    Posted: 26 May 2019 05:54 AM PDT

This game gets more and more complex every few months. As someone who sucks at PoE and takes breaks for several months at a time before returning, I am often confronted with new items, skills and passive tree nodes. Unique items often say something like "gets level 30 Fortify" or "Critical Strike Chance is Lucky". I have no idea what Fortify is or what Lucky means. I wish I could somehow hover over these words and get an explanation instead of leaving the game and using Google. Or clicking on certain words could open a new (ingame) window which shows the Wiki page for that word.

The unplayable state of PoE PS4

    Posted: 26 May 2019 08:02 AM PDT

    Hi !

I installed the game about 3 weeks ago on my PS4 , at first i thought it's a good console port , i'm level 65~ ish and rolling a shadow soulrend build , the game has gotten unplayable , the large amount of lag and stutter that the game faces is unbelievable . Every time i move the lag starts and it gets even worse in combat , fps drops to 5 most of the time and then comes back 10 seconds while the screen is frozen , i didn't have these issues when i started playing , i created a witch and i found out it's not only my soulrend build that might be causing fps issues because of the effects . I played red dead 2 and Spiderman again and they work just fine on my console ! What is worse is that there are so many others like me facing these issues and GGG still hasn't responded yet . Please let's discuss these issues so that the game gets out of this unplayable state on PS4 . I love the game and it's such a waste to see it like this

In response to the front page post complaining about unveiling to unlock Betrayal crafts

    Posted: 26 May 2019 01:20 PM PDT

If you are unaware - the top post on this subreddit right now is about people unhappy with unveiling items to get crafts. I was really unhappy with it too, until I actually did some research and found Chris Wilson being interviewed:

"Regarding Betrayal, will the Immortal Syndicate progress be account-bound?

Yes, we are changing progress to be account-bound. The bad news is that it won't be possible in time for Legion's launch. Right now, [our teams are focused] on Legion, and we want to make sure it's as good as it can be. We don't really want to give people additional workloads or overtime to make this addition [which might include stability issues or bugs if rushed.

We're committed to making the change, but we want to be able to do it properly. It's likely to be a 3.8 feature."

I think we all know that there's a lot of complaining on Reddit. That's fine, it is what it is.

However, when I posted the answer to the information - it gets downvoted into oblivion - and what do I see? More complaining in the post.

Like... what does this subreddit want?

    Zombie Corpses pre-analysis

    Posted: 26 May 2019 05:44 AM PDT

I don't show up on reddit much, mostly around a new league to ask questions of devs while I try to make something dumb happen. Aukana's Will has been an interesting item to me, so I've been busy puzzling out how good it might be at its different uses. Rather than keep all this to myself, I thought I'd give a go at sharing with the community I leech from.

    Spectre Zombies

This is most recently in my head so it goes first. Spectre zombies are a cool idea, but the math on them gets a bit weird, because Zombies don't appear to follow the rules. Specifically, a level 30 Raise Zombie should raise a level 90 Zombie with particular stats, but what both poedb and Path of Building tells me is that everything is wrong, so as a result, there are two possible spectre zombies. Spectres from Raise Zombie, and Spectres from a Raised Zombie. So one is from the gem, the other is from the stats of the monster itself.

First things first, raising the best zombie. The only thing that matters is the level of the gem, and the absolute best level of a raise zombie gem (to my knowledge) is 30. This can be achieved with a level 4 empower and a level 21 raise zombie in a Magna Eclipsis (or its babies) corrupted with +1 gems. There's no second corruption that can push it to level 32, but I may be wrong about this being the best you can get. This may sound expensive and it is, it's also dumb, but if you're not using soul's wick it's fine, you don't need to own it, just borrow.

Spectre stuff The build for this has ONLY the node, Soul Weaver, awarded via an item. There is nothing else affecting the base stats of these minions.

    Raised Zombie Level 30

    Damage: 1685-3932

    Slam: 2443-5701

    Life: 11809

    Spectre

    Damage: 3707-8650

    Slam: 5392-12582

    Life: 23618

Spectre based on Raised Zombie as a monster (Quick note, this is calculated out by hand. The maths MAY be wrong, mainly with when modifiers are added. My method was to take the life of a 100% creature, bump it up to a 255% creature and then double it from Soul Weaver. The damage is either the same as above (meaning zombies have a bad 'weapon') or very different. The damage listed below is based on an Undying Grappler scaled up)

    Damage: 5259 - 17346

    Slam: 7412 - 24446

    Life: 121227

Baron Monte Zombie shamelessly stolen from someone via poeninja

    DPS: 55033.9

    Slam: 95018.5

    Life: 29436

Level 90 Spectre Zombie jammed haphazardly in to the same build with 21/20 Raise Spectre

    DPS: 84901.3

    Slam: 106722

    Life: 42386

The same but with the Monster Spectres. (I didn't calculate the damage out because this is getting late)

    DPS: I dunno, more

    Slam: Also more

    Life: 204843

Before you ask, yes the spectre zombies have had all zombie specific buffs removed from them. This means that while Slam has 107k dps, it also has a 5 second cooldown and an aoe of 18 instead of 25.

You wouldn't be using spectre zombies in a baron build, probably. You'd use them in a build that's designed for them, but that wasn't really the point. Baron Monte is the best a zombie can get, so the spectre variety is (I think) performing admirably vs. its brother in arms.

    Exploding Zombies

I did this maths a while ago. This one is a million times easier, and it's comparing to Unearth, the best option for Detonate Dead currently (I assume). Unearth builds will use the same shield as listed above. The most affordable version is just the standard gems in the shield, this gives you a corpse of 18388 life. With the enchant, you push up to 25338, and with maximum feasible corruptions, you get to 32684. This costs you a single item (your shield) to do, but if you want the big boy explosions it can be costly.

Zombies gets complicated, I haven't built the build for detonate dead yet, but here's the base numbers.

Zombies with JUST the gloves, 20/20 Raise Zombie, 20/20 Minion Life and 3 Empower 19570 life

Zombies with corrupted gems 23829 life

Corrupted Zombies in a +2 helm 29137 life

Same zombies, now with Monte himself (Note without nodes, this gives you 1 max zombie) 46997 life

Same zombies, now with a simple necro tree (Taking most of the minion nodes except the grave pact wheel, whilst also taking Flesh Binder) 79995 life

Necromantic Aegis with a Maligaro's Lens 83994 (You also recover 1679 life per detonate dead)

    +3 Helm (instead of +2) 89662

After that it's just a matter of balancing the important and unimportant improvements. 100k is plausible, but you have to make sacrifices I assume. With all of the above, my zombies release a 123k caustic cloud on death, heal me for 1793 life and detonate for some 180k damage, so about 300k damage per zombie. It's okay, and could easily be improved.

That's a lot of numbers, hope it helps someone.

EDIT 1: Edit 2 will come later with some build example for the Detonate Dead, BUT... the thing I was missing with raise zombie spectres is their absurd life pool. If it works properly, then it SHOULD surpass unearth spectres for life. This will make using zombie spectres possible in a build like this: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2094074 .

[Serious] How did you get good at this game?

    Posted: 26 May 2019 07:09 AM PDT

So the question might seem a bit of an obvious one ("just play, duh"), but bare with me.

First of all, let me say I absolutely love the complexity in PoE, and of all the ARPG I played is definitely the one I liked the most.

One of the main reasons why I gave up with Diablo 3 is because of how simple all builds are and the lack of a real end game (things might have changed lately but that's not the point); PoE is quite the opposite, as you all know.

The problem I have is that it is maybe a little bit too complex.

I have almost 370 hours in this game, all played during Synthesis, yet I still feel like a noob and it's starting to burn me out.

I have levelled 4 characters to the end game before setting on a Freezing Pulse Assassin, I always follow my guides religiously, yet I never reach the level of sheer power the guide-makers reach and I have no idea how to improve my character.

For instance, my Assassin reaches 3M Elder DPS on Path of Building; the author of the build has almost twice as much and did Uber Elder, whereas I couldn't even kill the Minotaur guardian in two maps (did Phoenix in 5 attempts though).

I have no problem in clearing corrupted red maps up until T15, but now I'm stuck at level 92; I still get one shotted every now and then and I have no idea why.

I literally don't know how to improve my character. (For those interested, here is the PoB). Another thing I don't know is what mods I should be looking for in maps and why.

I read the reason why GGG won't implement an auction house is because they want to keep the items you loot relevant for improvement; well I pretty much stopped identifying most items because all I get is crap.

"Crafting is your friend" I hear you saying. Indeed it is. But crafting requires currency, and I never felt I had the luxury of spending mine freely. In over 350 hours I looted a whole 4 exalted orbs and acquired maybe 7-8 more via trading. I see items on sale for 50 exalts out there. 6-links? I had 1 (one!) drop so far, and it was a white shit worth just a few dozen chaos.

On top of that, most of the best recipes are gated behind RNG (Delve, Betrayal) or in those maps I can't beat.

And don't even get me started on Betrayal, I found a guide that told me which members are good and where, but I still have no idea how to actually get them there. I tried the mastermind today and it kicked my butt so badly I stopped playing for the rest of the day. Incursion is simpler, and so is the Nexus - if you ignore the synthesiser, that is.

On top of all this, the season if almost over and if I understand it correctly, you're supposed to start all over again (or move to standard of course but I don't see why I'd want to skip content), which means my motivation is even lower.

Ok this turned out to be a rant, but I really want to understand this game, so I guess the questions are:

    1. When/how did you learn what was going on on the screen? I.e. what attacks were most dangerous to the point you'd pop a defensive flask (and which)?
    2. How do you know what stats are actually good for your build outside for life/resistances? For my assassin I understand Crit Multiplier is great, but then? Is it even the best? And what about other builds?
    3. Is there really no alternative to watching hours upon hours of other people talking about this game to understand its mechanics? I watched a few videos by Engineering Eternity on Youtube, and while the guy is really good, it's just so much stuff I don't think I have the time for it (I'd rather read honestly).

Come on pro players, help me be you!

PSA: Your game performance matters, tips inside.

    Posted: 25 May 2019 07:54 PM PDT

We've had tons of new players join us the last few leagues, loads of content has been added to the game, and betrayal encounters still suck for non SSD users. Maybe you aren't aware, maybe you forgot, maybe you knew about it, but the GGPK Defrager tool defrags your content.ggpk file. This can reduce the size of the file (sometimes gigabytes worth) and improve performance, and has been reported to fix syndicate encounters.

If you haven't kept up with your install for a few leagues and are suffering poor load times/stutters/freezes, then this may help you, DO NOT use this tool if you use the steam client, as it downloads a fresh GGPK every patch.

To use the tool, just drag and drop your content.ggpk onto the defrag executable, then sit around and wait as there is no progress bar.

Also keep in mind that deleting your cache folders can help your load times, as these can get huge as well over patches. These are located in the following locations:

    Standalone Client

    ...\game install folder\Path of Exile\ShaderCacheD3D11

    ...\game install folder\Path of Exile\CachedHLSLShaders

    Steam Client

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\ShaderCacheD3D11

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile\CachedHLSLShaders

Edit: u/Moondwo has pointed out that disabling windows Xbox DVR/Gamebar fixes a lot of performance issues for some people, so you could possibly look into that as well.

In addition, some people benefit greatly from turning off asynchronous loading. You can go to this post to learn how to do this.

Hopefully this information will be of help to some people, or just newer players in general.
