Policy Discussion (Part 6 - Low Effort) Posted: 18 May 2020 01:42 PM PDT Part 5 - Self-Promo resultsThis one's going to take some time to parse, The conversations last week led to over 200 comments (many quite long) and dozens of in-depth conversations with many good points. I think I can easily say there will be changes (we were expecting as much) but what and when isn't something I can say with confidence at the moment. Part 6 - Low EffortWe had the most divisive (PoE Images), we had the most confusing (self-promo), and now we have our most subjective! This week we'll be talking about the low effort rule, why it's needed, what we're thinking about it and every little thing in between. What the Low-Effort rule is fightingHopefully this should be immediately obvious but some posts are not exactly meant for discussion, or interaction in anyway really. From the common example of 'test, don't upvote' to one-line posts meant at best as a joke at-worst just to troll if you've been on reddit (or any forum really) I'm sure you've seen those at least a few times. And many times they're at the top of the list! For an in-depth explanation of why this is, low-effort posts are an extreme in the fluff principle. But for a tl;dr: a post that's read and understood in 5 seconds will gain a lot more upvotes than one that takes 5 minutes. This primarily applies to stuff like memes but low-effort posts are almost always an even greater example of this. Secondly (and also explained in the link) we aren't just moderating for the FP. Low-effort posts can flood /new, especially during a league launch. We already have very few people regularly checking /new (a problem many subs have), and rather not see them stop due to having to sift through an entire page of 'corona plague' items and similar to find a single post that they care enough to click on. Between the duplicate content rule and low-effort we try to clean up /new where we can, particularly (and you'll be hearing this a lot) during launch week and the first month of a league. Examples of low-effort postsWe actually have a list! But as is stated in big bold letters this is just a starting point and is nowhere near everything we have and will run into. Note that this list hasn't been updated as per the latest policy discussions yet. And specifically for 'player interaction posts': Scammer posts are an exception, but that gets into a major tangent so if you're curious on why ask in the comments! Current policy, known issuesLow-effort posts comes in an infinite number of shapes and sizes. So as much as we want to be more specific the low-effort is quite intentionally our most vague rule. It's not like we can interrogate someone with how long they took making something, or apply a minimum wordcount to picture posts. If we tried to write a bare minimum for every type of post/content we've seen we'd have a subsection list easily 5x the length of the entire rule page (and we already have people not reading the whole thing currently!). But of course the modteam is not a hivemind. What I consider low-effort is slightly different than what another mod thinks is low-effort and so on. We usually have quick internal discussions on posts that someone feels skirts the line or even when one mod disagrees with another's assessment (yes, removal reversals do happen believe it or not!). Our current plans for low-effortUnlike the previous discussions we already have a planned update for low-effort. As I mentioned numerous times in this post we are particularly strict on low-effort on the first half of a league and decently less-so in the second-half when the sub activity slows to crawl. Over the last few months we've talked about actually formalizing this and intentionally (as opposed to just naturally) increasing strictness on the first-half and relaxing the low-effort rule on the later half of the league. We've already experimented a bit in that regard and for the most part it seems to be working out. (not just that one post, mind you, but it's a good recent example) And that's why we're here with this discussion. How do you feel about the prospect of us formally relaxing the low-effort rule for the second half of the league? Should we do it earlier/later/not at all? Anyadditional points for/against low-effort posts that have been posted or removed? And lastly in general how do you feel about the low-effort rule? And suggestions for improvements on it? I apologize about not having more specific talking points but that's what happens with such a subjective topic. Also as a reminder next week will have the final discussion post. That will contain a summary of all previous discussions, our takeaways from them, and any plans we are looking at in regards to each. It will also act as an open forum for anyone to talk about additional discussion points we didn't get the chance to get into or really any other question or comments you may have. And after that will ideally be the beginning of teaser season! [link] [comments]
Tentative Announcement of the Announcement Posted: 18 May 2020 02:37 PM PDT We know many of you are eagerly waiting for an update about when to expect our next expansion announcement and launch. This news post will let you know the timeline that we're currently working to but also explain the tricky nature of predicting when the expansion will launch. As many of you are already aware, we have completed 8 of the 13 weeks of this development cycle from home which is a significant amount of lost time in terms of face-to-face and group collaboration. Our team worked hard to quickly adjust to the new work paradigm but there have definitely been some difficulties in working this way that have made development a little slower. Due to this, we have already internally delayed the expansion's launch by one week from its originally-expected launch date. It is very important to us that we release a high-quality expansion in June, and we will take the time to do this if we feel that we need an additional week or two. While we tried hard to achieve this within our regular 13 week schedule, development certainly has not been business-as-usual over the last few months. We are currently planning to announce the 3.11 expansion on June 2 at 2pm (PDT), roughly two weeks from now. This means that we're working toward a launch date of June 19 for PC and June 24 for console. However, it's extremely important to note that more so than any past expansion, it's very possible this launch will be further delayed. The pandemic has made safely predicting the release date of this league very difficult. There's currently a reasonable possibility that the expansion will be delayed by an additional week and a low chance that it will be delayed further beyond that. We usually prefer to only make these kind of timelines posts when we're more sure of a date but feel that as more time passes, the more people would become frustrated with not knowing what to expect, so it feels important to at least make you aware of the tentative nature of these things. In good news, for this announcement you can expect our usual trailer, development commentary, journalist coverage and announcement page. However, we're spicing things up just a little bit! When our announcement goes live, ZiggyD will be streaming our trailer, his inside coverage of the expansion and then hosting a live Q&A with Chris Wilson about the upcoming content. This is an hour-long event that you'll be able to view live on Twitch! More details to come. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 May 2020 01:02 PM PDT So in a fantastic stream of ideas, I stumbled upon a 3.8 build where you are completely invisible. It relied on self-curse Temp Chains, which got a pretty serious nerf, but not enough where it's not possible. So, allow me to describe The Invisible Man, 3.10 Edition, PoB: https://pastebin.com/SMQtRMUc Here's how it works. To be invisible, you need 100% reduced visibility. There are three sources of reduced visibility, each giving 50%, so you need at least 2 active to be invisible. 1: Phase Run. Phase Run's duration starts at 1.8, cooldown of 4 seconds. It's fairly trivial to make the duration longer than the cooldown, especially with what is coming later. 2: Aspect of the Cat (Cat's Stealth edition). Sadly, Cat's Grace also exists, and has a longer duration than Cat's Stealth, so while it's good in a pinch, it can't be counted on without weapon swap shenanigans. 3: Shade Form, granted by Shroud of the Lightless. It has a 20% chance to trigger when you use a socketed skill, it lasts for 3 seconds, and has a 45 second cooldown. This is the problem that needs solving to make the build function. So if you can get Shade Form's duration longer than its cooldown, then between Shade Form and Phase Run, you will be completely undetectable. This is accomplished with a healthy smattering of duration on the tree, Malevolence, and a Chaos DoT Multi medium cluster jewel, as well as a traditional Temp Chains self-curse setup and 5 curse effect medium cluster jewels on top of all the curse effect on the tree and on gear that you can get. And to finish it off, a Flow Untethered belt for 20% cooldown recovery. So now, Shade Form lasts 39.5 seconds and has a cooldown of 37.5 seconds, giving you 2 seconds to trigger a 20% trigger chance. It's a small window, but doable. This is sufficient to start being invisible. However, you need to maintain Temp Chains while pushing as few buttons as possible. Remember, using a skill removes Phase Run's visibility buff. Herald of Thunder will keep applying Temp Chains, as long as you're killing shocked enemies. So now you need damage, again while pushing as few buttons as possible. With all the duration, as well as Malevolence buffing DoTs, Poison Blade Vortex works very well. The original build used Arakaali's Fang and the spiders from it, which isn't bad, but the Occultist version of the build doesn't scale the damage well. Is the build good? Maybe. I'm not used to builds with interlocking mechanics, especially ones that weren't intended to be used together. Watching cooldowns and buff timers instead of the map isn't for everyone, and I'm not certain it's for me. Oh, and one more thing: You are invisible, not invincible. Here are some things that have killed me: Porcupines, burning ground, failing to trigger Shade Form in time, Disintegrator charges (Shade Form gives phys immunity, so if you trigger it, you're safe from Disintegrator), lightning shrine, skeleton shrine, and being in a party with someone. Theoretically, it's a boss build, if you can get to the boss. I'm not a successful currency boy, this was what I spent the last of my league currency on. It's fun science, it's not necessarily powerful, but I'm happy to have participated in the scientific process. If anyone wants me to try out various boss fights to see how being invisible affects them, let me know. So far, I tried Brine King at the end of Act 6, and yes, Nessa can smell the stench of exile in the air and activates the boss fight. [link] [comments]

[Video] RaizQT Rip to Sirus - China Race Event Posted: 18 May 2020 12:12 AM PDT

The China race is coming to one of the closest conclusions in racing. Posted: 18 May 2020 01:13 AM PDT It will probably go down to the wire on a 10 day event. You can check the XP ladder in this https://baconrad.github.io/poe-racing/ For those who dont know, you get 1 point for every level plus some bonus points for certain bosses. 3 for Awakener 8; 2 for Delve Vaal Boss; 1 For Shaper; 2 for Uber Elder and 2 for Uber Atziri. Dying voids all your points, so you get 0. Current Situation: RaizQT : Currently 98, will be 99 at the end of the race. Has killed the delve boss. So looking at 101 points in total. He died on his boss killer, so he will not be doing any more bosses as its too risky on his Archmage build. Gucci : Similar situation as Raiz, 99 + Delve boss. 101 points, so it will likely be a straight XP race between them. Steelmage : Currently 98, but will likely push 99 when he comes online. Has killed shaper and is still looking for the Delve boss. He has A8 ready and a build that can do it, but its a big risk with the ping and no voice lines on china client. Currently looking at 100 points, with +2 for delve boss and +3 for awakener. Steel can end up at 105 making him the highest, or if he might not find the delve boss and cant do awakener, meaning he will not even make top 3. Goratha : A few hours behind on Levels, just hitting 98 at the time of this post. Has done the delve boss. Does not have Shaper maps yet. Says he will mostly not do Awakener. So he is looking at 101 points if he hits 99 and likely 102 if he does shaper in the last few hours. Havoc : Behind on XP, but he likely has a Herald stacker as hes a Guardian on a Private profile. Depending on his bossing situation, can be rank 1 at something as low as level 97. Apart from our International Gamers, several Chinese players are pushing. 无双O战斗天使 (Rank 2 Jugg): Will be 99 at the end, HoAG jugg so unlikely to die. He has done the delve boss, unsure about other bosses. https://www.douyu.com/3813783 His stream link. If anyone knows more about this gamer, please share. There are also some other chinese juggs pushing xp like crazy and I am unsure about their bossing at the moment. In summary: Time Left: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?day=20&hour=00&p0=47&msg=China+Race&font=cursive [link] [comments]
How do China feel about the race being open to westerners? Posted: 18 May 2020 11:03 AM PDT Does anyone here who speak Chinese know how the attitude is over on there on the servers? Do they feel cheated out of the rewards or are they supportive of it? [link] [comments]
Request: Saboteur Ascendancy for something other than mines/traps Posted: 18 May 2020 01:17 PM PDT I think Born in the Shadows is one of my favorite ascendancy points and I would love to take it on a melee build, but Saboteur is pigeonholed into traps and mines. I'd love to see it have a couple extra paths that open up more opportunities, especially for a sneaky slice and dice style of gameplay. It could sabotage enemies by applying debuffs to them that reduces their damage/movement speed or increases damage taken. It could garrote enemies and make the bleed/poison tick faster. It could reverse buffs enemies have, corrupting blood heals you, proximity shield increases damage taken, resistance aura adds elemental penetration to themselves, etc. [link] [comments]

It is literally the only animation mine ever does. GGG Please. [link] [comments]
Can we have more ways to upgrade breachstones? Posted: 18 May 2020 11:47 AM PDT It would be nice to be able to upgrade them without strictly using It the Fled. Also currently it doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade anything other than chayula to pure either. [link] [comments]
