    Summoning+Detonate dead viable?

    Posted: 08 May 2019 04:01 PM PDT

I'm fresh to the game and still learning the systems, but I'm discovering that some of the abilities line up well with my favorite build from diablo 2, the fishymancer. For those who don't know what it is, it's basically like the title says, a pet build that uses the summons for safety and the initial kill you need to start the combo, and corpse explosion (detonate dead) as it's main clear with a few curses for support. I know you can do both in this game, but is it viable? Any items/gems I should be on the look out for? Which passives make the most sense, or is a pet build at odds with corpse explosion as far as efficiency goes?

Thanks for pointing this noob in the right direction!

    Comparing totem spells/attacks

    Posted: 08 May 2019 08:53 PM PDT

I'm going to play a totem build for the flashback and trying to decide between the various attacks/spells. Do you guys agree with these assessments? What do you guys think is the overall best for running Eldered maps?

    Arc - A+ clear, B- Single target

Tornado Shot - A- clear, B Single target (at 7-8 extra arrows, it's not 100% hit and you know it)

Glacial Cascade - B clear, A++ Single target.

Now is the ones I've never used -

Scourge Arrow - A? Clear, but I also see it topping the dps charts giving an A+ in single target.

Divine Ire - B clear? Also good single target. A?

Ancestral totem - C clear? - possible the highest Single target A+++. But Vaal Ancestral might help solve the clearspeed issue.

I know the map layout might have an effect, but imagine choosing a map to elder which fits the skill. By these numbers, I'm trending towards scourge Arrow. I could also cheat and use a clearspeed skill on a 4L and have the 6l be a single target one. Think barrage + tornado Shot as they both go off similar base setups. Or Arc + ? (Storm call?)

    Mechanics for Fighter/Mage (Gish) Builds

    Posted: 08 May 2019 04:59 PM PDT

So I think like many old school gamers I grew up with an obsession for often needlessly complicated Fighter/Mage or Gish builds. Part of that stems from the fact that I started RPGs with Dragon Quest , where the hero is a Gish, and AD&D 2nd, where Fighter/Mages were very strong (though not as strong as pure Mages).

But with a handful of exceptions, Gishes aren't particularly good for ARPGs. And PoE is no exception. Even if you work around very obvious difficulties with building power in both melee and spell casting at the same time, you've always got a lingering question:

Why not just go pure melee or magic?

In order for this to be anything more than a challenge build (not that those can't be fun) this question has to be answered. And I've never had a particularly good answer for it.

But with Synthesis we got a new Support that potential makes a spell more potent when you don't cast it: Unleash. So the idea of making a Gish popped into my head again.

But while Unleash does give spells a benefit while you're attacking, it still doesn't solve the original question. Why use Unleash when you can spam spells? Why pause to cast a spell when you could just keep attacking and usually leeching?

So I've been mining for mechanics where spells provide a direct benefit to attacks and attacks provide a direct benefit to spells. So far, I've found the following.

    Guardian Passive: Bastion of Hope
    Inquisitor Passive: Instruments of Virtue
    Unique Void Scepter: Augyre

Has anyone else played with this? Do you know of other mechanics? I'll add them in as we find them.

    Templar Soulrend Build?

    Posted: 08 May 2019 04:58 PM PDT

Hey everyone. Trying to make a Templar soulrend build. I love the skill and have found someone playing soulrend as a guardian, but unfortunately their path of building tree is incomplete. Anyone have some ideas on how to build this character? Mandatory items? Other skills to go with it? Passive tree build? Thanks for any help. Still learning this game.

    Cold brand build idea

    Posted: 08 May 2019 06:16 AM PDT

    Hey!
I was thinking about what to start in the upcoming race league. I'm currently running a storm brand elementalist in synth and I really love this skill. However I've never done an ES/CI character and I'm afraid I'll lose interest in storm brand if I started the same build in the race league.
I came up with an idea of an occultist which uses storm brand, but instead of the regular stuff, it'd have:
-herald of ice linked with curse on hit and 2 curses
-storm brand linked with hypothermia, cold snap, added cold damage, controlled destruction and concentrated effect
With profane bloom I imagine I won't have to run an inpulsa, so can go with either a rare ES body or a shroud.
Multicrafted wand with non-chaos as chaos and added cold damage
    Added cold in abyss jewels
ES helm with storm brand %increased damage
So the plan is to chill, freeze and shatter myself through maps while leeching ES from spell damage. What do you think? Would this work? What would you add to it, remove from it and so on?
Here's the PoB for the skill tree I've made(keep in mind, I've never done an occultist or an ES char so any help is appreciated, pls don't bash on me):

    Questions for upcoming Event

    Posted: 08 May 2019 04:36 AM PDT

After not trying the meta builds myself in Synthesis i wanna give them a shot in the upcoming event.

    1) Everywhere i look i see Winter Orb and Chaos builds (Soulrend/Bane), i'm wondering in which category one tops the other:

Starting (WO might be clunky without early cast speed?): WO or Chaos (reasoning)

Scaling (WO outscales cuz of Eternity Shroud+Trickster?): WO or Chaos (reasoning)

Budget (Which tops the other on 10c, 3EX, 10EX?): WO or Chaos (reasoning)

Bossing (WO can run around but Chaos has Wither totem?): WO or Chaos (reasoning)

Survivability (Let's say WO Trickster and Chaos Occultist?): WO or Chaos (reasoning)

Reaching the Event rewards: WO or Chaos (reasoning)

    2) To me it seems that Soulrend has higher numbers on the skill gem compared to Bane, pure dps is Soulrend better than Bane?(POE ninja builds shows higher dot numbers too) And just round the build off with picking Wither Totems for bossing with one the skills mentioned above?

    3) WO would deffinetly be a Trickster but the Chaos builds would have be a toss up between Occultist and Trickster for me. Atm Occultist seems better cuz of the better scaling and tankiness but i have not tried the reworked Trickster yet. So i'm wondering if the Ghost Shrouds of Trickster can compensate the defensive scaling of Occultist?

    Thank you for your time!
