GGG pls, uber lab and helm enchants rework in 3.10.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 12:43 AM PST

Uber lab is really quite terrible now, especially the decision to nerf the gem drops from the chests. And the helm enchants, well that one needs no further discussion, it sucks and extremely bloated, even GGG knows this. Also reward for fastest needs to be changed to prevent one guy monopolising the whole market for the items. And another issue, as league mechanics get more and more rewarding, uber lab that gets no interaction with league mechanics become less rewarding in comparison. Delve also introduced enchanted fossil, which can also be dropped from other league mechanics.

I'm sure GGG knows uber lab need some rework, but I'm just hoping it's sooner than later. I like the concept of a puzzle labyrinth with secrets and traps like a DnD dungeon, but it needs some streamlining and better reward to compensate not having league mechanics in it, and do something about the enchants.

[Serious] Videos of loot from Baited Expectations divination cards (unique fishing items)

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 10:51 AM PST

This is a real discussion. The [redacted]/Muted/Banned memes can be fun, but we're here to solve a puzzle. Let's please skip those for this post.

In our previous post on fishing we promised some videos on areas of our research. A few streamers have graciously volunteered their time for us.

Today we're talking about Baited Expectations. A set of 8 cards returns a unique fishing item. Baited Expectations is naturally found in Desert Spring, though it's uncommon.

We gave a few hundred cards to each of mbXtreme and Slipperyjim8. Check out their videos to see what they received and hear some fun commentary on fishing.

Additional info on our work with Baited Expectations:

    • All total, we've documented ~400 set turn-ins (~3200 cards) of Baited Expectations.

    • Here is the distribution of loot so far, including the sets opened in the videos above: spoiler.

    • There is no profit here; this is for science! We end up buying at an average of around 7c/card since the market is so thin. We've burned approximately ~22,000 chaos on this task so far.

    • Based on the prior probabilities of other card sets' rare outcomes, we expect we must turn in thousands of sets of Baited Expectations to be confident we have a comprehensive list of all possible outcomes.

    • We do not think Baited Expectations can give Angler's Plait. Baited Expectation specifies it returns a unique fishing item, not a corrupted unique fishing item. Angler's Plait is always corrupted.

    • Despite hundreds of turn-ins, we've never seen Reefbane. We've heard rumors that Reefbane can result, but we've seen no hard evidence. Either Reefbane is very rare, or we're very unlucky, or it's not actually a possibility. If in fact Reefbane does not qualify for Baited Expectations's "Unique Fishing Item" class, that's very important information.

Huge thanks again to mbXtreme and Slipperyjim8 for helping document our efforts. Special thanks to SlothNumber1 who did a huge amount of the card purchasing, and thanks to all our other wonderful experimenters in the Discord group as well.

As always, I'll do my best to answer your serious questions about fishing in the comments. Tight lines, exile!

No upvotes please! Need help with how to bind my mine detonation

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 07:48 AM PST

Could someone who has experience playing a mine build please give me some advice on how to not destroy my fingers. I am playing a pyroclast mine build with astral projecter and my ring finger is about dead. Is there a gem, or key bind of some kind i can use to smooth this out. Should i be pressing detonation over and over or holding down? I've tried both and it seems like holding it down doesnt always work.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Here's a leaked concept for the new league

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 01:06 PM PST

Unveiling for the crafting bench has been too time consuming this league.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 03:01 AM PST

Some of the unveils have been taking way too long this league, would like to see them a bit more available next league.

Just sayin'. I guess we ain't supposed to complete full awakening bonus this league? It's a shame.

Had a really interesting trade interaction the other day.

This sounds even better when you 1 day before announcement of 3.10 then it was on ExileCon Live Stream Day 2 4:58:01: "POE's best expansions will occur between now and release of POE 2. Conquerors being the first of them"

Does anyone actually care about stun and block recovery?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 08:47 AM PST

So, stun and block recovery increases the animation speed of getting stunned or blocking a stun. It was a stat in Diablo 2, where it does seem to have some worth. However, in Path of Exile the general consensus is that the stat is just about as close to useless as you can get. Nowadays players would just avoid getting stunned all together, instead of trying to reduce the time of something that should rarely happen anyway. I never see anyone talk about this stat and at the end of the day it just feels like a leftover from Diablo 2. Not to mention that the stat is one of the least intuitive stats in the game.

This begs the question, why is this stat still in the game? It's unintuitively specific to the point of uselessness and is just a derivative leftover at this state. In my honest opinion this stat should have stayed in the early 2000s where it belongs.

PoE: Oblivion. Reasons and wild speculation inside.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 02:11 PM PST

    • GGG's Press Tour announcement that the new league is "shrouded in mystery" and Bex's decision to post "nothing" as today's spoiler hint toward a league name based on some kind of obscurity or unknown.

    • GGG has almost explicitly stated that they want to bring back Synthesis-type crafting on some level. In addition to this, now that we can put special crafts on rings and necks, enchantments on helmets, gloves, and boots, and can double corrupt our uniques, accessible-to-the-public rare crafting is one of the final frontiers of PoE.

    • Add to this the fact that picking up rares is almost obsolete in PoE, and if I'm remembering correctly, this is something that Chris Wilson has said they'd like to address.

    • Finally, we're running out of space for new NPCs and people to learn and care about, especially since a new slew of them will be arriving in PoE2. We need a league mechanic that doesn't require another person yellign at us from just off-screen in every zone.

And here we are: Path of Exile: Oblivion. Here's how it COULD work:

Step 1. An NPC tells you about a machine that's just been found. You go on a quest to capture it, and place it in your hideout. No new NPC needed. This is the Oblivion Machine, and it eats rares.

Step 2. You start picking up rares for the first time in over a year. You ID and sell them until you find a rare with a nice mod: T1 life/resists, 25+ Move speed, etc. But the rest of the item stinks; whatever will you do? Toss it in the Oblivion machine! It will eat the item and spit out an orb/scroll. This item has been imprinted with an EXACT copy of 1 of the mods from that item AT RANDOM. You might get that T5 Stun and Block recovery, or you might get that sweet sweet T1 life.

Step 3 (I think you know where this is going). Do you happen to have a rare item that's nice in every way, except it's missing a life roll? Dig out those life-rolled "Oblivion orbs" baby! Rare items can have 1 mod that's applied via an Oblivion orb. If GGG thinks that crafting gg items will be too easy with this method, maybe restrict it to items of that same base type, similar to assembling enough items for combining in Synthesis.

With this league mechanic, GGG would have us crafting our own gear significantly more often, as well as picking up rare items again. This will incentivize less zoom zoom, doesn't require a new NPC, and is approachable by everyone!

    Bex don't hurt me.

I just started playing ARPG games and as funny as it sounds Wolcen is the reason I started playing PoE

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 03:37 PM PST

Long story short, I tried PoE in 2016 (I think) and it was so hard for me to get into. It was just too confusing for someone who never played these kind of games. The other day I saw that Wolcen released and I thought I should give it a try... Ignoring the server issues I had fun playing the game. It was easy to get into and I never felt overwhelmed by it. Wolcen served as a good base for me to start playing ARPG games and I gave PoE a shot again and holy sh*t the game feels so good and fun to play. I haven't even scratched the surface and I just can't stop thinking about playing this game. So here I am, just wanted to share it with you guys. Thank you for the read. :)

    Enhance Support

What are some clever ways you use enhance support? I popped a level 4 one in my 4 curse Bane setup and I immediately hate myself for using swift affliction instead for soo long. No joke thought it was a useless gem till a few days ago.

The reasons I liked Metamorph have little to do with the league’s primary mechanics

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:03 PM PST

So I really enjoyed the metamorph league, but the reasons have nothing to do with the core point of it.

Metamorph was supposed to be about building a monster of a boss with constantly shifting abilities that you'd have to react carefully to, but these fights are so visually muddled that you can rarely react at all and your two options are either tank it or kill it before it does anything dangerous. They aren't actually a good addition to the gameplay from the perspective of boss fight design.

Where metamorph league shines instead is in the side effects of this design. Organ markers on the minimap that are supposed to help you complete your monster are more important for their benefits to general clearing. Bosses are finally worth killing(!!!) now because they provide so much more loot through metamorph. I really don't want boss killing to be bad again in 3.10...

I think the best way this could go core is for bosses to just always drop a random organ without having regular metamorph fights in maps. The drops you get from fights in Tane's lab will then make bosses worth killing but this mechanic won't be in your face every single map. This loses the minimap markers but GGG could easily add those without organs if they really want to put in that clear speed aid(I doubt they will).
