    Simulacrum nerfed hard...

    Posted: 20 May 2021 06:25 AM PDT

So, i've been farming simulacrums the last two leagues as it was a pretty good source of income if you managed to clear all 20 Waves reguarly. Now this league, they nerfed the possible outcomes drastically: -no full breachstones -no blighted maps -no guaranteed league specific(wtf?) -no double corruped gems -talsmans nerfed (neglectable)

So atm you are lucky if you make your money back. Pretty sad if you consider how hard it is to win all rounds.

The Backstory to "The Shortcut" Div Card

The Backstory to "The Shortcut" Div Card

    https://preview.redd.it/9ms9wbgj8b071.jpg?width=381&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb6ea02ee91fca7b6915ea243da4865db965ad19

    Hey Exiles,

I am stark4machines or Chris Stark, and I created the divination card, "The Shortcut" along with GGG's design team. I had no idea it would be on front page Reddit day one of Ultimatum League and I definitely didn't think it would be as popular or as useful as it is. After seeing DCLara's "Dab of Ink" div card, I just knew that I wanted something like that with my favorite item in the game, the Quicksilver flask.

    BACKSTORY:

As I said above, when I first saw DCLara's Dab of Ink card (Poet's Pen), I thought it was amazing. My Path of Exile career began after losing a lot of my life and possessions, so seeing someone being immortalized in my favorite game and honestly, top loves of life, was incredible. I remember the instant a mob dropped her card in the Library map when I first started streaming PoE. I was so excited to clip my reaction and send it to her and connect with her through that card. DCLara, being the super energetic, passionate, funny girl that laughs a lot, made it all the more special. Years later the feeling solidified and I knew I wanted the same.

Every year on my stream, I make a... I guess you'd call it a New Years Resolution. With every new follow, the bot says "Welcome to the MACHINE @(your twitch username) - What is your favorite ASCENDANCY? Where are you from IRL? What is your goal in 2021?" and then I list my responses. I've had a different goal every year, and I am very fortunate and proud to have hit my goals. After the insane extreme crazy HYPE of Exilecon, I knew that 2020 was going to be the year that I designed a Div Card with GGG.

So I started the quest like you would when doing anything in Path of Exile, I emailed Support! :D (these team members are awesome, please give them love)

Middle of June, 2020, I told them I had the money (after talking to Mark and Chris about div cards at Exilecon) and I would love to purchase a div card design. Note to everyone reading this, these div card designs are so popular now, they are backed up and someone told me there's now a long waitlist. I sent my payment through their provided link using Xsolla like all the other supporter packs and MTX.

The process was like anything else PoE related, very simple screens with flat not-sexy UI. With div cards, the Exile is allowed to pretty much control (within reason) the item, name, and flavOR (murica) text.

    The item was the easiest.

I started PoE about 2 weeks before Essence league, the league that introduced Shaped and his four guardians, and not long after, the Quicksilver flask became my absolute, most favorite item in the game. With PoE, I found myself diving into the defense mechanics of the game, and my conclusion was that avoiding attacks all together... or not getting hit, reigned supreme above all else. In my opinion, and opinion for years now, the quicksilver flask was, and is, the best utility to help an exile... memes aside... not get hit.

I put it on every character. During the popsicle stick uproars, I was fortunate to have my Quicksilver on 4, so I could easily index the flask inbetween efficiently switching my three primary fingers for my other utilities during the CI meta, and life for 5 after it's 3.0 ultimate destruction. You can type !flaskmacro in my chat for a video of what I'm talking about. For those that struggle with piano flasking, it could be a game changer.

The item was easy because of time. The famous Izaro line "Wisdom is the offspring of suffering and time" rings true.

In all things Earth or universe or whatever we as humans know, I am intrigued the most by time. It's not something physical, not something I can hold in my hand, but it's a man made measurement. Out of everything I know, time is the thing that causes me to wonder the most about the universe, laws of the universe, or all that is out there that we simply don't know and spend hours dreaming about. I find it fascinating when I learn of certain quantum theories or physics mechanics how time is different on different planets. Interstellar touched on this a little bit.

So that combined with my previous life as a Hollywood Talent Agent, where all my mentors would beat into my head that my time was more valuable that any amount of currency in the world, I came up with the flavor text of "If time is the most valuable currency, how do you make more of it?" Well the answer was easy...

    Gotta go fast.

Now, me being who I am, I of course gave Mark (head of Lore and design team at GGG) a bunch of other over-explaining nonsense (5 different ways to make more time) to go along with it. He, being the master of fiction and insanely well read knew better and reeled me back in. The flavor text was simple, less was and always is, more.

The title was just as easy. Mark (he's the best) read my paragraphs of word vomit about how much I loved the Quicksilver flask, and offered two quick titles - "The Shortcut" and "The Courier." As soon as I read the two words "The Shortcut" I just knew. Being in a lot of bands growing up, it was the same exact feeling when a band name is randomly offered up and everyone just knows, it's not even a discussion.

And that's all there was to it.

I told them I knew I had no control over the artwork, but gave them hints of how big of a fan of the DCLara card I was, and told them pink hair was my twitch streamer signature and the artists went ham. I am so humbled by Shaun's artwork. I actually contacted him recently so if anyone has any questions for him, I can email and hopefully respond in the thread.

Lastly, I had mentioned to the team that I always thought of a quicksilver being extremely useful to Labyrinth runners and one of the best ways to counter lab traps, so I think that's why the balance team or which-ever GGG team decided to make the divination card drop in LABYRINTH RELATED areas (maps that look like lab, that map that has Argus as the boss, different maps that have trials inside the maps, etc). Poedb noted that the card does have the "labyrinth" tag.

Oh and someone from the design team just asked if I wanted to "ilvl 100" the item to "future-proof" it and I said, "sure."

I'm sure I've left out a bunch, I'm tired of writing this book tbh haha, so if any of you have any questions about me, the card, the process, or for the trolls, my hairline - please feel free to ask here, my stream, or in discord at stark4machines#9022.

And if anyone wants to find out more about me, my stream link is right next to my name, or you can google "stark4machines" and I'll come right up.

Let me know your thoughts on the card or any questions you have! :)

    Some tips about profitability.

    Posted: 20 May 2021 09:38 AM PDT

#1: When looking for a farming method, always make sure you understand the whole scope of it. If someone's advertising a 5ex/hr farm, but they're running 6 people with MF bots and 100% delirium instaclears with huge auras, they're going to go a lot faster than you trying to solo. Always figure out first if it's a group farming method that requires huge scaling to be fast or profitable, or if it's actually solo-viable. And know what scales with groups, and what doesn't! Syndicate service selling is not going to be any faster in a group, for example - but almost anything dealing with non-fixed drops will be bigger.

#2: Just about everyone lies about their profit/hr. Not always that they're making tons - some people massively understate the profit because they're only looking at raw currency or big ticket drops, and ignoring all the 5-100c range drops that add up quickly! And some people claim huge profits, but don't take into account that you'll take an hour selling all the varied little drops in poe's wonderful trading system. Or don't take into account having to continuously shop or roll for the required materials to set up the farming method, which can also be time-consuming. Be aware of how much you'll have to spam-message a dozen people to get one person to trade you!

#3: Be careful of profit conflation! Just because a map gives you 3ex on average does not mean that every action you took on that map was profitable. A very simple example is the meta Valdo farm - people say to roll for a Nemesis watchstone mod in addition to the harbinger stacking. However, the nemesis mod has a weighting of only 250, which comes out to around 500c worth of sextants on average to get one - and then another 10c or so for the map itself. You'd have to kill at least 130 valid (aka non-endless-survival/stone circle) rares per map and have them, from only the watchstone's 3 currency drops, average 1c per drop, which is a tall order given how many alts/trans/alcs/scours/regrets/jewelers/chromatics/fusings/vaals drop, and the actual rarity of ancient/divine/ex+ orbs. And this leads to my last point,

#4: Know your stats! If you don't know how likely something is or not, you will have no idea if something's actually profitable. If you think that item rarity applies to currency drops, for example, you might think currency farms get more profitable if you invest in a char with a ton of +item rarity - but they're not! If you don't know how many rolls it takes, on average, to get a specific prefix/suffix, you should use the crafting simulator to figure out how much it's likely to cost. If you don't know what the weighting on mods for content is, you should look at the poe DB to figure out the probability of getting a particular mod.

    Good luck farming out there!

Storm brand has a broken interaction with hydrosphere.

    Posted: 19 May 2021 11:46 PM PDT

I'm sure many people are aware at this point of how you can utilize hydrosphere with an orb of storms build to double your single target damage. Storm brand, at least on paper, works the same way. Both skills fire multiple beams with one beam going to the main target while a second beam goes to hydrosphere and then chains to the main target.

Unfortunately, with storm brand it doesn't actually deal damage despite visually showing a chain to and from the hydrosphere (not my video). Others have tested this with life gain on hit as well to confirm that they only gain life for 1 beam instead of 2.

I say this interaction is broken because we clearly see a visual indication that chains are occurring yet there is no damage from them. In every instance I can think of where you get a visual chain, damage is dealt.

It should either be dealing damage, or not showing a visual effect. Is there anything I'm missing with this conclusion?

Are Vaal Reliquary keys listed as a basic currency item?

    Posted: 20 May 2021 09:13 AM PDT

I've seen them considerably more often using the Nemesis sextant for currency and notice it dropping alongside the other currencies from those rare monsters so just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

    About the Pomeranian Pet

    Posted: 20 May 2021 07:56 AM PDT

    About the Pomeranian Pet

To preface this; I haven't bought it(yet) and i'm purely commenting on the visuals provided by the video, im going to be a bit nitpicky because my dog is a German Medium Spitz(Mittelspitz).

I know they probably chose this Name for the MTX because Pomeranians are probably way more known than any of the other Spitz variants(other variants differ in size and fur color, mostly), understandable from a marketing perspective, but confusing if you know a bit more about this dog breed.

    Anyway, here's my feedback.

    The Size

Unless the characters are tiny, the Pomeranian Pet is way too huge to be a Pomeranian. Pomeranians are usually between 18 and 24cm tall.

    Wolfsspitz(or Keeshond - 43-55cm), German Giant Spitz(or Großsspitz - 40-50cm), German Medium Spitz(or Mittelspitz - 30-40cm) would make a better fit, size-wise.

    Wikipedia

    The Tail

The tail usually lies almost curled on the back, usually only un-curls if the dog is relaxed and/or lying on the ground(sleeping) - In the video you can see that the tail shows almost straight up into the air.

Picture from Wikipedia, couldn't find a picture of my dog where it's visible enough.

    The Ears, Face & Fur

Sadly the Pomeranian in-game does not seem to have any ears(he does, don't worry), but on the first look it's hard to see because the Head is too fluffy.

In general, the head looks like it's a combination of Spitz-like characteristics and Poodle-like characteristics, showing very little of the actual face - Spitz dogs are fluffy, but usually on the body, meaning the face is very visible as seen in the picture above.

The fur is also a bit odd, it looks a bit too fluffy and kinda short.

    What to Fix

Mentioning it again, i'm purely commenting on the visuals presented in the video

    The Size

This can only be fixed by either scaling the MTX down(we don't want that) or by renaming the MTX, but as i mentioned earlier, the name for the MTX was probably chosen by popularity. No fix for this, i think.

    The Tail

It should definitely by lying on the back, it's a characteristic of the Spitz breed.

    The Ears, Face & Fur

Remove some of the fluffiness, show the ears and face!

It's a tiny bit similar to a lion's and his mane, only starting behind the ears.

The body fur would be a bit harder to fix, make it slightly longer and a bit more brushed to the back. It's entirely possible that it just looks short and almost unbrushed to me from the video as it's white on white.

Thank you for reading, i do hope there will be other color variants of this MTX in the future! I'd love to run around with a MTX that looks similar to my dog!
