DPS Benchmarks / Requirements as of 3.17

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 12:40 AM PST

    Hello exiles,

I've been away from PoE for a while now, and I missed several seasons. I would like to know what are the numbers I should be targeting for contents as of 3.17. I don't want to melt or destroy everything, I'm looking for DPS numbers that are needed to comfortably do the content in an acceptable time frame. You can assume I have enough defenses to keep me from dying left and right.

What would be the DPS required for red maps? for end-game bosses? You might give numbers for other content as well.

    Thanks in advance

Which weird defensive build ‘tricks’ or combos do you like to use?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 09:40 PM PST

So I realize I really enjoy builds that aren't obvious at first glance - builds that have weird tricks to them that make the whole thing tick. Right now for instance I'm playing a build where I convert phys damage to cold to fire in order to take advantage of both hatred and cold to fire support to boost the damage of blade blast, in this case. Is that objectively the best way to build damage for BB? Probably not. But it's working well, and it brings a smile to my face doing this kinda 'weird stuff'.

I have a bunch of weird offensive tricks. I don't know many weird defensive ones, though. What are your favorites? Specifically I'm thinking about abusing 'damage taken as' or things like that - I don't really know much about how to stack that all effectively, and would love to hear some niche, overly complex (but effective) techniques for boosting a build's defense.

    Let me know your favorites!

[3.17] Lightning Strike Poison Assassin Day 4 Update

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 04:25 PM PST

Hey guys, here with a day 4 build update, just wanted to say if you're still leveling with helix: STOP AND USE LS AND JUST SCALE PHYSICAL/CHAOS. We've tested this, and had multiple other people play it and it's so much better than painchamping through maps with helix. Make sure you have pierce from helmet enchant, anomalous lightning strike, or piercing shots on the tree. Make sure you have adder's touch on the tree. You're going to want to use phys daggers to level, such as temple daggers with the increased physical damage and physical damage as extra chaos, or a taproot is great. I cleared a t16 map with a taproot on a 5 link (I was still in elemental damage setup). Your links would be Vaal Lightning Strike -> Nightblade -> Multistrike -> Ancestral call -> unbound ailments and either added chaos or melee physical damage. That way it's LS through and through. Obviously if you have +1 strike gloves, you'd replace ancestral call.

Having said that, the daggers are down to like 40-50c, so maybe just better to grab one, but if you're just starting the league, mighty flay, a temple dagger, or taproot is amazing to carry you. Build is going incredibly smooth, we're almost 96 and soon going to start getting influence bases for big boi damage. Let me know if you guys have any questions or feedback!

Explosive arrow - looking for top tier rings / necklace for this build

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 03:44 AM PST

I was wondering if anyone had a pob/ player profile that they can possibly send me that has explosive arrow gear that melts bosses?

I have 12 ex I want to invest in necklace and rings and I'm not sure what the "top tier" versions of these would look like.

    Looking for big damage! (:

What's your most fun build right now?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 05:16 AM PST

I started explosive arrow ballista elementalist and am currently doing t16 maps on a 1 ex budget. While the build is very strong, I'm not really feeling it. Thought about jungroan's poison / ele helix but people who tried it, seemed not too happy with it. Mage skeletons are also meta, but are they fun? Also I've never played DD. What are your strong and fun builds which are easy to get going?

Looking for a build to min-max

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 02:11 AM PST

I'm currently gathering currency with my league starter and would like to play a build which includes the points: utilizes headhunter, as well as elevated tailwind/onslaught boots, will have good phys reduction as well as evade chance, possibly spell suppress maxed. I played Ele hit raider in the past and really enjoyed it, not that tanky, but I was considering doing it again, but would prefer a different build. Also was looking into new jewels that give ascendency nodes, looks fun for a ranger bow build. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you in advance

Why don't more builds use lifetap?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 03:14 PM PST

It seems to me the damage loss of dropping your lowest dps gem for lifetap is fairly small on it's own. Add in better rings and amulets overall (not having to rely on elreon crafts)and for attack builds, more uptime of feed the fury / fuel the fight and I feel you come out ahead most of the time in damage while being able to ignore mana completely for your main skill.

Am I missing something? Such a small amount of leech or life regen completely negates the life cost in end game builds as it is. You already build into those things.

3M DPS Trinity Blade Vortex Ascendant

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 03:45 AM PST

Hey there, recently tried to theorycraft around the newly buffed Blade Vortex.

While there are a couple of staples out there like the Occultist/Inquis variants, I wanted to try and create a build that can replicate a bit of the former Indigon Glory days.

    https://pastebin.com/wAWMS6CZ

This is an Occultist/Pathfinder Ascendant with 3M DPS, 10k Armour/EV, perma flasks (perma ToH), good aoe while mapping (intensity will be down) and acceptable clear with Herald of Ash (with some Aoe investment aswell).

Damage is scaled through omniscience and trinity, overall budget would be 10-15ex, but I think some of the gear can be made quite easily if you know how to craft it yourself.

    Eternal Blessing and Life Reservation

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 01:24 AM PST

Eternal Blessing disables non-Blessing skills which reserve mana. Considering it's a gem-ified Mortal Conviction, does that mean that life reservations with Arrogance will still work?

PSA: You can still use Arrogance to reserve auras with Life even while Eternal Blessing is active, since Eternal Blessing only disables non-Blessing skills that reserve mana. I have an Arrogance - Precision with Grace - Eternal Blessing and both work - I'm seeing increases to my evasion, accuracy, and crit with all of them active. The moment I take out Arrogance, Precision deactivates so yeah, Eternal Blessing does work with Arrogance'd auras.

This could be used for running casual minor auras (Vitality, Precision, Clarity) or 10% reservations (Banners, Temporal Rift), but due to Arrogance's large reservation multiplier is less advisable for anything beyond that. It could still be used for Heralds or other 25% reservations in a pinch, and especially if you want to activate LL.

Help making my skeley mage build have more DPS

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 11:36 PM PST

I'm at 360k DPS and Von at 2million.

This is my first time building a skeley mage build and I feel like it's lacking a lot of DPS. It's pretty tanky - i'm following Von's build, but I just did my first Pit of the Chimera and it took like 100 yaers and 3 deaths. Any tips for the next best upgrades?

Unexpected Budget Wander: "Showcase" and Next Steps? (SSF)

    Posted: 09 Feb 2022 02:37 PM PST

TL;DR: Rolled a Trickster Trinity wander with some lucky SSF drops (Mind of the Council + Cloak of Defiance + Call of the Brotherhood); looking for pointers as to next steps to take this to full endgame. Other constructive comments/general questions on the build welcome.

I got really lucky with a Treant Horde unique drop session, landing Mind of the Council, Cloak of Defiance, and Call of the Brotherhood. With mana-based damage stacking becoming a little more viable with Eternal Blessing allowing access to auras, I decided to roll up a Trickster to take advantage of those items. I didn't initially intend to play a wander, originally looking at bow builds or spellcasting, but crit scaling with Fusillade and a serendipitous Storm Prison nudged me in that direction.

Build as planned - https://pastebin.com/k0qsDyyY; build as it is now - https://pastebin.com/sxFsCqKy.

This post is both a showcase of the build idea as well as a request for help in taking it further; I have a rough idea of what I need to do but would appreciate guidance from more experienced players of this archetype.

Offensively, the idea is to go with mana stacking relying on the mana bonuses from Cloak of Defiance and Weave the Arcane. Mind of the Council and Arcane Cloak then convert this mana into flat lightning damage, supplemented by Sigil of Power and Added Lightning Damage. Call of the Brotherhood partially converts lightning damage into cold damage to tap on Trinity bonuses and provide freezes and chills for safety. Trickster's Harness the Void and Swift Killer provide key bonuses to chaos damage and charges, and Hydrosphere and Mark on Hit - Sniper's Mark round out the damage.

Defensively, Grace is paired with Eternal Blessing to keep all mana clear for Arcane Cloak and the inbuilt 40% MoM from Cloak of Defiance (and the +30% lightning MoM from Mind of the Council). Hydrosphere is linked to Blind support to boost evasion as well as accuracy. Life and mana leech (from Clever Thief and wand masteries) and ES leech (from the elemental mastery) are responsible for recovery. Because of the leech, I'm not particularly minded to burn the three points for Ghost Dance, which would otherwise be usual for this type of build. Escape Artist significantly boosts ES and evasion, and lastly, mitigation is provided by Arcane Cloak, Sigil of Power and Frost Shield in combination, which reduces incoming enemy damage and diverts it to a number of other pools. So far, this has been deceptively tanky although tough rares like 4x Archnemeses have occasionally been able to oneshot me, or outdamage my regen.

This is therefore a bit of a middle of the road build between int-stacking wanders and the Ice Bite Raider version. While the overall concept is similar to an int stacker it takes some cues from Archmage and CotB builds, and AFAIK this particular combination isn't very meta. CoD and MotC are 1-alch uniques, and CotB is 10 chaos on trade at the moment, so it's not that expensive a build for its relatively good performance.

My plan for the build, on which I'd appreciate tips, is as follows (in an SSF context):

    • Short term
      • Spell suppression
        • I currently have 50% unconditional suppression and 20% more from full life and quartz flasks. To cover the rest, 2x T3 suppress mods on both gloves and boots should take me to 100. Any other sources of suppress?
      • Shield
        • Possible candidates include Manastorm, which will trigger on Hydrosphere, or Esh's Mirror for even more flat damage. But a rare is probably best to be able to get elemental ailment avoidance off flasks.
      • Flasks
        • Balance resists for more penetration with Wise Oak, and use Atziri's Promise for even more chaos added.
        • Must MoM builds all run mana flasks?
    • Medium term
      • Elemental ailment avoidance
        • Shields can now roll 30% avoidance mods. I'm thinking of using an anoint for Arcane Sanctuary for another 25%, but I'm at a loss as to where the remaining ~50% should come from. Shaper boots are possible but a bit of a jam because BIS would be Tailwind/Elusive boots.
        • The problem with the anoint is that it directly competes with things like Overcharge or Lethality which are full 10% boosts to the build.
      • Corrupted Soul
        • This makes the build truly hybrid, as damage will go to all three pools and leech will recover all of them simultaneously. Currently, ES gates the operation of MoM; this won't be the case once Corrupted Soul (in the Pain Attunement location) kicks in. Because of that, Life, ES and Mana all operate as one HP pool in effect, so I'm not too worried that my individual pools are a bit low.
    • Long term
      • Elemental wand with crit, multi, atkspd, and spell + spell+mana mods.
      • Gripped Gloves
        • Possibly some combination of Elder/Redeemer/Warlord, for projectile attack buffs and pseudo-5L.
      • Tailwind/Elusive boots
        • Expensive project, and locks up the boot slot. Some planning has to be done to incorporate suppression here.
      • Forbidden jewels
        • Naturally, if I can score them, either of the Assassin Power Charge notables will be great.
      • Abyss jewels?
        • Considering I am already getting a lot of flat damage from mana scaling, are Abyss jewels still worth it for damage?
        • They might still be worth getting for avoidance IIRC as well as crit/life stats.

Looking at this overview, I'm concerned that a lot of my damage scaling will be backloaded, which might not be enough to get me through red maps. Are there any quick fixes for this that would be doable in an SSF environment?

The build is also a little limited in that the helm, chest, and a ring slot are locked up, so there are relatively few slots for improvement, and affix pressure is serious enough to avoid using more uniques if possible.

Also, should I try and preserve the relatively unique attack-Archmage style of the build, or should I aim to pivot to an int-stacker eventually? I don't have that much playtime and I'm worried that I won't have the time to satisfactorily pull off an int-stacker.

    Thanks in advance.
