/r/pathofexile is looking for new moderators!

    Posted: 16 Jun 2019 04:56 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

/r/pathofexile has done nothing but grow over the past year and we've never seen more activity than we have right now. For context, since the last time we recruited more folks to the moderator team, the sub has over doubled in size while our team has actually shrunk. So, naturally, we need some more bodies keeping an eye on things. In particular, we're looking for mods active around 4AM to 12PM UTC, which likely means living in Asia or Oceania. Applications from users not active at these times will still be considered but they will not prioritized.

    What do mods do?

Our major goal is to minimise the amount of spam and unpleasant behaviour on the subreddit. As a mod, your biggest task will be going through the moderation queue — a list of all threads and comments that users have reported — determining whether the posts break the subreddit's rules, and taking action accordingly. Most of the time this just means deleting the post or approving it, though sometimes the post will warrant a ban or other action. Ideally you would also be able to spend some time browsing /new and removing rule-breaking posts as they come up, especially around patch releases when the sub is at its busiest.

Other mod duties include responding to user questions and concerns via mod mail (and sometimes other channels), and joining the rest of the mod team in our Discord server to discuss anything moderation related.

    Who are we looking for?

Good mod candidates have most or all of the following:

    • A history of activity. You need to be an active /r/pathofexile member to have a good understanding of the sub. We don't have any strict requirements for how long you've been here, how much you post, your account karma, etc., but we will be taking a look at your posting history.

    • Availability. While we don't expect you to devote a ton of time to actively modding, you do need to be able to check the sub and/or respond to notifications for a reasonable amount of the day. Again, we're particularly looking for users available around 4AM to 12PM UTC, but that is not a requirement to be accepted.

    • Civility, objectivity and communication skills. You need to be able to make decisions without bias, and clearly communicate those decisions and the reasoning behind them to users (including very angry users) without losing your cool.

    • A thick skin. Being a mod means you're going to get insulted on a regular basis. It's absolutely unavoidable, and you have to be able to shrug that off rather than becoming upset or angry.

You don't need previous moderation experience, but if you have any (on reddit or elsewhere) please do mention it!

    How to apply

Just reply to this post! Please include the hours (UTC) that you're usually available and a quick summary of why you'd make a good mod. Please don't nominate other users (though feel free to encourage them to apply themselves).

If you have questions about modding that aren't covered above, please reply to my comment below or PM/modmail. Other top level comments that aren't an application will be removed.

    Thank you!

Big thanks to GGG for Legion - this is the kind of league we want to see

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 12:02 AM PDT

Great job this league. Breach had always been my favorite league mechanic by far, and you guys managed to improve on the formula.

The reasons that make it great that are similar to Breach are:

    • It integrates great with normal flow of the game and never feels intrusive
    • The rewards are varied and impactful you always feel like you could do a little bit better
    • Non-top tier players can still have multiple opportunities to try the mechanic end-game content
    • The end-game content (emblems) provide build defining items

It's a shame about the technical issues, but other than performance issues with the servers (I play on the Japan server), I actually expected more bugs with the sweeping changes to combat. I expected a lot of stuff to be wonky and broken with combat, certain support gems, etc. So, I'm glad you guys are getting a lot of this stuff out of the way before 4.0, even though it means we have to suffer through some rough patches for now.

I know it's not feasible to put out leagues like this every time, but just want to add another vote for Legion as the kind of leagues I really want to support.

Other recent leagues just took you too much out of the main game for my liking including Synthesis, Delve, and Incursion (to some degree - though I still liked it).

Legion is what we want, stuff that's tightly integrated, you want to see it in your maps, you run it and you're done - continue on your way. Lot's of opportunity for great rewards along the way and at end-game.

Cheers to GGG, you guys continually blow me away, league start still feels like Christmas even though I've been playing since Ambush league.

The 'timed shopping spree where you have to pick between awesome rewards' design goal of monoliths doesn't work, because we can't see what is available until it's too late.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 03:19 AM PDT

This has been mentioned multiple times as the primary analogy with how those monoliths are supposed to feel. You're supposed to see all these awesome rewards but you have to pick and choose between them because you won't be able to clear all of them.

But we can't choose between things we can't see. In practice I just rush around the field as fast as possible and break out every symbol-mob I encounter, because I don't know what is available until I stand right on top of it, and I'm not going to potentially waste an armor reward node to look for 'more awesome stuff' knowing that a decent amount of time I won't find anything.

This is also why it feels so important to have more on-kill effects work on these monolith mobs. The only way to make sure you get the rewards you want is... to break all mobs free. This will shoehorn builds towards that direction pretty hard, if they relent.

GGGs stance as of last week is that it won't change because the current way we find out about the mobs with an icon is just the best iteration they could come up with. Is there no plan for improvements in this area at all?

Maraketh rare archers are very overtuned

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 08:41 AM PDT

As title says. On my cyclone slayer with 18k armor, perma fortify, 32% phys reduction (from end charges basalt soul of steel), 7.8k HP I experienced a oneshot with 2 of them in a t11 map with no damage mods. I guess they both crit and they had damage auras on them.

The red ''wall of death'' from vaal was much, much safer before the nerf than the maraketh archers are in their current state. Maraketh is the rarest legion to encounter so I guess there haven't been as much complaints about them.

Possible Bug with Accuracy? Missing a lot with high % to hit

    Posted: 17 Jun 2019 08:56 AM PDT

Is anyone else experiencing a problem where they are missing with a very high chance to hit? With 99% I'm still missing very regularly on attacks (and this is at low levels with low attack speed and mob density so it's pretty noticeable). Maybe I'm just doing something wrong but I feel like I'm missing a lot more than my character sheet indicates I should be.

Currencies should auto stack when they drop

    Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:22 PM PDT

Simple qol improvement that i feel could go a long way. Im sure im not the only person whos suggested something like this

Example of what im talking about: 2 jew orbs drop, instead of having to click on them both, they automatically combine into a stack of 2 jew orbs

    Edit:

Alot of other great suggestions in the comments. I'll put em here for anyone new to the post to see:

Item vaccum/item vaccum on key combination (like shift click)

Alternatively this item vaccum would only apply to currencies or similar currencies
