Path of Exile Builds What do you think about the nerfed Glancing Blows?

What do you think about the nerfed Glancing Blows?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 02:05 AM PDT

I did the math on it:

    BEFORE:

    Average damage taken with capped block is 62.5% (.75 * .5 + .25 * 1 for when you block and don't block).

    AFTER:

    Average damage taken with capped block is 73.75% (.75 * .65 + .25 * 1 same calculation as before).

On average that's 18% more damage taken. The thing to take note of is that Glancing blows is meant to reduce the chance of being oneshot. In the worst case (where you don't block), you don't take any more damage than with pre-nerf. If you do block, then hopefully 65% damage is still low enough not to be oneshot. In this case Glancing Blows is a strict benefit, because you reduce the amount of oneshots you take.

For me, it's more about how often I get oneshot than how much damage I actually take, because most other damage can wuickly be regenerated, so the calculations above aren't as meaningful as they seem.

I think it's still worth it for any build that can only get up to 40% block. At some point you have to consider whether the extra block chance is still worth it though. Another thing to consider is that this is immensely useful for spell block, which is much more difficult to get otherwise.

TL;DR: Probably still good in my opinion

Deciding between bleed bow gladiator and golemancer as league start.

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 08:19 PM PDT

I have played miner of different variety and DOTs based ed/cont, toxic rain/caustic arrow as league start past few league and grown tired to the play style.. My definition of league start is to push to red map T13 with little to no investment and possible to transition into a dedicated boss killer with investment..

So far i have already prepared for bleed bow gladiator which seems like a good choice of decent clear speed and strong single target.. yet it still requires some amount of currency to actually push to endgame by crafting the elder bow... I have done some research, seems like a viable choice with very cheap gear until red maps, probably another 10 to 15ex investment to sail smoothly into endgame bosses. Bad thing abt bleed bow is the not so great survivability and even poorer life regen after enduring cry nerf..

Suprisingly golem did not get into the nerf radar.. never actually tried golem build before but seems like a very strong build for boss killing.. done a bitof research, the price of the anima and three primordial stone are quite expensive.. many ppl in forun seems to have interest into golemancer this coming league so i expect the initial league price of these stones gonna hike quite a bit.. the initial high price of making golemancer in which i expect the stones alone would cost around 5ex, gonna set me back from progressing the atlas before i make enuf money to gear up... but once i got pass the initial gearing, probably another 10 to 15ex, boss killing would be much easier with much better survivability than bleed bow.. What do u all think? I m now a bit more bias towards golemancer, should i just make a generic necro for leveling and slowly transition into golem later?

    supports for Glacial Cascade Mines

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 02:07 AM PDT

I've been thinking of adapting PathOfMathh's BL miner build from last league. I'm going to replace BL with GC. His build utilises Tremor Rod so it has blast chain mines built-in.

What GC supports would you recommend for mines?

Did i went too far with the tankyness? (Creeping frost/Cold snap Ascendant)

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 05:58 PM PDT

Did i went too far with the tankyness? (Creeping frost/Cold snap Ascendant)

So after reading the balance manifesto i had to change some things on my pob for the endgame version of my leaguestarter, and out of curiosity, went in the search for "tanky" builds. Then i found out that is rare for a build to have more than 100k eHP (after res/avoidance/block/dodge), and they are claiming to be tanky, so im wondering if i went too far with the layered defenses.

I really wanted to do a tanky build, but maybe Elemental ailment/bleed immune, 78% evade, 71/69(75 if hit recently), 75 block (with mistwall, 38 if not), 21% phys reduction, 75 ele res, 89 Chaos res (with Glorious vanity nerfed at 5%) was too much. Also without Glancing.

Oh and 3.3m dps combined without vaal RF/cold snap.

Hope anyone can clarify when its too much tankyness, i just wanted to not be oneshot for real.

https://pastebin.com/TLKZb2zi Just to clarify: Its a total endgame build which i aspire to get this league before it ends.

    Soulwrest builds?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 01:10 AM PDT

I was thinking of doing a Soulwrest build based around the following...

    Items

    • Soulwrest (Summon phantasms)

    • Queens Hunger (Offerings)

    • Devouring Diadem (Feast of Flesh every 5 seconds)

    • Siegebreaker (Minions leaves caustic ground on death)

    Skill Tree

    • Minion Instability

    • Lucidity

So, utilizing Cyclone i use cast while channeling to cast Desecrate at 0 mana cost due to Lucidity while getting Fortify.

I have 10-20 Phantasms and Herald of Purity for additional bodyguards.

My minions explode on low health causing damage and leave caustic ground on death causing further damage.

It's basically a one button press build idea.

Has this build been done before, are there any good guides?

    Considering League Starters (Crackling Lance)

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 07:10 PM PDT

I took and modified Mathil's cold-conversion Divine Ire Necro build to for Crackling Lance. Why? Because I wanted to convert to cold and both (kind of) have to stand still to really deal a big hit.

Focused on cast speed by moving out of phys-conversion nodes, still have 94% crit w/ diamond. Gear should be mostly attainable, with the spell crit chest being most difficult (and diadem early). I don't move that quick anyway so I likely won't be into red maps until late day 3.

    https://pastebin.com/cQLaTuGB

POB uses storm call as a placeholder since it's a non-chaining, non-channeling lightning skill.

Icestorm mana build with the new cold Archmage?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 01:01 AM PDT

I was thinking about the new alternative quality version of Archmage with cold damage and if it could work well with Icestorm.

You could focus more in mana multipliers and defenses (MoM, Arcane Cloak, etc.) and less in ES than traditional IceStorm builds. Stacking INT in addition of damage you gain 5 base mana for every 10 INT.

I'm not sure about the ascendancy, maybe hiero.

What do you think, could it be viable?

What max-block build would you recommend?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 06:02 PM PDT

I've never played a build that cared about blocking, and I think the time is nigh.

Whats a good block-based build I should check out? BV Gladiator?

    No bleed builds plz.

Can I get some more feedback please? (an update to my previous post)

Hi everyone, firstly thank you all so much for your awesome feedback on my previous post!

    Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/inap45/could_i_please_get_some_feedback_on_this_build/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

I have made some updates to the build and was hoping that some of people here could take a once over of it again. I think I pretty much have it ironed out and would like for it to be my league starter (I don't think it will be too hard to gear, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking that I will level with EQ and then move into self cast BV before I am able to get the cyclone and CwC gems. I'm hoping I won't run into too many issues with this.

Bow build options for league starter?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 08:58 PM PDT

I love using bows. Ran TR and switched to Ice shot for harvest. Going into heist I wanted to try something different. So far I've seen scourge arrow and bleed glad. Are there any others that fit the style or are these just so tried and true it isn't worth looking elsewhere? Thanks!

Blazing Salvo+ Ngamahu Cyclone build+ Cast on Crit

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 08:11 PM PDT

I have a feeling this could be an amazing combination . I'm not someone who is well versed in creating my own builds, so I am looking for some help with theory crafting this.

Here is the original link to the Ngamahu+Cyclone build: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1819239

Also thinking that fork would be well played with this.

Trying to determine the best way to build this, is it Inquis self cast or Hiero totems or some variation of mines? Don't really know personally, I've theorized builds for totems and selfcast, but neither feels insanely good, would love to see everyones ideas about how to build it

Which builds benefits the most from an aurabot?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 12:03 AM PDT

    Hello,

I am looking for a good 2 player combo to start the league with.

my m8 will be playing an aurabot.

    Either https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2058058

    or https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2819938

Which kind of builds benefits the most from an aurabot? Does it have to be a physical damage build or does an elemental damage build work just as well?

I was hoping to start as a OoS assasin pivoting into a CoC ice nova as soon as i can afford a cospris.

I appreciate any help or suggestions :)

    Archmage Arc/BL Trickster - looking for feedback/advice

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 09:23 AM PDT

POB: https://pastebin.com/aJYrj3uT -- Use community fork if you have it for variable shock - I have it set to 10%. Obviously I'm not getting 50% shocks on bosses.

Here's some footage I recorded while trying to figure out this build

Arc clear seems really good, and BL single target feels good too. Also tanking a shaper slam and getting tickled by chimera. I've done a couple A8 Sirus kills but it's hard to hit Sirus with a stream of ball lightnings when he's teleporting around; I may switch Arc to storm brand for some more damage uptime in this fight.

EHP is around 7.5k - 10k depending on whether or not i'm using Healthy Mind and the 10%MoM watchers eye. Mana regen over 6k/sec with Patient Reaper up, and about 4k/sec without it plus a few hundred from the mana flask. I use the recovery rate watcher's eye most of the time since I very rarely get 1shot anyway and the extra regen is nice. Having the two mods together would be great but that would be like 50ex minimum.

Overall the build feels solid but I'm wondering if there are any obvious mechanics that I'm not taking advantage of. It seems like most people play Archmage as Heiro but I think trickster seems better for this gear and tree. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Bleedbow Glad without Assailum and Cluster jewel

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 06:53 PM PDT

I'm starting a bleedbow glad next league and I'm really not into the Assailum and Cluster jewel. So is there a way to make bleedbow glad viable (going sirus) without those items? If not, I'll probably have to go with Cluster since it's less of a pain than the Assailum

    Firestorm/Archmage - Hiero idea

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 03:59 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

i am trying really hard to find a good way to scale the hit damage of the new Firstorm skill. I have a few thoughts and want to hear your thoughts about it:

    1. Since the number of small firstorms is limited i thought, it would be a good idea to put out really hard hitting meteors - Would unleash be a good idea?
    2. Since we do not have the fastest cast speed, scaling Firestorm with crit is not a good idea, so i would go for EO
    3. Is it overkill to convert the lightning damage from Archmage/Arcane Cloak/Sigill of Power via Call of the Brotherhood > Cold to fire > Avatar of fire to fire dmg?
    4. I would love to use Sanctuary of Thought for the 100% inc AoE (imagine this with Awakened Spellcascade....) but is is counter synergetic with Archmage. - Would it be enough to scale Firestorm without Crit and Mana by just using Controlled Destruction/Elemental Focus/EO?

I would really love to play this as a starter but i am just not sure how to scale the damage/AoE of this spell properly. Any ideas?

How to transition from TR Miner into self cast TR?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 09:59 PM PDT

I'm looking to play Toxic Rain trickster this league and it seems like TR Miner is stronger at the start because you solve the attack speed problem but selfcast TR gets stronger later when you have high end gear. Since they both scale the poison damage I would think it would be a relatively smooth transition. Is there any particular complications in this transition or a dps or attack speed benchmark you should aim to exceed before switching?

Weird off meta cold arc occultist

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 09:05 PM PDT

Been playing around with some stuff in PoB and was thinking of running something stuipdly off-meta, depending on how things go. Wanted to try out how a power charge/CI occultist would feel. Chose arc because I like how the skill feels.

9 power charges (Without influenced gear/corruptions)
shock & chill on most hits (75% crit chance without diamond flask)
98% Lightning to cold conversion (this was mostly to add chill/freeze to the mix, nice QoL but not super important)

Would love to have some feedback, constructive criticism, how you feel about the build idea in general.

    Toxic Rain league start?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 08:32 PM PDT

    Hey all!

Like most people, I'm really torn on what ascendency to run alongside Toxic Rain. It seems to be a huge argument online.

Trickster seems to the most common on PoE Ninja and YouTube, with what I can see it has an easier time pushing content and gearing (Less item dependant), with Pathfinder having higher late-game potential with gear and more quality of life.

Has anyone played the two before? What were your thoughts?

Anyone have experience with Doomfletch Zerker?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 07:51 PM PDT

Saw this on Ninja and the DPS looks pretty impressive. Also the playstyle seems attractive. Also if there is a ele pen support gem then quite keen to do a doomfletch.

    https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds/char/DzikiGwo_89/DoomZerKerr?i=2&search=item%3DDoomfletchs-Prism

Never played a zerker before, my guesses at the above build is that it will do very good damage but get one shot constantly. Was thinking maybe of tweaking a few things and adding call to arms + enduring cry shenanigans? (assuming it doesn't get nerfed to the ground).

Trying to decide whether the above or wintertide occultist will be my league starter. Manifesto so far suggests these 2 at least won't be impacted too much.
