    GGG's Olympics Manifesto

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 08:00 AM PDT

GGG has been brought on to manage the Olympic Games from 2022 onward. We have evaluated the powercreep that Olympic athletes have exhibited over the last 2000 years and believe it is not in line with our vision for the longevity of the games. We believe the following interventions are necessary to prolong the fun and exciting exhibition that we have all come to love:

    • Olympic pools have become too easy to swim in. We will be adding a gelatin mix to all swimming events to slow athlete's speeds.

    • Scoring in basketball has become too rewarding. We have made the hoop 20% smaller to be more in line with the size of the basketball. This will encourage new strategies and mix up the meta.

    • Cycling, marathons and other endurance sports have become too dependent on hydration. We never should have allowed water to be so freely used during events. Dehydration and the fear of injury and death should be a real and present fear for all athletes who participate in endurance sports. This will be more exciting for everyone.

    • Near perfect Gymnastics scores have become too obtainable. We are regularly seeing athletes attempting the most difficult combinations and succeeding. We believe that the end game of Gymnastics should be harder to reach. We are lowering the difficulty scores accross the board and requiring an additional 360 degree rotation to all existing aerial maneuvers to obtain the previous scores.

    • Javelin's will now weigh 35% more, and be 23% thicker.

    • Pole vaulting has been temporarily removed from the games as we are seeing heights and distances that were unintended with our core vision. When we have figured out a way to address movement events in the future we will let you know.

    • Synchronized swimming has been removed. This is a buff.

    • Football has been renamed Soccer and Soccer has been renamed Football.

    • Volleyball nets are now 3% lower. This should encourage more people to play Volleyball..

    • We have reworked the first phase of the pentathalon. The fencing round now uses 20-40% shorter swords and will be randomized for each competitor. We expect this to create an overall more dynamic event. If you are a streamer please contact us to ensure you get the least nerfed sword length.

    • Weightlifting has been reworked to ensure the atheltes more accurately feel the weight. Each weight has a random amount of additional weights attached to it which must be picked up individually. Each additional weight will weigh 1 pound but can be attached in groups of up to 17.

    • Team rowing has been untouched. We believe 5 people carrying 1 who does nothing but provide support is the ideal version of competition.

Looking forward to 2022! Please buy our 2022 themed uniforms! We apologize if the black shirts look white upon arrival. Trust us. They are black. Your lighting is just poor.

Edit: I told my wife I won the Internet today and she was proud of me. I have now truly won PoE Olympic gold. Only took me a decade.

Still my favorite game, but missing 3.13 :(

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 04:09 AM PDT

The nerf didn't cause this huge outbreak - it's the accumulated discomfort, that were overshadowed by GGG's "good patches".

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 09:26 AM PDT

Poe has a lot of problems. No games are perfect, every game has problem, but PoE had some issues that players have been screaming for a LONG time, which only very few of them were being actually addressed.

Power spike, while debatable, is obviously one of them. It's OK for a game company to think that their content being cleared lightning speed is a problem. Their analysis, their game designer could think that despite someone being extremely experienced, basically finishing endgame in one or two weeks in unhealthy for the game. That's a valid "problem" GGG can have.

The thing is, PoE had a lot of problems that basically drove people crazy, to the point where people actually would quit/be disinterested because of that. However, cool new contents, new skills, unique reworks, ascendancy rework and stuff like that kept people playing - despite each people would have their own "man I'm gonna quit PoE if they don't fix this" , GGG's "good patches" were enough to result in "net positive" or at least "net zero".

Those problems are famous and are the ones we know - monsters oneshot with no counterplay, item diversity getting worse, build freedom getting worse, clicking is worse than ever, splinter is worse than ever, some contents are obsolete/untouched and is there to confuse new/and even experienced people, breach is not the one that's actually giving you the breachstone, we still trade harvest in discord, progressing is super tedious and grindy, etc, etc. like, a lot of them.

All the popular and common problems, that players were screaming for multiple years.

GGG kinda did very little to address them. In fact, for some of them, made them worse. One "good" thing I can remember where they actually fixed their long lasting problem - was the stash tab affinity, and man that's what actually brought me back to the game.

OK I'm not here readdress all the problems here again - we just all know those problems exist, and those were basically giving players anger charges. Those bad things just passively gives players like 5 anger charges per league unless fixed, but the good contents, or good changes basically used them up, so players could remain in the game without much anger charges.

Problem is that this patch actually offered virtually NOTHING to players, instead they removed what players used to have. Basically a net negative, and those same "long persisted problems" now just feels worse, and on top of that, the nerf resulted in decreasing build diversity too. Look at how click heavy expedition is too. 20 splinters is really fun to deal with.

So this league not only failed to remove the passively stacking 5 anger charges, instead it just added another passive of "VISION OVER PLAYERS" which would just grant another 3 anger charges per league now.

You could address power creep and slow the pace down all you want. Not many players are against that. But the order was wrong, GGG needed to address the long persisting problems first THEN potentially do the gigantic nerf to players, potentially with drop in mob damage too.

I think the lesson is not "Wow people really fucking hate the nerfs". and I really hope GGG doesn't take wrong lessons.

Did GGG use "Immune to curses" instead of "Hexproof" in Expedition just so we have no way to play around it?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 11:14 AM PDT

Playing Occultist i figured the "Immune to curses" would be a free mod to pick with expedition until i noticed none of the enemies getting cursed.I'm guessing the same goes for Awakened Hextouch too.Feels kinda bad when i find something my ascendancy should be to good at only to be slapped in the face by these things.

The fifth new PoE Wiki: PoEDB Wiki mode

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 08:34 AM PDT

As we all know, there are now 4 PoE wikis.

And players still joke on the fifth.

i get the feeling we will end up with 5 different wikis and i will not know which one to use - Ifirnja

We need a few more competing wikis, we clearly dont have enough of them yet. - zeru_poe

After careful consideration in the past few seconds, PoEDB decided to follow up.

PoEDB adds wiki-like editing functions (only basic Markdown) to each page. If you are interested in joining, You need to send ChuanHsing a forum message to get editing permissions.

You can see that some of the PoEDB webpages have new content, such as https://poedb.tw/us/Expedition_league

Remind that PoEDB is an indie website that only contains PoE modifiers. PoEDB has only one maintainer and cannot meet any difficult new requirements.

    Remember 3.15

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:58 PM PDT

    Chris, Awakener of Balance

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:04 AM PDT

GGG. Just balance the game around SSF.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 07:29 PM PDT

It's the most fun way to play. Most streamers play SSF anyway. No one likes trading, we just do it because we have to. The economy in this game was cute when the game was young and there was nothing else to do, but now it's a chore and it's making your game less fun and you guys are clearly too scared of making trading better because of what the D2 devs have told you about item accessibility.

Let the 80 hours a week players get their crazy loot, and make your game fun.

3.13 was the most fun because there was actual item progression in the game and the abundance of harvest made it so we could easily complete atlas w/o trading, make good items without trading and run super juiced maps without trading.

    Fuck Trading.

Edit: There seems to be a weird number of people yelling about how they still want to have trading in the game. I'm not saying there should be NO trading. I just don't think the game should be balanced around the idea that we are all going to trade for all our gear progression and tedious things we need to progress through the game at a reasonable pace.

I'll be honest, the thing I'm still by far the most upset about? The Harvest nerfs.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 09:22 AM PDT

Not the greatest patch ever, but OK I'm still having fun with the game. Mana is rough but I can try to work around that, hell I know I'm dumb but I'm even trying out a CoC cospris build. Having our amazing chase items nerfed (HH, awakened gems) just feels bad, but whatever I'll still use them if I can.

But damn, guess if I want to incrementally upgrade my character myself over time I can go f*ck myself eh? If I wanted to try my hand at crafting my items I'm sh*t outta luck. Harvest was strong yes, and needed a nerf yes, because players with 200+ mirrors on standard were making items that rivaled entire ascendancies in power. But fun fact, most players do not have 200+ mirrors, I sure as hell don't, and to me harvest was a way to actually improve my exiles to where I was happy with them as a direct result of my own time investment. I could make good items but damn I had to work for em, and I play a lot. It was the first time I ever seriously considered crafting my own gear. It was so hype whenever I found one in maps, regardless of what build I was playing or how far along I was. It was really fun, but it seems we all know GGG's vision for fun in PoE.

Now it's the same sh*t grind; I get to maps, I farm as much currency as possible, I buy items for my build, I play the build. My cat could do this. I don't feel like I have any personal input on my characters' itemization, other than the choices I make regarding what to buy. Again, I'm still having fun with the game, but 3.15 just drove home how badly I still feel about one of the most fun mechanics I've had in 5000+ hours getting given to us for a league or two, then getting promptly taken away.

Waiting for Someone to Find that OP Clear Speed Build

What astonishes me is I don't think he was joking

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 10:31 AM PDT

It’s frustrating how many mechanics as melee are either wait or be strong enough to face tank them.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:37 PM PDT

I haven't played much since heist, but just feel incredibly frustrated sometimes as melee at the lack of thought surrounding newer mechanics as a melee.

I quit with a month of heist when I made a cyclone and just had to face tank a lot of doors or die. If it wasn't for use flask on savage hits I'd die instantly plenty of times this league too.

It feels like the more I interact with old and new mechanics I didn't try as melee the more irritated I am by it. Harvests with T4 seeds? My options as a non cyclone melee are either face tank or go through incredibly tedious options. Stand far outside of the icicle artillery mobs and slowly bait a couple of the enemies at a time then once they're alone dash in attack a couple times and dash out before the icicles can reach me. Same thing with one of the lava map bosses that's a goat and has the fire rain spell.

Maven enhanced bosses? The orbs are just incredibly annoying. The orbs that follow and just deal damage over time mean I have to run away from the boss to bait them off them then run back to him or just sit until they switch off. The lasers? Manageable just annoying.

Redeemer? Pray the cloud doesn't move her to the outer area otherwise you step on the opposing side of the map and wait the second or two for her to slowly move over. Crusader maps? Gotta love when a mob is sitting in one of his rune squares. Basically just baiting him to come out of it so you can hit him.

I don't mind the dodge boss attacks like crusader or sirus, but there's so many that are just a pure defensive stat check and for me personally that's just made worse by how RNG evasion and dodge are in particular as a primary and secondary defense for those types of builds as well. I like being able to invest into a build to eventually just faceroll like that but I wish it didn't feel like such a slog when you're not able to.

Why not make Harvest an untradeable resource and buff it back?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 10:19 PM PDT

Title. Would an easy, agreeable "fix" to Harvest not simply be to make any and all items crafted through Harvest untradeable? It allows GGG to buff spawn rate of crafts, make the system more powerful again, and not worry as much about the issues with the tradability of crafts and the problems that arise from being able to over-acquire Harvestcrafts and make insane gear. I feel as though it's a win-win: players are rewarded for time invested, they have less ways to bypass that investment.

Seems like a great solution, maybe I'm crazy.

Bug fixes for previous league contents seems to have reversed. At least confirmed for Abyss, Blight & Heist.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 04:52 AM PDT

Since the last patch (pc realm) followings have occured :

    • Abyss cracks travel once again on the whole map, sometimes in a circular pattern, sometimes in multiple lines resulting in really long abyss
    • Blight invincible rhoas are once again a thing in blighted maps
    • Had a portal spawning blight mobs that directly appeared on the pump in a blighted map, saw the core ticking down 1 by 1 in less than a second without even the ability to target the mobs
    • Lost a full juiced blighted map for no reasons : opened it, went to another player hideout to do a quick trade (roughly 10 seconds), came back to my ho to see all portals closed and the map wasn't in the device (yes I was alone with the other guy in party and yes my portals are locked)
    • I've seen some people complaining they were once again getting stuck in heist door without the ability to do anything besides dc'ing (though didn't happen to me)

I wouldn't be surprised if more bugs related to old league contents reappeared.
