GGG has probably already scaled Betrayal for next league

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 05:00 AM PST

In act 9 ( I'm pretty sure in the oasis) you meet Jun for the first time. This is supposed to start the league mechanic, like delve in act 4 and Alva in act 7. Doesn't this mean that there will be no more harbor bridge farming, so either the rewards will be scaled to high tier content, or Betrayal will be complete trash. Or am I being dumb and does Jun being in act 9 not mean that there will be no betrayal in lower acts?

Why are zombies AI worse than skeleton?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 09:22 AM PST

Summon both of them, the skeleton start actually going to attack enemies, but zombies just sit idle till you kinda of shoot spell towards enemy or they engage you first. Golems the same way, they can't really be controlled, just more nudged to right area. lol

It just seems the whole minion/golem thing is confusing and needs reworked.

Private league migration should be possible without characters

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 05:30 AM PST

Currently, league migration is only possible by migrating a character. This means the following non-character specific content can only be migrated if you have a character in the specific league:

    • Atlas progression
    • Crafted/veiled mod progression
    • Stash items
    • Guild stash items

That means if your private league ended and you do not have any character in the league anymore, all this content is stuck in the league and cannot be migrated.

Personally I sent an e-mail to support three weeks ago to get my content migrated to the parent league because I already migrated my only character to BSC. I would love to play some more Path of Exile in BSC but cannot really because all my items and progression are stuck in this private league hell. Obviously I could fund another week for the private league and create new characters to manually migrate all guild stash items, but this sucks.

    Most "useless" unique?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 01:13 AM PST

I found this helmet: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Veil_of_the_Night ... and I'm so much confused...

Most of the uniques are considered as "trash" just because they are tied to some niche mechanics, or just relatively weak; require too much resources to play around downsides...

But this helmet... It's just lacking any value.. Even for leveling — raw reflected damage numbers are really great for 27 level, but, you still need to block(and you won't have good chance at that stage), so you are forced by it to take hits without any resistances. And this is not an ability, you cannot support it with gems. It's working only against 1 enemy per proc. (I really tried to find at least some positives..)

So is there is uniques that are even "worse"?

    Talking about Impale

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 05:37 AM PST

Most of the discussion about Impale I've seen [And there's not a lot of it that I've seen] is mostly attached to the Steel skills. This is despite the fact that Impale can be attached to any physical attack hit via Dread Banner; Master of Metal and Crafted/Veiled Mods.

I want to talk about Impale as a mechanic. So that we can talk about if we'd like to see more support for Impale; more Impale skills, and so forth.

    Impale's Mechanics

An Impaleing hit takes 10% of the premitigation damage and 'stores' it. For the next 5 [Or 7 if you are a Champion with Master of Metal] hits; that 10% damage will be inflicted as reflected damage.

This effectively means an Impaleing hit has a 50~70% multipler provided all ticks of the Impale occur. And this is effectively a MORE MORE modifier since it's a multiplier on the damage that you deal.

An enemy may also have multiple instances of Impale. This means Impale can ramp in a similar fashion to Poison, except instead of a time-based counter, it's hit-based.

    Scenario 1 - Simple Example

You are using Shattering Steel and a weapon with a 20% Impale mod. Hits 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8 Impale out of 10 attacks.

    Hit 1: 100% damage; Impales

    Hit 2: 110% Damage

    Hit 3: 110% damage; Impales

    Hit 4: 120% damage

    Hit 5: 120% Damage, Impales

Hit 6: 130% damage, Impales, Impale 1 ends

    Hit 7: 130% damage

Hit 8: 130% damage; Impales; Impale from Hit 3 ends

    Hit 9: 130% damage

Hit 10: 130% damage; Impale from Hit 5 ends

Total Damage in 10 hits: 1210%

In this scenario; Impale granted 210% more damage in effect, 2 free attacks. Note this is in an instance where the Impale chance was 60% [Shattering is 40 Base and 20 from mod] but only 5 Impales occurred.

Scenario 2 - Adding in Master of Metal

Master of Metal grants a 20% increased chance to Impale, causes Impales to last 7 hits instead of 5, and adds 4~8 physical damage to hits per Impale on the enemy.

The 4~8 damage would actually increase the damage of the next Impale; but between scaleing of the added damage itself; and the variable stacks, I will not keep track of the added damage to the Impales themselves and only the raw added damage. 4~8 damage will be averaged as 6.

Using the same setup as before; there is now an 80% chance to Impale. As a result; on the 10 hit example, I shall assume only Hit 4 and 8 do not Impale.

    Hit 1: 100%

    Hit 2: 110% + [6*scaleing]

    Hit 3: 120% + [12*scaleing]

    Hit 4: 130% + [18*scaleing] - No Impale

    Hit 5: 130% + [18*Scaleing]

    Hit 6: 140% + [24*Scaleing]

    Hit 7: 150% + [30*Scaleing]

    Hit 8: 160% + [36*Scaleing] - No Impale; Impale 1 Ends

    Hit 9: 150% + [30*Scaleing] - Impale 2 Ends

    Hit 10: 150% + [30*Scaleing] - Impale 3 Ends

    Total Damage: 1,340% + [204 * Scaleing ]

Adding Master of Metal added over 100% damage; as well as the scaleing damage.

Scenario 3 - 100% Impale; adding in Dread Banner

Dread Banner makes things complicated, because it's an aura.

ALL effects of Dread Banner benefit from Aura Effect. This includes the chance to Impale and the Increased Effect of Impale.

For a realistic scenario; a Banner-using Champion [We're using Master of Metal after all] would take Inspirational. The Dread Banner would also be 20 Quality. This is 25% increased Aura effect.

While this dosen't impact the Impale chance [We're already at 100%; although this gives us wriggle room on the 20% mod] this does impact the increased impale effect.

Simply because it makes the math easier, I'm going to assume a Lv21 Dread Banner, which is +20% effect of Impale; which increases to 25% due to Aura Effect.

This increases the reflected damage by Impale to 12.5% per stack.

With a 100% chance to Impale; we're impaleing all 10 attacks.

    1: 100%

    2: 112.5% + [6*Scaleing]

    3: 125% + [12*Scaleing]

    4: 137.5% + [18*Scaleing]

    5: 150% + [24*Scaleing]

    6: 162.5% + [30*Scaleing]

    7 onward: 175% + [36*Scaleing]

    Total Damage: 1,487.5% + [234*Scaleing]

This is effectively almost 5 free hits for the first 10 you deal. And this value increases after the first 10 hits because you are Impaleing 100% of the time so every hit from 7 onwards works at 175% + [36*Scaleing] damage.

This figure however is still not Impale's cap. Dread Banner gains 50% aura effect when placed. You can squeeze out a few more levels of Dread Banner through +gem level. And; of course, there's +Aura Effect items and nodes.

All of these would further increase the 'Increased Impale Effect' from Dread Banner, and thus further increase the damage multipler.

    My Opinion

Impale is actually a very powerful mechanic, and while it's ramp-up nature isn't so much something that shines on clearing, it can be very powerful against stronger enemies such as bosses.

It's also worth mentioning that as a ramp-up damage that scales with physical damage, it naturally pairs pretty well with Poison, which is also a ramp-up damage that scales with physical damage. A build incorporateing Impale can likly benefit quite a lot from Poison as well; even if it's just a Poison Support gem.

This is even more worth noting as Impale characters are encouraged to be Champions, and thus Duelists, who start near several nodes which support Poison or damage from ailments with weapons; which would scale the Poison.

This could turn skills which are generally focused on clearing into quite effective boss killers; especially with high attack speed, between the Poison stacks and the flat added physical from Master of Metal. One could even work in a Herald of Agony; which would even have it's own Impale chance due to the aura from Dread Banner.

    Valuable unique bases

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 07:24 AM PST

tl;dr: I went over each item base and tried to see if this base has a valuable unique variant. If anyone wants to make a loot filter out of that, on the bottom of the post is a list of them.

This is only for betrayal softcore, I have no idea of standard or hc.

So first some explanations for newbies:

    1. If u sell a unique item to a vendor, you usually get a few alchemy shards from them (out of most of the uniques ~95%). So if you need alchemy orbs, this is a great way to sustain them.
    2. Item filter can only check for the base item. So if there are multiple unique variants of a base, some may be valuable, some may not. And exactly that, the filter can't distinguish. (e.g. base item: Carved Wand has two unique variants: "Storm Prison" and "The Poet's Pen" ... "Storm Prison" is a 1 alch item; "The Poet's Pen" is ~100c+)
    3. Most of the uniques are worth basically nothing. Some uniques are worth a lot more when the rolls are very good, best example would be "Ventor's Gamble" which price ranges between 50c to probably ~30ex (I have never seen a perfect one, but i would guess it would even be multiple mirrors). And some are just very good, doesn't matter the rolls e.g. "Headhunter", "Dying Sun".

Alright, this late into the league, I don't really care about alchs anymore, but I do want to see decent unique items => 3c. Thats why I asked earlier this day if anyone has a loot filter that hides most of the unique items, but still shows the once that are sellable to people if the rolls are fine.

Since nobody replied properly (when does reddit on questions anyways, sorry for the rant), I did the work myself and looked up every base item and the unique variants it has and made a list of the valuable ones. (https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com)

I also imported that into https://www.filterblade.xyz/ and made my own filter with that. You have to change the order after downloading the filter though, otherwise the load order doesn't work properly and you see a "Glorious Plate" as a common unique, which u probably don't want. Maybe someone knows how to do that in filterblade directly?

I don't know if I can somehow share that configuration to the public, if someone knows, I will gladly upload that aswell though.

If anyone finds a flaw in the list, please tell me and I will try to update that asap.

Why do I keep dying in red maps?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 05:51 AM PST

Doing a Mathil 3.4 Vaal DS Champion. Yellows seem pretty easy. Keep getting seemingly one shot by bosses at the end of red maps. I don't know what's wrong.

My damage feels sufficient. Not amazing as it could be with multi exalt gear, but pretty clean while mapping.

    http://poe-profile.info/profile/Hammer66

I don't feel my stats and gem setups are bad or crazily off from those who Uber with double strike.

I suspect my play is bad. Maybe I have to run away or hop in and out more.

Anyway, I've got about 200 chaos saved... so if it's a gear or build issues - any recommendations?

Edit: Thanks for all the great advice! I guess the guide had me thinking I was 'okay' on defense but adding some has made a huge difference. The blind on hit gem really made a massive difference. Will take some time to shop and retool but thank you for point me in the right direction!
