Path of Exile Builds Advice for new "league start" build.

Advice for new "league start" build.

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 06:00 PM PDT

Hello, I've started as TR Trickster (self-cast, not mines) but to be honest I'm not enjoying it that much. Maybe because I've played a bow skill last league or because I just not feeling like playing it for while.

I haven't played much so I don't have much currency, around 2ex if I sell some stuff, so I'm thinking of this new character as a legue starter.

What I'm aiming for this new build is:

    • good single target (doesn't need to be one-shot bosses or anything like that, at least at low-medium budget)
    • fast clear and gameplay
    • good for Legion, Delve and Blight encounters.
    • relatively tank (like, do not get one-shotted every time)

I know it may seems like what everyone whats in a build, but what I mean is, it doesn't need to be the "clear red maps in 2min" or "inta phase Shaper in 1sec". Just a nice new start to start progress better this league.

Some of the builds people on Global suggested me:

    • Bane Occultist + ED for single target
    • Storm Brand Hierophant using the new Archmage support

They also suggested some other but I really don't wanna play one of them because I've played in the last couple weeks of Metamorph, they were:

    • HOWA MS Jugg
    • Cyclone
    • Minions
    • Traps/Mine
    • Bow skills

Sorry for asking so much, but I'm quite bored due to being locked at home :(

Hollow Palm Technique Consecrated Path Berserker [3.10 Delirium]

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:06 PM PDT

First things first, the PoB: https://pastebin.com/HpTqsgm5. I'd recommend using the PathOfBuildingCommunity/LocalIdentity1 PoB fork for this.

Normally with Hollow Palm builds, you go Cyclone. I wanted to see if Consecrated Path would work and, hey, turns out a Berserker can do it pretty well. Be that as it may, a lot of people are still going to wonder why you'd pick this over Cyclone, which is already a very well-established Hollow Path skill, so I'll frame the pros/cons as advantages/disadvantages over just going Cyclone.

    Advantages:

    • Zoom zoom clear speed without a movement penalty.

    • Permanent Life Regen on consecrated ground to offset the degen of Rite of Ruin / Blood Rage.

    • Doesn't rely on Dash nearly as much, since Consecrated Path can also teleport to packs.

    Disadvantages:

    • With similar investment, you'll get roughly 30%+ more DPS on a Cyclone build. Flat damage stacking + Cyclone + Pride is just a killer combination.

    • Bossing can be annoying with the way Conc Path hops around like an impatient seven-year-old at a family reunion.

    • Needs a gem swap from Elemental Focus to Increased Area of Effect for optimal clearing, with the obvious DPS loss that entails. Conc Path may be my baby, but I'm not blind to the fact that it needs AoE investment to clear at peak form.

    • Necessitates a -15 mana cost chestplate at minimum. Two -9 mana cost rings help further, though you could make do with just one. This puts a lot of strain on our ring slots, so getting a curse-on-hit ring (Flammability or Ele Weakness) is pretty hard. I don't use one in PoB for that reason.

This build, ultimately, isn't meant to be some secret hidden-OP gamebreaker. Hollow Cyclone is still mega good. I just really like Consecrated Path and got motivated enough to make a build.

This section is to explain certain gear / skill / tree choices I feel require some clarification.

Why Astramentis over a beefy dex% Jade Amulet?: One, I'm not going to add something that expensive unless it's clearly notated as a luxury pick and isn't at all necessary for the build to work. Two, even if I did, it isn't enough of a DPS boost to justify the cost.

Why Iron Reflexes?: Because VMS is a wonderful cover-your-ass skill and I'd rather beef that up. Also, the extra physical damage reduction is nice from that same defensive standpoint.

Why is the tree level 89?: It should be level 90, but One With Nothing isn't supported in PoB yet so I have to make do. Also, I left it at level 90 so as to help people not feel pressured if they want to add points into life/defenses.

Speaking of which, what if I want even more defenses?: There are a couple places I'd shift points away from DPS and into life, if that's your preference. I've made a separate tree with more life investment labelled "More Life" if that's what you prefer.

Awakened Gems?: Luxury. Awakened Fire Pen is dirt-cheap, and if you're looking to invest more, I'd say go for Awakened Melee Phys as your first big purchase.

Flex Slot?: There are actually two flex slots in this build, depending on your use case. For clearing, replace Elemental Focus with Increased Area of Effect on the main skill, or their awakened gem variants if you have them, and replace Combustion on the Ancestral Protector with a golem of your choice. I personally like Stone or Lightning. For bossing, go back to Elemental Focus on your 6L and either Combustion or Culling Strike/Blind for Ancestral Protector. Combustion is higher damage, but you may personally like the cull or defensive utility better. Other utility options are Second Wind for Dash, and Increased Duration for VMS/Ancestral Protector/Bloid Rage.

Rusted Swords?: Can't properly simulate One With Nothing's dual wielding bonus in PoB, so I have to use swords that emulate unarmed hits.

Hatred? The funny thing about stacking all that flat physical damage is that Anger and Herald of Purity become pretty fucking terrible. Sources of "gain x% of phys as extra fire/cold/lightning damage" become really good, though. The only way to make Anger worth it is by getting a Watcher's Eye with double Anger mods, specifically Phys as Extra and Penetration. The last one I saw was like 30ex though, so you'd probably get more value out of buying an explode chest for a standard Cyclone build instead.

Cluster Jewels?: Outside of the obvious Hollow Palm Technique one, I use one with Enduring Composure. This is because most of the damage investment on the tree is just way too efficient to let go of in favour of DPS notables unless I want to drop 10-20ex on a spicy Megalomaniac jewel. This gives pretty consistent endurance charge uptime, whereas I'd have to run Inexorable on the tree for them otherwise. You don't need the dex on the small passive, but it's nice. I got mine for 20c.

Luxury options?: An Astral Plate with both % increased dex and -15 to mana cost. You can get this with an Elder item or an Elder/Redeemer mix if you want to fish for a phys taken as cold defensive roll. If you get this + a good life roll, you're in the money. Next one would be a -9% to Fire Resistance roll on your helm. You could get a %dex corrupted Cyclopean Coil too.

If there's anything I missed, or any criticisms, I'm all ears.

    Thanks for reading.

Wash your hands, and stay safe out there.

What the fuck do I do with a headhunter

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 02:40 AM PDT

So I dropped a headhunter, it's the first time I've had anything close to this. What, in your opinion, is the most fun I can have with this thing? I probably have about 10ex other than the hh.

ED / Contagion Stuck in Yellow Maps

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 05:13 AM PDT

    Path of Building Link: https://pastebin.com/ff06QnEV

Hi, after recently switching to CI with better gear for T10+ Maps, my survivabillity hasn't really improved but my damage seems to be lackluster as well. Last time i played a Chaos DoT build was before Metamorph monsterbuffs so i dont know how much my current drop-off is because of my gear or the build.

Up until recently I have only been following guides for my leaguestarter, but I havent found any reccources on how to scale from early mapping gear to endgame

My first ideas for improving the build were:

    - Swapping "Swift Killer" for Escape Artist

    - Getting other Shoes and/or a other Shield

    - Maybe switching back out of CI

While i know the current weaknesses of my current build i have no clue how to improve on them. If possible i wanted to use this character to complete the atlas and get a Sirus kill. Is that still possible with Essence Drain or should I just farm currency for my second character?

    Zombiemancer for blighted maps

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 04:57 AM PDT

I'm currently struggling with my zombiemancer at normal maps, not to mention blighted maps.

Though surviving isn't an issue, the clearing speed is just too bad in comparison with skeletons i played last league.

I wonder if there's any major improvements, and need some advice on cluster jewels.

Hope i could do T16 blighted maps with this build one day...

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 04:54 AM PDT

Currently playing a BL miner on SC trade league. Definitely very fun and extremely powerful and I've farmed up a decent amount of currency to spend. Atm, I'm considering converting to a PF miner to try some more off meta shenanigans. In terms of damage, will I see a significant drop in comparison to BL?

Lacerate Bleed Glad vs. Cyclone Impale FB Champ

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 05:58 PM PDT

Like the title says. I have a Duelist sitting at ~40 just about to ascend. I have two paths I can diverge on and have been levelling the gems for each.

Lacerate Bleed Glad (a la Steelmage) or Cyclone Impale Facebreaker Champion (a la Alkaizer)?

    Budget say 2ex

Edit: I'm in softcore, usually build to about 90 and stop. This one I'd like to see if I can push to 93-95 given that I'm stuck at home. So clearspeed, dying as little as possible, and lets say moderate bossing.

How much will my Dps improve from here on out? (TR Trickster)

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:59 AM PDT

This is a bit of a different post from the usual threads asking for help on how to improve their builds, I have started the league with a Toxic Rain Trickster and so far it has felt decent. The build is fairly tanky with layered defenses and the map clear feels all right as well. One thing which really has been bothering me though is shitty single target, honestly I am not sure if I am just building/playing the character wrong or always playing builds with millions upon millions shaper Dps just spoiled me to a point where anything below 5 mil just feels like shit. Anyway, I did some PoB calculations and would say the next couple of upgrades will just about double my damage output but tbh this wouldn't help to a degree where I would say "this feels like 30ex of investment". Maybe someone experienced with the build can tell me if there is light at the end of the tunnel or if I am better of rerolling into something which hits a bit harder.

Btw incase you read through my post and think to yourself: "I looked at that build and it doesn't look like 30 ex investment." I currently have about 10 sitting in my stash which I was thinking about spending on an empower (if I stick with the build) and spent the 20 I already sunk into the build on my Bow (which is still missing its last craft as well as a possible influence slam), my quiver and the helmet base (which obviously I haven't started crafting yet) all of my other gear is just stuff I identified in yellow maps.

Anyway thanks in advance for any input I might get on this topic and sorry for going on a bit of a rant!

    Dragon Breath Elementalist vs. Chieftain

Hello all and first of all, sorry for my bad english. Anyway, I started this league with Holy Flame Totem Hierophant and now I wanna make second char, and I think Dragon Breath Incinerate would be good (if there better budget options builds like this, u can tell) and my problem is; which one is cheaper to do or which one doing better/bigger damage?

    Frostblades Raider / Shadow

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 09:52 PM PDT

    Hey guys!

Im looking for some advice regarding my char. I REALLY REALLY love frostblades and i would like to make it work for endgame. As it typically is, i struggle a little with single target damage. My clusters are temporary so far but im looking at snowblanket, corrosive elements, sadist, brutal infamy, chilling presence, smite the weak and wind up - you know the drill !

Would anyone with the neccesary experience be so nice to look over my PoB to give me some much needed input?

Also i really like the shadow and would gladly switch from raider but i dont know if it is at all viable.

    Here is my PoB: https://pastebin.com/LmfQk7Z8

also i got this chest and was wondering what i should craft, if i should slam or wait for hunter etc exalt: https://i.imgur.com/1ysvadW.png

my budget is about thirty EX!

Best type of summoner for bossing?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 09:23 PM PDT

Hello! I've been looking to get into some endgame bossing and I hear summoner is likely the easiest. However, I can't figure out if zombies or spectres are better. The build I was considering trying is this one: https://www.poe-vault.com/guides/ultimate-raise-spectre-necromancer-build-guide I have a 5 ex budget to work with and it seemed solid. But I haven't seen much talk from my brief google search and I was curious what this sub thought.

    Frostblink Assassin?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2020 06:31 PM PDT

I know there was a bit of pre-launch hype for Frostblink as a potential primary skill after its buffs:

    • Now deals damage and leaves chilled ground at both its start and end locations.
    • Now receives a reduced cooldown based on the number of nearby enemies at both its start and end locations.
    • Now has a base maximum travel distance of 42 at gem level 1 (from 32).
    • Now gains 2% increased travel distance per gem level.
    • Now gains additional radius as it levels, up to +3 at gem level 20.

but looking at poe.ninja, there isn't a single character on the leaderboards with it as their main skill.

has anyone tried to make it work or theorycraft it? I'm interested in trying it out as an assassin, or even an occultist combined with vortex (but then you've gotta decide whether to scale hit damage or dot multi).

interested in any input while i work this out in PoB :)

Question about how storm brand interacts with increased aoe and pledge of hands.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:13 AM PDT

    • How does storm brand interact with increased area of effect? Does it increase the brand attachment range, the range of the chain or just the small damaging aoe?

    • Patch 3.10 applied a bugfix for "skills with damaging effects that were disconnected from the initial skill use" that allowed them apply the more multiplier from greater spell echo. Can anyone confirm if storm brand was one of the skills affected by this change?

Not to complain, this may be the best game ever created.

It's just so confusing, and I really only enjoy HArdcore. I want to try out SSFHC but after taking a break from the last 2 leagues, I can't find any builds that don't confuse the shit out of me.

    Cluster jewel for sb elementalist

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 02:23 AM PDT

I need some help with cluster jewels.

I have been roughly following this guide for my storm brand elementalist and am now at the point where cluster jewels come in to play. The build feels really solid so far and I started low red maps. Really good clear, bossing and 7.4k ehp. The only problem is delirium 4+ where the golems die occasionally but I'm skipping them a lot since the heavy delirium lag tends to kill me sometimes.

    My character: ErnaDaVal

For the cluster jewels I'm not sure which path I should take. I have a large cluster with 8 passives and primordial bond at the moment. The small passives give me pretty much nothing (6 life) but the notable seems so insane with 6 golems. I'm not sure if it's worth it though.

Then I have a herald medium one. Heraldry could give me the opportunity to run flesh and stone but I think I would need to do something about the manareg to make it feel good and I would also have to ditch phase run. I rolled empowered envoy as my second notable which is probably not the best but still a nice boost.

Which cluster jewels would you suggest?

    1. Would you skip primordial and go with a lightning large cluster?
    2. Would you try to squeeze in flesh and stone with heraldry?
    3. Do you have any other recommendations (gear/passives)?
