RE: Deleted Posts and Mod things

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 08:52 PM PDT

Just wanted to address a few concerns that were brought up by members of the community here the past couple days, as well as give you a bit of background on the general moderating of this sub.

ProjectPT and Freakindon started this sub. Some years ago I noticed this sub was in a relatively poor state as Don and PT had moved on to other games, countless RMT advertisement threads and comments being thrown into threads. I reached out to Don and told him I was passionate about the game and I wanted to do some clean up as far as the auto-moderation etc., and asked if I could be a mod. Don got back to me quickly and modded me.

Elzofo joined more recently and he's solely responsible for the the CSS and the sub having the color that it was once lacking.

I threw together some filters for the automod to catch any RMT related posts as well as banned 100+ accounts that would be created over the next few months. Luckily we haven't had issues with RMT advertisement since.

What else have I done as far as "mod duties" go? Scroll through reports when my time permits and get rid of the comments or threads that are toxic or low effort. I work full time and I'm also a father and husband. I do not have the capacity to moderate every thread that is posted here. I'm the only one doing any moderation of threads. Don't harass the other mods, this is just how this sub has ran for years now.

For the most part, this sub is pretty civilized and doesn't require much moderating compared to a billion other gaming subs. I don't even follow the main sub anymore because it's a toxic echo-chamber 90% of the time. I understand many of you expect certain behavior from the mods of a given subreddit, or a higher level of engagement with the community and I apologize that we've come short of that. This is the first time this sub has even had this sort of drama, and honestly maybe writing this is a mistake as I'm not sure what it's accomplishing.

As for the threads I deleted without providing explanation to the OP: to me they were obviously toxic threads that I believed were causing more harm than anything else. While there were some useful info in the thread as far as folks trying to help those that were stuck, I can't let these public shaming threads remain up. This is a video game, friends.

I'll try to be more active in modding toxic comments that sometimes go unnoticed to myself. I very much appreciate all of those who frequent this sub and offer advice to the folks who need help, you're the reason this sub is still alive.

If you're legitimately interested in being a mod on this sub, please reach out to me. We could use more help. I don't have an application for you to fill out and can't promise that I'd be able to read all submissions but just give me a little bit about yourself and we'll go from there. More than anything, I don't want this sub to devolved into the echo chamber that the main sub can often be. If you feel the same, let's talk.

Why were two threads discussing Fyregrass TS removed?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 12:39 PM PDT

    Thread one: https://old.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/qdzz83/cautionary_tale_fyregrasss_poison_ts_occultist/

    Thread two: https://old.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/qe57g5/the_fyregrass_tornado_occultist_help_thread/

What was the reasoning behind this? Both threads had people discussing their experiences with the build and how they played it (or decided to respec). Considering the amount of people having first-hand experience with it and the clear evidence that the build does not work as advertised (twitch clips of the creator's playthrough) I'd say such threads clearly don't break "Accusations Require Evidence" rules or similar.

I think leaving the original thread up but removing all discussion about it when it doesn't work is a pretty evil move. Can we have some transparency from mods on this issue?

Struggling with a now, infamous, TS poison league starter

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 05:55 PM PDT

Hi there. I'm not looking for hate of any kind whatsoever. Fyreglass put a lot of effort into the build and it felt like he was being genuine when he said it was going to be a great league starter. Things sometimes don't work out and we can't all get things right all the time. I'm only here for some help with a transition.

I did read about a poison concoction witch occultist build somewhere but as the original threads were taken down I can't locate the build I'm after.

Is anyone able to help out?

    Thanks for your time

(love from a slightly inebriated PoE player)

    *Edit

I would like to add, I don't get a huge amount of time to play. Only up to act 6 atm and would prefer not to redo the campaign but if enough people suggest it's for the best I will, begrudgingly, start from Act 1 again.

PSA: How to best use the league mechanic.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 10:50 PM PDT

Pretty sure most people aren't aware of this but how scourge works but mobs that appear to have "spawned" are already preset into your map.

What does this mean? If you pop it in an area where you haven't activated the scourge league mechanic yet you're likely to spawn in a full page of mobs which will proceed to dumpster you if your build has low dps, has bad ramp up, has bad clear, etc.

This also means even if you die after a boss has spawned, the boss is still there at the same HP you left him at. Simply refill you bar to more than half, walk over to the same spot and pop the league mechanic again.

This means you have potentially 5 retries if you're having difficulty with the boss.

So how to best use the league mechanic? (if you want to, there are quite a number of complaints on how unrewarding it is)

Here are a couple of tips that help me:

    1. Keep track of the map layout and the mobs on the map at the scourge layer.
    2. You don't have to burn through your entire scourge bar, you can transition to scourge anytime it's above 50% and back to normal if its lower than 50%.
    3. Sometimes in a low density area (scourge) hit [V] just go back the normal map, clear some mobs, skip that exact area and then forge ahead to a place you know to have mobs.
    4. Apply your buffs/etc. right before you transition to scourge.
    5. Using other league mechanics like Legion/Alva/Syndicate as scourge bar refills.

    TL:DR
You don't play scourge like its a separate mapping mechanic, where you stop what you're doing in maps and focus on it. It's basically a second map layered on your current one which you routinely switch to and when played correctly doubles your monster density.

[3.16] Exsanguinate Champion is a great League starter if you are struggling

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 10:01 PM PDT

So I've decided to leaguestart with Exsanguinate Champion, a build suggested by Ruetoo among his build charts. The reasoning behind that was quite simple: I wanted a REALLY tank league starter and that was capable of starting cheap.

To my surprise Exsang Champ is way more solid than I initially thought; this is the first time I've finished the campaign in SC pretty deathless* (well... I had one death at Act 1 when I was AFK lol) and without feeling my damage was off.

First of all, this is the POB Ruetoo shared: https://pastebin.com/QRrs2KAv; you may see that some items are busted like a ring giving "200% chaos resist" but they are templates and should be viewed as such. The goal is to get as much as armor, HP and resists as you can; get Cast Speed on jewels (and clusters if possible), get a +1 Wand and Shield (or Cold Iron Point, your call, but remember you'll have less Cast Speed this way) and you are good to go up until T16.

This build achieves a large EHP pool, a lot of Armour because of Champion ascendancy and passives (and if you want to, Determination) and a veeeery respectable amount of Life Regen - which I've found to be very effective after the changes, don't sleep on it!

My current POB is quite simple, it is only level 81 and I'm just doing T6-T7 maps, but it is REALLY comfortable, i pretty much don't die, even doing Scourge all the time and my gear is still garbage. Anyway, here is my current and very scuffed POB: https://pastebin.com/wE35cBS5. I'm not using Determination but Vitality, since ~9k armor is more than enough for white/yellow maps, but I plan to swap to Determination eventually (maybe when I get Enlighten, not sure yet).

I've seen a lot of people struggling with other builds (even TR Champ builds) so I've decided to share my experience with this lovely build and very fun skill to play! I plan to release a video doing some yellow maps tomorrow, I would do it today but it is quite late and I'm tired af, sorry lol. f you're gonna league start late I suggest you to follow this CF Glad leveling guide since both Champ and Glad will be playing the same stuff up until you switch out from slinging (I've swapped at white maps, when I've crafted a +1 wand with cast speed and found my 5L chest).

If you have any questions regarding the build, specially about leveling process and whatnot I'll try to answer in the best way I can!

Edit 1: Ruetoo's Google Docs Sheet with his builds for 3.16.

Need help scaling damage with poisonous conc (t14+)

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 11:09 PM PDT

Hey guys, was wondering if anyone was having better success with ST damage in high tier reds/bosses with poisonous concoction. I was deleting all content in t10 and lower pretty easily, but now map bosses take an egregious amount of time, and I spent about 7 minutes killing a t15 elder guardian that had endurance charges.

Since I haven't seen it on here: Grimro's CF 'Walkrhtough' is a great league starter so far

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 04:21 PM PDT

About a week before league start Grimro released his idea for his league starter and I saw a few people who wanted to copy it. A lot of redditors here already said that a lot of people will fail with it, so here are my thoughts:

-Act 1-4: was a breeze. First time playing a steel skill, but I didnt have any problems. Some bosses took a little longer, but nothing out of the ordinary

-At the end of Act 4: It was time to transition to Kinetic Blast, Spellslinger Exsanguinate and CF. I followed the Guide almost perfectly and hat 3 out of the 4 4-Links ready, that were mandatory to transition. (The 4th one wasnt really necessary since I just left out an aura and vulnerability)

-Act 4-10: were just smooth sailing. I didnt really touch my gear from Act 4 on except, jewellery for res.

-Mapping: Here is where it gets a little tough, you may have to run a few white tier maps to change the sockets of your gear, get more res and maybe get a little currency to buy or craft your wands. I also highly recommend getting a large cluster early on, because the build doesnt really work without them. (base is around 20c and crafting with fossils another 10c)

-I did not transition to TS yet, since you need about 20ex to be able to pull that off.

TL;DR: If you follow the POB/Spreadsheet it's pretty smooth

Edit: I can't edit the typo in the title and now I hate myself.

There are a lot of pros in this build, and a few cons. I try my best to outline them, but please let me know if anyone has any questions! Sorry about audio quality, it's not super leveled in the video.

Build suggestions for a beginner. First time playing the game with boyfriend.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 02:25 PM PDT

First time posting on this sub

So tomorrow I'm going to play poe for the first time, and we're gonna do it together with my boyfriend, who has 300+ hours in this game.

He has shown me a few things about the game, and i think I'll like it, but I know nothing about builds. I'd prefer a pretty easy build to play with, cause i really don't want to slow him down, since he's pretty excited for the league.

New player here struggling to find a mele build to start learning the basics.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 11:20 PM PDT

I've spent the past 2 days trying to understand everything surrounding the game, not gonna lie the amount of content, mechanics and deep of the game overwhelms me. I've spend to days doing everything but playing the game and I still dont know which mele-beginner friendly build should I play. I've been checking various builds like earthshatter, shield crush, shattering steel.. and all of them are mentioned to not be recommended for starting league. Which mele build should I be looking into? I prefer tanky-pure warrior style builds but Im also up to play something like elemental weapons etc.

Any S Tier clearing builds with offscreen/chaining/piercing skills?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2021 08:36 PM PDT

Really want to play Ranger this league, I tried Toxic Rain Raider but it doesn't work for me because the damage of TR is very delayed and the AOE doesn't chain/pierce/offscreen, hitting lots of enemies. It's super safe and runs yellow maps at a good pace but feels bad/slow in the nightmare zone and that's what my main focus is.

I am looking for suggestions on top S tier clearing builds that are preferably Ranger and preferably not Gladiator (played SST Glad last league) but am open to any input. Thank you.

Mapping build for low latency/lag in scourge

    Posted: 24 Oct 2021 04:31 AM PDT

    High latency*

    Hello,

after a very good league start with a bv build, I started to map, and to die a lot at the same time.

The reason is pretty much that I really started to use the league mechanic, and it's very very bad to play with both heavy lag and a melle build.

Now that I have a few ex, I'm looking for a build that can clear all the content, even with low perf (not all boss as a league start, I'll dump currencies first).

Minions seem to be the obvious answer, but is there something else that can work ?
