Optimized ArcaneSurge Carcass Jack RF/Fire Trap Trickster - Much Content Wow Many Maps 500k DPS

    Posted: 27 May 2019 02:39 PM PDT

As far as I can see, my build has the highest RF DPS and highest AoE of any RF guide I've seen at the cost of the usual tanky stats that you would see on a Juggernaut-style Trickster. In addition, it is not complete ass at bossing. This build tears through normal maps, memories, and Delve at close to Winter Orb speeds. However, it struggles to deathlessly clear high tier maps, maps with a lot of damage mods, and Shaper/Elder, though all of this content is doable if you don't get hit in the face.

    tl;dr

Go fast. Double curse. Use shaped arcane surge on a staff for max DPS. Avoid using conc effect. Fire trap tanky stuff and bosses.

SSF: Possible but tricky. Endgame needs a lot of fossil crafts. Hardcore: Dangerous as hell. I die several times a day. You'll want to stick to Kaom's and socket RF into a helmet with Burning Damage or Increased AoE or both. Switch to RF only after you have the degen issue completely licked. You may want to lose Cinderswallow for another safety life flask. Hardcore SSF: Probably just don't. Shaper/Elder/Guardians: Don't get hit! Leave Cinderswallow home and bring a dousing flask to turn off RF. Taking your time will help.

    Gameplay

Press flasks and zoom around, then watch the monsters die. Fire trap anything with HP. Tricktster is #1 sustain. Dual curse aura (Witchfire Brew + Flammability).

For high level maps, roll the maps easy and play very carefully if your gear isn't ready yet!

    Caveats

This is not a tanky build. Without a recent kill and while standing still, it will actually slowly degen. Things are going to clock you in the face for a lot. You should not be running high tier maps with multiple damage stacks (added elemental damage + crit). Beyond monsters are a bit dangerous. You will have to play carefully on some maps, but on other maps, you can absolutely slam through them.

    Fire Trap to the Rescue

Fire Trap solved every problem I had for this build. What a good skill! It scales with everything that RF scales with: AoE, damage over time, fire damage, burning damage. I wanted to grab plenty of AoE, and that goes great with Fire Trap because its natural radius is small.

    Dual Curse is Mandatory

I tried seven similar PoBs for various classes. The first common thread I noticed was that dual curse was by far the best DPS. I have actually no idea how other builds online haven't noticed this. Most build.

Ele Overload also provides an absurd damage boost for some reason.

    Everything Else Not Really Mandatory

There are many ways to get to a similar result. Most involve the Witch and Assassin area, as that's where dual curse/Ele Overload is located. The only really big thing I would say is that EE can be very strong for bossing. EE doesn't process correctly on Path of Building, but the -resistance it provides can be very good for bosses. I elected not to use it because Fire Trap registers a hit before the DoT. However, you could easily run a 1-link storm brand, or orb of storms, siphoning trap, or CWDT setup to negate it.

You can even avoid trickster entirely.

    Leveling

While leveling, focus on hitting every % regen node and every nearby life node. Ignore all damage -- save that for last. This is very important as this build doesn't aggressively chase max fire res/regen. The tree is very stretched as is. Your damage will be fine.

The best starter weapon in the game for this build is The Searing Touch, Lathi. If you can't get one, double sceptre or sceptre/shield substitute. Level with a skill of your choice as you'll need a level 20 Purity of Fire to switch to RF.

    Leveling Gear

Tabula->Kaom's is the correct choice for breaking into maps. They are both inexpensive and can be farmed quickly in SSF.

If you'd like to switch to RF earlier and don't want to buy a Purity of Fire gem, you can use Tabula+Rise of the Pheonix and a cheap DoT sceptre. Another cool alternative is the Grey Spire staff, which has no sockets, but has ALLLLLL the damage and adds to max res. Loreweave doesn't work. (It cancels out Purity of Fire -- don't play yourself.)

For your second aura, Flammability > Malevolence. You can also run both by self-casting Flammability, but you'll notice the slowdown.

Put Fire Trap in your Lathi for the +2 gem level. I ran with a 4-link Lathi all the way to T15 maps.

You'll need a lot of regen on your gear and a Stone Golem to avoid significantly degenning at random. Prioritize regen heavily over life and damage.

    Endgame Gear

    Look for these desired stats:

Carcass Jack 6-link Don't really need to divine Arcane Surge Staff 6-link / Chance to Block passive Socketed Gems are Supported by Level xx Arcane Surge % Increased Spell Damage % Increased Fire Damage % Increased Burning Damage Helmet/Boots/Gloves +100 life 1% of life regenerated per second OR x% max life Socketed Gems are Supported by Level xx Burning Damage//Movement Speed//AoE//Spell Damage//Fire Damage Imprescence w/ Flammability Rings Life/Life Regen/Res (I use coral rings, but two-stones or even opal rings are fine.) Stygian Vise Life/Life Regen/Res/Flask Stuff Jewels IF Elemental Equilibrium, 1x jewel with cold damage to spells. All other jewels: %Life regen while moving + Max Life + Damage Over Time with 2-Handed Weapons Abyss Jewel OR %Max Life, %Area Damage, %Burning Damage regular jewels
    • Check the PoB for gear examples. Endgame gear ran me about 1-2 exalts each plus 4-5 exalts for each 6-link.
    • All of the other armor items need to be fossil crafted. Percentage life regeneration doesn't roll naturally.
    • Arcane Surge adds a duration tag to RF, allowing the use of Swift Affliction, which allows us to fill 5 support nodes without conc effect. We don't actually trigger Arcane Surge.
    • If you can't get the staff you want, just roll with a Lathi's 5-link (or 6-link conc effect.)
    • Carcass Jack is so much better than Kaom's. The extra 6-link is solid gold. If you don't want the AoE for some reason, then use Belly of the Beast, or, alternatively, swap the stats on the staff to a juicy fossil-crafted shaped chest with arcane surge.
    • Grabbing Impresence grants us some of the things we love, additional damage mitigation, and allows us to add malevolence. This is one of my first buys once the degen/resistance issue is settled.
    • Both jewel types are relatively cheap. The %Life Regen while moving jewels in particular are very good early. Both jewels can fit one more damage mod.

Y u no Marauder/Duelist Tree for da good nodes

It's too damn many points. Try it out and count the useless nodes. I didn't even have the huge Marauder starter life section at first!

You can't have your cake and eat it too. In this case, having your cake is 8-9k HP with Kaom's Heart, and eating it is a large amount of AoE, DPS, and the ability to kill bosses quickly. Many builds that I've seen use Kaom's and a unique shield that increases max fire res, meaning that their RF is 4-linked and they just don't have a 6-link. If your RF is 4-linked, you're going to end up with about 200k DPS in a very optimized tree at best, and you're going to end up with Conc Effect to get there, and your build is going to feel extra slow because you have to circle a bit on every pack to hit all the monsters.

    Final Comments

Righteous Fire has been in a bit of a weird spot for quite some time. It really feels like a class that should belong squarely in the Marauder tree. It's a melee-range Damage over Time build a la Vortex, but unlike Vortex, you have to stay in range to keep the DPS up. It scales off of life, which is cool, but it doesn't scale well off of life. The damage isn't as good as Vortex or Vaal RF. In addition, it requires Purity of Fire and additional max fire res to sustain itself, using a valuable aura slot which might go to something better, and it doesn't even have the courtesy to scale off of spell damage.

This was unacceptable to me. It felt bad to play. It seemed like a lot of my skill tree was wasted. The AoE was too small, but I needed the Conc Effect gem for damage. After trying such an RF build in Betrayal, I started looking for alternatives, and I finally just broke out Path of Building and made this thing. Assassins are very suited to DoT builds, and Trickster has the absolute best sustain passive node in the game. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I have!

Help With 3.7 Ignite Fireball Starter

    Posted: 27 May 2019 06:16 PM PDT

Hi all, after reading in the faq that on death effects and DOT's will work for breaking the legion monsters out, I am fairly certain that I want to try a DOT, most likely Fireball Ignite build this league, since I haven't done one before.

Looking at poe.ninja most people seem to go trickster, but I have also seen that elementalist could be good as well for the free prolif and shock effect.

To those that played ignite fireball this league, how did mapping and bossing feel? I saw an uber elder kill on a five link that got posted so it seems like it should be good, but any feedback on how Fireball felt in maps and leveling would be great. POBs are always helpful as well, as it seems most of the people on poe ninja have insane gear that I don't want to use as a benchmark.

Need help on where to take this build. Lvl 71 Occ. CI, HoAg, RoA

    Posted: 27 May 2019 11:08 PM PDT

Hey, gang. I've started my third character and it's been going pretty well. I'm a lvl 71 Occultist with Chaos Inoculation and Herald of Agony triggered by Rain of Arrows. I read three different guides using CI and HoAg. One of the guides was dependent on Energy from Within jewels and thus took a lot of life nodes that I've left out.

Just wanted some feedback on the rest of the points I'll get. Keep in mind: I'm poor(2 Exalted Orbs and maybe 80ish Chaos). I've already used a good amount of respec points changing two of my ascendancy points so I'd like to be confident spending points from here on.

(PS4)Dying too much with Enki's Lightning Witch

    Posted: 27 May 2019 05:20 PM PDT

I've been running Enki's build for the last few weeks and I've recently started having trouble with random rare mobs as well as some normal ones, like the revenants on Blood Channel being able to three shot me. I know my resistences being relatively low is part of my problem, but even taking that into account, it really feels like I'm dying far too much. I do my best to keep my distance, I've got the Eldritch Battery/MoM setup and have tried to prioritize defensive nodes for progression. Any advice would be appreciated.

Will CoH curse trigger curses in Vixen's Entrapment?

    Posted: 27 May 2019 10:30 PM PDT

I currently have 2 curses triggered by Curse on Hit. I'm wondering if I can get Vixen's Entrapment and have two of the curses on Vixen's. Will they be triggered when the curse of hit triggers the other curse?

    Help with Blade Flurry build

    Posted: 27 May 2019 07:14 PM PDT

I've been pre-building my melee build for 3.7 (using it in synthesis to learn) and could use another set of eyes. I know I'm missing something but can't quite put my finger on it.

How bad will Winter Orb get nerfed?

    Posted: 27 May 2019 02:32 PM PDT

so I decided to do a winter orb build (pure cold with some crit) for the flashback event.Hit 95, and Beat Uber Elder with it, not that much investment either. Wondering how bad it will be gutted. I'd like to do it as a starter for 3.7 and then make a fun melee build. For those wondering: PoB: https://pastebin.com/BjhE684R The tree is probably bad but since it's my first DIY tree i'm probably missing out on a lot efficiency.
