Cyclone debate.. 2H Vaal ave w fortify or starforge.. which is stronger overall?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 12:15 PM PDT

Just curious, coming to the end of the league, for all those who have played any cyclone character... which is better.. ive seen foils which i know are amazing, but what about the vaal axe with fortify and culling strike or a starforge??

Which has higher pdps? Which would you choose?

Cyclone Cast While Channeling Soulrend -Trickster, Occultist, Scion, Pathfinder

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 11:21 AM PDT

    Cyclone CwC Soulrend + Bane

POB includes trees for Occultist, Trickster, Scion, and Pathfinder.

NOTE: Has a jewel in place for a Timeless jewel that changes Pain attunement and arcane vision.

NOTE: Changes Pain Attunment to Supreme Ego and Arcane Vision to 80% increased spell dmg.

NOTE: Trees are included in Pastebin: Occultist, Pathfinder, Trickster, Scion.

NOTE: The setups are not optimized for Trickers, Occultist or Scion. I originally made this build on a Pathfinder because I did not want to re-level a new character. It will work just fine on the others and can be optimized on them.

NOTE: You can do some interesting things with power and frenzy charges with trickers....

    POB: https://pastebin.com/H8GxU7tY

I can upload videos if you want, but my wife doesn't let me play that much.

    PROS & CONS LIST

    Pros:

One required pieces of gear: Staff with Cast While Channeling (staff with mods I needed cost 1 alchemy)

Damage can scale well with the investment

    Wonderful map clears

    Flask Heavy (pathfinder variant)

    Can run all map mods

    Good delve clears

3 Proven character variants each with their own positives and negatives

    2 Curses = Despair (flask+Bane) + Temp Chains (Gloves)

    Cons:

Requires fine motor skills from the mouse movements (I will explain later)

Single Target requires some unique movements (I will explain later)

Single Target DPS is weak with minimal investment

Watchers Eye Jewels are super expensive

    Can be squishy

Temp Chain map mods are slow

    SINGLE TARGET DPS STRATEGY

Cast Wither Totem + Bane on the boss.

You do not just cyclone in place to soulrend the boss. This will mean you instant death because you are just standing their casting soulrend. I learned this the hard way. Plus, it's hard to get into a good position with the soulrend going in the direction you want. It usually sprays in the direction you move. This causes the soulrend to fan out in the direction you want it to go. If you want, you can cyclone in place, but the soulrend sprays uncontrollably.

The correct way to kill single targets is to use a side to side OR up and down approach.

    Move through boss like this:

    Side to Side approach:

    step #1--cyclone-->Boss--cyclone--> Then step #2 <--cyclone--Boss<--cyclone--

    ~OR~

    Up and down approach:

    Step #1 Step #2

    AS A LEAGUE STARTER

The staff will not be around early league until people push maps. You'll have to rely on the standard wand set up. You can make this work on 6link where you have cyclone-Cwc-soulrend and soulrend supports, but the damage is weaker and will struggle with red maps.

Obviously, you cannot cyclone with wands. If only, am I right?

-Now, if you get a 6link tabula earlier game and want to switch to this jawn, when you don't have 6 link staff, you will use one of these weapons:

    1. Cane of Unravelling (stupid cheap earlier game)(No links needed since you'll be relying on 6link chest)

    2. Pledge Of Hands(No links needed since you'll be relying on 6link chest)

    3. The Grey Spire (No links needed since you'll be relying on 6link chest)

    4. Sire of Shards (The Projectile damage won't increase soulrend so this sucks, but it is good for nova)

-Sockets an earlier game 6link chest piece(2G/4B): Cyclone, CWC, Soulrend, Control Destruction, Efficacy, Swift Affliction

    PREFERRED GEAR

    Disclaimer:

Increased Projectile Damage doesn't do shit for the DOT of Soulrend.

Increased Area Damage doesn't do shit for the DOT of Soulrend.

Increased Area of Effect = Good (helps negate the nerf from 3.7)

Non-Ailment Chaos Damage over Time = Best mod for Fat DEEPS

If anyone says gear is ridiculous overpriced, get your head out of your buttocks. I paid less than 3 exalts to make this gear work.

PREFERRED STAFF(easy to make your own with Abberant fossils) MODS:

#1 Cast While Channeling (free up a socket)

#2 +level to Socketed Chaos Gems

#3 Non-Ailment Chaos Damage overtime multiplier (oof)

    Link: http://poe.trade/search/teritisinorina

PREFERRED HELMET MODS(easy to make your own with Abberant fossils):

Enemies have -9 chaos Resistance (Abberant fossil)

Craft mods Increased Area of Effect (helps with soulrend nerf that occured in 3.7)

    PREFERRED BOOTS MODS:

    Movement speed

    Resistance

    Life

Increased duration socket modified (if you are rich) OR Fortify Modified (if you are rich)

    PREFERRED GLOVES MODS:

-Asenath's Gentle Touch (good for clear speed - Cheap)

-Vixen's Entrapment (helps increase the damage of Bane- good starter)

-Rare Gloves With Non-ailment Chaos Damage Over time multiplier (good but expensive. Easy to make with Abberant fossils)

    PREFERRED RINGS MODS:

    Life

    Resistance

    Chaos damage (Abberant Fossils)

Craft mods (increased chaos damage and/or increased damage)

PREFERRED AMULET MODS(Elder base, + strength implicit):

Non-Ailment Chaos Damage over Time Multiplier (abberant fossils force it)

Increased Chaos Damage (abberant fossils force it)

    Increased Spell Damage

    Life (Abberant + Pristine?)

Beneficial Amulet Mods: increased Area of Effect, increased Damage while Leeching, Resistance

    PREFERRED BELT MODS:

    Life

    Resistance

    Chaos Damage

    Spell Damage

    PREFERRED JEWEL MODS:

Non-Chaos Damage Over time Multiplier = Must Have on Each Jewel (Most damage modifier available)

    Damage over time

    increased damage

    chaos damage

    spell damage

    spell damage with staffs

Eternal Timeless Jewel placed by Pain Attunment and Arcane Vision.

    1. Supreme Ego ("Chitus") replaces Paine Attunment (enhances Malevolence).

    2. Make sure it changes Arcane Vision into 80% increased Spell damage.

NOTE: I ended up buying 3 jewels before getting it. This combo gives atleast 100k DOT damage.

The alternative is (hard to get though):

#1Glorious Vanity that replaces Arcane Vision with Withered (would be a good damage booster, but not 100% worth it.

#2 Militant Faith utilizing "Gain Arcane Surge on Hit with Spells if you have at least 150 Devotion" this would be done best around the Flask Nodes by witch starting area. Should be able to get 150 devotion in that area to make it work.

#3 anything that boosts DPS lol

Off-meta build to end the league

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 10:39 AM PDT

This is my first League so I have been jumping around to a few different builds to see what I like and what I don't. I think I have a fairly good idea of what I like and would like to push for next League, so I am looking for something off-meta to end the league with for a bit of fun. Any suggestions for an odd build that is fairly budget friendly?
