    I got anti-scammed yesterday

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 05:21 AM PDT

So I was quite drunk yesterday and someone wanted to buy an item from me for 3 chaos. Since I was happy and wanted to spread my joy I told the buyer, that it's for free. He then gave me 150 chaos, which I didn't want to accept at first but he insisted. One of the nicest interactions I had in this game, so jeah, spread the love <3

GGG's Microtransaction prices are literally insane

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 01:12 AM PDT

This is coming from someone who has bought 2 seperate 420$ support packs and tonssssss of other sets.

I can't agree with it anymore. You're no longer a small indie studio. The new armor set is 42$ with NOTHING ELSE.

I have a few questions about league start builds

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 10:06 AM PDT

    1. What is a league start build?
    2. Why do we need a league start build?
    3. What is the aim of the league start build?
    4. Till what level am I supposed to be playing that league start build?
    5. How much currency am I supposed to invest in the league start build?
    6. How far should I progress the Atlas with the league start build?
    7. What do I do when I fed up playing the league start build or I find something else I want to play?

Can we get mini boss pets?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 10:47 AM PDT

How cool would it be to be progressing through maps with your own mini elder or perhaps a mini maven by your side. Or even both. You could kill elder alongside your mini version of him and he could do some sort of special animation. This would be really cool and I could see them selling extremely well. How is this not a thing already honestly? Please make this happen GGG.

Thoughts on Random Loot vs Deterministic Crafting

    Posted: 03 Sep 2021 06:00 PM PDT

In Chris's recent interview with Ghazzy, Grimro and Tuna, Chris said a few things regarding random loot vs deterministic crafting that I completely disagree with. While listening to him speak, I had the impression that my perspective and others like me hasn't been communicated in such a way that it resonates with GGG. This post is just a couple of thoughts that I'm hoping make it to the right people at GGG so they can better understand the perspective of players such as myself.

    First those quotes from Chris:

    • It's a better experience to find stuff through luck.
    • We just have to note that, fundamentally, it [deterministic item acquisition] is a less exciting thing for you to make progress towards.
    • It's like everyday I walk on my treadmill for a few hours. I've got to do it to stay healthy. I hate it because it's just boring; it's not exiting, right.

This is such a big problem - he compares deterministic crafting to walking on a treadmill. I totally agree that walking on a treadmill is awful and boring, however I hard disagree that this is the case with item crafting. I view crafting an item as an act of creation - of making something, not as a necessary but unenjoyable slog.

Let's imagine that we have a raffle. You're entered for the chance to win a nice log cabin in the mountains. And you win. Imagine the excitement and enjoyment that comes from winning. Okay, great. Now let's imagine you building that cabin yourself - cutting down the trees, laying the foundation, etc... Imagine completing the cabin and standing there in front of it - the sense of satisfaction and pride you have in the thing you built yourself.

To me, this is the essence of a found item vs a crafted one. A found/bought item can NEVER be as satisfying as one I made myself.

Let's take the metaphor a little farther.

Imagine you have all the parts and pieces for that cabin in a big bag above the ground. You open the bag and drop all the stuff on the floor - and wow, a miracle happens. It all randomly falls into place as your perfect cabin. Again, compare that to having actually built the cabin yourself.

This is chaos or fossil spamming vs deterministic crafting. Even if I hit a super lucky roll, it will never be as satisfying as the thing I carefully planned and constructed.

Bear with me just a little longer as I finish with this metaphor.

Imagine your vacations to your log cabin. The one you won vs the one you built. I can imagine the joy at being so lucky as to win a cabin, an immense feeling of gratitude. Personally, I think that would pale in comparison to the pride and satisfaction of enjoying the thing that you built. For me, it's the same with playing on a character with items I crafted. There is still some satisfaction in playing a character where I grinded the currency to buy my items, but it's not as strong as a character where I crafted them from scratch.

    Conclusion

There are loads of people who will disagree with me and say that crafting does feel like a treadmill - it's not fun. And that's totally alright.

Most people buy their dining table, but some people enjoy woodworking and make their table themselves.

I think that maybe GGG is undervaluing the enjoyment that comes from building something yourself vs getting lucky and finding it or buying it. There is a reason that I want to play PoE instead of slot machine simulator.

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating for the removal of random or RNG - like I fill up a progress bar like XP and when it's full, out pops an exalt. Randomness and RNG certainly has it's place, but I disagree there is something about deterministic crafting that is inherently less satisfying or enjoyable than getting lucky and picking up an upgrade off the floor.

TL;DR In the same way a craftsman finds satisfaction in a thing they built themselves, crafters can find satisfaction in an item they made as opposed to found or bought.

    Edit 1 - For clarity and grammar/spelling.

Edit 2 - Based on the comments below I feel the need to clarify that I'm not saying that everyone prefers crafting an item to finding one. I'm saying the assertions that Chris expressed as universal, are not. You don't need to leave a comment saying something along the lines of "I don't it's more fun to craft" or "The process really isn't that fun though" or some such thing. That's a valid opinion and if I had to guess, the majority one. But HOLY SHIT - you clearly aren't part of the group that I'm advocating for. I didn't say Chris is wrong because EVERYONE prefers crafting. I'm saying there is a portion of us that prefer making our own items so the idea that "It's a better experience to find stuff through luck" shouldn't be used as a universal design principal in regards to GGG designing systems for item acquisition. Which is where Chris said it. In his list of principles that govern GGGs philosophy on items. That's all I'm saying guys. Chris presented an idea as a fact and I'm just saying "Yo, that's actually just an opinion because I enjoy the opposite." /rant

What kind of power would implicit movement speed on boots bring?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 12:40 PM PDT

As GGG is facing a difference of opinion in the development of poe with its community, I'd like to bring this suggestion up once again.

Too often a pair of boots is gated by the not having movement speed on boots. You can have amazing rolls in 3 t1/t2 res and life but if it have no ms it's reserved to being vendor fodder. You can craft ms on the boots, but it just feels bad if you don't have the higher tier crafts or you desperately something else crafted.

Movement speed is surely a quality of life mod, but nowadays it feels mandatory. If some of the power of the ms mod is moved to the implicit, there would be less of a feel bad when picking up a pair of boots on the ground. As for being affected by corruption and losing it that way, the implicit could be hidden and unremovable by corruption. GGG is not one to shy from obtuse mechanics.
Thoughts? Personally i think this is too QoL and is unrealistic for CW's vision.

    Algorithm generated patch notes

    Posted: 03 Sep 2021 01:38 PM PDT

A while back GGG would post markov based patch notes using the unreleased patch notes as the input. I thought these were pretty funny and so I decided to make my own simple text generator.

Here are some of my favourites that it produced:

    • 100-150% increased Effect during effects (previously 20-30%).
    • Strength/dexterity Skill Gem - Summon Reaper: Summons a bug where modifiers could cause duplicate rooms to Ignite for 4 seconds.
    • Fixed a chance.
    • The Haemorrhage Notable now be unreachable.
    • The Brutal Restraint Timeless Jewel granted Damage over Time Multiplier if you had a Divine Orb.
    • Mine was not very beneficial here.
    • Fixed a bug where mini life bars were able to stop using incorrect animations when equipped, could not warn you.
    • Fixed a later patch.
    • White Beast, you reach 24 challenges, you are now spawned with a bug where Queen's Demand would deafen audio for you.
    • Jade Flask now has 8-12% increased Effect of Lightning Spells triggered by Mjölner which now grants a black background.
    • Cry: Performs a bug where Lacerate is too harsh.
    • Moving faster than those in an in-progress match now stacks, but they're not working.
    • The Rotgut unique flask now grants 20% increased critical strike chance to the visuals.
    • Explosives around you were spawned in that granted increased Movement Speed.
    • Skills were missing mana voice line when equipped.
    • Warcry Microtransaction effects have 5% increased Damage.
    • Ward protects from kill with Control-Shift-Click.

Newcomer With Few Equipment Questions For Witch Class.

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 10:48 AM PDT

Hello! I started playing yesterday and I already am enjoying the game. Took me a bit to realize how support spells work but got it in the end. But now I come here because I have questions like the following:

1.- having +spell damage as trait on a wand affects all of my spells? Even the ones that arent equipped on the wand itself? Is it the same with any other trait like +elemental damage?

2.- Leveling up, I realized that in the passive skill tree, there are crit chance/damage multipliers for spells. And since I cant really see how much crit chance do I have for my spells, I wonder if its a good investment or not. As well as wondering how crit chance for spells work like. IE: If I have a wand on my main hand that has 6.0% crit chance, does that apply to all of the spells equiped in that specific wand? And if thats the case, then what happens with the ones that I have on armour equipment like helmet/boots/etc. Or if I remain incorrected then I would appreciate some guidance on it!

Edit: Forgot to ask this question; 3.- What should I be focusing on equipping? What kind of armour? I usually have been getting stuff that increases energy shield and that has blue sockets on it just because most of the gems that I find useful are blue.

Thats all! TIA! and apologies for making too much text to read! guidance on it!

My opinion on difficulty and lack of defense in current poe vs other arpgs with a focus on bossing.

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 01:41 PM PDT

I have played arpg games since Diablo 1. I put thousands of hours into d2 and Grim Dawn. I have played every game of this type ever released even the small titles like Victor van and van helsing. I have played poe more than any of them.. I have 40+ level 92+ chars and even level 100 chars. I have played since closed beta and played a huge variety of builds.

My take is this. The main issue with poe is the absurdity of the damage of both players and monsters and the necessity of that damage created by the poor design choices especially on bosses. Their solution seems to be immune phases and 1 shot risk with the lowering of base line damage while still allowing most players who get to end game the ability to melt any boss in seconds.

I was disenchanted with 3.15 because this in my eyes was the absolute wrong way to fix power creep. But after a week of my friends nagging on me I gave in and have played 2 chars spectral helix to 95 and hallow palm ice crash to 94. Both have taken down Uber elder and maven.

Then just tired of the grind and went to give Wolcen and Last Epoch a play through. While they are vastly different in many ways something that really struck me especially in Wolcen was the boss fights. They felt like fights not a struggle to avoid even being looked at by the boss less I be 1 shot or scale up my dps to kill them in less than 5 seconds before mechanics can engage. I could take a few hits, have a chance to learn from my mistakes and adjust to the mechanics without just being popped like a balloon. The fights felt significant and engaging. Neither myself nor the bosses died really quickly unless I was dumb enough to stand still and try to face tank multiple hits in a row. The final boss in the campaign was a great fight. Engaged, varied, challenging and fun. Gave me a chance to get hit and almost die but then learn and surpass the challenge. It felt good. Real good. While the overall pace of wolcen and the boring end game ultimately made me stop playing after a while the design of the harder fights was so nice compared to poe.

So after stopping wolcen I decided to roll my first hcssf char cus why not. I have played scssf chars to 96+ and enjoyed it. I rolled an sst bleed glad since I know I could scale def high easily. I got to act 5 kitava. I had 1750 life 37% block 72% phys dr and max resist with 3 endurance charges at level 50. Kitava 1 shot me. And it felt real bad. On a char I spent all my time building defense and ignoring almost all damage to be just randomly 1 shot was so awful and depressing.

In my opinion lower player dmg at the top end by 35% +. To me that means take all damage modifiers on gear and items and tree and reduce them. Leave gems alone. Take all boss damage and reduce it by 50% but triple their life pools and add more resistance. Adjust leech and regen and make things like 100% crit chance and 600%+ multi harder to achieve. Instead of adding mana cost to triggers simply add a damage reduction to them. Immune phases need to go. 1 shots need to go. Granted if you are fighting a boss in a map with doubled phys as extra ele and reduced max res crit etc that's your choice and that should be scary. But the current state of bossing just feels awful.

Game Latancy going insane for POE only

    Posted: 04 Sep 2021 01:32 PM PDT

    Hello,

I have been having issues for an entire day now. Randomly latency spikes from 30ms to 10000 and game just freezes after few minutes of playing.

After that stared happening , logging into Karui shores and every other zone is painfully slow. Game will just spike for normal latency to something like 10 000.

I tried resetting router and changing servers, but problem still occurs often. I tried other games and I have no lag there.

    thanks.
