Sometimes I feel like I am playing the game wrong

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 05:55 PM PST

First and foremost: Yeah, I know it's all about having fun and there is no "right" or "wrong" way of playing the game. But here comes a little rant about nothing specific but maybe someone can relate or it makes someone smile:

    • I set my character up defensively with 5k life, 2k ES MoM EB + Pious Path Vitality, 25k armor without flasks but with Determination + Defiance Banner, curse immune, freeze and chill immune, corrupted blood immune, decent chaos res and more or less 60% attack and spell block with Glancing Blows (capped with Rumis). Also CWDT Molten Shell and self cast Frost Shield. Was happy I got some free max res from the new implicit mods. Still die quite a lot to the endgame content (not on regular mobs or bosses, but things like Maven Invitations and Sirus), probably also due to the fact that I am self cast and not that experienced or mechanical good in each of the fights.

--> Meanwhile half of the subreddit seems to be running around with 90% all res from Melding of the Flesh + 60k armor and CI what is vastly superior to the wall of text I wrote above.

    • I get to about 2-3 million Sirus dps on my Self cast Purifying Flame build. That's without flasks but with Righteous Fire (sustainable). It's not consistent dps though cause it requires max intensity and ideally the crit buff from my Frost Shield.

--> Meanwhile people speak about having only 10-15 million Sirus dps.

    • I don't really know how to upgrade further without spending currency I don't have atm anyway. A staff upgrade would be around 25ex. I tried to six link my staff that is at least decent, so I can use another chest with additional curse, more life and armor (the 6 link I am using is on my current chest but the new one won't get the colours). Spent about 10ex - basically most of my league fortune so far - on fusings but it didn't happen (I know at some point the recipe would have been cheaper). Spent a few ex trying to craft a staff upgrade myself with fossils, didn't happen. Used about 800 alterations out of desperation to try to at least get a +3 phys spells magic staff as a further crafting base, didn't happen.

--> Meanwhile people are acquiring their Mage Bloods and Headhunters and seem to do insane builds on a 20-30ex budget, including the defensive setup I mentioned above.

    • When I am mapping I mostly just chisel alch and go, with a scarab thrown in every now and then. I very rarely sell anything that is potentially consumable by me (e.g. Scarabs, Essences, Div cards, maps, currency, fossils).

--> Meanwhile the efficient way to make currency seems to be to invest a lot to get even more returns but in any case to sell anything that's worth more than 10c and not currently needed. And I won't even begin to talk about juiced party play...

    • And yeah, the last frustrating moment: I bricked my first two Mavens this league, largley due to the fact that at some point there is too much shit going on so that I just can't see the memory game. It's not like I can't mesmerize it - I am usually really good at that - I just can't see what's going on. Lost my last portal due to a missplay when Maven probably had 11% hp in her last phase left (cull at 10%).

So overall I really don't know where to go anymore, it feels like I am doing zero progression. And ofc I could probably just copy one of the builds I spoke about but there is little I like less than blindly copying another build (and as I said I am pretty broke atm anyway). How are you doing fellow exiles?

Anne's Atrocious Autobomber - 3.16/3.17 EO/Non-Crit Herald of Thunder Elementalist. A long winded update.

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 05:02 PM PST

Exiles, I am aware it's almost two weeks into 3.17, and what I am posting is based around 3.16 gear (and none of the new implicits or uniques) but work, life, kids, and pure laziness got in the way of doing this earlier. In December a friend issued a challenge that I could not league-start Herald of Thunder Autobomber for 3.16 and clear A8 Sirus. Said friend owes me 50 ex in Standard and I'm here to tell you about my experiences. You know who you are, cough up the Exalts you welcher, or forever be shamed.

    I present to you:

    Anne's Atrocious Autobomber

(v2, again with 5L setup for the poor). Why "Atrocious"? Alliteration. I had a long winded explanation but this sounds better.

    About this "guide"

I need to stress that I'm not really giving a proper guide here. A proper guide has alternate levelling trees and outlines the skills and steps to get you up to the relevant power. Enki, Wrecker Of Days, and a billion streamers out there do guides. My last main post about this build had lots of PoBs with alternate trees/clusters and mocked-up gear to show power progression and possibilities. That was a guide (shit and rambling but still a guide).

I'm not doing that again. Mostly because I'm lazy.

I'm instead relying on your ability to work backwards from what I posted towards your own levelling tree, and obtain for yourself the items required for resistances, stats, etc. At the minimum I'm going to expect you to be able to do basic essence and fossil spam to get double/triple res boots, +3 staff, decent amulet, have most of the needed bench crafts, and to be comfortable in the use of Harvest and other mechanics for crafting. Either that or be able to purchase from those people on trade that know how to do those things. All the items in the PoBs I post are either items I got for cheap from trade or crafted myself, they are (mostly) not crazily expensive items that are out of reach of most players.

I'll outline in the comments any special crafting steps required for any specific item. Where reasonable I'll also provide some video highlights of certain game mechanics. It's not a showcase, but you should get a decent idea.

    What can the build do?

    • Map clear like nothing else I've played
    • Handle Sirus A8 (now the default level?), Conquerors, and most endgame bosses (including the new ones) without too much issue.
    • Elemental reflect maps (!!) are possible without the using Bastion of Elements
      • Pantheon and Mastery change required, but at the cost of 1 regret orb and a couple of clicks in your HO.
    • Heist, Harvest, Ritual, breachstone content not an issue.
      • throw down a Void Sphere for crowd control
    • Low tier maps with Delirium up to 100% without a HH. High tier maps up to 40% was tested fine.
      • Don't look at high tier 100% Deli unless you can scratch up a skull belt though.

    Where does it struggle?

    • Maven herself is a very very fight iffy due to the beams that stop your regen and leech (at least for me). I can take her down but it takes a couple of portals minimum.
    • High IIQ Maven invitations (Feared/Formed/Twisted/Elderslayers etc) can be rippy unless you know the boss mechanics.
      • Drox slam is stupid powerful in the Maven arena for some reason.
    • Pure Chayula boss can be challenging with the Chaos Cyclone maneuver
      • the breach map/mob part is no problem and normal Chayula boss wasn't an issue for me, but Pure hit me hard.
    • High Tier 100% Deli without a Headhunter is just flat out not an option
      • Tested 40% T16 no probs, but I tried 100% for proof of concept and...forget it without a HH or stacking Inspired Learning jewels (or both).
    • While reasonably capable of clearing a few lines of rewards in 4/5-ways, there are many Headhunter/Inspired Learning builds that are much better at this.

    What I didn't run/test properly:

    • Simu past wave 20
      • Will test this week and update post.
    • Uber Blight
      • not a fan. I did test some Blight maps but I really don't like the mechanic so...
    • Uber Breachstones
      • Never got to it, will test this week and update post.
    • Harbinger other than just randomly in maps
    • I will give each of those (and any other mechanics requested) a go or three with my now-migrated STD char and will update accordingly.

    About the build:

This is a non-crit/Elemental Overload build, which means we don't need to stack up power charges and crit multipliers and can focus on total life/ES pool as well as methods to mitigate damage and recovery. With shock effect, exposure, curses, and using lightning/elemental penetration, you can get the hits from the Herald to be pretty powerful, even without high crit. We need some base crit for HoT do be able to trigger EO, hence the decision to invest in some crit chance.

Because we are focussing on recovery and ES/Life pools, this version of the build can take a bit more abuse than others I've seen. Most of the build is pretty standard for the type.

Main differences in my setup from most builds I see:

    • Ascendancies: We don't need Bastion of Elements. If you want to take it to feel comfortable, go ahead it's your char, but it's not required.
    • Anointing Ethereal Feast increases our ES leech by 40% per second, making it easier to keep ES in place. This works well in combination with stacking up ES.
    • 20/20 Anomalous Immortal Call (with 20/20 Increased Duration) on left click.
      • Most builds rely on a low level Immortal Call/Cast When Damage Taken setup. I thoroughly recommend using Level 20 Immortal Call on left click instead.
        • A L1 CwDT can support a L3 Immortal Call which grants 26% less Elemental and phys damage taken, and has a mana cost of 57 without any other supports.
        • A L20 Immortal Call grants 34% less elemental damage taken and 35% less physical damage taken, and when linked to L20 Increased Duration costs 46 mana.
        • Additionally, a 20 quality Anomalous Immortal Call has 20% coodlown recovery, and with 4 endurance charges consumed you have an uptime of over 50% (2.54s with 2.5s cooldown).
    • Mana Mastery "recover 10% of Mana on using a Guard Skill" means that we are very rarely caught short with mana.
    • Using a medium cluster with Chilling Presence to chill bosses, allowing for Hypothermia Support.
    • Jewel slots are mostly rares with life/resists/lightning damage.
      • I don't use Grand Spectrum, Replica Fragile, or other odd unique jewels other than clusters and Thread of Hope.
    • A secondary CwDT loop with L1/20 Divergent Purifying Flame and L3 /L4 Enhance provides 9% increased damage taken to enemies.
      • I use this in a 6L with my Anom Golems which also benefit from the Enhance gem.
    • Bossing with a 6L Battery Staff.
      • The implicit means that the CwDT loops slotted in there don't abuse your mana pool.
      • The ES implicit helps stack with your total ES which means you have enough in place for leech to keep it there. Think of it like a middle-tier ES shield but it's a 6L instead.
      • There is no need to conform to Agnerod's large STR requirement
      • When I started writing this guide, staves were about 20c and agnerod over 1ex. It looks like they swapped positions.
      • It's easy to craft +3 Lightning and bench something that gives as much damage as Agnerod (according to PoB).
      • Crafting steps outlined in the comments.
    • Mapping with a decent ES shield and a conductivity on hit wand.
      • This is the contentious one.
      • I get panned for this but you can see in the videos below that even with HoT in a 5L and a pretty shitty/cheap wand/shield combo it's enough to clear corrupted T16 maps.
      • The wand was literally 10c, the shield 15c and I think I got ripped off. The shield provides much needed ES to keep the leech and recovery in place. Later on I changed to a +2 min frenzy shield that I crafted (and lucked out on rolls, steps in the comments) which does as good as a +1 lightning shield, but you can start with a relatively common and cheap +1 lightning shield.
      • The curse on hit from the wand also includes Explosions from Inpulsa - meaning that the clear pushes further out, anything not killed by the initial explosion will come down quick on the next hit.
      • Because every enemy in a mob touched by the explosion is cursed, the nodes leading to Carrion (2x2% Life on Kill against Cursed Enemies) becomes quite powerful in hard, large mob content.

    PoBs

Note that for each you can swap between "mapping" and "bossing" item configs to see the basic damage.

https://pastebin.com/7NgHxhpn 5L with Inward Eye helm.

    • This is the cheapest version, is able to clear T16 corrupted maps, and is pretty much the build I used to kill Mastermind the first time around (minus a few levels) subsequently selling off the syndicate crafts to get more currency for later builds.
    • The default item setup is "map" to show how low the damage is but as you can see it does over 1m sDPS with no flasks, a 5L, and a wand/shield combo. 1.8m with the staff.

https://pastebin.com/0iLH5eA4 is the build that I show in most of the below videos.

    • The key item here is the helm which provides a lot of power.
    • I will explain crafting steps in the comments (the ES was pure dumb luck).
    • I purposefully removed the staff I used in my final build to show something that is in reach crafting-wise for exiles.

https://pastebin.com/iqPbds1f is the final build I had in scourge.

    • I have since updated the staff in Standard because I had access to legacy remove cold harvest crafts, and forced T2 Crusader Pen prefix.
    • I have also since then taken to using an Annihilating Light staff which killed my resistances but absolutely slices through bosses.

    Videos:

First PoB (5L, wand/shield, and inward eye)

    Second PoB:

    Third PoB:

I didn't record anything, can do if you want me to. Just imagine PoB #2 vids but faster boss kills. That staff thumps.

If you want to see any other content let me know.

    Gear upgrades:

This is the build I used in Scourge so I never got around to fixing the boots or belt. Future upgrades would include a crystal belt with redeemer "damage against chilled enemies" mod along with crusader increased lightning prefixes (and if possible the influenced ES prefix and ES recovery suffix), but that would have necessitated a bit more mucking around to fix resistances and honestly I was happy where I was. I hit 24 challenges, L96, and a pretty decent build, just waiting on payment of my bet.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I didn't bother updating any flasks basically since acts. I did have a wise oak at some stage, and I strongly recommend that if you use any parts of this build just...don't look a the flasks :)

What build can I play with this?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 08:58 AM PST

Aurabots are cheap as hell to make they are not dead and it may be the best league to do it.

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 12:42 PM PST

Not a rant. I just managed to built a 87 res 12 aura with 15 ex. Literal 15 ex. Everywhere is flooded with Ascendant/Champion aurabots now (and surprisingly %3 percent on poe.ninja) but hey, it is even doable with 10- ex (SnapOW's aurabot is around 5 ex lmao. )

It may be the best league for this so I encourage building aurabot %100 if you want to make one for running around and leeching currency.

and I am mostly solo player I don't know why the fuck I made an aurabot.

Melding of the Flesh+Aegis Aurora= almost immortal

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 11:54 AM PST

Getting to 90% max res is, as most of you probably know, incredibly powerful. After the de-facto removal of aurastackers (technically still possible to a tiny extend, but just not what once was :/ ) I wanted to try getting as tanky as possible again this league, as "Melding of the Flesh" allows you to get 90% all max res incredibly easily.

So, I built an occultist using aegis aurora, lvl 23 purity of ice, divine shield and glancing blows, and the new maximum resistance implicit on chest to get to 90% maxmimum resistance, while also using ci, and having a reasonable amount of 60k armor. It ended up incredibly strong.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1Ie1pcSFDI
In this video, I am discussing how to get 90 max res, how to fix your physical mitigation, and how to do it without mageblood. I have, and use, a mageblood and the first 4:30 of the video are me tanking a speedy "the hidden" invitation. The nr. 1 and nr. 2 guys on the solo delve ladder are both also using melding of the flesh to get tanky, one as pathfinder stacking maximum lightning with small clusters (using wizardry notable) and the other pretty much the same way I am doing with aegis aurora, chest implicit, and purity of ice. (his profile is hidden but he is a friend of mine) I talk about what those two are doing as well.

Here is a pob of my defensively well setup, but offensively giga scuffed coc forbidden rite occy. I just ran out of money, have a shitty 88% crit rate on cyclone, and could not even afford woke void manipulation, so there is a LOT to do to fix it offensively, but defensively, its incredible, maybe the tankiest char I have played since delirium aurastacker:

    https://pastebin.com/tTYjhTyx

I think with some levels and gear I can get to like 15-20 mil, maybe I can get the elementalist "all damage can shock" notable for even more damage, too. still gotta work out what i want between bottled faith, dying sun, greater volley, concentrated effect, and increased critical damage.

by switching out my helmet and belt and just adding in flagellant flasks i lose a lot of damage, but stay at 60k armor, but also lose like 1.9k es, so if any of you can come up with a good way to mitigate that es loss from not using the crown of the inward eye, i would be interested, as I really think this works just fine without mageblood, although mageblood takes it to the next level, obviously, as one flask suffix completely negates the melding downside.

    Some words of warning:

CoC might not be the way to go, self casting using nebulis might be the better option, but I wanted to try CoC

My CoC Setup is giga scuffed, and this build has mageblood, but if you use flasks with "flagelant" prefix and "use when charges are full" enchant mageblood can be replaced and you will still be incredibly tanky

it is still a very expensive build, even without mageblood; without mageblood, self cast is also almost guaranteed to be better, as capping crit gets VERY difficult.

aegis aurora is absolutely insane. so is divine shield. but neither work against degens, so get the burning ground pantheon and consider using a bleedflask or sth, degen is the only thing I have almost died to (and one phoenix explosion, when my molten shell was not up and i was fully degened)

-max res is still horrible to roll on maps, so is reduced aura effect

if you have any suggestions on how to make this build tankier, or if I am missing some super obvious way to improve this build even further, please comment :D

Rerolling to SSF - tanky build 1-2m DPS?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 05:46 PM PST

I'm tired of dying. Investing 5-10x into a build, having 80% chance to evade, capped resistances, 80% physical reduction armor, 80% spell suppression chance, 5k life + 1k es. - like I get they aren't perfect, but getting constantly one tapped in red maps is obnoxious and capping those stats costs currency or points I don't have.

Necro, raider toxic rain, seismic trapper - they've all had this issue for me. Necro was obnoxiously slow, toxic rain speed was great but dps on bosses was low and bow characters cost too much to step up, and seismic trapper can do t15s/t16s unalched, but the rare map mod pool has been so dirtied with these new mods that I'll die once every 2-3 maps if I do alch and go. It's burning me out.

I'm looking to go SSF, slow down, and take a much tankier build that can get to 1 - 2m DPS a bit easier, and atleasst give me time to react to hits rather than get surprise buttsexed by a random black mob on a black backgrounded map.

Any suggestions? HoAg? VLS Champ? RF Inquis?

Can someone here choose for me? I want to be able to do all content, be tanky, and be slightly fast. If you suggest mage skeletons, would you suggest ghazzy or von viktons guide? Thank you.

Hello fellow reddit friend. Only exception is no RF as I just cleared 80% of the atlas with it. And No PC. Have about 20ex and an AEGIS AUORA. Next build will be build I farm headhunter/squire/etc.

I'm genuinley torn and have no idea which way to go. My only pre requisites, is that it is an absolutely TANKY choker, and it has good speedy mapping.

Ideally using AEGIS AUORA :) but open to other suggestions as well.

Switching to LS Raider - How to spend currency

    Posted: 17 Feb 2022 02:51 AM PST

I recently found and sold a Doctor. I have just over 25 ex total saved up. It's the most currency I've had in a league in awhile, and I'm struggling to divide it between items to get the most bang for my buck. My goal is to have a fast mapper, but also be able to solo the end game bosses. Does this sound reasonable?

Claw: 5-7 ex Gloves: +2 strike - 6ish ex Armor: 8 ex Helm with enchant: ~2ex Fill in the other slots to cap res/get life.

Am I prioritizing incorrectly? Also, omniscience or no?

I'm likely overthinking it, but appreciate any input!

Please explain to me why exploding corpses (like inpulsa) can make the entire screen explode

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 10:58 PM PST

I mean inpulsa explosion cannot shock, HoT cannot shock, but somehow the entire screen explodes? I am not sure how that works, same goes with occultist explosion, it should explode the packs close to you I get that, but they just explodes the entire screen.

Can I save this build? Inferal Cyclone

    Posted: 17 Feb 2022 02:42 AM PST

    Hi all,

I wanted to try out completely different playstyle to my normal casters, and a video from "Path of Exile Builds" popped up in my YT-Feed. It was quite a nice video to follow along and appealed to me.

Fast forward, I leveled my Scion to 79 and get completely dumpstered in yellow maps.

So I went to the original PoB (https://pastebin.com/G7WyND68) and checked what I did wrong, quickly figuring out that my evasion rating did not come even close to the template. This was mostly due to the fact, it uses a "Jade Flask of Reflexes", granting +100% increased EV, while this suffix (as far as I know) isn't in the game anymore, leaving and "of the Impala" with +60%, explaining the massive difference.

I did invest some money into this build, ~10ex, only to be quite disappointed. As this build requires you to get close to enemies, the occasional hit one hits me. This is my current setup: https://pastebin.com/4k8qKHyp

So now to my question: Can I fix this? I'm willing to revamp my complete skill tree, and if necessary parts of my gear.

I guess it is on my for blindly following a guide, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been eyeing a replica dream feather build for a while and decided to roughly follow a pob from poe ninja: https://pastebin.com/13uPPp8W

But there are several questions that I do not understand and need help answering:

    • How are they sustaining life and mana? They have no source of leech AFAIK.
    • How do they have 128/123 points allocated? This is the pob code generated by poeninja site and I didn't change anything.
    • Why are they using lightning penetration alongside Doriani's prototype? Aren't mob resistances already below 0%?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2022 02:14 AM PST

    Hello,

I'm planning on playing a CDWT Ward loop for my next build. Looking on poe.ninja gives roughly 3 versions :

    - Spark + Ball Lightning + Blazing Salvo + Volatile Dead

    - Voltaxic Burst + Purifying Flame + Wave of Conviction

    - Frostbolt + Ice spear + other things

And some variations between those three.
But when importing these builds into PoB, and even after (I think) properly configuring (ailments, trying to artificially improve cast speed to match the cwdt cooldown), the DPS looks WAY worse than what you can see in game. A video where you can see someone delete the maven in 1 second displays 5.8M dps total in PoB (bot looks like 40-50M+ dps on the video).

Do you guys know if there is a special trick to properly calculate DPS in PoB for those builds ? I'm having a hard time comparing between the 3 versions...

For reference : https://pastebin.com/BZjWHTDZ (PoB of the guy deleting Maven, with 5.8M dps)

    Thank you
