relatively "pacifist" mindset using acrobatics and phasing to run around in the darkness and loot fossils and resonators. GGG nerfed this by making darkness damage nearly impossible to avoid, regardless of your HP pool.

Resulting response by GGG: 1. Low level profitability of delve - nerfed 2. Darkness farming - nerfed

Example #2: Also during delve league we had people spamming Quarry and Ossuary for "Niko" encounters grabbing sulphite (since the encounter nearly always spawned near the waypoint). Players would then remake the instance and rinse/repeat until they had sulphite. This was a mindless way of farming sulphite regardless of your purpose for needing the sulphite (be that darkness farming, or pushing high level delves). This was nerfed by GGG.

Resulting response by GGG: 1. Spammable instances with league mechanics were moved/placed further away from waypoints 2. Sulphite costs were "adjusted" at varying levels

Example #3 During betrayal league there were multiple ways to maximize profit by running specific encounters with Jun, and "blocking" other styles of encounters. Many players would target farm scarabs, pure breachstones, and crafting benches over and over to consistently make currency. Players would build high movespeed builds to run Harbour Bridge, or Ossuary in order to quickly encounter Jun and repeat as quickly as possible their currency generating loop. This was nerfed by GGG.

Resulting response by GGG: 1. Change the way "blocking" works for Betrayal encounters 2. Change the way pure breachstones level zone work (as a result of the level 100 spam)

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd now (snap back to the present):

We have white maps farming on maps that are A. open and B. Monolith spawn in a favorable place. Is this "low level" farming like darkness farming or betrayal harbour bridge spamming? I personally LOVE these styles of making currency as they give newer/poorer players clear paths to earn currency towards their goals for a league. GGG clearly does NOT like these styles of low level farming as they have (over the last year) continually nerfed repeatable, low cost, high reward, speed based currency farming.

This has had a massive shift in the way how dominant meta influencing currency farmers are playing the game (Be that Empyrian, Cute_Dog, MBXtreme, Grimro, or any of the fine fellows on Baeclast) and has trickled down into the 'rank and file' casual types like myself that get to play way less than the above mentioned content influences.

"Aha" you might say "But Iron, those other low level farming instances had zero cost requirement attached besides maps! Now low level glacial/alleyways/etc farming costs white tier maps to spam!"

While low level maps are...just that....maps, and so have some opportunity cost beyond time, they are easily sustainable regardless of atlas completion %. If playing in a trade league the currency from each of these runs is easily enough to buy plenty of replacements even if you don't want to bother with filling out your atlas completion %.

"Fair enough point, Iron" you might say "However, you've neglected to take into consideration that this is indeed a league mechanic, Delve was fixed simply by going core and not having Niko present in every instance, and Betrayal was similarly fixed by not having Jun present in every instance, therefore Monolith farming will be fixed by simply going core but not being present in every instance!"

There is a natural "nerf" that happens from an reuseable resource like a league mechanic going from every instance to a reduced spawn rate in Core POE. However, in each of the 3 above instances GGG went beyond simply moving these mechanics into Core and letting that reduction in spawn be enough. In every instance GGG has pushed for additional nerfs to reduce the feasibility of currency farming through low level repeatable content. Why will Monolith farming survive in any sort of similar iteration to what we currently have, when GGG has already displayed such a trend in nerfing Darkness Farming, Sulphite Spamming, Betrayal spamming?

    TL;DR

I'm not here to debate or discuss if low-level repeatable currency farming is good for the game, I'm already firmly planted in the 'this is a good thing' camp. I'm here for someone to hopefully explain to me how the heck this low tier mapping WON'T get tweaked/nerfed by GGG since it seems to go against GGG's philosophy regarding low level currency farming.

Thanks for your time reading, and responding!
