Scarabs as Map Boss drops rather than betrayal linked? Posted: 26 Apr 2019 09:03 AM PDT 3 tiers of scarabs, 3 overall tiers of maps (white, yellow, red). Red maps generally have phases and are often skipped. Chance at a scarab drop of the relevant tier would promote killing these bosses. Time spent for reward type of deal. Grants player agency over the content they want to do a bit more than in it's current form. I think I've gotten like 6 scarabs during this whole league and I have lvl 90, 91 and 94 characters. I would much prefer getting drip fed them than almost not getting them at all. The frag tab has space for them and it's barely being used meanwhile I have like 2-3 tabs worth of delve stuff : / Good or bad idea? [link] [comments]

Looking at top tier synthesised stuff makes me not even want to try it. Posted: 26 Apr 2019 05:33 AM PDT 1- We'll have to go to some website and look up a HUGE list of mods and values 2- Then we need to find an implicit i'd like to have, so i spent like 30 minutes alt tabbed from the game looking for mods. 3- We find what we want, now we have to do some math 4- Now we need to farm or buy items with the desired fractured mods and probably the highest tier roll 5- And now ethier invest at least 1 ex in currency(each annul is at 50c atm) to reduce the amount of mods on the 3 items, and then pray to get the implicit i wanted; OR just synthesise items right a way and pray even more. This is ofcourse on top of the currency already invested in the 3 items with the fractured mods. 6- Great, now we have a normal white item with a great implicit, after spending over 1 ex, to start crafting the item. If it's an armour or bow we'll also have to add quality, 6 socket and 6 link it. So add few more exalteds on top of the previous investment. So GGG understood people liked crafting, but they took it waaaaaay too far. Any casual player, or even someone that plays a lot but started playing a few leagues ago, will never try to do this not only because of how complicated it is, but because it's very expensive for someone that started playing in Delve for example. The nexus would've been fine without that synthesiser, now thanks to that we have people with absurdly good items, and anyone that wants to try to craft something to sell it and make good profit, has to go through all this stuff or else the item just won't be as valuable. So now we have a league where Scours are 1-1 with chaos, annuls are at 50c each, exalts are at 180c each and increasing, and a base, a normal white item, is worth 40+ exalteds (vaal regalia with double ES implicit for example). Whereas 2 leagues ago you'd buy an already crafted, linked, everything, top tier, shaper chest for less than that. If this mentality keeps on going then crafting will end up being for the elite players with an absurdly large knowledge of the game, which is sad because if GGG's idea is to always make players come back to the game every league, they'll end up failing to do that if every league players are forced add more websites we need to alt-tab to, and more complicated mechanics that makes obtaining a top tier item seem impossible. My post ends here------ I just want to add on a personal note that i'm not mad or anything like that, but as someone that has only a little over 1000 hours in the game, i was starting to understand crafting and how to profit out of it, and now synthesis ruined that for me. Posted: 26 Apr 2019 11:02 AM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnwyTEJ6FKE#t=34m5s If you don't feel like/can't watch right now, I think one quote is pretty important. They're talking about power creep, and how giving players more and more crafting options makes them stronger and stronger. He says "The power creep of those implicits isn't meaning that the average dude playing through the game is 10% more efficient. [...] We try where possible to make sure that the item power creep is kind of theoretical power creep." Basically, they're trying to give the 1% (or higher) something to chase while not really meaningfully increasing the strength of the average player. I guess this is why I'm not really that upset about not having Onslaught boots or anything like that, because I knew going into Synthesis that items like that were never really meant for "normal" players. And while I am sorta bummed that there're items in the game that're designed to never be seen by people like me, I kinda get where they're coming from. Power creep is a real concern and as much as we complain about Synthesis - and I'm not saying it's unreasonable to do so - we've also done our fair sure of complaining about power creep. If you were around for the Ascendancy launch, you definitely know what I mean. Idk, maybe everyone already is already aware of this, but I thought it was worth bringing attention to. Synthesis crafting seems to be working just as GGG intended, and Chris was pretty transparent about their intentions for Synthesis on Baeclast. And that's why, despite the fact that I love to complain about league mechanics, I'm not really complaining about this one. [link] [comments]
Kammell SSFHC Synthesis Class Reward Level 80 Race --- April 27th 12 pm PST Posted: 26 Apr 2019 11:11 AM PDT I'm doing this post mostly to say my original time and date countdown was wrong the race begins 1 hour later than that. I wasn't aware of a daylight savings issue. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2479471 If you want the time to go off it's in the league start page or you can go off this link: If you'd like to sign up: https://www.pathofexile.com/private-leagues/league/Kammell+Class+Reward+Race If you want to watch these are the people casting: Look out for casting by ZiggyD, Octavian and Brittleknee: https://www.twitch.tv/ziggydlive https://www.twitch.tv/octavian0 https://www.twitch.tv/brittleknee French casting by Yolonou: Sorry, once again, this is a pretty embarrassing mess up. Posted: 26 Apr 2019 12:12 PM PDT I'm reposting this in hopes of this change going through. Last time I posted this it was a bit too late. There is nothing wrong with Minion Instability's current damage. However, the explosion should be able to destroy destructible objects. I've enjoyed combining Earendel's Embrace and Minion Instability for the past few leagues. It just feel so weird see the my suicidal skellies explode and obliterate enemies yet unable to destroy barrels Please GGG, let Minion Instability destroy barrels! It's not like the barrels will go extinct. [link] [comments]
GGG still often has a Quantity over Quality mindset on design Posted: 25 Apr 2019 08:08 PM PDT I've seen several videos from ZiggyD over the years where he mentions GGG switching their mindset wrt new content away from absolute quantity of additions towards 'fewer, but more impactful' additions to the game (he's said this about new uniques, skills, etc.) I dunno about other things, but they absolutely don't seem to live by that wrt leagues. One of the major criticisms one can level at Synthesis is how dependent on data-mining it's been. You literally can't aim for anything in this league without first checking an external site for all the recipes. Incidentally, this was also one of the major flaws of Bestiary, at least until you've already unlocked all the recipes (so, if you were looking for beasts to buy). Chris has said before that he wants to leave the community to discover a lot of the cool new league content. But here's the thing - the community can't collate all the new shit in any reasonable time frame when there's literally hundreds of that new stuff for us to find. But there's also this related thing - the vast majority of that hundreds of new stuff is useless filler. The community could work out all it needed to know about Incursion without datamining, but not Synthesis - there was just way too much added for that. For instance, I'm gonna suggest here that Synthesis would've been considerably better received if, say, they'd just condensed all the pointless tiers of available implicits into just, say, 3 (one low, one mid, and one GG). No-one is impressed by an additional 6-8 Dexterity, but bump that lowest tier up to 10-20 Dexterity and it might be useful for someone. This doesn't solve all the league's issues, and it probably still doesn't cut down on the amount of recipes enough - for that I'd suggest also just ditching a lot of the most boring recipes, like the Dexterity example above. I'm not saying we should all just be able to make the GG gear they (misleadingly) advertised (like Onslaught boots, see Mathil's take on that here - https://clips.twitch.tv/BraveDrabPuffinNononoCat ), but rather that every tier of result should be able to make you feel...something. Rather than making you grumble about not being able to even imagine ever desiring that result, before tossing it at the vendor. Similarly with the masses of useless beastcrafts in Bestiary, or the pointlessly over-tiered Essences system. The strange thing is - this doesn't even seem to be a marketing decision. I've read the articles GGG puts up to promote the new leagues, and they don't really spend much time waxing eloquent about 'hundreds/thousands of new crafting recipes / new content'. At best, they say something like 'there's lots of stuff for players to sink their teeth into', but you can get away with the phrase 'lots of stuff' even if you just added, say, 50 crafting recipes. And 50 recipes wouldn't need data-mining as much. So it appears to me that this is just Chris and co. honestly thinking that mountains of new recipes is a better idea than fewer, but meaningful ones. Which goes against what they've said previously about content, at least according to Ziggy. Tbh, I kinda disagree with this general consensus, if there is one (as opposed to just a vocal minority), that we just need simple leagues, not complex ones. That seems like a very rough, knee-jerk take, sans any nuance. Incursion was a simple league, and apparently had terrible retention - and yes, players should care about that too, cos it means the game wasn't able to engage you for long. The problem is that GGG's implementation of complex leagues is complete ass, both on an optimization (bugs) level and on a design level (3.6.3 was a full re-design of the Nexus, for instance). For one thing, they desperately need to hire some good UX people to fix all the awfully unintuitive shit that this game is full of, the Synthesizer being just the latest one (someone suggested, and showcased, an in-game infocard to show you what you can achieve by Synthesizing the stuff you put into it, for instance, instead of having to check an external calculator). PoE in general has terrible UX (User Experience, for the unfamiliar), so there'll be plenty for them to work on. Chris has mentioned before that the addition of the in-game tutorials made almost no difference to new player retention, but the other half of that is making the game intuitive - and its arguably only been getting worse on that front. Plus making it intuitive also pleases existing players. Anyway, tl;dr: GGG needs to take their own (reported) words to heart, and stop thinking mountains of meaningless filler is good content design. Complex leagues, imo, can work - if designed tastefully (and tested extensively). Edit: On the Dexterity example used, a point was made that it might constitute power creep. That isn't the intention, but fair enough. Consider it this way instead - take the Synthesis recipes we currently have that have 5 or more tiers, and cut them down to 3: the top 3. My rationale for this is simple - it's easy to make those anyway. It's only the tier 1 special craft that's actually hard to make. And the lowest tiers of implicits are way too negligible for anyone to care about. So it's not really about adding anything to the game that's not already in - only taking away stuff that serves little purpose. [link] [comments]

I hope 3.7 will bring more defensive options to 2h Posted: 26 Apr 2019 01:07 AM PDT Bows have quivers, 1h have DW or shields but 2h have nothing except staves having some block. In that case 2h should make it up with crazy damage but they dont. There should be some accessory to 2h axes and swords that can give some survivability. Scabbard or something [link] [comments]

Ice Shot Chilled ground should become a cold damage over time skill. Posted: 26 Apr 2019 05:44 AM PDT Just as the title said, would be nice if we also get an attack based cold damage over time skill, as we already have two chaos damage over time bow skills (CA, TR) [link] [comments]

I hate this game the first time I tried it, but I'm in love now! Posted: 26 Apr 2019 12:18 PM PDT I had originally tried to play this game with a friend who had some 3,000 hours or so into it. He didn't give me much direction and I got overwhelmed extremely fast and only put in maybe 6 hours before I felt totally over my head and just lost. I had no idea what the hell the skill tree was, I didn't know what builds to go for, what perks to look for on armor, etc. I was just...taken back by all of the options. I shelved it for a year or so and a different friend I know loves it and has been playing since beta or something, I'm not totally sure, but a long time, regardless. He had been trying to talk me into giving it a second chance and I was weary because of how last time went. That friend sent me a link to the forums and asked me what type of RPG builds I usually go for and started to guide me through some of the build guides and suggest stuff for me. He explained what all of the build guides meant, and how to read/interpret them, as well as sending links for planners, etc. He basically walked me through as much as someone can in a day. This week I've put in about 40 hours of it and I'm absolutely in love and I am psyched as hell that I gave it a second chance, and that this time, I had a guide to help me learn my way around. I'm splitting my time between two different characters because I enjoy using one to play with friends and one to play solo with. I still know almost nothing, but I can hop in solo now and at least know my way around or know where to look for answers, since this game presents a lot of questions. I don't have much to add or any shocking statements to make here. I just really love it so far and can easily see myself sinking in 500+ hours into this. I'm having a total blast!
