    Feedback Part 2: The Proposal

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 10:10 AM PDT

    So the results are in!

    https://imgur.com/zGwOr1o

First of all, thank you for your comments and votes.

We are adding the "Cautionary Tale" flair. The majority of respondents support this flair. Based on your feedback, it only applies to "scam warning" style posts.

Just under a quarter of the total vote was to ban scam warnings posts. This means that overall the sub supports their existence.

For showcases, people strongly want us to be more strict, but still allow some posts. Because of this we are proposing a new system for these posts:

    Proposed new rule

/u/AncileBooster (and many people in the poll) suggested we add a rule that requires item posts have a comment explaining the submission. /r/Stellaris has a similar practice and it is very successful.

The extra work required to explain why the sub should care about your submission will discourage repeat and low-effort content. These low-quality threads will likely have a hard time justifying their existence.

Explaining how you obtained whatever the post is showing will encourage real discussion and others to share their knowledge. A well written comment should result in more people up-voting quality posts.

Path of Exile is a complicated game. There may be mechanics that veterans are already aware of but the majority is still learning. Few players know everything that is possible and their rewards. Describing both "why" and "how" helps everybody.

We would remove posts where the users do not describe their post or justify why it is relevant. Your votes, reports and replies to their thread and comment will help us decide what to do when it is not obvious.

With that out of the way here is our proposal for showcases:

Item Showcases: Explain screenshots and videos in detail. Explanations should be a comment in the thread.

Provide background information whenever you post a video or screenshot. Explain what you want users to look at in a comment. Your comment must be descriptive and explanatory - simply referencing the title is not enough, even if the title is adequately explanatory on its own.

Images/video of crafted items or the results of game play should explain what you did to create or obtain it. The subreddit is for discussing Path of Exile and its mechanics. While we all enjoy celebrating luck, the sub isn't only a place to show off. Give the sub a reason to be interested!

    Trialing a new rule

People need time to adjust to any new rules. People submitting will need to get in the habit of posting the comment. Users will (hopefully) get in the habit of reading, voting on and reporting posts according to the new rule. Mods will have to get used to enforcing it fairly.

We are proposing a one-week trial. During this, we will enforce the rule and remind users to post their comments. We will also see what we can do with automod to streamline the process. The Stellaris mods have kindly offered to let us use their bot, so we can look into that as well.

Afterward we will solicit feedback to see if people support adopting the rule. Hopefully we will have an idea of the impact this rule has on which content that sticks around on the front page and how happy people are with it.

We would like to get the rule fleshed out before the new league so that it doesn't further complicate the high amount of traffic we get at league start.

    Flair Filtering

A quick reminder to everyone that filtering via post flairs is possible! There are two ways to do this; the first is through the Reddit Enhancement Suite browser extension and the second is a feature new to the sub: subdomain specific CSS.

    Through RES

RES is a third party tool available for most browsers. You can install it from https://redditenhancementsuite.com/

Once installed go to settings -> FilteReddit -> Flair Filtering

There are more advanced filters you can mess around with but this area will let you blacklist flairs. Meaning you see everything except for flairs you set.

(Mobile users: The 'Reddit is Fun' app can do this as well, Menu->Settings->Content Filters->Post filters->Add New (+) ->select type: flair)

    Subdomains (Old Reddit only)

Some sharper eyed exiles may have already seen this, but the sidebar has a new section. All these links do is change the first part of the URL which we use to show r/pathofexile with some specific visual settings. In this case, to have a specific filter.

The 'Veteran Filter' hides any posts flaired as Item Showcase, Question, Answered Question, Cautionary Tale, and Feedback. The other options whitelist will show only posts with the given flair. To revert just hit back or the "all" button in the sidebar.

Note: Code wise this is a bit clunky: These links will only show up as the old reddit format (light-theme) and will only affect posts made today onwards.

Nerf Cyclone, Fix Multistrike and reduce mana cost on other melee skills in 3.8

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 03:08 AM PDT

Nerf Cyclone, Fix Multistrike and reduce mana cost on other melee skills in 3.8

50% top players played cyclone in 3.7 and the next melee skill on the list was 0.7% (Vaal Double Strike).

The top issues are primarily manacost and that Multistrike is not functioning properly.

I've created a chart that clearly show the effects and difference when you reach a 5Link/6Link on certain skills (Consecrated Path, Dominating Blow, Ice Crash, Lacerate, Sunder, Sweep, Earthquake, Flicker Strike, Frenzy, Tectonic Slam and Elemental Hit).

Each link adds a 140% mana multiplier.

I really hope that GGG address this issue.

And If you add Multistrike multiplier to all charts (Of course you will not use multistrike on all skills)

    Titles as challenge rewards?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 11:54 AM PDT

I'm on my phone so forgive the formatting. So I'm currently 38/40 on challenges, casually grinding away my last two (I started the leauge late) And I've found myself asking myself why i bother grinding 40 when I've got all the mtx rewards? The last bit of the challenge piller? Meh. So I was thinking about earned titles. Now I dont know how many times this has been tossed around, but grinding to hit 40 to choose a faction title (for legion leauge) <Perandus Legionnaire> <Timeless> <Of the Vaal> or a forsaken master related title for betrayal leauge (just examples) <Loremaster> <Master of the Dead> would certainly keep me interested on those last few challenges, and it would be another cool flair piece to work towards. This could be a time sink for people who have "finished" a leauge and a way to financially support the game through certain mtx titles. Has this idea been brought up too many times before? If so what was the consensus? What do you guys think? -ChaiTeaWithMilk <Master of the Dead>

    FWIW: chain hook rant

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 08:37 AM PDT

So a few weeks ago I set out to make a berserker build using an off meta skill. I thought chain hook looked interesting—in particular the fact that you can get 1 rage for every hit on an enemy was particularly intriguing. Hitting 15-20 aps with buffs I figured stacked with the rage from berserker ascendancy and the rage from rage support, I would be able to build rage incredibly quickly as well as sustain berserk for a ridiculous amount of time.

In actual practice however, for all bosses through T16 maps, the fight was usually over within a few seconds (barring invuln stages), so the ability to sustain rage with berserk activated really only has relevance for shaper and elder fights as far as I am concerned.

However, even for those fights, the other problems with chain hook really come to bear. First, is the relatively poor single target damage compared to a skill like blade flurry (this is on a pure phys, crit, impale berserker using dual jeweled foils). Don't get me wrong, the PoB damage with chain hook (without factoring impale damage) was anywhere from 2-3 million shaper dps with the situational buffs like berserk, Vaal warchief and Vaal grace activated.

But when I decided to see what I could get using blade flurry, my eyeballs popped out of my skull as I was hitting about 9.2 million shaper dps, which for my typical builds and budget is a mind blowing amount of damage. Again that's without factoring maxed out impale damage (including the extra stacks with watchers eyes), which supposedly gives you an incredible 150% more damage multiplier on a non-champion build.

Some of the difference in dps is down to the fact that, IMO, chain hook has to be run with multistrike to be playable. That is a huge loss in dps compared to blade flurry right there.

Then toss in the fact that blade flurry's aoe has way more reach and apparent coverage than chain hook's cone-shaped shockwave and that chain hook requires very careful positioning for optimal clearing, and the desire to play an off meta skill like chain hook just starts to vaporize. Let's not even mention that you get a nice defensive buff with infused channeling support too. The fact that even without the berserk buff you are getting almost 2x the dps with blade flurry compared to chain hook with berserk up is pretty ridiculous and just adds insult to injury. So even for the shaper and elder fights, chain hook just can't measure up. It's not even remotely close.

One other problem with chain hook is the inability to leap Slam smoothly while the skill is active. This is in stark contrast to blade flurry and the even more ridiculous cyclone, where you can just hold down the attack button and simultaneously hit leap slam whenever you want without a hitch.

There is literally no reason to play chain hook. None. There's not even some subjective QoL reason to play it. It is just VASTLY outclassed by blade flurry in every single way. The fact that 3-4x more dps is achievable on the exact same build, with the exact same equipment, is pretty much a joke. Then factor in the defensive and QoL perks and you have to be a glutton for mediocrity or just stupid to use chain hook.

How to not Crash in 5ways with Tornado Shot

How to not Crash in 5ways with Tornado Shot

    https://i.redd.it/z6x7w0ty7ng31.png

    https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2612327

This is the post that I do 5way carry and people know that I don't usual crash 5ways.

it is like 50 run and 1 crash.

The game have 2 kind of crashes, first is your game client crash, the other is the server crash.

if it is your game client crash, you can always re-login and continue the run,

but if it is a server crash you will not able to continue .

Here is the theory that I don't crash the server .

First, the Carry should use "Predictive" mode to have less workload for the server.

and the respawner should use lockstep to do accurate re spawn.

The re spawn mechanic is when you get out of the black circle, the monster spawn.

Therefore, if the respawner can recharge the "black stone" at fast as he can then go out and back in, it will res spawn the monster.

Second, use as much dps / Freeze chance at your gear and skill tree. When monster is instant kill or Freeze, it is less calculation for the server.

Third, look at the heartbeat of the game .(only on the carry side)

if the Frame time is 27K for me at hideout, +5K is the danger line +20K usual will crash.

Also look at the Latency if it is not beating, that mean's you are disconnected.

    Thank you ggg

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 12:19 PM PDT

I see so much hate about multimoding being op, one skill dominating the meta and so on

But overall I wanna thank ggg for making this game possible and as special as it is

I started playing poe a year ago and Alrdy sank 2k + hrs into it and I love it more than almost any other game I have played over the years

Even though I get burned out after 1.5 months of playing my ass off, I always come back and play the next league

The learning curve I went through is amazing and the way this game feels is honestly amazing... Yeah it might have issues with 1 or 2 things but who is perfect?

Overall I just wanna thank ggg for everything ❤️

Badger's Road to Headhunter - An Update on the future of further posts

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 03:22 AM PDT

Hey there, It's your friendly neighbourhood Badger here.

Many of you have been following and enjoying the posts on my daily data collections on my Road to Headhunter series, and most recently a redux into Magic find and super speed using the same parameters. Unfortunately, I will not be continuing to post or show anything on this series on Reddit any more, due to a few complications that I won't go into.

While I'm sad to let you guys know, as I've really enjoyed writing these posts and making them fun and exciting to read, it's been made clear to me that this isn't the place to present such data in the way I am doing. So, I will be continuing the series on other platforms, and the mods have let me know I am able to mention that if you would like to keep up to date, you can do so via my YouTube channel or Twitch channel.

If you'd like to see the Google Sheet that I have constructed and will be updating every day I have more data, feel free to bookmark THIS LINK. I'm super keen to see where this data takes us!

Seriously guys and gals, this has been such an awesome journey and I thank you one last time for how receptive you have been to my Road to Headhunter, and all the lovely words on inspiration I have caused for some mad currency gains. Keep believing in that efficiency and those exalted orb drops! I might post here extremely rarely from here on out, but you won't be seeing much of me around here.

EDIT: Please keep it civil out there, fellow exiles! The #9 self-promotion rule of the sub-reddit is unfortunately quite grey, as mods have also admitted, but it is apparent I crossed it, albeit unknowingly. I don't want this to turn into a battle of words against each other, this was merely a final update on the future of this content :) Please respect all parties in this decision :)

I hope Synthesis didn’t deter complicated mechanics.

    Posted: 14 Aug 2019 09:29 PM PDT

As fun as Legion is, it's simple and that's exactly what GGG was going for and what the community wanted. Just a straightforward loot fiesta with no real complicated mechanics.

I'm a bit worried GGG might be a little hesitant to put out ambitious leagues like Synthesis in the future.

Some of my friends and I hit 40/40 3+ weeks ago and have quit the league since. There's just not much to do after 40/40; no new crafting system, side mechanic, timesink, etc.

I'm glad Legion was successful and GGG definitely needed the win after Synthesis, but don't be scared to bring out big brain leagues please.

I know you guys care a lot about your player retention numbers, etc. but simple leagues like Legion become really stale really early on..

    Just a thought.

    [Hideout Decoration Suggestion] Trigger effects

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 02:16 AM PDT

Hey all, although I'm not very involved in hideout creation, I do like hideout showcases and seeing other people's hideouts and eventually I will build my very own cool hideout... maybe :P

In any cast, I was thinking how hideouts can be made more interesting if they had a dynamic aspect to them, something that can interact with players - Triggerable objects

Basically these can be invisible tiles or areas that when triggered they apply an effect of some sorts

    Some general direction:

    - Triggered when stepped on\clicked

    - Toggle when stepped on\clicked

    - Triggered when portals are above it - can be used to create a 'closed' portal effect etc.

    - Connect to another decoration to make it appear\disappear - this was the bulk of my thought proccess but I realise it would require a lot more work because you'll need an interface for connecting\disconnecting decorations but will offer a huge opportunity to create some very creative mechanisms

Ideas to make use of these from the top of my head:

    - Create interesting map devices that change when you open or close portals or when you enter the room

    - Create secret areas in your hideout and puzzles for other people to explore

    - Troll your friends with hidden traps!

    - Open\shut areas in your hideout when you want to trade untradable things such as hideouts etc.

There are probably a lot of things that can be done with this sort of things and I'd really like to hear your ideas!

    Idea for weekend events

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 08:19 AM PDT

It would be cool if we got weekend events that rotated throughout the league, starting after a month of the league launch.

Maybe 24 hours on Saturday and it features old league mechanics.

24 hours of no sulphite cost for one weekend. Following weekend something new like 2-3 breaches in all maps, or beyond in all maps, Syndicate in all maps, etc.

Bring new life to the league population later in the league and focus it on one day.

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 12:32 PM PDT

I'm a new player to path of exile and i've been looking at a ton of builds and the build i'd really like to work towards I need these boots but everywhere i look its not very great at explaining. It says its a random drop from areas with league flag for breach? I don't understand what this means. Also when i look at the wiki it says it can be crafted with vendor recipes but then proceeds to not make sense with the recipe visual. Help would be greatly appreciated in my options for acquiring these items. Preferably not having to enter league if possible

New player in act 2, haven't died yet.. Looking for help

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 09:05 AM PDT

I started with a witch .. I have 79/110/96 base stats and 595 life... I'm not using any build and don't want to copy as I enjoy theory crafting and am loving the difficulty of it all. The question I have right now is probably because I use to play diablo, is it normal to hybrid the skill tree? I find myself reaching first for damage then I needed dex nodes for certain items. I'm almost to end if act 2 and i feel like I need to start moving left for more life as the enemies are finally putting out damage. Is that ok or do I continue east on the skill tree and go south to what i see are shield nodes? I haven't even got a spell of protection so I'm not sure if that will come as soon. And as a new player on my first run through i don't want to invest in strength and life if I'm gonna be a bad was witch that can protect herself with magical shields, any help is appreciated.

"Legion" Specific Uniques need to be more common in 3.8

    Posted: 14 Aug 2019 05:02 PM PDT

Please don't keep the revamped, now legion exclusive, uniques (Rathpith Globe, Pledge of Hands, Voll's Protector, etc) at very low drop rates when legion goes core.

It would be a shame to have build enabling uniques locked behind dismal RNG drops in legion encounters when monoliths become far, far rarer.

At the very least, Generals should have an almost guaranteed chance of dropping a "legion" unique from their army's drop pool instead of the ~15 splinters they currently drop.
