So, why the bait and switch on synthesis/nexus mechanics, anyway?

    Posted: 21 Mar 2019 09:20 AM PDT

I've been wondering about this. Back when the trailer for synthesis was released, it showed individual memory fragments adding global reward modifiers to our memory chains, the kind we now get from memory modifier nodes.

So... why was this changed? The trailer system seems much more pleasant than what we wound up getting. It seems simpler, less tedious, and more satisfying in general. You simply build up memory chains to reach distant memories which would contain whatever bosses or reward chests, and you get better rewards for making longer chains to get there.

Instead, we get this mess, where in order to get those 'global' modifiers we have to spend several maps worth of memories just to add one or two modifiers at a time, and only if the path is still intact once we get there, and the only way to get any areas with a decent amount of modifiers built up is to leave a cluster of un-run placed memories alone while you trudge around picking up modifier nodes to bolster them.

So why the change? What was wrong with the trailer's system? I could actually enjoy the nexus if that was the system we got, it'd be more rewarding and less of the clusterfuck/eyesore/height-of-tedium it currently is.

Synthesis goes out of its way to punish players at every turn.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2019 10:01 PM PDT

    I'm just so exasperated.

    1. Micromanage your memories. Gotta make sure you get the right one with correct connections.

    2. Hope you get lucky with the right memory quick, because you can only have 10 memories. Time to micromanage and delete memories.

    3. Plan a path to your target modifier / reward. Remember to micromanage the number of charges on your path! Hopefully you haven't hit the memory cap, if not you're going to have to delete memories.

    4. Reach your target and hope you don't get fucked over by decay RNG. (Why is there even decay in the nexus? It just seems to punish players for no reason) If that happens, I hope you enjoy wasting your time.

    5. You got to your target! Click the memory or chests. Hopefully you haven't maxed out on your memory modifiers.

    6. Do not click the stabilizer by mistake. If that happens, I hope you enjoy totally destroying your planned multi step run and having to logout. (No idea why GGG implemented this change)

    7. Pray that a random memory doesn't just spawn and destroy all your work.

    8. Enjoy your lackluster drops.

Hopefully in the above process your client didn't disconnect / crash.

If you port out, pray that you port back into the same node. (Supposedly fixed now)

I couldn't port out last night. Clicking on the nexus did nothing. The portal refused to open.

Finally, you get your fractured item drops. Gotta read reddit and refer to gigantic list on poedb for possible crafts to minimize your chances of getting garbage.

I'm by no means a great player, but I've been playing since 2014 and definitely have close to 10k hours in the game. This is by far the most buggy and obtuse league mechanic that GGG has ever introduced.

Edit: Why not just remove the memory stabilizer from reward nodes altogether. You click your loot chests then continue running around till you get swallowed by decay and get spit back out at the entrance with all your loot. (like every other zone) You get to keep all your loot and you don't lose progress, win-win.

    Remove decay from the Nexus.

    Posted: 21 Mar 2019 08:29 AM PDT

This league mechanic is lackluster, but it could be amazing. All you have to do is remove decay from the nexus. Make decay the main mechanic for retrieving memories, since thematically that actually makes sense, but having them in the nexus just makes going for reward zones less fun and less rewarding.

I have to quit PoE because it is too addictive for me

    Posted: 20 Mar 2019 11:08 PM PDT

Over the last couple of weeks I've come to realize that I am not able to play PoE responsibly. As a full time working father of two I have spent 1600 hours since November 2016. Which might not sound a lot to some of you, but consider a full time (50 hrs/week) job, a wife, two children, a house renovation, the move to a new house, holidays and the fact that I do not play when my kids are awake. With an average of 1,88 hours per day, this leaves hardly any time for a lot of other things.

I watch and read poe related things on my way to work, on my way home, during my lunch break. I think about builds and the tree and items and crafting and ascendancies and how I can make the most of the items I have most of the time I should actually be doing something else. I have even been sick because of PoE because I literally played cyclone for a whole day straight and my eyes kept seeing the cyclone after I shut down the computer. And there's something new every day. And then there's new leagues and new guides and new stuff and it always keeps getting bigger and if I don't follow I feel like I miss something and fall behind after I just learned what feels like the basics after 2 and a half years. And I spent about 500 dollars on supporter packs. Help!

I've come to realize that I am - and I don't mean this in a positive way - a PoE junkie.

So I'm trying to quit. Haven't logged in for almost a week. Quit youtube and twitch subscriptions, deleted bookmarks.

Nobody in the community knows me. I have no "friends" in PoE, only play by myself. Yet I want to say thank you for the nicest community I have been somewhat part of for the last 2 and a half years.

Maybe I come back some day. When I learned to do things more responsibly.

Popular opinion: Multi-phase bosses with immunity phases don't belong in maps

    Posted: 20 Mar 2019 06:22 PM PDT

Looking at you, Core, Lava Lake, Basilica, etc.

Those bosses are great for the story mode but don't belong in repetitive content like maps.

I can do an entire t15 Waste Pool map INCLUDING the boss in less time than I could do JUST the t11 Basilica boss.

Summoner PSA: In Synthesis, it is possible to get lvl 86 Spectres. By placing a level 83 memory in a +3 yellow bonus zone in the Memory Void, you get a lvl 86 zone. Lvl 86 Spectres have 15% more DPS than lvl 84 ones.

    Let us erase reward nodes

    Posted: 21 Mar 2019 05:00 AM PDT

Reward nodes have been bugged and spawn in nexus-locking positions as well as closed loops. They can mess up a planned run by spawning while you run, making you unable to follow the memories you have already planned out.

Please let us destroy reward nodes, GGG.

    That's a huge Pog

    Posted: 21 Mar 2019 12:48 AM PDT

Who the hell thought that locking you to the reward platform if you click a Stabilizer in the Nexus was a good idea?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2019 08:58 PM PDT

I seriously don't understand why this was done. Can anyone explain?

It seems to serve no purpose and is nothing but an inconvenience and a sort of "noob trap" (bad option with no positive outcome).

100% of the time it's better just to dive into the blue crap after you finish collecting your reward, and then click the Stabilizer on the starting point instead so that you can carry on with your Nexus route.

Now I'm obviously not trying to click it but 2 or 3 times now I've misclicked it essentially bricking my entire run (in one case I was like 15 tiles deep with a bunch of decayed ones behind me).

This is maddening. I could understand if there was some sort of inherent upside, or if you couldn't just dive into the blue to get sent back to the entrance, but this current design just makes zero sense.

Why wasn't this instantly hotfixed back to the original mechanic?

Or perhaps I'm overreacting; can anyone give a good, positive reason for this change as I fail to think of one.

    Every. Single. League

I am still lacking many crafting mods so having to choose between unveiling mods that won't help progress in any way is very annoying.

[Guide] Which fractured items to keep

    Posted: 21 Mar 2019 12:00 AM PDT

Adjust your filter and enjoy the league. And please comment with other items that are worth to keep or exclude.

    Top ES bases

With any mod. With any item level.

    • Hubris Circlet
    • Vaal Regalia
    • Sorcerer Boots
    • Sorcerer Gloves
    • Titanium Spirit Shield

    ilvl 82+ rings and amulets

With any mod of any tier. Rings are generally more valuable than amulets, especially if the fractured mod is prefix.

    3 fractured mods

    Any item level, any mods.

    ilvl86 items

Even if the fractured mod is bad.

    Jewels

    • Jewels with generally good mods (life, es, crit mult, damage, all res ...)
    • High ilvl abyss jewels

If you do not know which mods are good - keep all jewels, since they do not occupy much inventory space.

    Items to exclude

    • Most belts. However good bases (Leather Belt, Crystal Belt, Stygian) with T1-T2 life or multiple T1-T2 resists will be not cheap after GGG enables fossils and essences.
    • All two-handed weapons, except bows and staves.

    Tier 1 mods

The majority Tier 1 mods are worth to keep. If an item has two fractured mods - its value is generally significantly higher even if the second mod is bad.

1.5 aps bows with two 2 fractured mods

    • Short Bow
    • Grove Bow
    • Thicket Bow

2 fractured mod weapons with T2-T3 spell damage

As well as "non-ailment chaos multiplier" and "cold damage over time multiplier".
