Harvest Has Me Addicted to Crafting

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 10:52 AM PDT

After a long (1.5 years) break from playing PoE as my main game, I returned to play Harvest. The new Atlas end game is great. The new masters are cool, and the master mission systems is wonderful.

For the first few weeks, I enjoyed all the content and largely ignored the Harvest mechanics. As I began to complete Triumphs, I started to plant T2 and T3 seeds, craft benches, and do what needed to be done to get 24/40.

Along the way, I got hooked. Mega hooked.

I never thought I'd have a +% Max Cold Resist, +% Max Lightning Resist, % Life Gained on Block Shield. I never thought I'd care to unlock "suffixes cannot be changed" or scour POE DB for crafts. I never thought I'd have a 4xT1 Astral plate. I never thought I'd eagerly play through the logic of how to perfect a piece of gear. But I"m doing it, and loving it more than any component of the game.

I have totally foregone trading. The economy of the game is the main appeal to many, but searching trade sites and messaging dozens of seller to get a hit is not my idea of fun. I feel like I've earned my gear this league, and using my brain to get the gear I want has made me care far more about my character, my build, and how it plays.

If I can get the unique maps to drop (or buy them), I may get all my bonus and awakener objectives done this season. This is largely due to the fact that equipping a peice of gear you made makes playing, and feeling, the difference it makes so much more enjoyable.

Thakn you for a great league. I think GGG gave us 3 solid months of content and experimentation in the Garden, and I plan on using the entire league to explore crafts and see what is possible.

    I don't think I can go back

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 01:52 AM PDT

For me personally, they have opened pandora's box and there's no way for me to go back and enjoy the game without harvest crafting, hence why I fear that harvest might be my last league until a major crafting overhaul finds its way into the base game. https://old.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/htxr1k/about_player_retention/#fyjq13s

In a nutshell, this is exactly how I feel. I've never been this attached to the process of upgrading my character before and I don't think I will be able to tolerate going back to a game where this level of crafting is basically only attainable by people who manage to find some way of exploiting to get rich and/or people whose schedules allow them to play for 12+ hours a day, and where the main and only reliable form of new item acquisition is trading (which is on record as being intentionally designed to be terrible).

I think you don't know what you're doing if you believe people getting what they want is what's making them stop playing, it actually seems like the opposite. We were conditioned to believe this was going to be some insanely unbalanced OP league and it was actually just functionally broken, like shit didn't work. Maybe if the game or league mechanics were functional then you wouldn't see a massive drop in players in the first 2 weeks, and then the curve smoothing out once you've applied fixes. Maybe the technical shit should be your starting point when hunting the reasons for bad player retention, rather than nearly anything to do with the game balance, such as the unfounded idea that people will leave because they have better access to do the things they want to do in the game.

All Harvest did was expose the shitty casino-tier RNG gating that crafting really was.

But yeah, listen to your internals/the extremely vocal minority here who play the game like it's their job, who have a complete understanding of how to utilize the Harvest crafting system telling you "it's too easy", while conveniently pretending you don't NEED to have a considerable amount of knowledge to pull amazing items out of it.. barring the few examples of forced crafts that could easily be 'fixed' by pulling some levers.

Instead, what you should do is ENTIRELY scrap this system that alleviated problems which caused most of the trade and loot issues to the point of acceptability. Get rid of it because you GENUINELY BELIEVE that the average player does not deserve the ability to meaningfully interact with their items and instead should be solely reliant on what drops on the ground or what items they can manage to piece together enough currency to buy from other players.

Bestiary league started on 2nd of March 2018.

Three years since we have almost 2nd of March 2021.

We currently have the 'Great Grove' known as Sacred Grove...

Are The First Ones coming next? Who are they? Is Oshabi a 'survivor'? Is it the end?

It seems to me that part of paying for MTX should be actually being able to see them. This has been an issue since league launch.

Idea to allow your other characters to be in the hideout when not active

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 11:53 AM PDT

Not sure how much work this would be for GGG but I figured it would be a nice addition if you could put your other inactive characters in your hideout like how you have the masters. Even if you can't interact with those other heroes it would be just cool to have them there so you can enjoy looking at them being part of your league experience.

Bonus would be for them to be interactive and being able to use their inventory to store things but that might create some weird exploits of some kind or become just something people do to have more space to store things.

Another bonus would be to be able to switch out characters immediately in the hideout.

Just figured it would be cool to see all your characters in one place. Perhaps even make ghost versions of dead hardcore characters or gravestones :P

    r/PathofExile Plays: The Lord’s Labyrinth! Part 10

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:23 AM PDT

Rise, ascendant! Part 9 is here. Last time, we fumbled our way through a dart trap and found ourselves face-to-face with one of the greatest assassins in Wareclast: Marconi of the Silent Brotherhood! With no small amount of luck, we killed him handily and earned a small speech from Izaro, as well as some Attribute and Ascendancy Points. After considering our options, a decision was made: Dex-stacking, with the ability to use Dexterity instead of other scores for Skill Tests! With that in order, Weylin elected to traverse the stairs (though the vote was extremely close).

Down into the dark we go!

The stone steps extend downwards, torches spaced evenly along the spiralling descent, moisture dripping from overhead. A cold bead lands on your neck and you shiver, feeling the tons of rock pressing down above you. The hills of Ezomyr were home to an occasional den or grotto, but this has the feel of deep earth, musty stone lain dormant since time itself began. Any manner of thing might rise from these chthonic depths, but with no other options available, you force yourself to continue on.

The rock eventually widens into a large cavern, more torches spaced around its perimeter. A dark, waveless lake covers the entire right side of this vast space. Mottled stepping stones, round and smooth, lead to a small island set in its centerm some sort of object resting atop the irregular mound. To the left, strange carvings cover a stone door. The engravings pain your eyes, spiked runes harsh and angular. In the distance, you can see the torches converge to another exit, a winding path along the lakeshore leading the way.

You walk down to the lake, boots crunching on the dark sand, and the shape on the island becomes clear: a bulky, brass-bound chest. Taking a closer look at the rounded stones, they appear to be river-smoothed boulders, polished to a mottled greenish gray.

To cross the rounded stones to the island, turn to 118. To push open the engraved door, turn to 186. To make your way along the lake to the far exit, turn to 391.

Nice and straightforward. That door has me a bit concerned, and the scenic route along the lake seems to be too easy. Honestly, I'm really looking forward to some kind of weapon upgrade, and risking the boulders to get at that chest might be the ticket. That said, it's your call! Lake walk, Stone door, or Boulder Island? Pick your poison in the poll, and I'll see you all tomorrow!

Bug/Warning: Buy all missing decorations resets favour to 0

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 03:24 AM PDT

I just tried out the buy all missing decorations functionality when importing a new hideout. Instead of costing me about half my favour as the tooltip said, my total favour was set to 0.

Edit: I tried to import this hideout.

Edit: It might be linked to importing unowned MTX, so be careful with that.

What's up with IceShot/Barrage and why does it attract so many new plees and RMTers?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 11:59 PM PDT

Am I the only one noticing this? Every league we have hundreds of post on "help my build sucks" and it's always ice shot, and everytime they got insane gear that does not make sense for them to have, talking about guys with mirror gear having problems with t1 bosses.

Am I crazy? Does anybody else notice this?

Edit: god, why do you see typos after you press enter? It's players, not plees. For some reasons my phone autocorrect ed to it
