How long to get to level 100 on the Twilight Strand? (TL:DR at the end)

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:42 AM PST

Getting to level 100 in the twilight strand - A study by - A bored nerd waiting on 3.9

EDIT: The most common misunderstanding - XP can only be reduced by 99% meaning Hillock always gives 6 XP.

I was curious about how many hours it'd take to get to level 100 grinding the twilight strand and so I did some complex napkin math to figure it out. Here is my findings.

    In the Twilight Stand there are 3 enemies-Sand Spitter {Crabs} - They give 20 xp-Drowned {Zombies} - They give 18 xp-Hillock - He gives 625 xp

Level 1-7 takes 2.5 to 3 hours. For this study were going with 3 hours.Level 7 - 10 takes roughly 3-5 additional hours. I'm calling this 5 hours.Levels 10 - 13 Take an additional 7 hours.Level 12 is an important level because its the last level you gain xp from killing the trash mobs in the Strand.

Starting at level 13 Hillock is the only mob that gives xp on the strand and he gives 1% of his xp which is 6xp a kill. I also don't account for any UBER-Hillock encounters because 1: I don't know if he gives bonus xp and 2: if it does give xp, its so rare that it might move the count forward .1% which doesn't change much.

To go from level 13 to 25 requires 1,985,268 xpWe than divide that by 6 to get total Hillock kills needed. Which is 330,878.

Each run of the twilight strand takes 1min 50 seconds or 110 seconds. I get this number by assuming you have Oni-Goroshi and can kill Hillock in 20 seconds, and then the Twilight Strand needs 1 min 30 or 90 seconds to reset.I am going to refer to Hillock Kills as H from now on.

Now we do 330,878 H times 110 to get total seconds which is 36,396,580 secondsDivide 36,393,580 seconds by 60 to get minutes = 606,609.66 minutesDivide 606,609.66 minutes by 60 to get hours = 10110.1611Finally divide 10110.1611 by 24 to get days 421.2567 days.

So Level 25 already takes more than 1 Year of killing Hillock non-stop. But this is a study to find out how long to get to level 100?

To go from Level 25 to Level 100 takes 4,248,191,792 xpWe divide 4,248,191,792 xp by 6 to get H = 708,031,965.33 Kills.708,031,965 multiplied by 110 seconds gives us 77,883,516,186.66 Seconds of play time77,883,516,186.66 divided by 60 to get minutes = 1,298,058,603.11 minutes1,298,058,603.11 divided by 60 to get hours = 21,634,310.0518 hours21,634,310.0518 divided by 24 to get days = 901,429.585 days901,429.585 days divided by 365.25 (keeping track of leap years) to get total years = 2467.97 Years. Now we add 15 hours + 421.2567 days + 2467.97 years to make level 1-100 take = 2469.1233 Years

You have to kill Hillock for more time than its been since year 1.

Assuming the average human lifespan is 79 years that is 31.25 Lifespans to archive this.

TL:DR - It takes 2469 years of non-stop killing Hillock to get to level 100. I look forward to seeing someone attempt a speedrun of this.

    EDIT: lifespans not generations

Steam Autumn Sale just started and you can nominate Path of Exile for Labor of Love award

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 10:50 AM PST

Labor of Love is an award that stands for "This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the first unveiling of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years."
With 3.9 and PoE 2 announcements it deserves this award even more than in 2017 and 2018 (last time it was nominated in this category). Lets help PoE win this year!

GGG should test supporter pack overlap

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:35 AM PST

I've been a supporter of PoE for almost 8 years now. One thing that always bothered me when they started doing league supporter packs is that there is no overlap. While I understand I'm sure there's a reason for it. I think it's well worth their time to have some overlap. Even if it's simply one day.

Far too often am I in a situation like I am now where I want to buy another supporter pack. I like one of the supporter packs but because the new ones should be here soon, I'm waiting until they release. The problem arises if the new supporter packs are less appealing and I end up buying nothing. If there was an overlap I could just buy the old supporter pack in this situation.

I think it's at least worth a test for GGG to have some kind of overlap. What do you think?

I'm looking forward to any unique item reworks more than the bow skill overhaul.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 11:25 AM PST

With the exception of Explosive Arrow, I hope they keep its identity but give it a lot of help after being in EH's shadow. I'm super hyped to see what they do with it.

Bow skills are already in a good spot right now so I'm not expecting any major changes that will change how I look at the game.

There is a massive list of unique items that used to be good, had their place in the game removed, or had their theme completely striped away from them due to other broken mechanics. (Looking at you double dipping and snap shotting.)

I always get super hyped when they rework an older unique that has just hasn't aged well with time. Like finding your old skateboard your closet and putting new wheels on it. It was always there but just needed a little TLC.

A moderate list of items that I feel deserve a rework because they no longer have a place or lost their identity. It's not just that these items are under powered but they've lost their original purpose.

Conversion items: I'm lumping all of them in here including Voltaxic we already know they're not addressing it this patch but might in the future. None of them are used because there's 0 point anymore with all the penetration and reflect removal.

Emberwake: It was used for skills that were multi hit like firestorm/incinerate that hit a lot. Now multi hit fire skills just use elemental focus and ignore ignite completely.

Grand Spectrums: Not really grand anymore. Limited to 3 they're just budget options for rare jewels. They were nerfed because of the viridian jewel and Double dipping. I'd like to see the elemental damage replaced on the viridian with evasion.

Martial Artistry: it was never updated after the aoe rework. It's effectively 1-1.5 aoe nodes instead of 2-3 old nodes that were actually good.

Spell block items: All of them were based off of only having 20-30% block. Making investing into block feel terrible.

Static electricity: Abyss jewels, it's literally a 1-2 prop abyss jewel

Choir of the storm: Just change the mod to 75% crit chance and it would be the same item. Removing the scaling on the item felt really bad.

Doriyani's invitation: The only unique thing about them is the 0.2% leech.

Vis Mortis: Yes, delve chests were a rare upgrade to this but now there's almost 0 reason to use it.

Crown of eyes: When this item was nerfed there were very few more multipliers in the game. Now that they're a dime a dozen I don't see why we can't have Low Life attack builds again.

Rise of the Phoenix: It's only 1 more max fire resist over saffels so it's almost never worth using over it. Now that all elemental resists are capped at 90% I don't see a problem with 8%.

The Harvest: The cool down on it is way too high and only affecting 1 flask at a time means it's just a dead item.

Reach of the Counsil: Greater volley isn't the same as having +4 arrows and it also limits builds who don't want volley. Death's opus is just better now.

Death's Hand: With stat sticks gone it serves no purpose.

What are some items you want to be reworked? What are some of those items that bring back fond memories of builds that no longer work?

Alt-click could take the top item of a stack.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 12:48 PM PST

Shift-click+enter+move mouse to inventory and release is very awkward. It's annoying to have to take so many extra clicks to pull Resonators and Fossils from stash, for example. Oils, currency, etc are always fiddly. So, you could make alt-click simply attempt to move one item from a stack between stash and inventory, just like ctrl-click moves a whole stack at once.

Shouldn't Fire Damage over Time Multiplier be able to roll on bows too?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:20 AM PST

With the bow rework coming, shouldn't this mod be rollable or at least craftable up to 40% on bows? Explosive Arrow builds usually revolve around burning damage. We have Burning Arrow as well.

    So, should it not?

This is why I like cartography scarabs

    Thank you guys

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:59 AM PST

I've played POE on and off ever since breach league, and during that time I never really got super involved in the community. But watching the exile con stream live made me realize that everyone at GGG is a big nerd just like me and everyone else who adores this game. This made me realize why Path of Exile is such an outstanding game because it truly is "by gamers, for gamers" and I can't believe how lucky we are as consumers to be in such good hands. I may have to fake my own death when 4.0 drops so I can escape all responsibility and play it non-stop.

Fragments, scarabs, offerings, divine vessels should all be stackable

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 06:08 PM PST

When fossils and resonators became stackable, you could stack them without the need for a Delve tab (and above 20/20 in your currency tab). It makes sense for fragments, etc. to be stackable too because they are stackable in the fragment tab.

This is coming from someone who already owns the fragment tab too.

Blah, blah, I'm an entitled redditor, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

A short F2P rant from when I first started the game. (GGG is cool)

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:26 PM PST

I just wanted to say thanks to GGG for kicking me right in the face for thinking free to play is the devil. Im still on the boat that 90% of the games that are f2p are straight up phone, energy, crystals, premium currency garbage. But holy hell did this game surprise me. I was like how do they make money then I gotta take out a small bank loan for wings but hey if my random mystery box purchases and the whales supporter pack armour gods keep the company afloat and people are happy working there then yea this is truly a win win
