"BladeWave" BladeStorm + Lacerate + Shockwave Varunastra

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:19 PM PST

Hey guys, ive been itching to share my "BladeWave" build that i've theory-crafted around a mechanic that i'm not sure if anyone has found out about yet. I recommend having LocalIdentity PoB fork to see more accurate Impale DPS.

    --Premise--

Bladestorm typically requires sword. Shockwave typically requires mace. These two normally wouldnt mix otherwise. However, with Varunastra unique ability of it counting as all one handed weapon types the gems adopt this as well. Leading to you being able to socket Shockwaves on abilities otherwise wouldnt be able to.

I picked Bladestorm + a 4L Lacerate. Essentially each storm gets the shockwave effect too, so you can stack 3 storms that all get shockwaves attached allowing you to double stack storm damage and shockwave effect that has a CD of 1 second but goes off each second of your 3 second storm. This gives you EXTRA CLEAR from the added overlapping AoE :D Throw down 3 of these bois and your totems/banner in blood stance then start lacerating away while dropping storms. Its a fun play style and abuses shockwaves damage multiplies with the swords and the pathing in tree.

The only real thing is damage mitigation, we only have fortify 10k armor w/ flask , some evade, and some block. We rely on leeching and a large 7k+ hp pool with 2k steelskin. So change it as you see fit.

    ---Stats--

(Buffed w/ Flask, Banner, Totems, Auras)

    Bladestorm 1.4m DPS
    Storms 720k x 3 =2.1m DPS
    Shockwave 3.5m x 3= 10.5m DPS

    Total Shaper DPS = 14m

    ---Gem Setups---

    6L: Bladestorm + Shockwave + Impale + Pulverize +Brutality + Bloodlust
    4L :Lacerate + Shockwave + Impale + Fortify
    3L: Blood & Sand + Flesh & Stone + Maim
3L: Vaal Ancestral Warchief + Spell Totem + Vulnerability
4L: Phase Run + Blood Rage + Dread Banner + Increased Duration
2L/2L: Cwdt + Steelskin / Leap Slam + Endurance charge on Stun

    ---Items Required---

    Dual Varunastra Blade

    ---Items Reccomended:---

Hyrris Truth Amulet, Belly of the beast, Lions Roar, Diamond Flask, Rares with added Phys damage+ Max Life & Resis + Phys leech Mods

    https://pastebin.com/hxd8FZb1

** I made a similar dex stacking build when Bladestorm was released , so i know the mechanics check out, but this PoB is much stronger than the one in the video testing below
**Heres an example of a weaker version i made with similar mechanics

What spell has the best damage with minimal investment?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 02:23 PM PST

My idea was to make the tankiest mofo with max block and all the 'retaliation' skills (vengeance etc) This is so i can go open the front door at work if needed, or put my kid on his potty when it's urgent. But i realise that, while this could be good for thrash, my boss, rare enemy killing speed is going to be under tree-fiddy... I'm looking for a spell/skill that would be the best dmg (preferably a 4link) for minimal investment... I know rf is nice and it would fit the theme of not having to press a lot of buttons. Thats not quite minimal investment (or am i wrong?)

I also played with the thought of animate weapon (having 50of them will eventually kill everything) and with the new blade skill mehanix that could work. Are there any skills that i might have overlooked? Peace

Build ideas for the upcomming league

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 05:38 AM PST

Hi! I'm an intermediate PoE player, and I usually go with what I call "my own" builds, which are mostly not so original builds with some parts stolen from forums or poe.ninja. I've only done spellcaster build one or two times, so it's hard for me to think of something for the upcomming league, especially while I have so little time for PoE at the moment.

I'm very interested in new "mana-based" gems and would love to do my first energy shield build. Any pre-patch ideas would be appreciated, and you are also welcome to share your plans for the league!

    Opinions on these league starters?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 05:14 AM PST

So I got myself a decent pc earlier this year, dipped my toe into metamorph for a little bit. Before that I hadn't played since around Harbinger, I think.

I'm trying to pick a starter that has a decent balance of clearing and bossing, but above all is cheap and safe.

Leaning towards Skeleton necro if they're still a good choice next week, but otherwise these are the choices I'm interested in:

    Cyclone Slayer

    BV poison assassin

    Toxic rain selfcast/mines

    Pyroclast mines

    HoAg guardian/jugg

Note that among other things, I chose these because they're skills I've never played (in most cases because they didn't exist).

Can people share their thoughts on these options?

    CI Wand+Shield Occultist

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 04:14 AM PST

    CI Wand+Shield Occultist

    Hi,

I'm currently working on a concept (until Patchnotes hit) for Delirium HC that seems impossible and need some input.

    Defense:

I will go with CI, ES on Block shield, Glancing Blows, Curses (Enfeeble, Temp Chains, Warlord's Mark, Poacher's Mark)

    Offense:

6L Spellslinger Setup, 7 Power charges, Rare Wand/Void Battery, Skill not sure yet (depends on Patchnotes), Curses (Elemental Weakness, -Res Curse base on my Damage attribute, Poacher's Mark)

The idea behind the many curses is that I will most likely play a two-man party with a Mana Guardian and I was looking for a way to replace a Cursebot while still having proper damage. (Which is where Spellslinger Trigger comes into play)

    Curse source: Total
    Default 1
    Malediction 2
    Whispers of Doom 3
    Awakened Curse on Hit 4
    Chest craft 5
    Amulet corruption 6

I would slowly work myself up over the span of Delirium. Also, obviously some curses are overkill.

Where would these curses come from?

    • 4-Link Curse on Hit setup: Wand Skill (to trigger main 6L Spellslinger Setup) + Curse on Hit + Curse 1 & 2
    • Wand with -Res Curse on Hit
    • Ring with Warlord's Mark on Hit
    • Ring with Poacher's Mark on Hit
    • Ring with Elemental Weakness on Hit
    • OR any of above Curses through Corruption

Now there is also the topic of Auras. Here I would have to go with two different approaches.

    1. I'm solo and need at least Discipline
    2. I'm duo with a Mana Guardian who focuses on Auras.

If I don't have to reserve mana for Auras I thought about going with the new Archmage Support and Arcane Cloak, as well as Mind over Matter.

The idea is that the build should really shine in the duo set up while still being viable alone.

Also, I want to keep ~15-20 Points open for potential Jewels.

My two problems currently are 1. get all Power Charges 2. Whispers of Doom. Both require quite a bit of pathing which pulls me away from ES/Damage nodes. If I then also include Block I start to lack damage.

One option would be to forget about the entire block approach (which I would dislike for HC) and to Anoint whispers of doom.

    Questions:

Am I trying too much and is this actually stupidly impossible?

Do I need to scale up Wand damage to get the full benefit of Spellslinger? Or should I just focus on Spell Damage? (The entire concept builds around the "Apply curses via Wand Attack -> Trigger main Spell" idea)

EDIT: Also it would be really nice to integrate Conduit to provide freely Endurance Charges (Warlord's Mark) to the Mana Guardian. Least priority obviously.

Edit 2: In which order apply curses assuming I do 1 Hit which is linked with Curse on Hit and all other curses come from Mods on Hit. Does the "Curse on Hit" go first or does it go in order of Item slots? Because if the +1 To max Curse limit the Awakened Curse on Hit offeres gets triggered instantly my total Cap is lower than expected.

    Need help narrowing down starter

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 09:50 PM PST

I think i've narrowed down my starters/plans or w.e. I would like to point out that i will most likely just play one character this league and most likely respec unless it's too much money or if i end up loving the build..for these builds I wanna know which one would scale best to end game since I wont really have time to start over and try another one.

Since i played Toxic rain, scourge arrow and cobra lash so far I have in mind: bane pop occultist(idk what u can respec into this the playstyle looks satisfying tho) Blade vortex poison assassin or self cast purifying flame(then possibly respec to two hander CoC build) Bleed blow gladiator( or fuck it give melee a shot again played frostblades 3.7 3.8)

I really wanna try my hands at a tornado shot or CoC start build but from what i understand there's a lot of investments needed for it to work. And my goal this upcoming league is to actually feel the real end game(capped at lvl 93 this league)

How to properly scale a CoC build?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 01:31 AM PST

So I have been playing for a few leagues, and I've always played Melee, and in PoB I always just get some weapons equipped with the preferred affixes and leave the rest blank.. This is because I always play SSF and I wanna PoB the bare minimum DPS I can get with some okay weapons

Then I configure everything to Shaper and realistic boss fight damage, always turn off Cooldowns such as Warchief/Berserk/Vaal skills etc, and aim for 600k+ Shaper DPS without all of that

And that has worked really well for me so far.. BUT, now I wanna play a CoC build for the first time next league in SSF, and boy am I doing something wrong.. I absolutely can't get a spell to scale high no matter what I do, I'm glad if I even manage to break the 150-200k shaper dps mark

Here's a quick PoB example that I just made to showcase this, this is not a build I'm interested in doing - https://pastebin.com/HwAqbgXz and I know I can boost the dps with more single-target oriented gems such as Ele Focus/Conc effect but I'm trying to see the potential without gem swaps for singletarget

Now that tree has 200k Shaper DPS ungeared except for a staff, no Vaals, no flasks, no Power charges

But I still feel like that is really low, is it not? And if I were to try and do a CoC build it would lose 2x support gems, and I'd have to scale crit chance like crazy (probably would go Assassin for that tho) but I absolutely hate starting at Shadow/Ranger

But yeah.. don't go easy on me with the criticism, I really wanna learn how to properly do a spell dmg build, preferably a CoC

    Thanks!

Note that I made this tree for Hardcore purpose as well, hence the massive life %

Crab set Bleed Bow Gladiator with decent ehp, clear speed, and single target. (meme build kind of)

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 11:20 AM PST

Wanted to do a bleed gladiator that utilised the volleyfire/Arrow Nova interaction, fell on the crab set chest and decided to have some fun so i took all of the gear pieces of the set for maximum lulz.

DISCLAIMER : This build is purely theoritical, i haven't tried it, so please correct me if i do mistakes, i'll greatly appreciate it. Also I only started the game on Metamorph league, so my knowledge about the game isn't really huge compared to what many of you have.

    POB Link : https://pastebin.com/fy5p4AxC

    Numbers in short :

    • around 3 to 4 Million shaper dps with the crab set for single target, you could get way more out of this build by replacing a lot of gear pieces and optimising the stuff with catalysts, essences and stuff like that.
    • 1M shaper dps with the barrage setup, we use this for clearing the map combined with a 10.8s blood rage and 9.8s phase run uptime, we should end up with a decent clear.

    • For defense we have around 4k hp depending on gear choices and how you do your tree, around 20k armour with flasks which ends up giving +4k ehp with normal MS and 12k with VM. we have 75% block chance and 60% spell block chance with glancing blow and to make it safer we have 10% chance to blind on hit with barrage and puncture and 20% chance to do so with frenzy so overall, we're rather safe since very few things will be able to hit us or one shot us ( mainly chaos damage nukes :s ). And to top it off we have around 900 hp leech per second so even if a hit goes through you should be able to survive by popping a regular MS, or VMS depending on the situation and heal up really quick. (NB : I don't think a Life flask is necessary in the build due to the very high leech/low probability of getting hit due to the potential clear speed of barrage)

NOTE : I haven't done the build as i'm kind of lazy and don't have enough raw currency to craft and buy the different pieces required, so i'm not sure on what the best clear setup would be for the barrage links, i'm thinking of either going woke fork for maximum clear memes or mirage archer but i don't really know how the latter works exactly with this setup so i ended up putting it in instead of fork due to what's written on the wiki and the damage numbers on POB (i know they're not the most reliable way of knowing the dps as it can't account for everything).

Edit 1 : typos :) Edit 2 : How the fricking duck is bleed dps calculated O.O

Question about Blade Vortex League start

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 07:27 AM PST

So I haven't played Blade Vortex before and was thinking about running it as my league starter for 3.10.

Obviously patch notes could completely change things, but assuming no changes, what is the best build variation for league start?

I'm hoping to find something that feels good as a starter and can reach endgame early on in the league, but also has a high potential ceiling to continue to invest in as the league progresses?

Is poison Assassin my best bet? Or maybe something else?

    Thanks!

    SSF storm burst chieftain

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 08:30 AM PST

This is build that I thought up for my 3.10 SSF league starter.

    https://pastebin.com/LFch1meb

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: Storm burst is, to say the least, not a great fit for chieftain. Even with avatar of fire, we loose out on 25% of the base damage because we can't convert everything to fire. But there are some upsides as well.

    • Free spell leech for fire
    • Herald of ash is imba with physical spells that converts to fire damage
    • Easy access to duration nodes
    • Tanky for a caster with lots of life, life regen and blind from aura
    • No unique items required

The damage in pob states 290k (with a manual approximate fix for Ngamahu and with what I consider attainable SSF gear) which is, of course, nothing to write home about. But again there are some upsides to this.

    • The shock from skitterbots is not included and adds another 20% damage (15% + shock effectiveness).
    • With 105% increased duration each blast will strike a total of 6 times. That should mean that after channeling for 2.4s, the dps should be (if I understand storm burst dps cals correct, which mind you isn't easy) roughly 6 times the listed pob dps.

Any and all comments are welcome.

Ascendancy for Herald of Purity + Relics

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 03:53 PM PST

I want to play around with a herald of purity build and I'm having trouble deciding on an ascendancy. I'll probably start of with 4ex budget just to see if I enjoy it enough to push it further. I'm planning on the CwC cyclone variant with cold points. That being said I'm debating between necro, jugg, and champion.

From playing around in PoB it seems Necro has the best sheet dps because of the free +2 to minion gems & the minion damage in the ascendancy nodes. For defense I guess we are looking at bone barrier and mistress of sacrifice which seem decent for survivability.

For Jugg I could build the skill tree almost exactly the same so it'd just be switching the ascendant nodes. Because I can keep the tree the same in PoB it looks like the second highest damage, but still around 25% under necro. I feel like with unrelenting and unbreakable it'd be more survivable than the necro, but I don't know if it's worth the dps loss.

Champion would make me re-work the tree and put mores nodes from the top towards the bottom. I'd loose some of the minion nodes, but gain some nice fortify nodes and some extra life. It has the lowest dps in PoB, but PoB has no way to account for impale. I'd be going master of metal as well as inspirational for buffed up dread banner. Having not played with impale before it's really hard for me to tell how much of the missing damage this would make up from the necro version.

I'm honestly just leaning towards going necro like most people because I think it'd be the strongest, but I think it could be fun to play something a little different too. I tend to lean towards survibility over damage, but only too a point, not willing to give up a lot of damage for only a moderate amount of extra survivability.

What do you all think, how did each one feel if anyone has tried HoP on all these classes?

Discharge build idea with Spellsplinger, can this be fluid or feel too clunky to use ?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 09:08 AM PST

Discharge builds on Poe.Ninja use a stacking stat of "if gain power charges, instead gain max" and a CoC-cyclone to do discharges. I want to try a different take on it, as that way is expensive and "tried and tested".

The idea is to use spellslinger to be a charge generator for a self-casting Discharge, also to use spellslinger as a travel ability with LW setup.

Charge gain setup: Romira's Banquet -- Gain a Power Charge on Non-Critical Strike

Red Trail + Golden rule + Bleeding on wand OR Chance Bleed gem (This is a frenzy charge on hit setup)

RT - to prevent Romira's Banquet "Lose all Power Charges on Critical Strike"

(Optional dunno if needed) Badge of the Brotherhood for Max frenzy charges are equal to Max Power charges, for some dmg.

The idea is to have a wand attack (doesnt matter which) release like 2 set-ups of 4linked Spellslinger setups of 3 spells + Support gem. So each wand attack releases 6 spells, each spell gains a frenzy + power charge on hit. I use a movement skill or a setup of Spellslinger + LW to get in range and to self-cast a 6linked discharge.

Can this be a fluid action or will it feel clunky to accumulate charges for maxed out discharges ? Also will a Spellslinger + 3 identical spells setup still produce 3 charges if all 3 hit ? Thank you.

Toxic Rain miner - Trickster or Saboteur?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 10:39 AM PST

I'm leaning toward league-starting with Toxic Rain mines, but I'm having trouble choosing my ascendancy. CI Trickster is would be very tanky, especially with Wicked Ward + Soul Strike, and scales TR's damage well through duration and DoT damage. On the other hand, Phase Acro Sab isn't exactly a pushover, scales TR damage with AoE and minelaying speed, and seems to have better QoL for the mine playstyle. Anyone have an opinion on this choice?

Edit: No longer holding belt in off-hand. (Fixed name of Soul Strike quiver.)
