Props to GGG for Learning from Synthesis for the New Incursion League!

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 06:43 AM PDT

I'd like to thank GGG for learning their lessons from Synthesis league to make the new Incursion league one of the best yet!

    • In Synth, you didn't know the layout of a memory upon entering. You could see how many stabilizers there were, but you didn't know which direction to run as you raced against the clock. Incursion solves that issue by putting the two main targets above and below you in the same spot every time, as well as letting you know where the doors are located, all before you enter the instance.

    • In Synth, the memories decayed at a varying rate and you were often unsure of how much time was left before the memory collapses. In incursions, there's a nice timer at the top showing exactly how much time is left before you're booted.

    • In Synth, you were stuck with the memories you got and you had to place and activate them before you could delete/change them. In Incursion, you can always change a room by killing the bottom architect. You could also completely ignore the room when running the temple and it would simply go away when the temple resets.

    • In Synth, you were stuck with random memory orientations, preventing you from building the route you wanted. In incursions, you can use the Stone of Passage to open any door you want allowing you to navigate through the temple in the direction you want go.

    • In Synth, after working hard and running memory paths to get chain modifiers, you were rewarded with super-buffed memories that decayed when ran. Or you planned out your chain to reach a synthesized chest node that decayed when ran. It looks like GGG learned their lesson that PoE is about killing lots of monsters and not racing through a zone trying to find the final reward. I'm glad they decided to not implement a time limit for exploring the Temple of Atzoatl

Overall, I think this is a massive upgrade and I can't wait to see what GGG has in store for the next league!

edit: Just to be clear, the point of this post isn't to hurt the feelings of anyone over at GGG, I just wanted to give people that were frustrated by the league something to laugh at. There's a reason we're all still here shitposting instead of just moving on to a different game. At the end of the day, PoE's a good game made by good people. Even a bad PoE league is better than most other games.

GGG is in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation with its community.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 10:02 AM PDT

Ever since the start of these new types of leagues, there has been a growing voice inside the community for a return to much simpler league mechanics because the new leagues are too complex apparently. (lets ignore the fact that this community loves to brag about how complex this game is) It seems that this subreddit has completely forgotten that one of the main reasons we have these new types of leagues is because originally everyone was upset about how simple all the prior leagues were.

"Perandus league? you mean strongboxes except the mobs are already outside?"

"Essence league? you mean strongboxes with extra steps?"

"Breach league? you mean strongboxes you walk through?"

The community wanted something more than just "click on something -> kill mobs", and GGG delivered but now the community isn't happy with that, and it seems like no matter what GGG do, this subreddit will never be satisfied.

    Posting for visibility:

This video was made as a joke but it really echoed the communities thoughts at the time regarding the state of leagues.

How I feel about the league so far 2.0.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 06:45 AM PDT

Really unpopular opinion! Betrayal is good for the game.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 04:28 AM PDT

Well, you guys complain about power creep and how easy its to go so fast now.. but if there is something that stands in the way of zumzum mapping, god forbid. Running away? Never. Leaving the map because its too hard? Never. Going slow? Never. Im wearing QotF, why would i go slow? Thats reddit in a nutshell. The lag is real tough.. that should change. But leave them deadly please.

Edit - Basically we could agree that a way to disable is the way to go. Thanks everyone for the comments, I basically did the post with the intention to show that a lot of people want the difficult the game can present. I'm all up for an agreement guys, tough I rant in my original post.

    • First: GGG fix the lag spikes. That's it.

    • Second: MAYBE it could be overtuned but I don't think it's harder than it was in the Betrayal league tough. Of course, with lag spikes everything is overtuned.

    • Third: A lot of people say the rewards are shitty in comparison with the difficulty, I say "I dont care". Some things are not about rewards. Maybe surviving is a reward in itself. The game has plenty of different rewards right now. Betrayal is like a little break for crazy overpowered mapping, you take care and maybe even run or things get ugly. I like it.

Again, thanks for the people that agree and disagree, this is democracy. All we need is respect AND A HARDCORE GAME! C'mon guys, take a joke..

Synthesis feedback - Having 10 memory fragments maximum is painful and tedious

Unpolular opinion: Syndicate going core was a mistake.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2019 10:18 PM PDT

No loot, hard as fuck encounters, confusing board of crap and a complete lag fest. Why was this implemented? Betrayal was fine when I could completely ignore this mechanic, but now it's an overtuned no loot giving piece of shit. Excuse my language, but damn GGG you had 3 months to nerf the encounters and you still haven't done so. Is this what you really want in the game? Can we get some clarification on whether this is staying the way it is?

    Insanely lucky Synthesis boss ring

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 06:30 AM PDT

Betrayal and Synthesis have made me appreciate how well done Abyss and Incursion were as concepts.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2019 11:41 PM PDT

Yep abyss had its issues at the start with the whirley boys / the spitters / RNG but goddamn if I wasn't HYPED when I got one of the depths. Those uniques / belts / jewels were amazing rewards too. Felt so great to drop 2 abyss socket tombfists.

Incursion introduced some complexity but it was not too obscure or difficult to get to and the rewards from Omnitech were insane, double corruption / map rooms were sick too.

The last 2 leagues feel complicated as hell for nowhere near the reward or effort tbh.

Synthesis Week 1: What We're Working On

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 01:52 PM PDT

Delve Cities no longer give exp

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 06:02 AM PDT

EDIT: GGG is aware of the issue, it is unintended and will be fixed.

So with the removal of darkness farming apparently delve cities also don't give experience anymore, which feels rather terrible. Since you couldn't repeatedly farm these anyway unlike flare farming, this seems rather harsh, was this intended?

Despite all the percieved issues with Synthesis, let's take a moment to appreciate the fact doors in memory fragments open automatically.

    Expectation VS Reality

    Posted: 10 Mar 2019 10:41 PM PDT

As a lore fan, this is my favorite league mechanic of all time.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2019 08:12 AM PDT

Drop the Betrayal implementation hate for just a moment (if possible) and look at what we've been given with Synthesis.

We get little snippets from major events in the world's history. The Karui Rebellion (the Karui boy on the gallows memory), The Night of a Thousand Ribbons, quotes from who I assume is Victario, an Ezomyte ritual, and even a literal front row seat to some of the events surrounding the Atlas.

Not only am I simply geeking the fuck out in general but this (memories specifically, not Synthesized items) is an easily expandable mechanic allowing for more events to see/hear about. Imagine if every piece of lore in the campaign opened a memory related to it. Memories opening on a boss kill to give insight as to who/what the boss was. Memories relating to masters (we already have what I presume is Niko), we could even get memories of Einhar!

Yes, the implementation of Synthesis isn't perfect and will need tweaking. Betrayal's footprint on everyone's mind is massive. No argument there. But take a moment and see that we also have some awesome stuff to mess with right now.

Syndicate is actually MUCH worse for HC players this league

    Posted: 10 Mar 2019 06:34 PM PDT

They just come out of nowhere, and hit like trucks. You can't skip them anymore, all you can do is hope to spot it before it bodies you and then start a new map.

They are still MASSIVELY over tuned, and hit harder than anything else at the map/monster level by a long long way.

WHY IS THIS CORE?? Please give us a way to skip it as content or sort out the way it effects the game, when they hit 2-3x harder than the map boss and literally come out of nowhere there is some thing very very wrong with the integration.
