    Minor/Miscellaneous Announcements

    The Legion League

    • Areas will contain monoliths that spawn frozen armies from Wraeclast's past when touched. Players have a short time to awaken these enemies by dealing damage to them. When the timer expires, all awakened enemies will unfreeze and fight you (and each other). Killing these enemies can grant unique rewards, in addition to regular item drops.

    • There are five different legions that can spawn: Maraketh, Karui, Templars, Vaal, and Eternal Empire.

    • Some legion enemies will have guaranteed drops, and display icons over their heads to indicate this.

    • Legion enemies can drop splinters, much like breach enemies. Fifty of the same legion splinter can be combined to form an emblem.

    • Using two or more different emblems in the map device opens portals to the Domain of Timeless Conflict, an endgame encounter with exclusive bosses and rewards. You can even obtain an upgraded map device to use all five emblems at once. It's currently unknown whether doing so unlocks another tier of exclusive rewards, but it seems like a safe assumption.

    • Legion enemies can also drop a new item type called incubators. See the Incubators section below for more details.

    Updated Game Mechanics

    • Skill animations can now be cancelled before or after damage is dealt by moving or using another skill. This includes cancelling out of multi-hit attacks like Double Strike.

    • Skills can now be queued.

    • Dead enemies no longer continue to be targeted by namelocking until you release the skill. Holding down the skill will cause attacks targeting the enemy to automatically cancel and your character to lock onto to the next target you mouse over.

    • Namelocking is less precise. You will still namelock if you slightly misplace the cursor.

    • Holding down a skill and then moving the cursor over an enemy will now target that enemy (but not namelock onto them).

    • Wind-up time on movement skills removed. All movement skills now begin moving the character instantly. Spamming a movement skill will still cause a small animation to play between them, as on live (i.e. this won't buff travel speed with movement skills, only dodging).

    • Pathfinding and targeting have been made more consistent, preventing cases of repeatedly casting into a wall and some cases of getting stuck on collision.

    • Attacks can now have attack time multipliers, which slow down or speed up the attack's animation (and therefore also modify attack speed).

    • Skill ranges, hitboxes and damage timing have been made more consistent and clear.

    • "Single target" melee skills now hit multiple enemies in range of the swing. Weapon range scales this range.

    • Melee skills now have a longer base stun duration and cause stuns more easily. Spells have a shorter base stun duration. Physical damage (from attacks or spells) causes stuns more easily than elemental/chaos damage.

    • Chance to hit is no longer capped at 95%. Accuracy has been made more available and monster evasion reduced, so that 100% hit chance is feasible.

    • Older enemies that don't clearly telegraph their skills have been updated to do so, allowing more opportunity to dodge them. They also hit harder though.

    • More enemies have been given block chance. Monsters blocking will not completely prevent damage, but reduce the damage by a percentage. Player block mechanics have not been changed.

    • Some changes to bleed and poison are coming.

    • Baeclast's interview with Jonathan goes much more in-depth on all of these changes. If you don't want to listen to the whole thing, Ryant12 has written a summary here.

    New Skill & Support Gems

    Reworked/Updated Skill & Support Gems

Every melee skill has apparently received some updates (flat damage, attack time multiplier, numbers tweaks, etc). If your favourite skill isn't listed here yet, stay tuned.

    Passive Tree Changes

    • Reworks coming for many melee ascendancy classes. No details yet.

    • Necromantic Aegis potentially (re)moved? (N.B. — the image from the minisite may not be an accurate preview of the actual 3.7 tree.)

    • This Glorious Vanity teaser also shows the nodes after MoM being removed (or maybe it's a different keystone altogether) and a new cluster above it.

New & Reworked Unique Items (9/27?)

N.B. — 15 reworked uniques in this patch are being removed from regular drop tables and will now be Legion drops. I haven't been able to confirm with GGG whether or not there are reworked uniques in this patch other than these 15.

    These Crazy New Unique Jewels

Here's what they look like, and here's everything we know about how they work:

    New Divination Cards (9/14)

    Incubators

Incubators are a new consumable item type that can be used to guarantee specific drops. An incubator must be used on a piece of equipment, which will then begin to track the number of enemies you have killed while using it. Once the required number of enemies have been killed, the specified item will drop. It can be assumed that each piece of equipment can only be incubating a single item at any one time. Kills are shared in parties.

    Currently known incubator types:

[MEME] New Divination Card in Path of Exile: Legion

PSA: the expected value of your damage being 'Lucky'

    Posted: 27 May 2019 08:02 AM PDT

I've seen quite some misinformation already floating around the subreddit about how much damage being Lucky adds.

TL;DR: it depends on your damage range. The effective more damage multiplier of the damage range lo to hi is (2*lo + 4*hi)/(3*lo + 3*hi). As an example, a level 20 Spark with no other damage modifier has a damage range of 63 to 1198. In this scenario the damage multiplier would be (2*63 + 4*1198)/(3*63 + 3*1198) = 1.300 so 30.0% more damage compared to not being lucky. That's almost ideal - your damage increase will vary between 0% and 33.33% more damage depending on how wide your damage range is.

Derivation. Lucky makes your damage roll twice and choosing the better roll.

Normally a damage roll can be seen as choosing a uniform random number in [0, 1], and then scaling that uniform random number in our range [lo, hi]. This is done with the formula lo + (hi - lo)*r where r is the random variable. As a sanity check, r = 0 gives lo and r = 1 gives hi.

Now the expected value of one random roll is 1/2 (quite obviously), but the expected value of max(x, y) where x and y are two independent random rolls is 2/3. This isn't obvious, but you can prove it with probability distributions and integrating them. This is quite involved though.

An easier proof IMO though is by recognizing that you can simulate this maximum selection k*k times, splitting up the range of [0, 1] into k evenly spaced steps for both x and y (which we can do since x and y are uniformly distributed) and check all combinations of x and y and average their outcomes. As you increase k to infinity you actually end up with a double integral which we can solve: https://i.imgur.com/WQBiAYG.png.

So our expected value without lucky is lo + (hi - lo)*(1/2), and with lucky it is lo + (hi - lo)*(2/3). Divide the two and simplify and you'll get (2*lo + 4*hi)/(3*lo + 3*hi) as your damage multiplier.

PSA: you can price full tabs with decimals to differentiate them

    Posted: 27 May 2019 10:08 AM PDT

E.G. if you have two tabs at 5 chaos, you can price one at 5.001 and the other at 5.002. The price difference won't be shown to the consumer.

Also, if you want to be a jerk about it, you can price them at 4.991 and 4.992. It'll still show 5 chaos on the trade site, but it'll put your item first if multiple people are posting at the same price.

Edit: With deep decimals, the display to the buyer on the tradesites rounds correctly (i.e. 5.001 will be 5). But the whisper will always round up to a half. (So a 5.001 chaos will whisper the price at 5.5 chaos).

I'm now realizing why I though I was buying things at a whole price then noticed later I whispered with an extra .5.

So it you're trying to be a non-jerk ethical human (I know, good joke right?) use windows149 suggestion and add a letter instead (like 5.a and 5.b).

Chris Wilson Baeclast 1st of June WTB Questions

    Posted: 26 May 2019 02:45 PM PDT

Chris Wilson has very kindly offered us his time and will be joining us for a live Baeclast on Saturday the 1st of June @ twitch.tv/tarkecat

The time isn't 100% locked in but expect it to be within an hour either side of 8pm NZ, 9am UK, 4am EST. Sorry Freedom bros.

If you have any question regarding Legion or 3.7 leave them below and we will add the best ones to the topic list.

Once we have a first draft ready I will share the topic list via a YouTube update and I'll post a countdown timer once we lock in a start time for the episode.

As always the podcast will then be made available on my youtube if you can't catch it live. Also if you are not yet aware we post short 10 to 20min Episode highlight vids over at Raiz's Youtube channel for people who don't have time to watch a full 1-2 hour episode.

Templar is left handed, with new melee changes this can make a difference in play style.

    Posted: 27 May 2019 12:15 PM PDT

With the way the new melee changes allow you to hit multiple enemies, being left or right handed will change how you want to line up enemies and attack them.

    Oh? You're Approaching Me?

Y'all folks judging the new jewels solely on the keystones are forgetting something.

    Posted: 26 May 2019 10:29 PM PDT

Although the keystones have been the centerpieces of Bex's teasing, the main point of the historic jewels as far as I can tell is to convert a large section of the tree into a bunch of stats of your choosing.

Now, this isn't exactly free power, as you have to spend skill points to get it, but being able to allocate a bunch of armor, life, crit or whatever other stats the jewels will be centered around in parts of the tree where those stats aren't normally available (or at least not available to the extent that the jewels allow for), might be gamechanging.

Looking at the jewels solely as 'keystone providers' probably isn't the best way to judge their worth.
