Path of Exile Builds Darkness Enthroned, Stun Immunity, and getting to skip Unwavering Stance

Darkness Enthroned, Stun Immunity, and getting to skip Unwavering Stance

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 10:51 PM PDT

TLDR: Wearing Darkness enthroned, put 20% stun avoid + 10% stun avoid implicit jewels in = 52% per jewel. Be stun immune + random jewel stats. Take arcane swiftness/chest craft avoid stun/implicits on non-belt jewels to get 100% avoidance from one jewel and start using the other jewel for best stats or ailment avoidance. Save 5 points from Unwavering stance, making up for whatever stats else a real belt would give. Repeat for ailment avoidance implicits and rolls on abyss jewels. Be ailment immune.

So I've had a problem for leagues now: I like to play some casters, channel some spells, probably be hybrid or CI or MoM and not really have a ton of hp for stun protection, so I usually 'waste' 5 points past the very nice Glancing Blows/block section just for Unwavering Stance. I really don't want to play a non-stun immune character, especially when I'm doing stuff like channeling Stormbind into a mob's face. I've had a presence of Chayula in SSF before, but sometimes I really want to use Foible/gem neck. Stun sucks, but so does not evading. It takes away Flesh and Stone or any other blind as a defensive option. Random bits of evasion on gear don't work, nor enfeeble's accuracy debuff, nor did pre-nerf Jade Flask of Evasion give a cozy 40% evasion.

I found this completely by accident when I wore darkness enthroned and some jewels as the only belt I could equip on a new character at lvl 1 and realized the abyss jewel avoidance rolls went up to 20% (since 3.14 I guess?), and any harvest jewel implicit is multiplied by the +75% effect from the belt. The implicit rolls are pretty common in harvest and not that hard to hit a couple random avoid stun/specific ailment rolls on abyss jewels, regular jewels, and clusters. Tujen sells tons of 83+ abyss jewels that can have the best stat rolls on them, so I buy all his Hypnotic Eyes to reroll since spell damage is fine too.

Lets check the top end with best case jewels, say 40ES, +10 resists, 20 stun avoid, 25-34 cold damage with a shield, 10% stun implicit. Two of those with the +75% is 140ES, 35 All resist, 104% stun avoid, 103 flat spell damage. If that resist is Int, slapping that into my PoB is 100 more ES and 7% more damage than a max roll max catalyst bated breath. If its a triple spell damage jewel I show +20% damage from my belt slot. So I'm going to have far worse jewels than that, but the 5 skill points saved are more than going to make up for that. The bar is pretty low for jewel quality to be worth it with 5 extra skill points, mine just have one or two other relevant stats at middling tier and it's still better than some nuts belt Rog gave me.

This can be extended to ailment avoidance too. Since the rolls only do one ailment, I had to pick and choose and supplement, but I found a pretty low opportunity cost setup so far with my SSF gear:

Chest craft stun/ailment avoidance 20%, arcane swiftness for 20% Anoint elemental focus (or crystal skin but I don't have the oil) to 50% ailment/40% stun. 30% stun jewel in belt gets me to 92%, small stun roll on an abyss on my tree with good stats finishes that. Using a poor 12% shock avoid roll with no implicit in belt as my second because it otherwise has nice rolls, landed 10% shock avoid on Energy from within, and Insulated on a small lightning cluster to be shock immune. I happen to be trying Tasalio's sign as part of a push to enable trinity with a pure lightning spell (hey pob think's its more damage, its more damage, trinity is real good) and that has 50% chill avoid. Crafted freeze immune on boots. Those will probably be a Dream Fragments someday instead. Ignoring Ignite, using Mephod pantheon for some less duration, and an ignite removal flask.

There's a lot of ways to hodgepodge together 100% ailment avoidance but jewel implicits and being able to get huge chunks of a specific one on belt really helps. This will probably become more relevant next patch if they keep hammering at the full immunities and moving towards individual immunities. I could see like a cold occultist use this for ignite/shock and stun avoidance to swap Vile Bastion for Bloom/Malediction, a swap commonly done via Presence of Chayula.

This is pretty flexible, very SSF viable, and I'm sure a trade person could make some nuts belts...if headhunter didn't exist that is.

edit: You don't technically need the belt, it could be a Stygian + 3 tree jewels, but that +75% stats for two jewels turns out to be a lot of stat, probably worth those tree jewel slots being something else.

Sword build that makes sense around a damage as extra chaos weapon?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 11:34 PM PDT

What builds would work well with this wand?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 04:06 PM PDT

    Shattering Steel's been pretty fun

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 01:11 AM PDT

Gave point blank SS a go after Neato's video and it was fun enough I dumped ~40ex into a scion variant of it. I'm really happy with the build because the gear is offmeta and so quite cheap for what it does, and most of the upgrades are in affordable chunks. 5m dps/proj x whatever overlap seems realistically attainable by mid-90s. I think it's a solid all-rounder build, but mapping can be a bit slow compared to other builds since you've got PB and the range is crippled - still, it's p comfy. Keeping the ammo topped up is the most annoying part.

I leveled with LMP in a 4L, until I replaced it w crit strikes in the 6L.

    https://pastebin.com/XXhRFryj

I recorded a couple videos - they're not guides, just me doing 2 maps so you can kinda see.
I'm fairly.. midcore? idk not casual but scatterbrained / laidback af. You can see I'm only AW4 atm, lvl 88. I tend to just alch + go even if it's suboptimal. I haven't unlocked Sirus yet, but I did a few Delve bosses and red blights.

The first one is 2h with a Starforge. Starforge is really comfy, a bit of aoe, life, big thunky base damage, and phys can shock. It's also cheap cuz nobody uses it anymore. It feels much nicer for mapping than dw since you just dump a single large hit and move on, and you're not running out of ammo every 1.5s.

The second one is dw with 2 grelwoods. I had originally planned my vers of the build around this but as you can see you run out of ammo super fuckin' fast and it's awkward. Like you actively have to take care to not hold the button down or you jump into packs with 0 ammo. In that respect, pob's dps shouldn't be relied upon because it doesn't factor in reload time, and you spend more time reloading with a low-hit high-aspd comp. The average hit should be given more weight. But dw is super comfy on bosses since you can just dump and bounce around while it reloads. I also prefer 2h over +4 proj because the sound effect crash occurs with SS' multi proj overlap too (notably around prox shields, where sfx stack/overlap). It just crashes less for me on 2h.

I think it's viable as a league starter, but I would probably start Neato's build with BM + Mortal Conviction if so. It'll work just fine with a junkier 2h axe/sword. Disfavour, Terminus Est, idk. I used that lvl 30-ish axe with vagan's + culling until 68. Maybe not SSF friendly? Lord of Steel is practically req'd for QoL and the Fortify lab enchant is super comfy too.

    Gear Breakdown cost: https://harle.s-ul.eu/jjnpdtSl

Most of the $ is in the Pride Aul's + Unnatural Instinct. These are both 100% skippable, but then you need to pickup BM+Mortal, so it's a minmax thing I splurged on.

For the rings, I looked for good rings in the 1-2ex range, found none, and then looked for 4/6 rings that I could annul in the 20c range. 1/3 chance to get a good ring for 25c is def worth. mfw I annuled t1 int.

jewels - search - if missing 45+ int on 1 ring suffix, need 20 on tree + 25 from jewels. Also need 11% impale chance over 2 jewels, life %, optionally damage.

Gluttony vs Nomad - Nomad just way better I think (also can throw $ 2x corrupting for pride%), but Gluttony req'd if grelwood for damage consistency since +4 proj reqs you to get hit. The culling is kinda whatever. 2h chunk damage makes it so culling is only really nice to have for shaper/sirus etc, since it won't matter much for map bosses if you remember to press Sniper's.

Body - Doppelganger Guise - underused af and the destroyed on kill is great qol. Carries hard imo.

Maligaro's gloves - easy 300% multi, and because it's a unique ppl will vaal them, so it's relatively easy to get vuln in trade league, which gives a lot more ring flexibility.

Boots - since there's so many uniques we really need life/res, so these're a catchup slot. 80% avoid frozen, since 20% from tree.

Watcher's Eye - I just got a double purity one bc theyre cheap and you get ~45-50% chaos res and max 12% phys taken as ele, and being a softcore dodge build we really like both of those things.

Bear hat - was the cheapest one with fortify enchant and it seemed pretty okay.

    Misc

Sniper's Mark is huge dps and I forget to press it all the time

Since Pride has no reservation, we can link it to Arrogance for the aura% with no drawback.

If going BM/Mortal, swap hypothermia out of the 6L since no skitterbots.

Anc prot - maim - blind <- can swap blind for cull

overleech is awesome qol with VP

with chaos res capped, can use Forbidden Taste enchanted with "when you take a savage hit" for lazy healing too

Leap slam is nice since it stuns stuff at full hp

Replica alberon's Battlemage's cry Shockwave occultist

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 05:23 AM PDT

Replica alberon's Battlemage's cry Shockwave occultist

    Hi everyone,

Wante to share the build I cleared all content with in Expedition Hardcore league.

    PoB: https://pastebin.com/kvn7A1h9

    The Feared: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT8d9kwsRDw

The core mechanic of the build is getting quadratic scaling out of your strength, by getting both flat chaos damage from replica alberon's warpath, and increased attack damage through repentance + battlemage's cry. If you're not familiar with this method of scaling, there's a more in-depth explanation below.

A common misconception is that the % spell damage to attacks from battlemage's cry is tied to the exertion. It's not, it's part of the buff that battlemage's cry grants and therefore also works on skills that can't be exerted.

The build has a number of defensive properties that have made it highly successful as a hardcore build.

    • Unconditional attack block cap from the Iron Fortress unique body armour
    • 84/83/83 max resistances through triple lv23 purities with 20% aura effect, anointed flesh and soul of steel passive nodes.
    • 90% reduced shock effect (50% anointed flesh cluster, 30% pantheon, 10% jewel implicit)
    • 30% chill on absolutely everything + a few % extra slow from temp chains on hit
    • Fortify
    • 75% chaos resistance (very attainable due to 60% from occultist, and ~40% on mandatory uniques)
    • Respectable 5% regen and good leech
    • Cyclone is still nigh-unbeatable mechanically for staying on the move while dealing damage

I specifically want to call out shockwave support for being downright amazing on this build. Make sure you get a lv21 version for an extra cooldown charge.

Having the vast majority of your damage output tied to shockwave has 2 huge benefits:

    1. You have very significant up-front burst from having 5 charges of shockwave stored up. Uber atziri is trivial for example, deleting clone phases and boss phases alike instantly.
    2. 'DPS uptime' is far less important. As long as you can dip in to dump your shockwave charges every now and then, you're pretty close to maximum dps anyway.

The map clear is surprisingly good, thanks to this bad boy:

    Weapon-swap clearing weapon

While this type of weapon remains a solid 35% worse than replica frostbreath dps-wise, the mapping is miles better. While the 160% global aoe makes your cyclone radius shoot way up, the real mvp is the juice this brings to profane bloom. The pops chain on themselves due to the curse(s) on hit, making map clear surprisingly good for a relatively slow moving build. While a spell damage craft is about 3,5% more dps compared to the chaos damage craft, once again the clue is to scale profane bloom moreso than cyclone damage here.

To close out with some negatives:

Phys mitigation is somewhat lacking. The vast majority of phys damage is attack-based, so 75% attack block certainly goes a long way, but it's still not where i'd ideally like it to be. I've specced into imbalanced guard and taken some care to get my armour up, which is honestly not terrible, maintaining about 15% reduction in the worst case scenario (shaper slam). I might end up swapping a small cluster jewel out for enduring composure, and taking +1 endurance charge with 5% strength from lethal pride.

It has low movement speed. 2x quicksilver of adrenaline enkindled with increased effect makes it decent, but it certainly doesn't zoom (clearspeed is fine though).

HC economy is barren, and a lot of these items hardly exist. Str+int split personalities would be a massive boost to this character's power, and are completely unavailable. Good corruptions on some of the uniques also represent a substantial amount of power, corrupting/ double corrupting dozens and dozens of them yourself is exhausting.

    APPENDIX ON QUADRATIC STRENGTH SCALING:

Generally speaking, you can scale two axes by stacking strength. Increased melee physical damage, flat NON-PHYSICAL damage (replica alberons, brutus lead sprinkler, influenced mods). Both of these axes scale rather well, and can represent a very significant amount of damage with good investment into strength.

If you however get iron will on your character (currently only possible through Repentance unique gloves), you can apply the increased damage from strength to spells, which you can then apply back to attacks through things like Crown of Eyes, Battlemage's cry, phantasmal earthquake, wandslinger, kinetic bolt.

Battlemage's cry is neat in that you can scale the buff with buff effect, allowing you to multiply the increase to spell damage by over 200%.

Never been this deep into end game. Advice on my skeleton mage Necro going forward?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 10:41 PM PDT

Link: https://poe-profile.info/profile/Tiam_Kara?realm=pc MetridiumFour is the character.

So I'm doing all right. I'm one boss away from having eight watchstones. I might be able to get to twelve but sixteen feels unlikely. I've never gotten this far into the game before though so I might be underestimating.

The way I see it, I guess I just have to slowly upgrade my gear to the highest item level now? I feel like it's a mess. I think my gear is all right but it's all very messy. I don't think I have a single piece that couldn't be much better. But where to start?

I'm getting to the point where things are getting prohibitively expensive. A +1 minion gems wand with the trigger suffix, a +1 skelly/int gem level amulet, and a good pair of +2 socketed minion gem boots run multiple ex each. I have two.

And then there's the Devouring Diadem, which itself is cheap but would require an expensive reshuffling of items. And I think the helmet I already have is pretty nice. But it's probably my most immediately available damage boost (is it a big one?).

Should I just keep on trucking until I hit a hard wall and worry about it then? Right now my goal is just to get to 92 for my last few life nodes and one more jewel (it has max life and minion cast speed attack speed). Tier 10s and 11s this past weekend were doable but risky, although they were influenced by al-Hezemin so the chaos snakes probably just made it harder than they actually are.

But like I said I've never been this deep into the game so I'm bit lost. I think I did okay on this character this time around though, very proud of my huge progress this league! ✌️

wander build before transitioning into int stacker?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 05:13 AM PDT

Just for fun, I'm determined to play a wander from start to finish, eventually ending up at the meta (int stacker).

I'm currently level 65 (assassin). What variant of wander would give me the most bang for the buck at this stage until I get the int stacker starting gear ready? I leveled with kinetic blast and power siphon (for single target) trying to base it on lightning damage but it was pretty painful (low dps, even with a 400 (ele)dps wand at kitava).

Would just going for some glass cannon int stacker still give me the best results? With almost zero currency I don't think I'm getting anywhere.

    My proudest creation! Grim Volley

    Hi Everyone,

After investing 50ex into making this, the bow is finally done! a 710 PDPS masterpiece. I got really lucky, and hit the fracture on the 1st try, the Tempered orb on the first try, and it cost me about 15 ex in essences to get the T1 hybrid.

In your opinion, is this mirror worthy?

    EDIT

    It's T1 attack speed. 17-19% is T1, it's just a bug showing T2. WeirdChamp

20 ex explodey build ideas ?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 04:45 AM PDT

Hello, havn't played much and I have 20 ex (probably 25-30ex if I sell some gear) sitting around.

Wanted to play a convertion build with decent "explodey" clear, and good bossing.

I was thinking of an elementalist blade vortex with inpulsa, can't figure it out. (I tried some PoBs with 100% convertion, phys to lightning gem, or 60% synth+veiled gloves, wrath watcher's eye)

    Any ideas ?

Some advices needed with crafting soecific boots.

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 12:56 AM PDT

    Hey.

I'm on mobile at work, so no screenshot available. Stats on item:

    Prefix: Hybrid es/life

Suffix: +1 spectre, (asling) lightning+chaos res, stun recovery

Boots have 2 open prefixes. Ideally I'd like life + movement speed, but questions arise:

    1. can I craft Suffix Cannot be Changed and slam Asling or will it fail?
    2. Worth Harvest reforge prefix?
    3. Or as above, craft Suffix Cannot be Changed and reforge life or speed?

    Edit: worth mentioning I'm SSF.

With basics stuff and without flask active PoB give me 1.2 millions end game boss dps.

At my level (75 ) with my actual stuff i should have about 300-400K boss DPS based on this PoB but in reality i am very weak and struggle killing runic monster on T3 white map.

Maybe i checked too much box but with build i alway ignite + chill and shock (skitterbot) + ash + blind + perma frenzy + perma fortify + perma intimidate + fire exposure ... so i don't think i did a mistake here.

Reviving triple ChaosSlinger (ED + Soulrend + Contagion)

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 09:44 AM PDT

A long time ago... Triple chaos spellslinger was pretty OP, specially for clearing maps quickly. I played and loved that build. It got nerfed and people forgot about it...

During the last week I've been working on reviving this build. I just finished the campaign with it and surprisingly it did pretty good.

I'll keep playing this build in maps and possibly share my updates (I play SSF so it will take some time).

Please feel free to use my build and carry on my work, push the build to the limit and invest tons of exalts on it if you want. I would love to see this build optimized.

    PoB: https://pastebin.com/SVy42q5M

Essence Drain + Soulrend + Contagion

105k Total DPS inc. DoT - against monsters

72k Total DPS inc. DoT - against Standard Boss

    Edit1: PoB starting maps: https://pastebin.com/duYAGEkb

    Leveling overview:

    - From level 24 to 55 it did ok, nothing special. I forgot to put on Doedre's Tenure, it would've helped a lot more

    - After second Lab and getting Santuary of Thought (10% less mana reservation), I could squeeze more damage and along reaching some damage nodes, the DPS was pretty satisfying

    - One shotting packs, including rares (consider it's a DoT build, rares die in one hit but after 1 second)

    - Even with crap gear (and crap PC) this build feels very smooth to play. Hit and run.

    - Why Hierophant?: mainly because of 10% less mana reservation. Also because of +16% phys reduction, 10% damage taken from mana and free buffed Arcane Surge (+16% more spell damage affects DoT). The passive tree makes it easier to reach STR, DEX, INT requirements. Plus, why not, off-meta build.

    - Without Conviction of Power (4 endurance charges = +16% phys reduction), this build can take some hits, not many but a good bunch. If you shoot from distance, monsters usually die before they hit you.

    - We are hybrid with good life and ES regen/leech from the gems itself, despite being DoT specd.

    - Souldrend AI and range is way better than you think. Easy to kill white monsters two screens away.

    - Legion = Chef's kiss

Overall I think this build feels amazing for fast clearing maps and farm currency quickly. Will require a lot more investment for endgame content (which build doesn't after 3.15?).

I'm terrible at creating builds, so I'm very proud to finally do something ... "viable?"... We will see ;-)

Thanks! Let me know if you want to know more!

Detonate dead feels a bit slow

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 02:29 AM PDT

In guide there is pretty much no cast speed whatsoever.
