Anyone know who this #1 Necro is? They seem to be playing 24/7 some how. I played 18 hours each day to be top 10 but they're gaining xp for 48 hours straight.

    What's up with Global Illumination?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 09:07 AM PST

Something I think we've all noticed since being implemented is the fact that Global Illumination really eats away at your performance but what I never really considered until now is how much of an impact that has on the GPU itself.

I keep an eye on my system fairly regularly especially since I just delidded my 8700k to see how much of an impact that made on the CPU and noticed that whenever I played PoE it would go from high 50s and low 60s it often sees in other games to nearly 70c which I found strange. What I also found strange is that my PSU hit the 60c mark which means it goes from passive to active due to being stressed out.

Then I felt near the GPU and it was very apparent that this card is being stressed more than I've ever stressed it and that includes running it through Superposition Extreme to dabble with my undervolt and overclock.

My GPU will generally float around the 56-60c depending on load with a pretty generous fan curve. It too was encroaching 70c which is by no means hot (although in this case it's certainly an outlier) but I looked more in to it through HWmonitor and noticed it was nearing 350w of power which is 35w higher than I've ever seen it especially with the undervolt. This alone is somewhat puzzling.

Seeing as how it's power usage I knew the issue had to be internal so at this point I noticed GI was on so it was the first thing I turned off.

Turns out this one setting eats up to and sometimes over 100w of power and what's causing my GPU and maybe even my CPU to go far outside their typical ranges.

I cleared my monitoring software then shortly after I took a snap shot of it both on and off.

I understand that the card is being pushed more but what I don't understand is the difference I am seeing between it and Superposition Extreme which tops out at ~315w/60c as well as how this setting can account ~100w of power. I have a SF750 PSU so it can handle it but still, that's something else which rarely happens in other games if at all. Even if I throw a FPS cap of 110 fps the power will not budge.

It's kind of crazy. This is my system all tucked in to an NR200 although I'm not sure why it pegs the CPU temp at 65c.

Fresh starts make me miss the old atlas.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 06:42 PM PST

I just realized how much I miss the old Atlas where it was just play and shape some maps. Nowadays you literally have to farm at least like 16+ watchstones to somewhat reach endgame. This isn't easy and not intuitive for new players. The Atlas is PoE's core it shouldn't be gated this much. PoE used to be way more accessible and just easier to play overall which was more fun. There should be a survey if people like it more now compared to then.

Another flaw with the Atlas is that progression isn't shared in group play. So instead of experiencing everything "32x" you would have to do double the effort triple, quadruple (...) the same effort. This really frustrates me having more than 10k hours in this game.

My experience with Strike skills right now has been rather poor

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:46 PM PST

As someone who prefer melee-style characters in many RPGs I've played, I'm quite dissatisfied with strike skills.

As a Infernal Blow Hollow Palm gladiator, I've managed to bring it into endgame bosses for the first time thanks to the wealth Heist has given me. I've fought and killed Shaper, Elder, and Sirus with this build and is one of the few character I own to do so, since I always quit at around lvl85 and make another new build that interest me.

My main issue with Strike skills is uptime. Sure, on POB you could get over 2 millions of dps with it easily with a bit of investment but the main issue that all of these dps is nothing if you can't even hit the enemy.

This problem is most visible with fights with a lot of area denial like Shaper, Baran and Al Hezmin. On Shaper is the worst. I can't tell how much time I've wasted trying to wait for the vortex from the Riftwalkers to end and letting Shaper having that free heal, and is worsen by knockbacks from Lion's Roar which pushed the miniboss into his vortex and ended up giving me negative DPS because of lack of any sort of range. To be honest Lion's Roar always felt like negative dps on anyone that can be knocked back. Also when Shaper decided to teleport into a corner with vortex to start his adds phase there's literally nothing I can do except waiting for him to use his teleslam which again wasted more time and made the fight harder because more orbs would spawn.

On Baran, his "normal" barrage blast attack while is dodgeable if carefully timed, but if you messed up even a little you will end up getting shotgunned. I tried "simulating" fighting from a short distance, around the range of lacerate and slams and the window for maneuvering is much more lenient than it is to stick close to him.

It felt like every other melee skill could do more consistent dps than strike skills with less investment because of higher uptime alone. As a strike skill user I did not feel any "single target superiority" that's supposed to be in them.

Another thing is as a strike skill user it felt like I'm being exposed to more damage. Projectiles hit you almost instantly and less time to get out of an AoE attack.

For clearing, with Infernal Blow it is still bearable because of its explosion but it does leave a lot of stragglers sometimes and your clear speed would be severely affected if you're hitting tankier rares which in turn again expose you to damages from large surrounding packs. I'm forced to run melee splash just to clear evenly and many other skills can clear just fine without wasting a gem slot.

I feel like strike skills should be given more support nodes on trees or more damage effectiveness/multiplier on the gems to compensate for these weakness.

game lags after a while, problem with loading assests?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 07:52 AM PST

after some time (about a hour of gameplay) my game starts lagging at the start of every new zone, need to wait like 20 seconds till it's over. in those 20 seconds a lot of textures is missing like i don't see buff icons or monsters sometimes. im using noasync option but it makes no difference. game is fine after restarting
