[Guide]Tricksters/Occultists stop paying outrageous prices for Chaos Multiplier Wands

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 07:37 AM PDT

So I'm making this post because I've had a couple friends now state that they wanted to do bossing on their Chaos DoT starters this league only to be gated by boss dps. Each one of them though was missing out on a really easy source of essentially free damage and that was synthesized weapons with the "Non-Ailment Chaos Damage Over Time" Implicit (I'll be calling it chaos multi for this post). When I asked why they were every single one of them quoted that the price for the bases were just too high. So I hopped over to poetrade to see if that was the case and was astounded that I was seeing these wands going for 75c+ when on SSF I've made 5-6 at this point by essentially cleaning the lint out of my pockets. I had recorded a decent length video on how to do this visually, but I realized I'm awful at OBS and realized nobody could see anything so I just opted to write this instead.

So how do you start, well you only need a few ingredients the first is obvious, some fractured wands. Now you might be going "But fractured bases with chaos multi as the fractured are going for 17-20c. All you will need is any 3 fractured wands with a decent item level it doesn't matter if they have 1 mod, 2 mod, 1-3 fire damage to attacks, or even a full 6 affixs on it, all you need is 3 fractured wand. Wands like this are going for typically 2 alchs, a far cry from the 20c x 3 we were going to pay otherwise.

Next up we're going to scour those suckers, and for the 1 mod wands we're promptly going to regal them to 2 mod rares. After this is the most important step of all this, we're going to craft on all 3 bases the rank 2 Chaos Multi craft which is a 2 alch craft. The reason for this is how the implicit crafting works is items need to "break" a cap to reach to the next tier of possible implicit, chaos multi has 3 tiers, the first tier is a 9-10% implicit which comes from literally any amount of chaos multi across the 3 wands, the next breakpoint is a 11-12% implicit and is at 45% chaos multi across 3 wands, the final one is 13-15 but frankly that one is unrealistic as it requires 90 chaos multi across 3 wands which you can't craft and requires a t2 roll or better on all 3 wands which is something like a 1/250 mod. This is why we're just going to do this craft as it's cheap and easy and only a 3% difference

Finally we go to the blender (synthesizer) and ask will it blend? I'm not completely sure on the math as there are definitely some factors I'm not thinking of but with this method and all 3 wands being the worst of worst 1 fractured mod meaning it will only have one implicit you have roughly a 33% chance to get Chaos multi as the implicit to then hopefully further craft into wherever your dreams take you. If we're to assume it takes you 3 attempts to get one wand after converting all the currencies it will cost you roughly 25.5 chaos on average to make just one base, a long shot from the 75c you would've payed otherwise.

Credit for this shouldn't go to me, I learned this in Raizqt's stream something like 2 weeks ago at this point I just have typed this up so many times now for various friends and other streamers channels who I was in I figured I would post this miniature guide on the topic and crash the market since chaos dots is a popular build especially now that mathil did a build on it. It should be noted that synthesis crafting is a lot easier then people give it credit for and you can frankly use this method with just a bit more complexity if you do it for other basic mods. It's only things like onslaught on boots that are difficult to figure out.

    -Cheers all.

edit: As every 2nd comment is basically "lol I have 120% chaos multi already and spell damage better for me personally" I'll state what I've been replying in comments, it depends on your personal gear and tree but honestly if you aren't at the stage of optimization yet where you're measuring your upgrades in exalts instead of chaos, this will almost always be an upgrade of 10-30k dot dps. Which is just what you need when you're going into the endgame.

edit 2: So I wanted to post something /u/skaugust pointed out that want a bit more oompf out of this then the basic bitch wands I pointed out (I'm awful at crafting and it really is raiz that's the only reason I even knew of this initial post)

"Though as I'm writing this out, I'm realizing you can get a 2 fractured mod wand for 1c with spell damage as one of the fractured mods. You spend 3x scours, and you spend 4c+2alch+2alch crafting >45% chaos multi, that's still only ~10c per synth. Even though we're just targeting T4 synthed spell damage (16-18%), we'd still get definitely a better base than opal wand if we hit that and T2 synthed chaos multi. If you managed to match the 2nd fractured mod, you're now only looking at 3 different fractured mods, hitting the right 2 is 1/3. If you had 3 different fractured mods other than spell damage, hitting the right 2 is 2/5*1/4=1/10. Since the mats only cost 10c, this is 30c-100c to get an amazing wand base. Very affordable right now if you're going to spend 3ex I'm assuming above."

My play time per session has gone down significantly as content has dispersed into different areas. It feels impossible to set a goal and stick to it in a way that feels natural.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 12:16 AM PDT

TLDR: Chris pls give me back my flow-state.

I play this game for the relaxing properties (plus the gambling high of course), and recently I've been playing for an hour or so, opening up my atlas, delve chart, then syndicate map, and end up exiting the game in favor of something a bit more "focused".

I really want to be able to set objectives within the game and be able to reach them without a ton of other content getting in the way. A few examples: Temple is ready to open, Syndicate Wing ready to run, Delve Fuel is maxed out, you have TEN memories now.

The mindset seems to be: use them or lose them. And I can't imagine being a player who didn't participate in these leagues and being thrown at all of them at once.

I know this has been suggested before, but I want to re-iterate that I'd love to be able to focus on a single (or a few) objectives at a time. For example:

    • Atlas completion + building a map pool early in the league.
    • Incursion if I want to push a double corrupt or just a general rewarding experience with maps/currency drops.
    • Delve if I want to mindlessly run through tunnels, kill monsters, and collect loot.
    • Invasion if I want to add quality to an item, add a mod to an item, or upgrade a breachstone, etc.

There's so much great content in PoE right now. But it all feels so disconnected now that I can't quite reach a point of flow-state.

Here's a suggestion since I've only been complaining: When an atlas objective is completed. It should immediately re-appear with a 50% chance of going to the next tier (if you have a map unlocked in that tier). Maybe once per day let us "reset" the map through the master just in-case we don't have one at hand. Also if 3-5 maps have been run, relocate the master mission (with a 50% chance of it going to the tier below). This means that if someone focuses on an objective it should stay within those tiers. And if they let it sit for a while it will take a bit of time to ramp up again as the objectives reach lower and lower tiers.

Clearly this would need some balancing in terms of people focusing on one thing and making a stupid amount of currency, but I think it would help a lot in terms of playing the game and getting "stuck" in that feeling of progressing your character.

    Thanks GGG for 3.6.3

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 07:35 AM PDT

The new system is clearer, allows for more control, and is simply more fun.

    What I see so far:

    • Keep clearing a decaying memory and have the safety of a portal open up once I get to the mod/reward area without having to click on anything

    • The portals back to the Nexus seem less buggy

    • More fractured items drop

    • More maps drop

    • I can keep "pathing" from the memory entrance once I finish a decaying memory

    • Being able to reuse memories (though you do lose mods)

    • Less corner pieces

Datamined unused Slayer ascendancy art for Synthesis

    Posted: 27 Mar 2019 05:17 PM PDT

[ARPG Showerthought] People spent years giving D3 shit because it had no content. But now we're giving PoE shit for having TOO MUCH content.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:28 AM PDT

Obligatory not really a showerthought, I'm actually at work, but regardless.

We've seen people rag on D3 for so long for having no content at all once you get to endgame, which is true, since Blizzard basically abandoned the game by now.

But now the recurring theme on this sub during this league is that there's so much to do. Between Incursion Temples, Delves, Betrayal Safehouses and now Synthesis Nexus memories, there's always so much to do that most players are feeling choked out with all the content. And on top of all that, there's still the "core" endgame gameplay, which are Atlas maps, and a bunch of side content like Labyrinth and Guardians/Shaper/Elder.

I don't mean this in a bad way. I like having lots of content. But I guess I just realized that too much of a lot (PoE) can be as bad as nothing at all (D3). These are real issues that GGG will need to have addressed in the next couple of leagues, risking harming their player retention heavily.

EDIT: So much stuff that I even forgot about Bestiary lul

Finding Items in POE Has Never Been So Illuminating

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 10:16 AM PDT

Counter take - PoE has never been more engaging (to me)

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 12:02 PM PDT

I've been playing PoE since talisman and I've never had as much fun as I have the last three leagues. It comes as a surprise to me that so many players are spewing vitriol on reddit regarding all the league content and the added complexity, while simultaneously appreciating a game with so much depth (i.e., skill tree, gem links, using 3rd party tools like PoB and trade, etc).

Do you want to run an endless dungeon? You've got delve. Speaking of, you have two main ways to target delve if that is your thing - you can buy Niko spawns from players (T11-14 go from 10-20c each), or you can buy sulphite scarabs and run some high tier maps. That's not to mention the daily master mission that can spawn on the atlas as you run maps.

Prefer the old school map system? Ignore the new masters (you probably ignored forsaken outside of rotas in the past, anyways). Complete your atlas and enjoy your map sustain.

Sidenote: post fix, I'm making 1-3 red maps per map I put in. That's without any sextants or quant gear, aiming for 80% quantity on the map itself. I don't understand the people complaining about being unable to sustain.

Synthesis adds a new layer to crafting and some spicy RNG to go with it. You can make some truly remarkable items if you've got the currency and the patience to figure it out. Again - depth and complexity here, something I thought the majority of players appreciated in this game.

Alva and Einhar aren't really my favorite, but that's okay. Alva adds density to the maps she shows up in, and Einhar shakes up a map without having to invest a lot of time figuring out how to be optimal. Neither really hurts gameplay.

Finally - Jun. I love betrayal, but my computer can handle it. I can understand the frustration around intervention, so I won't sugar coat that bit. That absolutely is a problem and needs to be fixed.

Is the game perfect? Lol. No. Still, I love it.

One big piece of feedback for GGG - slow down on your patches / iteration cycle, or have two dev teams working on different patches so each gets the same amount of attention. Additionally, consider small betas to test functionality. Synthesis was an ungodly, confusing, unfun mess before the 3.6.3 patch. It's great now, but how many players did you lose to the poor execution?

Tl;dr - Just my opinion, I really like where GGG has taken PoE over the last year.

New masters are a great addition. None are mandatory (outside Jun, see below)

Synthesis was awful at the start, plays much better now.

Betrayal is fun but needs to be fixed. People should not be dying to game freezes. Possibly fix betrayal and Einhar to be more like old Tora den missions?

Slow down on content releases, or find a way to release them better. Consider alpha/beta tests (Tied to supporter packs?) to test league mechanics before going live.

I really hope that ES doesn't get gutted again and that armour and evasion get readjusted to make life more effective.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 10:59 AM PDT

A lot of people here seem to be saying that ES is much better than life simply due to how much ES you can get. However, I don't think this is the issue.

You can get a lot of ES because... well... that's all ES is. It's straight hit-points, nothing else. You take that much damage and you're dead. Meanwhile, what life is supposed to have is armour and evasion in order to mitigate damage in a different way and increase one's effective HP pool.

To me, the issue with ES isn't how much you can get, it's that armour and evasion can't increase EHP to any comparable point.

I think a good starting point would be to remove armour's physical-exclusive scaling and instead make it globally reduce the damage taken from hits. Whether you're being stabbed or shot with ice bolts, armour is still going to dampen a blow. Unsure what to do about evasion, but I'd say it feels better than armour already at this point [especially when intertwined with dodge].

[Suggestion] Stop the swiss cheesing of doorways.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 10:45 AM PDT

Enter memory, walk into door, decays beneath me, exit memory

    :(

Make decay avoid doorways until the surrounding terrain is destroyed. I don't have much of an option to not walk through doors and movement skills like lightning warp only work with line of sight to the other side, through a narrow door.

    Opinion as a New Player

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 10:26 AM PDT

So, there's a ton of posts here about how everyone's been getting bogged down with league mechanics, and this is from people who have been playing the game for multiple leagues and were able to learn the individual mechanics of those leagues before they went core. However, I haven't really seen any posts from newcomers like myself, and I wanted to throw my hat in the ring.

Honestly, it drains me trying to understand each and every mechanic and learn mapping while simultaneously learning delve and how to maximize my rewards and same with incursion and betrayal and etc. There's no short and concise introductions to the concepts that guide the player into the endgame and it's made me want to quit a couple times. It really feels like the game isn't meant for new players anymore.

After watching hours of youtube and reading guides online, I finally was able to reach like t9/t10 maps with the help of other players giving me advice on my build. I was enjoying some of the content, like Incursion, but it keeps feeling like the game just gates me out from doing any of the content I actually find fun. I have to pray to the gods that I get Alva to spawn 4 times and skip other mechanics, which just lowers my rewards and overwhelms me.

At this point, I've really taken a liking to Uber lab farming. It did take time to understand routing and what works best and etc, but it feels so good to be able to engage in content separate from all the other interconnected overcomplicated mechanics that takes up mapping and delving and temple and whatnot. All I have to do is spend like 1-4 chaos, get in, run lab, get rewards, and I'm out. I don't have to stop to go delve or go raid the syndicate or explore my nexus. I just spend a bit of chaos and I dont have to worry about anything other than killing Izaro. Having a good build allows me to make currency which allows me to get better gear which allows me to play faster and get more rewards. It's easy and rewarding and most importantly, separate. Why can't other mechanics be like this? A base investment and you can do the content you want.

I don't know how relevant my view is, but I hope my perspective helps older players see that new players are struggling just as much as they are. To GGG, please realize that making this game more and more overly complex and intertwined does not attract new players and does not lead to player retention. Thank you.

edit: honestly, y'all right. i still definitely feel overwhelmed at times with this game and i love it, i just need to chill. thanks 💜
