It's ya boi Fyre back with another S Tier League Starter! (Tornado Shot Occultist)

    Hey Everyone,

Today I'm bringing you all what I'm fairly certain is going to be proven one of the strongest archetypes for league starting in 3.16, Poison TS Occultist. A Raider version of this build was posted here yesterday by my good friend Palsteron (Who came up with the idea of using TS shotgunning to deliver Poisons), however our preferred versions differed by so much that we decided to release separate guides.

    PoBs:

Note: DPS shown in PoB is per Projectile, not Overall DPS.

    Levelling PoB: (League Starter)

    https://pastebin.com/0nh6a7vB

    Budget: (League Starter)

    https://pastebin.com/gSu2V2vR

    Midrange: (Day 2/3/4)

    https://pastebin.com/rvuyMru6

    High Investment: (Day 5/6/7)

    https://pastebin.com/y34iZ4hi

    Mageblood High Investment: (Week 2-3)

    https://pastebin.com/beZxW0PX

    What can this build do?

Whilst these do seem like tall claims, this build can bust through 80% T16 deli maps on a 2 exalt budget and can even manage 40% Deli on a 30c budget without too much issue. It is a god tier Blight farmer, has no issues doing lvl 83 Grand Heists, can should be good for most non-boss orientated content. Although the 2-3ex budget version easily slaps Sirus 9, this isn't the kind of content the build is min maxed for and it definitely CANT eat a die beam. At the very least, with virtually NO investment, you can easily clear T16 maps like they're an absolute joke.

This build was made primarily for farming Delirium content, Grand Heists and eventually it should ideally scale into Wave 30 Simulacrum.

    What can't this build do?

This build for some reason struggles with invitation based content until you put a few exalts into it. I had a lot of difficulties getting Maven done sub 5 exalts, it will only clear about 60% of a legion in a best case scenario and it struggles to survive in delve where you can get rushed by mobs around corners/terrain that aren't yet enfeebled.

In my test runs, this character on the 2-3ex budget presented in the starter PoB capped out at level 93-94 each time. Once you hit this level, without further investment, you're going to die too often in juiced Deli content to hit 95.

    This Build Looks Squishy

It's not a hardcore viable build but it also isn't a softcore glass cannon either.

We get 33-47% elemental damage mitigation (+resistances), and 52-62% phys damage mitigation, in addition to running 30% evasion and enhanced Temporal Chains.

In all the showcases included in my video I made sure to facetank enough damage to show just how powerful this mitigation becomes when stacked up.

Due to the way the Scourge Mechanic works (Having almost no rares), Enfeeble will recieve full effect and should keep you alive even with the debuff being stacked up pretty high.

How Does this Compare to Toxic Rain?

Well those of you who watched my stream prior to my break know I got a lot of TR testing done and I can definitively say this is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than TR, otherwise I would be playing TR right now.

    Isn't Darkscorn Expensive?

Last league it was moved to the core drop pool and as such it is significantly cheaper nowadays since it isn't being gated behind league mechanics. While it still may cost an exalt or two, it is the only item in the entire build that costs more than 10c.

    Is this SSF Friendly?

I was able to clear 40% Deli on a 5L Quill Rain instead of Darkscorn and pretty much all the other items are 1c common uniques or uninfluenced rare items. So for a change, yes, this build is actually extremely SSF friendly. In the only SSF test run I did, I managed to hit T16 maps within only a few days of gameplay.

    Why Not Raider?

Quite frankly, last week I engaged in some max hit testing to simulate potential Scourge Realm environments with high stacks of the Debuff and it seems that Raider's eHP, while nice, betrays the fact that it comes with low max hit survivability. Evasion is nice only as a luxury, raw mitigation in my opinion is far more important. In this build we combine Malediction with Enhanced Enfeeble and Temp Champs while clearing to massively debuff incoming damage as well as Converting 25% Phys to Chaos via Darkscorn for a pseudo 19% Phys DR effect. Raider is faster, but when Evasion fails it becomes total paper and I just don't expect Raider to survive 80/100% deli content without a large investment.

    Will I Stream This Build?

As usual I put my money where my mouth is and farm my HH on the build I made a league starter guide for, and it will all be streamed so that those following along can stop by to ask any questions or seek help.

    ______________________________

I'm aware some people probably think this is a drastic overselling of a build that on paper doesn't look that impressive but I will give my personal guarantee that if you league start this build, you will have a great time and progress faster than all your friends. I rigorously tested 15 different league starters and I settled on this one because I was confident this would end up being the best.

For those wanting further guidance beyond just the PoBs, here is the guide in demonetised video format, also feel free to just leave a comment in this thread and I will happily clear up any questions you may have.

A Handful of Starter Builds other people are going this league...

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 06:25 PM PDT

I have been scouring my other thread that i made to see what people were leaning more towards this league, and it's actually very surprising to see.

    Old Thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/qcbgec/have_you_decided_on_your_build_this_league/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

This is the Current Top 35* Builds that MOST people said they were either "Playing" or were leaning towards playing. These builds were suggested from different people and seem to be the most solid of starting builds, but check them out and decide for yourself.

    1. Raider/Champion - Toxic Rain
    2. Saboteur - Exsanguinate/Seismic Traps
    3. Pathfinder - Poison Concoction

    33. Occultist - Caustic Arrow/Death's Oath
    34. Juggernaut - Boneshatter
    35. Occultist - Self Cast Forbidden Rite

There was someone who suggested that you find a 3.15 build that has done MOST if not ALL the challenges and just try your best to convert that build to 3.16 and use that build as your league starter. It COULD be the play or it might not be...

Disclaimer: This list is not in any specific order i just placed the ones with the most traction near the top that's it.

EDIT: Added 10 more Builds to the List.

Have you Decided on your Build this League?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 02:28 PM PDT

If you have then what build are you going? and why?

If you haven't then what is currently stopping you from choosing one?

I was thinking of going Toxic Rain Raider, but a lot of people have been recommending Traps/Mines.
I was also thinking about either Bane or ED/Contagion, but with so many clear choices and different damage outputs and gear accessabilities i'm currently stumped on my decision process.

My 3.16 Ignite Hexblast Elementalist Starter

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 11:48 PM PDT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbChXtNFa28

Was already pretty strong testing it at the end of Expedition for a couple weeks, and depending on if we can support flame surge or not, we may stay Elementalist. Probably missed some stuff because it's my first video and I just wanted to do it all in one take, so let me know if you guys have any questions or if I missed anything!

The only item here that will be worth a bit on league start is intuitive leap. Technically Martyr is up in the air because I don't think it's fair to base it off past leagues with big ignite changes, but we're more than fine with ashcallers early, and then swapping to weapons with big fire or elemental damage and/or flat.

I added what little timestamps that seemed right, and added tree steps to the tree as you level.

[CaptainLance] My Trickster RF League Starter Plan

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 09:18 PM PDT

My take on PF Poisonous Concoction as a leaguestarter. Quite tanky (iron reflexes for up to 100k armour and molten shell, block and capped spell supp) while still having decent dps (not recommended for new players)

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 04:10 PM PDT

Hey all! First of all this is my first time sharing a build like this and I'm still very inexperienced on build making in general so please go easy on me. I might have made one or two big mistakes or there might be a more efficient way of doing something and if that is the case please let me know. Another thing I have to say is that I yoinked the initial pob from someone else (can't find the post anymore) and changed it (drastically though, I must say) but still kept some things.

    pob here: https://pastebin.com/jMcG8LFZ

Edit: new pob, more damage for all trees (added despair since I had a free socket, one more key to press but one can do with a trigger ring or even impresence later on). The dps tree now has around twice the dps (around 12m) as I filled the remaining points and added some stuff (change to darkray vectors if you're viewing the dps tree). This tree is just a proof of concept on how well the build can scale even on meh gear. I think the build will do really well with more investment though it's definitely not necessary.

I love poison and really liked the concept behind explosive concoction so it was love at first when I saw the poison variant of that skill. I never leaguestarted a new skill as I've heard the tales of vile horror from others who have suffered by doing so. Yet, I let the hype train take me in this time and here I am.

The build idea is pretty simple, you have a huge base chaos damage and you scale it like you would most poison builds. The new masteries are super good, they help our clear a lot (300% damage on first applied poison) and make it easier to scale flasks, while also helping to scale our defenses massively. The charisma cluster being right above the ranger starter is also super good as taking it allows us to run more auras (from the 15% reservation effeciency mastery).

The x8 on poisonous concoction comes from 1 + 4 (gmp) + 3 dying sun (2 +1 from flask effect). One important note is that god only knows how reliable this will be, but even if you get to around 4-5 overlaps the damage is still good, and with the increased aoe from PF ascendancy and dying sun it should (hopefully) be fine.

If you want to check how much damage you'll be doing when you start maps choose the level 70 tree and take vicious projectiles and efficacy off the links (so a 4 link), and also take off dying sun for witchfire brew and go to 5x instead of 8x. It's still around 800k-1m even with that budget and just some cheap uniques. There is also a version of the build with way more damage on the pob but sacrificing some defences in one of the trees (it's surprisingly still super tanky but costs more due to cluster and normal jewels).

As for defenses I chose to rely on armour rather than evasion by going for iron reflexes we can reach around 100k armour (without that much effort honestly) thanks to the new armour and evasion masteries. This allows us to get a giant molten shell buff which we scale the cooldown and duration with the adamant cluster (we get around 2/3 uptime). Another defense mechanic I stole from the duelist area is block. There are some good nodes that let you scale block while also scaling damage so I just went a bit deeper and took versatile combatant too which allows us to get 50% attack block and 30% spell block. With a bit more investment in the shield, we might get better values.

We also get endurance charges from Deflection and frenzy charges from blood rage/frenzy for bosses (or anomalous blood rage later on if you feel like spending 8ex). All this combined with some regular life nodes and masteries lets us boast a very high ehp, both for physical and elemental damage.

Another seemingly weird choice is the clever thief node, I took it because the leech mastery acts as a ~15% more damage multiplier and leech is always useful.

    as for the custom modifiers:

    - first four lines are from the Poisonous Concoction gem itself

-5th line is from the mastery: 100% increased evasion rating from your body armour

-6th line is from new determination

The movement speed is also pretty decent for a league starter due to quicksilver scaling and onslaught (from belt mod). The only thing I'm personally concerned for the clear is how reliable the skill will be as I've never played a concoction skill myself but I'm confident on prolif to carry. There is also the option to go plaguebearer, you'll need to get rid of the wither totems and use withering step instead. I personally hate withering step and I want to test what poison prolif can really do.

There might be some attributes problems early on and I don't have much of a solution to that, we might have to rely on dex->int and dex->strenght unique jewels or just some good rolls on rings/amulet. Also, we need accuracy, though I think there might be a solution with the accuracy mastery that reads something like: "Dexterity accuracy bonus now grants +3 to accuracy rating instead" though I'm not sure how good that will be.

Apart from these two problems the build looks legit and I don't think I'm pob warrioring that much, maybe the endurance charge uptime will not always be optimal but I think taking an enduring composure cluster later on might help fix it. Also, early game you can probably take the "20 increased effect of withered" chaos mastery instead as you'll probably not have enough chaos resistance to use the other one. For the starter version, you can replace a lot of the more expensive uniques like atziri's step by just some evasion boots, it won't make a big difference, especially in the early game. Most uniques I use here are dirt cheap even in the first week of the league.

I think I've gotten through the most important stuff, if you have some suggestions/critiques or need an explanation about something please let me know.

    3.16 Chaos Slinger

    Hey guys,

First ever time trying to make my own build for a league start, thought i'd give it a shot. My favourite playstyle of this game is Spellslinging and DoTs. I've put a PoB together for my first iteration and would just like some feedback with better pathing and some skill recommendations.

Only thing i've already thought is to drop some life somewhere, maybe Disciple and Training/Retribution near the Templar for some Mana efficiency but then picking up Righteous Decree would also be very nice.

    Thanks regardless

EDIT: Made a new build as Scion going full life. https://pastebin.com/LiKw9maa

Here's a SS if PoB still decides to not work for me.

    Spell suppression vs spell dodge

    Posted: 21 Oct 2021 04:32 AM PDT

Do you guys think a primarily evasion based build, with a lets say 3.5k healthpool would be better off with 100% spell suppression or 50% spell dodge? I assume there's a healthpool breakpoint at which suppressing damage doesn't matter as you will die either way, and as such having the dodge chance is better, what do you guys think?

    Tree planner w/ generator algorithm

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 10:17 AM PDT

So, I know that current "industry standard" is PoB Community, but for the longest time I was using this tool as an alternative/complimentary. Mostly, because it had a "tree generator" functionality, where I would mark nodes as "required" and "forbidden" and using what I assume is graph pathing related math, I got myself an "optimal" tree (collecting all required nodes and ignoring all forbidden, in minimum points). It was not without a fault, but it was INCREDIBLY useful tool to have around.

It didn't even bother me much, that tool was no updated since 3.13, because I could always download live tree data and was good to go.But then 3.16 was announced with cluster masteries, and this method no longer worked.

So, the question is -- does anyone knows of an alternative tool with similar "generator" functionality?

Tip for fire builds: Cover in Ash with any build using just 1 socket.

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 11:09 AM PDT

A lot of people don't realize this, but Infernal Cry covers enemies in ash.

Covers Enemies in Ash, causing 3% increased Fire Damage taken per 5 Power, up to 20%

Unique mobs grant 20 power, so Infernal Cry applies 12% increased fire damage taken. Note this is less than the standard Cover in Ash value of 20%, but this requires nothing but a single gem socket anywhere in your gear.

    Storm Brand Inqui LS

    Posted: 21 Oct 2021 01:14 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

It's my first post on reddit, and i decided to share my PoB as a Storm Brand Inqui.I felt like most of the PoB that i've seen on Reddit or other, use 2 CoB, with Cold Convert, and some extra unique and/or a Timeless Jewel. Wich in my opinion isn't suited for a LS, event if it could be pretty cheap in the early days of a league.

    My POB : https://pastebin.com/YKbRH5MP

The damage is only with one brand attached, so i figured you should double that. I still lack some skills to help me up. But with a bunch (of i feel is shitty) gear, some tweeks, i feel like i can "easily" go to the top of the atlas, even go Sirus 8.

If you have any advice, questions or so on, don't hesitate.

    Thank you

After reviewing a few things. I think that's it's even better. With some improvement later on (like a Enlighten to get HoT + Zealotry + Wrath and a nice Watcher's Eye.

Toxic Rain Raider vs. Champion Discussion

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 05:13 AM PDT

I might leaguestart Toxic Rain in SCSSF Scourge, the idea is to have a really fast mapping character.

So I'm playing around PoB thinking it'll be Raider fore sure but now I'm seeing actually the majority of TR builds going for Champion.

But wont Raider just be straight up faster and have more dps due to the ascendancy and position on the tree for dot multi nodes? Kinda seems like Champion would be the HC choice but the defenses seem kinda overkill for SC if you are not pushing 100.

Edit: A few people asked for my SCSSF Raider TR PoB (leveling trees included) https://pastebin.com/01v6Hn4H

6.7k life, 3.8mil Sirus dps (2.4 mil with Mirage Archer), 251% ms, 100% spell suppression (without quartz infusion) and 48k evasion. Ailment immunity probably easily achievable but haven't bothered yet. All with easy SSF obtainable gear and no cluster jewels.

Edit 2: I am talking SCSSF in my case and my PoB is also for SSF

Edit 3: A quote from Darkee who made the Champion TR build:

And I'm just going to preemptively add this so it's in writing somewhere and I can't be flamed in the future: Seriously consider playing Raider over Champion unless you are completely sure you want to be Champion levels of tanky. If I was playing SC I would 100% play raider. It gets tanky enough to comfortably do all end game content with easier gearing and more QoL/Speed and slightly higher damage. Champion is just for when you want your character to survive when it absolutely should not survive.

    Thx to Reddituser CatInAPot

Edit 5: People have been asking for Darkee's Toxic Rain Champion: https://pastebin.com/RmyEkD9L

note that his PoB is optimized for HCSSF.

Tornado Math check please (for Eye of Winter)

    Posted: 21 Oct 2021 04:15 AM PDT

So we now have the 20/20 gems, and it looks like the final version absorbs damage (up to 20 hits) for 1.5s, and then reflects 10% of that damage 4 times a second, for 4 seconds - or 16 hits.

I'm trying to parse this for an EoW slinger build, using both tornado and hydrosphere, plus chain support instead of snakepit. Assuming we don't reach the 20 hit limit in the first phase (guaranteed unless you're using some crazy CDR shenanegans), and also assuming the tornado is on a trigger weapon so we don't keep overwriting it. This means I'll be averaging its effects over the 8s trigger cooldown.

for 1.5s it acts like an extra hydrosphere. In ideal conditions, this means 100% more damage for 1.5s every 8 seconds, which averages out to 18.75% more damage. Then the second phase snapshots 10% of damage dealt to the tornado (so 15% of our dps), and then hits 16 more times with that. 16 hits averaged over 8 seconds = 2 hits a second of 15% dps = 30% more dps. Total of 48.75 more damage.

If you're using CDR boots to get that tasty 3 eye casts a second, then the trigger cooldown becomes 7s (give or take, depending on your roll) - giving us around 56% more damage in ideal conditions.

In practice, not every projectile is gonna land and the tornado isn't always gonna be on the boss (depending on its AoE), so 35% / 42% is probably more realistic (for 8s and 7s trigger cooldown respectively).

Have I made any mistakes in my maths? If not, this seems well worth the cost of using a chain support. 42% is short of the 50%-ish damage a woke support might give us, but this also frees up a ring slot from snakepit, which is extremely nice. It might also work with snakepit though. The gem description seems like you can only chain off the tornado during the first 1.5s, so it's not that big a loss if it eats up some projectiles that would otherwise chain to a boss. I think it's around a 10% dps loss in ideal conditions (and less of a loss in non-ideal conditions), before the 42% gain.

Has Inquisitor overtaken Chieftain/Juggernaut for RF?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2021 03:39 AM PDT

I've been considering playing RF this league as it is one of my favorite builds that I have played in the past however I am seeing people leaning toward Inquis over Chief/Jugg. Is it really that much better? I'm not opposed to trying it but I am unsure if I will like having to rely on consecrated ground for regen.

On the other hand, is Cheif/Jugg that much worse? I was also considering Ignite Discharge or even Fire Cyclone if I went the Marauder route where if I went the Templar route the only other build I was considering was Eye of Winter Spellslinger, which even then I dont know how good that will be.

Just wondering if Inquis has become the go to or if the other variants are still fine?

PSA : Trap PoB'ers (Bad Assumption on Perfect Crime for Saboteur )

    Posted: 20 Oct 2021 12:23 PM PDT

Just in case people haven't noticed, PoB Fork has Perfect Crime granting [Your Trap Limit]*10% increased Damage, so 190% increased damage for most builds.

Now, unless I'm misunderstanding Perfect Crime grossly, this would only apply to your initial burst, but be closer to 0-30% increased Damage the rest of the time. I was feeling like my damage was a lot higher than I expected and this turned out to be the culprit.
