    Level 99-100 in 1hr 8min 51s (275M xp/hr @ lvl99) by only mapping

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:28 AM PST

    Full Video: Youtube

2 weeks ago, we had an attempt at leveling from 99-100 as fast as we can, and achieved a time of 1:39:50. After learning that the Blooming Populace watchstone was bugged and didn't generate additional packs in that run, we decided to have an another go after its fix on 3.9.2b.

The setup was similar but with little changes to watchstones/scarabs/main skill used. We were able to decrease the time by more than 30 minutes, despite fivestar disconnecting about 5 times during the run (the clock was not stopped during his disconnects).

On the last post, people were discussing how OP and broken headhunter is and that it should be nerfed/removed from the game. You have to remember that headhunter alone is not capable of doing stuff like this and this run needs a specific and very expensive setup to achieve.

    Best kind of Smite

So this guy hit 22,700 delve on Standard today

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:17 AM PST

Edit: Since a lot of people are bringing this up in the comments, no I'm not saying he only makes 2ex per hour nor am I saying that he's barely making any currency because all those scarabs and maps would cost a lot. In fact, reality is he's probably swimming in mirrors doing this (and likely even before doing this) due to the number of fossil nodes after a certain point (can't remember the exact depth). Either way, the sections were just for perspective so the average player can get an idea of how impressive going that deep would cost in terms of man hours and currency.

    Yep this guy, BlinkDelve

and I thought it would be fairly interesting to put into perspective how many hours of gameplay this might be. Now if Delve was just a straight path downwards affair, then this number wouldn't seem like much especially with people making really fast builds. The player in question actually runs a Raider so we can only imagine that is the case. However if you guys have been delving, you will probably know a few basic things such as how

    1. The paths aren't always straight so the player is forced to go sideways sometimes
    2. Some destinations require the player to defeat an encounter that can last a minute or two
    3. Some paths are just really long

On top of these, there are also other factors that may slow a player down such as

    1. Stopping to check a crack in the wall for fossils
    2. Stashing/selling drops found along the way
    3. Gathering the necessary sulphite required to delve that deep
    4. Taking humane breaks after each node to assess where to go or to simply rest a little

As such, I would say it is more than generous to assume that the player only takes 3 minutes per depth on average making his way down (I know some people take 30s per node but that's not on average and am also factoring in the time taken to gather the Sulphite here as well). This means that BlinkDelve would have spent 68100 minutes or 1135 hours on delve alone. Assuming that he played every single day since Delve was implemented into the game on August 31 2018, it would have been 519 days since then till today which means he's averaging 2.2 hours a day delving without missing a day. Even if he played 8 hours every single day, that would've still taken him 141 days, almost 5 months to make this progress.

That's pretty insane, but that's not all

Referring to a post by another Reddit user where he tried to work out the sulphite cost per node as well as the average amount of Sulphite you get per t16 map, the numbers come out to

    • 574,796 from depths 270 to 920
    • 1100 per depth from 921 onwards

Since I don't have the values for the first 270 floors, I will simply ignore it since the numbers are already crazy enough with what we have. In total, BlinkDelve would have needed 24,532,796 sulphite to delve to those levels (not counting accidentally mess ups and deaths, thus wasting sulphite). For the sake of it, I ran a juiced t16 map through Niko with 3 fragments to simulate using the slot in the middle for a sulphite scarab. I started the map with 8625 sulphite and ended with 14,933 sulphite. This means that the map gave me 6308 sulphite. Below is a table depicting how much sulphite this would translate to for each scarab tier as well as the cost of the scarab on standard.

Mission Type Theoretical Sulphite Gain Cost on Standard Sulphite per Chaos
Plain Niko Mission 6308 Free -
    Rusted Sulphite Scarab 7569.6 25c 302.78
    Polished Sulphite Scarab 8831.2 30c 294.37
    Gilded Niko Mission 10092.8 50c 201.86

Doing a free sulphite run every single day for 519 days with Niko would give Blink 3,273,852 sulphite for "free". This would leave him to cover the remaining 21,258,944 sulphite with chaos which if we assume he opted for the cheapest route, cost him 70213 Chaos or 413 Exalts at current exchange rates for Standard. Of course if he ran this in Sulphite rotations, then that would only be 69 exalts which is pretty nice.

Speaking of which, in terms of numbers of maps ran that would be 2808 maps which if we factor in the cost of everything including

    • Tier 16 map (12c)
    • 4 Chisels (2.67c)
    • 3 Fragments (3c)
    • 1 Vaal Orb (1.5c)
    • 1 Alchemy Orb (0.39c)

will cost him 19.56c per map, 54924.48c total which is 323 Exalts. Again, if he ran this in a 6 man group, the cost would come down to 53.8 Exalts which sums to 123 Exalts including sulphites. To be honest, that's a lot less than what I imagined (remember we are assuming best case scenario). Of course if he ran all of them alone, that would be 736 Exalts. That said, this is probably a small cost to bear considering the profits he would be making at those depths which I am unfamiliar with.

    Last but not least

I was kind of curious how much currency this amount of delving would translate to. While we can't gauge how much exactly Blink makes per hour unless he himself personally tracks and releases the data, we can find comparable results from other players and establish a baseline amount that would at least be making. As such, we will look at these 2 posts

    - Player A who made 25 exalts over 162,000 sulphite which is around 6480 sulphite per exalt

    - Player B who made 982c over 35,000 sulphite which is around 5703 sulphite per exalt assuming exalts are 160c each during that league (not going to check)

Of course, these data are from extremely different leagues which means fossil prices and such as going to greatly differ but we just want some data for our fun reference so they are good enough. If we look at the data, it also kind of makes sense that player A would be earning less currency per sulphite (thus needing more sulphite per exalt) since he's delving at a much lower level of 150 rather than player B's 250. Now if we were to assume worst possible scenario this time round of 6480 sulphite per exalt, Blink's staggering 24,532,796 sulphites spent would still earn him a whopping total of 2430.7 Exalts assuming he was doing low delves but realistically this number could easily reach 5000 given how deep he has gone. Even so just with 2430.7 Exalts in total, that is still 2.14 Exalts per hour which is more than the average player would earn mapping on league and again, this number could be way higher.

All of a sudden, our previous section guessing at the cost of his runs appear to be a tiny price to pay considering the massive amounts of profits he's earning back.

    Conclusion?

This post is definitely in no way meant to be educational or anything as you can tell from the lack of any sample size for my data. I was simply bored and wanted to get a grasp of how much time Blink would have needed to achieve this depth and while 1135 hours does not seem like a staggering amount for any PoE veterans, we have to understand that this was number was a very generous estimate. On top of that, there are plenty of other factors which could easily push the amount of time spent close to 2000 hours or more such as

    - The player does not only delve downwards (checking for abyssal cities and such)

    - The player does not only delve (mapping is an obvious alternative)

    - The player might even take time to play the league to try mechanics

    - The player is not always fully efficient with his time on PoE

Even so, most players don't even come close to this amount of hours spend, let alone come into possession of that much currency in their entire lifetime playing Path Of Exile. Is the information relevant? Nope but I guess it's pretty interesting.

My luckiest craft craft this league. Int stacking amulet for my wander

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 11:12 AM PST

If GGG doesn't want Necros to be so common, they need to make the game more friendly to less mobile styles of play and more melee builds and probably tone down damage while increasing clarity and fight complexity

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 11:46 AM PST

We all know the issues with this league at this point. Visual clarity and clarity in general is very lacking when it comes to metamorphs especially. Necros are by far the strongest because they are cheap, you can be far away from damage sources, and you can invest a ton of points in defense without losing much in terms of offense. Nerfing Necromancers really isn't the answer.

There are zero builds that are viable in this league (and especially on Sirus) where you need to stand still to ramp damage. Good luck killing tier 16 metamorphs reliably with a storm burst build unless you are putting in 50+ exalts much less awakener 8. Good luck as a non cyclone build melee and seeing anything during a metamorph encounter while getting meaningful damage on the metamorph or Sirus.

The statistics for most common ascendancies in HC are pretty telling. Obviously Necros dominate followed by extremely tanky builds/mine build. Either avoid standing still as much as possible or be able to tank almost anything...not that people in HC even risk making super metamorphs.

Glass cannon builds should be viable and you should get one shot on them but not by abilities with no tell or their animation doesn't finish before damage is applied.

I should be rewarded for good mechanical gameplay. However, movement in this game is so awkward that added complexity isn't very desirable. The lack of range indicators for spells such as summoning also add to this clunkiness where I walk to cast when I am meaning to cast in place or something similar. I understand that is how this genre has been forever but that doesn't mean it has a positive impact on the experience. Giving us movement and indicators like MOBAs have could be beneficial.

Nerfing Necromancers will do nothing but make the next best thing just as prominent. Tanks should be desirable for either party play or slow and less mechnically gifted gameplay (in an ARPG) instead of being the only option short of Necromancers even though tank Necromancers are extremely prominent as well.

I am not saying every build should be viable for awakener 8/t16 on a budget, I am saying that you shouldn't need absurd amounts of currency to make the majority of builds viable. Arc is probably one of the most common noob builds and it is so tilting to learn you need a large amount of currency or perfect mechanics over a long period of time to kill end game bosses reliably.

The Road to 100 Uber Elders - A Dazzling Display of Data!

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:48 AM PST

(If you're more of a visual person, there is a link to the VOD of this farming here!)

    I don't know why I did this.

The death and destruction, over and over, of two misunderstood miscreations isn't my usual weeks work. But for some reason, this void of pain drew me in - what would it be like if I broke the will of two of the most powerful beings in Path of Exile's dark universe? I had to see.

Plus, currency is cool, I guess.

    THE GOAL

I set out to farm 100 Uber Elders this league, over the course of a few days. Buying fragments, selling items, and going insane from the repetitiveness of this ordeal was all part of the plan. I wasn't expecting the results however.

There were a few guidelines I put in place for this, which I will list for all you lovely Exiles, and then we will get into the meat of the data. THIS IS A JUICY ONE, EXILE!

    1. I must sell all Watcher's Eyes in their UNIDENTIFIED state. No gambling for massive rolls, just consistent currency
    2. All fragments must be funded by myself. This was an ordeal, let me tell you
    3. I mustn't chicken out if I get amazing luck halfway through. Gotta stick it out to the end, ol' Badger, my boy.
    4. All items found must be sold at their market price
    5. All data is to be collected in the form of CHAOS, as Exalted orbs have been fluctuating recently, so they aren't as reliable a source of data

And that's my guidelines! Follow along, if you would like, with the SPARKLY SPREADSHEET situated here. There's some saucy data going on in here.

    THE UNIQUE DROPS

From Uber Elder, there are a few different drop pools of items. The first interesting pool is the Uniques: Mark of the Shaper, Mark of the Elder, Voidfletcher, Eternity Shroud, Indigon, Voidforge, and Disintegrator. There Uniques all share the same rule of ONLY ONE CAN DROP PER FIGHT. This means that out of 100 runs, there are 100 Uniques from this pool, divided into different rarities and chances to drop. Here is that data:

    Mark of the Elder: 33

    Mark of the Shaper: 27

    Indigon: 16

    Voidfletcher: 11

    Disintegrator: 8

    Voidforge: 4

    Eternity Shroud: 1

It's quite interesting, initially, that Eternity Shroud has only a 1% drop rate, or so it seems, from Uber Elder. Look, it kinda does make sense, as it is SUPER powerful when built properly around. But, those numbers mean nothing without the chaos behind them. Here is the revenue from these Unique Drops:

Mark of the Elder: 1304 chaos

Mark of the Shaper: 1155 chaos

    Indigon: 315 chaos

    Voidfletcher: 3407 chaos

    Disintegrator: 115 chaos

Voidforge: 100 chaos (should have done this later, I betcha they'll go up from the Mathil Effect)

    Eternity Shroud: 1764 chaos

    RUNNING TOTAL: 8160 CHAOS

The next pool, albeit small, was the i86 shaper/elder base drops. Here, we only sold a few that were worth anything, totalling 380 chaos.

    RUNNING TOTAL: 8540 CHAOS

But, the big guns haven't been totalled yet: the Watcher's Eyes.

Over 100 runs, we dropped a total of 22 Eyes, giving us a total of 38,943 CHAOS. Sweet mother of all that is holy and good, that be a lot of mullah. This brings us to a grand total revenue of:

47,483 CHAOS (right now, that converts to 291.3 EXALTED ORBS, or 1.27 MIRROR OF KALANDRAS)

But, a total like that means nothing without factoring in the currency investment. And let me tell you, it ain't pretty.

Average Cost per Set: 416.84 Chaos

    Total cost: 41,684 Chaos

    TOTAL PROFIT (Revenue-Cost):

    5,799 CHAOS.

It's definitely a good profit! Although... Eh, it's not as much as I thought it would be, considering the time, and effort, it took to buy and run all of these. But, why did I expect more? It's time for a little bit of a deeper dive into the data to see.

    WHY SO LOW?

The main reason, as you may have guessed, to why the profit isn't as much as you may assume, all comes down to do with our favourite mechanic of which our saviour Chris Wilson is Emperor, God, and Deity of: Luck. The Stated average of Runs Per Watcher's Eye (R/WE) is considered to be 4 - meaning, that for every 4 Uber Elders you run, you should expect on average to receive one Watcher's Eye.

So, r/WE should be 100 runs for 25 Watcher's Eyes. As you've seen above, I'm 3 short of that, meaning I got under the average luck over all of the 100 runs.

If we consider that the average selling point of the Unidentified Watcher's Eyes I sold was 1770.14 chaos, then If we had received the average amount of Watcher's Eyes in our 100 runs, we would be:

    5310.41 CHAOS RICHER.

This is close to double the profit we actually made. In fact, it is a 92% Profit Increase. You can begin to see how VOLATILE Uber Elder farming can be. Profitable, but volatile.

    MISCELLANEOUS DATA

I also kept track of lots of other interesting points of data. Let's chuck them all here, shall we?

Average run time (timer starts when Shaper is targetable): 1 minute and 48 seconds

Shortest run: 1 minute and 36 seconds

Longest run: 2 minutes and 36 seconds (exactly a minute longer - suffice to say I died a couple of times in that run)

    Runs per Watcher's Eye: 4.55

Longest Dry streak (without a Watcher's Eye drop): 13 runs

Most Watcher's Eyes in a row: 4 runs

    Total Deaths: 18 (oops)

    Average Deaths per run: 0.18

    Profit per run: 57.99 chaos

Peak Profit: On run no. 59, I had a running total profit of 10,621 chaos. If I stopped there I would have been rolling in it, baby.

    SO IS IT WORTH IT?

I'm gonna lay out a few pros and cons about whether running Uber Elder is worth it. Here we go:

    PROS:

    1. It is very profitable if you have average luck.
    2. If you stop after a good run, say for example 3 or 4 watcher's eyes, you can net a hefty profit. No need to run 100 like I did.
    3. You get to pummel tentacles into the ground for hours on end. I know you want that. You definitely do.

    CONS:

    1. Very expensive to start. The fragment sets cost a lot per run.
    2. If you get unlucky at the beginning, you can run yourself dry of currency. You need a big pool of currency to start.
    3. Not suited for you gamblers out there. You're most likely going to run a low return on any watcher's eye you ID - don't believe that one mega insane opening vid you've seen. You're not going to ID a 300ex jewel.
    4. Very repetitive. I was getting very over it by the 75th run, but I told myself I had to do 100, so I did 100!

    TO CONCLUDE (TL:DR):

Uber Elder can be extremely profitable if your luck is as average as they get. However, a slightly lower luck roll on your D20 and you might find yourself in a little bit of a pickle. Adversely, however, with a higher luck, you will rake in the rewards like Scrooge McDuck during a bank heist. So, all in all, it's up to you!

DISCLAIMER: All prices are, obviously, from the time of writing. I have no say in whether prices will go up after I release this, or whether more people will try to farm him. Be careful out there, Exile.

And that's it! Thanks heaps for reading, and I hope the information has been both enlightening and entertaining. If the mods will allow (i know we have a past guys but I've been good!) I'd just like to quickly say that I stream most nights at twitch.tv/thisisbadgergaming. I aim to bring super interesting content like this more often, but I will be sparing with my posting here on reddit, as I don't want it to be taken the wrong way. Cheers to you all!

Awakened Gems have seriously increased my retention this league

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:54 AM PST

Each league I usually complete 36/40 challenges and stop after a month because I have mostly upgraded my build and the upgrades I could do aren't always clear. With the awakened Gems I have clear goals to strive for to upgrade. On top of that once I get them I need a ton of xp to level them up. This drives even more gameplay and a clear path to increase power just by mapping. These were a great addition, thank you GGG.

Path of Exile's Unique Monsters as D&D 5e Monster Stat Blocks

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:32 AM PST

I am a long time player of both Path of Exile (bought into the beta) and of D&D (Been DMing the same group for almost 3 years now) and I love to make Content. I was sick and also not able to really sleep for the past day or so and this is how I spent my time. Creating D&D 5e monster stat blocks for Path of Exile's unique monsters. I've gotten to Brutus, ironically where most new players tend to quit POE or so I'm told, but I do plan on going as far as I can. Not sure how I'd really handed the real end game bosses as I've only killed Atziri once or twice and have never fought regular Shaper, much less Uber Elder and the new guy. However, I've decided to share my work up to this point with you all to get some feedback, and some grammar/writing/formatting corrections, on my work. Also feel free to use these monster's in your games (No guarantees they are balanced though :))!
