    So I intentionally scammed someone.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:00 AM PST

I come from EVE Online and thus am no stranger to scamming. However, aside from one Barghest heist when it first came out (long story, but probing in high sec is fun sometimes) I've never scammed anyone. I actually was known as a middle man who could be trusted. In short, I abhor scamming. However, today while completing a challenge and killing a metamorph, a guy asked to buy an item. I sent back I was in a map and to wait and he immediately spams me with three or more party invites. The metamorph, being in the bottom right of the screen it was covered and...well, RIP. Told the guy he RIP'd me, his response is "get good scrub, now sell me the item".

So I did. Hopped on my alt, sold him the item, or so he thought. I actually gave him an item with a similar name and the same base, and he bought it. 10ex. After it closed and I had my money, he leaves the party. A minute later, he starts screaming about scamming him. My response?

    "Get good, scrub."

Figured I'd just get ahead of it since he said he'd be making a thread: scammed him good. And th exalts have gone to newbros in global 820. Didn't keep one. :)

Performance tip: you can actually reap the --nosound benefits, but still have sounds(dialog/filter)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:15 AM PST

I was getting annoyed by the fact that using -ns (--nosound) gives such a great improvement to general performance, but you couldnt hear filter or anything as you can imagine. But turns out it IS possible to disable selective sound options if that gives you performance issues.

    • go to C:\Users\yourpcusername\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile
    • edit production_Config.ini
    • go to section sound
    • change values that you dont want to hear from numerical to false (in my example, leave master volume a number; item filter - number; everything else- false) (probably most intensive resource eating one is sound effects, so you can start from that one)
    • profit (slap on extra gore, and go test on legion encounter :D)

TLDR: You can actually change sound values in config file to false(disable) instead of 0(mute) and it will improve performance drastically.

Introducing: Zero to Hero Challenge (trading focused)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:26 AM PST

Hi Reddit, Path of Matth here! So it's time to give back to the Path of Exile community since you guys have been so good to me in the recent times.

The Challenge will be just as the name suggests, we are going to be starting with NOTHING and reaching incremental goals. Each increment will be documented to teach you guys how to scale how much currency you can make when you have "none" compared to when you have "a little bit" of currency or even once you already have a fair bit.

This challenge will be trading focused since that's basically my extent of knowledge when it comes to generating currency, I'm not a zoomer, not a mapper, not a boss killer. I enjoy playing with the economy.

Everything used in this challenge will be made "on the fly" so as to not give me any advantages of any kind, this includes trading filters, buy-orders, etc. The idea is that anything I will be making or using, you guys will see live and I will be able to explain my thought process behind every decision I make when it comes to trading.

I will be streaming the whole thing on my twitch and the documented series will be available on my youtube channel in multiple incremental videos.

    The rules are fairly simple:

The moment I Exit "The Ledge", I am not allowed to kill any monsters from there. I am allowed to farm the zone a few times to start off with an alchemy or fusing or something else than just a few wisdom scroll fragments. Otherwise we simply won't ever get anywhere.

Any trading filters or other tools used need to be made "on the fly", so no prior made filters or anything.

I am not allowed to take ANY handouts and if I feel any trade isn't completely legitimate, I will delete the currency or item after refunding myself. The challenged is streamed on a "secret account" to prevent as much illegitimacy as possible!

Every trade will be screenshotted so people can literally follow from the very beginning to however far we can get.

THE ENTIRETY of the challenge must be streamed, not a single trade can be done in the shadows.

Feel free to ask any questions or come by and say Hi, I want this to be a community project, for the community and done alongside the community. The goal here is simple, teach anyone and everyone from any experience level how they can afford the most expensive of items or builds in the game if they are willing to sacrifice a bit of time to the trading life.

PSA: You need 117% uncapped elemental resistances to do Ele Weakness maps now

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:05 AM PST

EDIT:- Correction - apparently the Awakening level affects the curse level used, not the actual -resistance number. So it bumps up the Ele Weakness curse level from 15 to 18 instead, resulting in a 37% resistance penalty, not 42% as mentioned below. So the total resistance you need to be Ele Weakness capped is only 112%, just 3% higher than before. Sorry about the mistake. Thanks to u/komandos45 for catching it.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

...at Awakener Level 8. For years now, common wisdom has been that one should shoot for 109% all res ('cept chaos, although chaos damage is more common - and dangerous! - nowadays too) in order to stay at capped resistances even in red tier Elemental Weakness maps (since the curse cuts your resists by 34%). However endgame now involves getting your Awakener Level to 8, and one of the effects of that is a 24% multiplier on the strength of all map mods, which means those Ele Weakness curses on red maps should now cut your resists by 42%. So to stay at 75% resists, you'll now have to get all your resists up to 117% (obviously higher if you've got some added max resists, or if you also want to counteract any elemental curses from monsters in the map). Just a PSA for those who might not have realized and were relying on the old figure (being down 8% on your resists can be deadly!).

    Low-Commitment Currency Making [Guide]

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:21 PM PST

This is intended for relatively new players, or players wondering about how to afford the necessary items for a particular build. Experienced/already rich players probably won't get anything new from it.

The reason I'm writing this is many other currency-building guides have seemed either (a) too focused on people who already had big currency stashes to do stuff like advanced crafting or (b) wanted to primarily focus on making currency by flipping items etc rather than playing the game.

My perspective: I want to engage the trade system as little as possible, but still get whatever items I need to complete my build. This is all stuff you can do, starting from just a build in maps, and gear it up to wherever you want to be.

This is from the perspective of softcore trade league. HC may be different.

    So, some tips:

    Item Management:

    • Rares picked up in white and yellow maps are almost always worthless because they can't get the top rolls. If your builds tend to stall out around level 80-85 then you are never getting access to top tier items.

I had this experience many times: my build felt "meh" going into red maps, so I re-rolled. Spend a day leveling, but that's a day of getting zero valuable items and so the next build was also "meh" because it was under-geared. Re-rolling characters is the surest way to not make currency.

    • Managing your loot: Very Strict loot filter to not pick up bad bases. Throw your jewelry and other potentially good items (high ilvl boots, gloves, jewelry etc) into a junk tab then ID and price them all at once when you want a breather from mapping. Don't bother with chaos recipe.

    Item Pricing:

    • 90% of your currency comes from 10% of the trades you make. The big ticket items. I was lucky enough to have The Doctor drop off a metamorph in Tane's lab early in the league, which funded an entire character. Maximize your chances to get the big stuff! Small trades of 5-15c are worth doing but I think of that more as community service than actually building toward items I want.

    • Don't price any items below 5c at league start, or below 10c once the league is established. Not worth your time. Low-valued items are also most likely to have buyers who message 5 people, then if you don't reply in 3 seconds say "already got." And your time was wasted. Don't bother.

    • Uniques: if it is a popular item, check for high rolls on its attributes. If they're near perfect, price it at some high amount (15-25+ chaos depending on item). Otherwise vendor. No one wants a crappy rolled unique item and selling them for an alc is waste of time.

    • Don't try to be the lowest priced on poe.trade. Chances are that is a price fixer. I usually price about 20% above the lowest price, and if it hasn't sold I reduce it slowly. If you get a really good item (e.g. 3 or 4 tier 1/2 rolls) it's better to overprice at first and then slowly lower it down.

    • Trade tabs: I have them at 7c, 15c, 25c, 35c, 55c, and everything else. If you have less tabs, don't bother with lower valued trades. If something doesn't sell in 24 hours I'll drop it to the next lower tab, when the lowest tier is full I vendor all of it.

If you get a message within 1 minute of listing your item, chances are you underpriced it. Not obligated to sell to someone just because you triggered their trade alert!

    Jewels.

This is where I've made most currency this league. I'll break into some subpoints as this is easy, easy currency.

    1. Unique jewels that are sometimes used: Vaal orb them. If you hit "cannot be afflicted with corrupted blood" that is an 80c-1ex item right there. Corrupted blood is part of endgame mechanics so everyone wants immunity to it. "Cannot be silenced" is also good as every caster would like to have that. However, corrupting rare jewels is generally not worth it.

    2. Jewel with life and 2 good damage mods = 50c or more. 3 damage mods = 10c. 4 good mods including life = 2ex. Anything else = vendor. Pricing can be more complicated than that but price-checking in depth isn't worth the time so I just use that method. Knowing the meta, what is popular, and what is useful helps a lot. For example, jewels with minion damage are extremely easy to sell right now.

    3. Abyssal jewels of ilvl 80+ are always worth rolling with some alts and regals. Crappy rare ones are worth scouring and then rolling. You can easily turn 10-15 alts, some regals, and 2 minutes of your time into 25+ chaos this way.

    About 5- and 6-linking items: don't. Just don't.

You'd do better to sell your fuses and jewelers for currency and buy a 6 linked item or prophecy. Buy a Jeweler's Touch prophecy for 15-20c and you have your 5L starter gear all set, and it's 99% of the time cheaper than linking yourself. Attempting to 6-link items myself was another way I killed my wealth in previous leagues.

    Jewelry:

Some of the hardest items to price/sell. Early in a league, life and some resists will get 10c. Around now in the league, those are worth maybe 5c and hence not worth selling usually.

    1. People want high DPS from their amulets so if it doesn't have some great offensive stat, it probably won't sell. However, good amulets easily go for a lot and you shouldn't price them less than 80c or so. High life and damage = 80c, high life, damage and resists = 1.5ex+.

    2. Rings are usually where people fill in missing stats (dex/int/str) and resists. I usually price rings around 15-25c unless they are obviously amazing (100+ resists and life) where they cross the 1ex mark.

    Low commitment crafting:

    1. if an ilvl 84+ Vaal Regalia drops, you can hit it with a bound dense fossil. Decent ES roll + crafting bench = 60+ chaos item for minimal effort.

    2. Stygian Vises are always worth scouring and hitting with some essences for life/resists. Easy 15c-1ex items result. Essences that add Dex are very good here as otherwise that cannot roll on a belt. Or use fossils to add +% chaos damage, those are highly popular items in this league.

    3. Crafting bench. Boots with great resists and life, but no movespeed? Ring with great resists, but no life roll? Slap an extra mod on there. This is risky, as if it never sells you've wasted currency. But it also can make your item show up in searches that would otherwise exclude it. Not always worth doing, but can lead to 10-15c profits on items that otherwise would go to a vendor.

    4. Flasks. I made my earliest currency rolling Quicksilver Flasks of Adrenaline/Warding with whatever prefix. 5c each. Later I started qualitying up flasks and selling them at 7-10c. Alchemists, Experimenters, etc prefix on Diamond, Quartz, Granite will typically sell if the suffix is decent. I'm not 100% sure this is cost-effective but it's easy and a kinda fun way to turn alterations into chaos.

    Other League Mechanics:

    • Prophecies: I don't think these are worth the effort of sealing and selling unless you hit a big money one. Just run them. If you get a fated unique prophecy, often it can be worthwhile to buy a well-rolled unique base from someone, run it yourself to complete the prophecy, and profit.

    • Divination cards: I make this tab public. Occasionally I get an offer on a card, and 75% of the time it's a ridiculous lowball offer. Once I get an offer, I go check the price and actually put my card up for sale. Never price your div card at the lowest price. I think these are some of the most heavily price-fixed items on the market (which also makes them pretty miserable to buy). And don't bother selling cards in the 1-2c range, just pick them up and complete the set yourself. In the early days of a league, selling div cards is a very easy way to get starter currency - later on, less so.

    • Beasts: under-used, I think. Run your Einhar missions and occasionally check if you have any oddly specific craftings available at the bestiary. As a relatively new player it can be hard to tell what these are worth, but price-checking beasts on poe.trade will occasionally land you a quick sale, as there are some people out there who really like beast crafting.

    As a buyer:

    • The people with items listed the cheapest are not worth messaging. Save your time by paying an extra couple chaos and message people who might actually respond. Item is at cheapest price and has been listed 2 weeks? You are wasting your time to try buying that item.

    • Avoiding scams: read the item you're buying. If it's linked, run your cursor over the links to see they're all there. Do those two things and you'll never be scammed. Items priced suspiciously low are most likely to be scams and you should be extra cautious.

This went longer than I expected, hope someone finds it helpful! Edits for grammar, added the flasks section.

The sheer amount of times I have been one shot out of nowhere and have no earthly idea what killed me is infuriating. I have no idea what area of my defense I need to improve on. Really annoying. Freakin FPS where the cause of death is 100% "you were shot, or got blowed up" have super detailed death recaps. This game that is more in depth than the freakin Marianas Trench has zip. UGHHHH.
