Path of Exile Builds Let's talk about Stormbind

Path of Exile Builds Let's talk about Stormbind

    Let's talk about Stormbind

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:30 PM PDT

Buckle up, because this turned out long. TL;DR: I think there's a lot of potential here that people aren't exploring because the skill feels clunky at first.

Since the start of this league, it's been my stubborn obsession to make Stormbind work well. I think I've done it (keyword think -- I don't play a ton). Here's a rough POB based off my own character but with some of the supports and gem levels idealized, though I haven't worked on itemization. I'm sure there is plenty of optimization to be done both there and on my passives.

So far I've done up to T10 maps with no trouble save the occasional Delirium death from something I can't see. I haven't had higher maps drop yet, but everything dies immediately, including some metamorphs (literally one-hit). It feels very good in most scenarios.

Before I go into everything, I want to suggest that it probably does better with totems, but there are a few things I want to do before switching. I'll cover those later.

I want to throw out a number of observations that make Stormbind weird:

    Scaling the base damage

    • AOE overlap is a huge deal for dealing sufficient damage. You'll be throwing out a bunch of runes, so it's important that as many as possible hit their targets. Not sure what the minimum is for a rune to hit from two runes away, but that's probably required.
    • For reference, here's the AOE units diagram. A fully-empowered rune in this build has 36 units. Unimproved has 26. Looks like empowered runes will hit from 3 away, unimproved from 2. That's a max of 36 and 25 runes, each.
    • Casting speed is another major factor. When your runes will generally all overlap, the more you can throw out, the better.
    • The high cast speed also means you can treat your cursor as a kind of paintbrush of death. You'll be making a lot of sweeping motions if you want to maintain good clearspeed.
    • You might think you should run Herald of Thunder, but this actually lowers your damage when you use the new shield spell, Arcane Cloak. Pop this on bosses for damage when you need it. It doesn't interrupt channeling, so it won't trigger Rune Blast.

    Scaling Rune Blast

    • You typically don't need to charge this at all. Just right-click to pop the runes and watch the screen explode.
    • Building around Rune Blast can drastically alter the effectiveness of single-target damage. By my calculations, the linked build has about 70% more dps casting rune surge on existing runes than creating new runes. However, it sucks before you equip...
    • Doedre's Malevolence is far-and-away best in slot for its effect on Rune Blast. The flat +50 mana cost (doesn't get multiplied by anything) is vital to powering up your runes, and nothing else I'm aware of comes close, because...
    • Rune Blast doesn't allow very many supports. As a result, you need to run a separate 4-link to have any kind of multiplicative effect at all. Even with supports, the majority of the cost comes from the gloves.
    • An alternative support setup might be on a 5L staff, with faster casting, arcane surge, CWC, conductivity, and infused channeling. Blood magic will also support it, but the huge cost makes this seem like a bad idea. You could put another skill into the 6th slot for some extra clear or utility if you wanted. You could put two spells in (or a spell and support) if you had a 6L staff with built-in Faster Casting.
    • Self-cast Stormbind has the distinct advantage that it can be pre-cast to inflict a lot of damage when an enemy becomes targetable.
    • Blink spells can be cast while channeling without interrupting the channel (or at least frost blink can be). Useful for laying a trap and then drawing an enemy into it, such as a boss, in a sense precasting your damage.

    Endgame Items

    • The obvious choice here is Indigon in the helm slot. This will take your damage to crazy heights, as the mana cost scaling will charge your runes faster. The typical downside of this item just scales your dps further, kind of like with Archmage.
    • Fevered Mind also seems like a good bet, but I'm worried that the mana costs could spiral too quickly.
    • As the build lacks much physical damage reduction, it might be good to get % physical converted to some element.
    • Stack penetration. At present, the build suffers on enemies with high lightning resistance, but there are plenty of items out there to grant that. They're just costly.
    • Less costly but probably not ideal is the Agnerod with 20% penetration.
    • A hyper-offensive build might go for Carcass Jack, though I again advise opting for phys conversion. With helm slot taken by Indigon, your best bet for this is on the chest slot, probably with Lightning Coil.

    Damage Totals

There are some more complex calculations that could be done here, but I'll make things simplistic:

    • This build in its current state deals 3.78M dps just channeling Stormbind itself, assuming you blow it up before you start wasting runes.
    • Assuming there are runes to be charged, the build deals 6.4M dps while channeling Rune Blast.
    • These numbers are slightly inflated by the guard skill, but good usage of it will maximize its uptime during critical portions of the fight.
    • These numbers will skyrocket with an Indigon equipped.
    • This is a lot of damage...

    Totems???

Thus far I've been playing self-cast. This has a few advantages:

    • Pre-cast on bosses
    • Leech (both life and ES)
    • The best offensive ascendancy picks are also pretty defensive - you lose a ton of AOE and ES
    • Harder to fit Arcane Surge with totems unless you go for a 2h staff (important for mana regen)
    • I don't like totems

However, with Indigon scaling your mana usage and damage, the dps from Rune Blast compared to Stormbind will become much higher. The continual runes from totems will allow you to charge Rune Blast whenever you want, and generally speaking this seems like the ideal scenario.

I found an Indigon Calculator that seems to show that by the time you have cast for a total of 1.1 seconds in the last 4 seconds, you will be charging all 9 runes simultaneously, which is effectively the max (I think - not sure if it spreads past the 3x3 square).

Simultaneously, if you summon all 4 totems, they will be laying down 44 runes per second collectively at 133k/rune. If you were to detonate all of them at all times, that would be 5.8M; however, you deal 10.7M dps while channeling Rune Blast, more if it scales beyond the 3x3, and that's not including Indigon spell damage (133k/rune * 9 runes * 9 times/second).

THANKS FOR READING MY BOOK-LENGTH POST

There's a lot of damage here. I think it merits more builds.

What's pulling ahead this league for bossing ?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:49 AM PDT

Looking to roll a second character as a bosser and have almost no idea what builds are top tier for it this league. Mainly for Sirus 8 and Uber Elder, Shapers.

    Top Tier endgame builds?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:55 PM PDT

So I've noticed that almost all videos and lists are about league starter builds. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of info on one the strongest builds to invest into for endgame are. I have like 8 ex of currency now and I'm looking to start investing into my "endgame do-it-all" char.

    From what I've gathered the absolute strongest builds atm are;

    -Archmage Stormbrand (Arc?)

    -Impale Cyclone

    -Poison Blade Vortex

    -BL Miner

    -Pathfinder Wander

Anywho, I might be completely off here, I just want to know what the absolute stronkest builds to invest into are.

    Thanks in advance!

Cyclone/Impale Variants: Budget, Damage and Defense Compared

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:24 AM PDT

I am posting the Metamorph version of these builds, currently I haven't seen a cluster jewel set up that is clearly superior to the older version. We will see as new league characters become more geared and we figure out the optimal set up with Deep Cuts.

    Winner: Resolute Technique Facebreaker Champion

    https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2739459

I tried find this build guide to be the best overall balance of budget, damage and defense. Resolute technique facebreaker cyclone, 7K health and max elemental/chaos resistance, 2-3 million CONSISTENT shaper damage without flasking or unrealistic conditions like blood rage frenzy charges against boss, emergency healing from adrenaline which also removes all the debuffs that can potentially kill you, permanent fortify which is a god send vs Sirus or any boss that you can't hit for a while.

You can make it even more crazy with the ultra expensive Aul pride amulet and pride watcher, but the build is great without them. Or you can try to squeeze Pride in with Herald of Purity mana reservation Circle of Guilt's.

    Other Popular Variants:

    a) AulForBreakfast Delve 2000 - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2777973

Similar concept, but uses triple purity of fire/ice/lightning instead of flesh and stone + maim to be even more tanky, very little chaos resistance. Without crazy 100-200EX gear, my damage felt way too low and without chaos resistance I also died to a lot of stuff. When I tried to add chaos resistance my damage got even lower. Only recommended if you want to go far deeper than delve 1000.

    b) Rigwald/Crit Facebreaker Cyclone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUDW14Zybis

20% MORE sustained damage, 50% MORE burst damage but substantially less defense. If you want more damage than the resolute technique build, this is it. The biggest damage increase comes from the diamond flask which allows you to delete bosses quickly.

    c) Dual swords impale/cyclone - https://poe.ninja/metamorph/builds/char/tiru87/Tiruchamp

Unless you have Paradoxica/Savior, or a pair of 600 PDPS swords, this build is just VERY weak compared to facebreaker with shield. And even with this gear, you are probably better off going flicker strike and double strike for insane mapping speed. Your damage even with GG gear is not THAT much higher than Rigwald/Crit Facebreaker cyclone to justify the loss of defense.

    d) Dual claw with Bloodseeker - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2775438

Far and away the best ultra budget option. With just Wasp's Nest and Bloodseeker instant leech, you will be able to cruise through T16 maps. Lower damage than Facebreaker variants but much cheaper as you do not need Circle of Guilt's. Recommended league starter.

    MF/Clearspeed builds in 3.10

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 02:47 AM PDT

I really like playing somewhat squishy build with high clearspeed but which one is worth making in 3.10? Didn't play POE since legion, back then tornado shot builds were dominating, but as far as I know, tornado shot was nerfed to the ground after 3.7. Are tornado shot builds still viable? If not, which build would be best for fast map clearing, possibly combined with MF gear?

    Cheeky build idea

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:56 PM PDT

This is just a napkin idea but I think it would work and actually be hilarious to pull off.

So the concept is to use a skill that benefits off of having less area of effect, the only skills I could think of were Icestorm/Firestorm and Glacial Cascade. For my iteration, I will use Glacial Cascade.

You want to stack medium cluster jewels that have Intensity & Towering Threat (or Assert Dominance).

Intensity gives +1 to stacks of Intensify, which give 16% more area damage and 12% less area of effect per stack (base is 4 stacks). Having a smaller area of effect benefits our boss damage heavily with Glacial Cascade, as every wave will hit, doing absurd damage if you can manage to get it small enough.

For clearing, you could easily put on a Herald of Ice and link it up, and since you're building a ton of AoE, it will be huge.

I think this build would work insanely well for bossing & clearing, but not sure I have enough time to play it myself since I have a lot of other meme builds to try out, so I figured I would share it with you guys.

    Additional crafted modifiers beyond 3

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:55 PM PDT

This is my second league and as a result I'm still getting the hang of a lot of the more complex aspects, like crafting. This league I'm playing ED-trickster following this guide: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2606026

A big part of the guide is how to craft the bow that the build recommends. I've managed to follow the steps described and managed to get this beauty.

It did literally double my dps, which felt amazing. I did notice however that the weapon in the guide has additional affixes (seemingly crafted) on it and I was curious if there is something more I can do to this bow.
In general I'm wondering if there is anything missing that could min/max the bow? I believe that I could use an exalt on it to fill up the missing affix-slot, but if I understand correctly then this would only add "bow"-affixes and after looking at those, non seem super useful.

    Insane Juiced Mapping Build

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:34 PM PDT

Ok so I'm thinking of juicing some maps this league like t16 insane maps with 5 delirium orbs and scarabs and stuff but I need a build that can handle that. Probably like 50ex budget for endgame right now I have an impale champion and a tectonic slam Juggernaut both good builds but I feel like the impale champ lacks tankiness and the jugg lacks a bit of damage.

    opinions?

    Questions About Volatile Dead Spellslinger

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 06:42 PM PDT

Currently about to finish leveling a Necro VD spellslinger and I'm still kind of unsure about a few things.

First off is there an attack speed value I should be aiming for? I'm using Barrage + Faster attacks to trigger currently (plus I have a Lightning Golem). My Character Sheet says I have 1.36 Attacks per Second.

Is it normal for the first attack to not trigger VD or inconsistently trigger VD? It seems like I'm either missing triggers or the VD is targeting corpses in a very odd and inconsistent way. I'm not sure if this is how it's always worked when triggering VD or if I'm doing something wrong. Is there no way to control the order spells trigger with Spellslinger?

The damage is great but it feels odd to play at times. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Help my first RF build

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:34 AM PDT

This is my first build attempt and I decided to try an RF build focusing on the new jewel clusters. Goal is to scale off DoT instead of pure life. It's only my second league of POE, and I've never played RF so I'm still pretty noob XD

So far I'm at level 74 and stuck on T9 maps. I'm occasionally getting one-shot by the bosses as well. Please help and let me know if I'm doing something stupid, and what I can focus on. My budget right now is only about ~50-75 chaos unfortunately. Hoping to farm up more as I progress along with the build.

I know my EHP is abysmal right now. Guess I should've spent more points on life first rather than focusing on the cluster jewels right off the bat. Was thinking I could tough it out until lvl 80-85ish and start allocating the life nodes in my plan.

    Cyclone CWC SRS theory

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:19 PM PDT

I am learning to make my own build but way harder than I thought when I'm poor and barely know the standard. Any advise it or suggestions are much appreciated.

    POB skill tree

For gearing: I know nothing about unique, and reading all of them seems ridiculous. The only thing I have in mind that might be useful is the Queen's Decree. Maybe all rare afterwards. Edit 1: Queen hunger for the auto offerings

For defensive mechanism: Got some health from tree but that's it. At most a cwdt - immortal call - chaos golem -, increased duration.

For skill link: Cyclone - CwC - SRS - infernal legion - increase minion damage/spell echo/ increase minion health (Default 5 link because poor) Leap slam - AS - fortify - culling strike Or Flame dash - arcane surge Cwdt - Immortal call - chaos golem - increased duration

Not sure if I should add Spectre - blood magic For power and frenzy charge then a 5 link zombie or just a 5 link Spectre for damage.

Doesn't need to be very strong, hopefully around 1Ex, and able to survive till endgame with ok or a bit slow clear speed.

Problem with my single target dps

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:06 AM PDT

Clearing everything up to tier 16 maps with ease until i hit the boss My sjngle target dmg is very bad ans im not able to survive while dmging the boss. I have double strike with close combat, fortify and ruthless for single target. Any ideas how to improve it? • 75% block chance / 50% spell block
    • 4772 es
    • 477 es leech on hit
    • Vaal discipline
    • Arcane cloak
    • Ivory Tower for chaos + getting close to 2k mana regen + flask

Need help with my Elemental Hit single target damage

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 03:45 AM PDT

    https://pastebin.com/pHyczPNb

This is my where my build is currently at. A tad bit squishy but it clears red maps really well. Problems start when i need to dps targets with the single target setup which should be doing much more damage then it does at the minute.

It takes me around 3 minutes of kiting to kill a t13 map boss with mediocre mods, staying close enough for the Chin Sol's and Point Blank's damage modifiers to work while also weaving in the clear Elehit to apply ignites and keep Mirage Archer up for more deeps.

I honestly am clueless to why the singletarget is so damn low, and so I reach out to you good reddit people to try help me figure this out.

Any other improvements/suggestions are also more then welcome.

Thanks and have a good day and happy quarantine :)

What is the build that has the most survivability?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:16 PM PDT

I have some friends who play HC every ladder and they play DPS champions. I am trying to get someone to play with them but I keep dying. So I figured I can play the tankiest or one of the tankiest builds in the game and just let them do most of the damage. I was just wondering what that was.

    Building around abyssal cry

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 02:59 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I find Abyssal Cry a very fun skill to use, but with its long cooldown, not very usable.

With the release of the Second Wind support, it is possible for Warcries to have two charges, and with the new Cluster Jewel, it is possible to scale Warcires even more. I am looking for suggestions for ascendancies and single target skills that could well synergies with Abyssal cry. The idea is to have a single target setup almost always up, and clear mostly with abyssal cry.

The problem is that scaling abyssal cry is really annoying : it can only be scaled with generic damage, area damage, chaos damage. It can also scale a bit with poison and minion damage with the right notable.

The two option I see fort the moment is some kind of poison pathfinder (better tree) or poison berserker (better warcry synergy) => trees https://pastebin.com/3yjax2R6

Both trees are very rough, and leaves around 20 points for cluster jewels.

I'm open to any suggestion making this project somewhat viable

    crafting question

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:29 PM PDT

Im pretty new to crafting and all the stuff you can do in the game. So after i did some research here is what i think would be best.

https://gyazo.com/cf928c4e66d21007f2f05f7ee6aecf9a this is my bow right now (good base but pretty shit mods etc). and i decided i want to put some currency into it because i really enjoy playing this char rn.

So here is what i plan to do: try to annul the shit out and multimod it. But now i got some question about quality. I did some research and from what ive found online i think you can do hillock bench into 10% fossil (i know my stats would reroll its fine anull will probably fail :D) into then veiled quality mod is this correct? (basically im curious about ways to upgrade quality on my bow if it would annul projectile speed and accu out and let me put adds x to phys and veiled attk speed q on it or if it fails what is the way to make it "highest" quality ) . My budget is about idk 15 exalts but i do want to play other chars so cheaper the better. Ty
