Posted: 19 Jul 2020 02:21 AM PDT First of all, english is not my native language, so sorry in advance for any mistakes. Also, this post is intended only to show my opinion on the subject of player retention because of the recent Baeclast. I'm not a noob player in any way. I'm 45, and I've been playing videogames for more than 30 years. Also, I've been playing PoE for 3 years. I'm not a causal PoE player. I usually play every leguae for at least 2 months, try several builds, and complete all of the endgame lots of times. I achieve 36 challenges in almost every league and end up with several hundreds of exalts. Also, I buy almost every league at least one supporter pack. On last Baeclast Chris Wilson talked about player retention, and he pointed out harvest crafting being too much easy or powerful as one of the possible causes of lower player retention. Imo, this league's low player retention is more about no specific league mechanic (playing the game feels a lot like playing standard, besides the groove crafting) and not because of the new crafting system. As it has been said in this post I also think that there's a disconnection between the majority of the player base and the top players, but I do not want to discuss that topic here. All I want to talk about one of the main reasons that makes me play a league for longer or shorter time. The possibility of trying and playing new builds. This is the KEY factor for me. I love PoE for several reasons, but one of the most important is the great possibilities of playing different builds. The gem and passive tree systems if simply amazing. I love trying a new build and always have several ones in mind to try. As I said I'm no casual player, but I'm not a hardcore player that plays 6 or more hours a day. I have my job, my partner, my house, friends and family. I play PoE almost every day, but it's not a job for me. It's my hobby. PoE, in it's current state, it's absolutely dependant on trade for the vast majority of players. If I want to play a build, I must farm the currency needed to buy the items for that build. Yes, there's the possibility to craft your own items. But let's be realistic, for the majority of players, normal crafting it's not an option. It's to much rng and time consuming. Delirium league was a permanent loot/currency explosion. It was so easy to get currency, that I was able to buy items for trying different builds. Because of that, this was my first league where I got 40 challenge and played one character to level 100. But in other leagues, when I get bored of my character and want to play a new build, I have to get enough currency to buy new items. I do that for 3, 4 or 5 characters, but after 1 month more or less, it becomes boring. Harvest crafting makes something that it's, imo, absolutely amazing. It gives the average player the option to progress by himself not depending almost exclusively on trading. For me, trade should be a complement, a way to get some items, but not the main way to equip your build. tldr; Make the game more deterministic, give the majority of players the option to progress in game by themselves, not depending almost exclusively on trading. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable, and it gives more options to play several builds and enjoy more the game. [link] [comments]

I wish GGG would change the potion spam- it's a bit hard for people with carpal tunnel. Posted: 18 Jul 2020 03:41 PM PDT Hello, so to start off I unfortunately have some wrist problems due to the line of work I've been in over the years. I have a mouse and a keyboard designed for supporting the wrist first and foremost. (thumb has a rolly ball) With the potions in this game, most end game builds spam 3-5 of them constantly. I had asked GGG in an email if an autohotkey script could be written to allow all of them to be a sequence for every button push on just one key instead of 3-5 like it currently requires and they told me no. Something like that would have worked for my mouse. (So as an example, i push 1 on the keyboard, ahk pushes 2. I push 1 again, ahk does 3. I push 1, 4 and then it resets. That's what I asked them) As far as I can tell, there is no option in game to allow for binding multiple keys to one button. I was told that this provides an advantage to players by their support. I'm honestly not sure I believe that, but I do know that repeatedly reaching out to rake or press multiple keys as quickly as you can every 5-10 seconds causes you to move your hands quite a bit and in an awkward way, especially if you have multiple spells bound and force walk on a keyboard key (which is common to do from what I've seen on twitch and youtube). I feel like if it IS providing an advantage to a player, that advantage coming from sacrificing your hand's health is something I worry other players will come to regret later in life :( Have you guys found a solution to this? Does GGG listen to requests like this? I saw they made a lot of QoL changes to the harvest map- have people brought what I'm saying up with them to see if they can try to support players that are concerned about this? edit: what if i just smash my face against the keyboard instead guys? Maybe that's how it was meant to be all along. Well, that's what I think the people telling me to quit gaming over this have been doing at least.. edit 2: oh man or what if I got some driving sim pedals, like 4 of them. 2 for my feets and 2 for my cheeks. I can get the nice ferrari remake ones. (this is a joke if you like pedals i'm glad. my cat will 100% eat the cables tho like hes at a spaghetti buffet.) [link] [comments]
Why doesn't PoE iterate on and upgrade old mechanics instead of just putting "new" ones? Posted: 19 Jul 2020 06:56 AM PDT I am not talking about "buffing Torment ghosts" or anything, I am talking about thematically and gameplay-wise improving old leagues and adding new stuff on top. Good existing example: Sacrifice of the vaal>Incursion. Both vaal themed, both expanded on vaal stuff and corruption, feels great. Yet it seems most new leagues have a theme of:
Examples of this are Delirium, Metamorph, Legion, Betrayal, Delve etc. Tons of small mechanics with their own currencies, same idea that received no improvements (You won't get 300 delirium splinters and you won't even get 5 orbs needed for fully juiced map until you get 36/40 challenges as evidenced by some posts here, Metamorph laboratory fights still meaningless and too easy, Legions are still "pop vaal ice nova" and you will never going to see the 5-way fight, Betrayal still doesn't reward high ilvl fights, Delve is a sad sad piece of content that could've been an alternative to mapping or better, best you can hope is that a league gets added as encountered to a node 1 year after it has been released). It's like a bunch of "cool idea" mechanic after mechanic that just clutter the game endlessly with their "currencies" and get boring after couple repeats, with only "saving grace" being that there are 50 of them per map, if you wish so. And then they say they'll remove one of the actually cool ones that is cool, doesn't drop unnecessary splinters and flows with regular gameplay (Beyond). Basically what I'm saying is that I'd rather have couple of cool "expansions" that get improved with new stuff (Vaal stuff, Harbinger could've been an upgrade to Invasion etc.) instead of 50 different minigames, NPCs and interactables. I mean ask a new player that just started mapping why does he need to defend these towers, then follow some crack in the ground, followed by some random unique mobs (RIP Warbands) that pop up with some purple text, followed by some NPC that pops up and teleports you to a temple with time limit, followed by playing connect 4 in a garden. What do you think? [link] [comments]
