The 1HP Challenge, a Dissolution of the Flesh + Strength of Blood + Petrified Blood build (Need help getting more damage)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 11:22 AM PDT

    Hello exiles!

Ever since the announcement of Dissolution of the Flesh, a jewel which makes you life act life ES (more on that later) while giving you a lot more life (20-30% more, not increased) I've been scratching my head on how to actually use it. I've been theorycrafting this build since league start but, since I am not as die hard of a player, it just came online yesterday. First of all, here is a run of a T13 Lookout map with one of the worst possible mods to roll (Desecrated ground)

Here is a preview of the build, and how to clear a map with only 1 HP point. (not really since I have +10 life on kill from shadow start, but you get the idea). (No it is not a giga fast mapper like the ones I see here but I only spend a single ex on gear and this is my first real build in 2 years, more info on upgrading at the end)

    Here are the basics.

    • Dissolution of the Flesh: The jewel has been covered extensively by CaptainLance here and here, ThatsRealNeato ( u/thatsrealneato ), and Woolfio. To reiterate, when you take damage (from anything) you normally lose life which then you can regen, leech, recoup, etc. Dissolution makes it so instead of losing that life you reserve it, and after 2 seconds of not taking damage you unreserve all your life. Hence, all recovering methods are worthless now (since reserving life doesn't require you to actually have the HP points after the reservation rework from some leagues ago). Also, if you reserve 100% of your life, you die. Tough luck.
    • Strength of Blood: The least used keystone of the lethal pride jewels. Normally life leech gives you damage back as life, to a max of 20% of your max life per second (this is know as Maximum total life Recovery per Second from Life Leech, a mouthful). Strength of Blood makes it so instead of life recovery you get less damage taken, 1% per 2% Life Recovery per second. In laymans terms, SoB translates to 10% less damage taken while leeching, but no recovery. This is usually bad, but since Dissolution threw away the usefulness of recovery, there is no downside this time.
    • Vaal Pact: This keystone doubles our Maximum total life Recovery per second from Life Leech, e.g. we now get 20% less damage taken from SoB instead of 10%. Again, the downside (no life regen) is meaningless here.
    • Petrified Blood: Usually added as a way to enable LL for life builds, it takes 40% of the damage of a hit and converts it into a 'life loss' over 4 seconds. This 'life loss' is not considered damage and thus doesn't reserve life with Dissolution. Other builds have counteracted this 'life loss' using Eternal Youth as the life recharge isn't life regen or life leech. However not only is the keystone on the other side of the tree for me (more on that later) it also halves the effectiveness of Strength of Blood, so how to counter it?
    • Life Recoup: Using a 19/25 Petrified Blood (thanks to Ashes of the Stars) we only take 75% of that 40% of damage prevented as life loss over 4 seconds. e.g. 30% of damage as life loss. Then, if we take exactly 30% of damage recouped as life (18% from infused flesh and 12% from a ring mod) we can perfectly counteract the life loss without recovering too much life (this is important for LL, more on this later).

Does this convoluted interaction work? Hell yeah

Notice that there is a rounding error somewhere in the 19/25 PB which is causes us to gain 1 life here and there (I presume the real value is 74.75% of the 40%, not 75%).

What do we gain from this combo?

    • PB turns into 40% less damage taken from hits, since we can't die from the life loss (and degens wont make us lose life, only reserve it)
    • 20% less damage taken from Strength of Blood (scalable with increased Maximum total life Recovery per second from Life Leech)
    • As you can see in the first video, we don't have any form of life recovery other than a +10 life on kill on shadow start (which I need to get rid of). That means we can permanently stay at 1 HP and not die. This enables both LL on a life character as well as overleech (since we never fill our unreserved life, the less damage taken from SoB never goes away)

So, in theory this gives us like a 55K effective life pool on 5K life, with the downside that we need a 2 second window of not taking damage.

    Problems to solve now:

    • Mitigation: Other builds have used a combo of max block and armour as mitigation to allow for that 2s window. But I believe evasion is more useful here, since if can reach a higher cap (90% with investment) and actually helps us take no damage for 2s thanks to the entropy system (TL;DR you are less likely to take two hits in a row than with an equal amount of block). The other benefit from build eva is that you are closer to Vaal Pact and don't have to use Atziri's Acuity
    • Poison: Degens are nasty here since they don't let you have that 2s window. I have 98% (RIP me) chance to avoid poison from jewel implicts as well as the EVA mastery (another reason why the right side of the tree is better in this scenario).
    • Bleed: We can avoid bleed in the same way, but the new Steelskin also grants immunity to bleeding so we use that as well as some 60% to avoid bleeds
    • Ignite: Same idea, although I am using the pantheon for 60% less ignite duration now. May switch to avoid poison/ignite and pray Steelskin in enough for bleeds.
    • Corrupted Blood: Jewel implicit. the tree is a mess right now.
    • Ground effects: Just keep moving. Seriously, burning ground can be mitigated via the pantheon but the other degens aren't as easy to manage. A combination of Strength of Blood (20% less damage taken) and Wind Ward (3-30% less damage taken) acts as good layer of defense, but you really need to keep moving and blinking to not die to ground effects

All and all this defensive layer is not an AFK tank, but can still get you out of a tricky situation and you don't need life flasks! So you can go full defensive/DPS with whatever flasks you like.

What did I do with this? A Doomfletch build! For no reason other than Bloodthirst is a pretty good jewel here thanks to the perma LL and the 30% more life from Dissolution. I will admit I am not the greatest mapper, but the build is far from complete. And this is where I need your help, I am not used to taking characters to this point so I am not sure how to upgrade from here. Here are some highlights from the build:

    • Precise Technique: I don't know how to build crit, I've never built crit and this keystone makes it so I only need to build accuracy instead of crit. Possible upgrade is to get a Secrets of Suffering and go into alt ailments, but I don't have the money for that now. A little anti-synergistic with Dissolution of the Flesh, since we have a lot of life and thus need a lot of accuracy,
    • Doomfletch's Prism: A classic bow, get a lot of flat phys and thrive, especially good with the Bloodthirst support (I notice I am using a lot of things that named after 'flesh' and 'blood' ) Using Split Arrow due to the flat phys and the fact it pairs really well with Barrage support.
    • Deadeye: Trying out Wind Ward as an extra defensive layer. Seems to work ok so far, Occupying force helps for clear on Expeditions and rituals, but undecided if I should instead go for Far Shot.

Character view using poe ninja: https://poe.ninja/pob/4e9

    Current character PoB: https://pastebin.com/aqRGb6uC

    Possible upgrades?

    • Gloves, I need better gloves, but unsure of what I want here aside from life and resists. Damage conversion into fire/cold/lightning could help my DPS
    • Chest, random six link I found and threw some essences into. Could use the eldritch implicit 8-9% damage recouped as life to offload that mod from the ring and put more resists there.
    • Helmet: Rog gave me that, some flat accuracy and resists. Been eyeing The Fledgling for Far Shot and the proj speed (bow mastery proj speed = damage), but I am struggling with resists right now
    • Rings, unsure whether to stay on Steel rings or move to vermillions. Precise technique is telling me no.
    • Belt: Need the abyssal jewel. Seems like a good place to put a lot of resists.
    • Amulet: Ashes of the Stars! The extra qual is great for Split Arrow/ Sniper's Mark / Petrified Blood and the extra reservation efficiency helps me with my auras. Also want to buy the Anomalous Blood and sand for the proj speed, but I ran out of money buying an awakened fork for clear.

Thank you so much for reaching the end of my wall of text. Thanks to u/Crosshack for giving me the idea for Overleech with Dissolution and showing me I didn't need to be a Slayer. Also to u/CocDowner for his showcase of a split arrow Doomfletch Trickster and showing that you don't need to be crit to play Doomfletch. Also to this madlass playing with Dissolution on HC. And I think that is it? Thanks again and I am so happy this ridicolous combo actually works.

    Animate Guardian Gearing Spreadsheet 3.17

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 04:37 PM PDT

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18OHmDEKVowmIUjukCFKF-eUkhqGD06BE/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107070006643125700700&rtpof=true&sd=true

Brainstormed all modifiers and items one might be interested in using on a support animate guardian. The idea was to include distinct/unique modifiers/items, even if clearly outclassed by another item in its slot. There are some loose gearing suggestions for those unfamiliar with animate guardian, as well as a setup for non-minion oriented builds. Note that the spreadsheet has 3 separate tabs you can toggle between. (PoE 3.17)

Feel free to suggest something you think ought to be on here.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuR4VXadBM0

This video explains some of the gearing setups; if you are familiar with animate guardian gearing already, however, the spreadsheet will prove more informative and time-efficient.

    Enjoy!

    Looking for a wander build

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 01:40 PM PDT

I've never played a wander in my life, so I want to do just that.

As a second challenge for me I want to do it completely SSF.

Is there any decent wander build, that's very suitable for an SSF league? It doesn't have to one shot maven or anything, I just want it to be good enough to comfortably clear alch and go t14-16 maps.

Preferably I'd love a Power Siphon (I low-key love the way this skill looks) one, but if your idea sounds good I might give it a go.

I'm also relatively new to crafting, since I've always been just buying my gear. Thus a guide with some crafting explanations would be ideal, but I could figure that out on my own if needed.

    Starter Build Endgame Viable.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 05:56 PM PDT

I am starting late and want to find a starter build that is able to do all bosses on low/no budget as I don't currently have any currency and don't know how much I will make before end of the league. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Elusive/nightblade question

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 05:55 PM PDT

Hey, I'm thinking about using nightblade for my blade trap Sabo... And was a bit confused about how the support gem would work with my setup.

I've got multiple sources and increased elusive effect; but I can't actually gain elusive from my hit with traps, because the traps are the ones hitting. I'm proccing it with withering step as well as forbidden flesh/flame mistwalker so I'm elusive.

The gem says "elusive from supported skills also grants xxx% to Crit multi for skills supported by nightblade"

    So.....

Will the Crit multi not effect my traps? If I gained elusive from critting from whirling blades, will I get it?

It seems to be worded that I won't gain Crit multi in this scenario

Looking for a build to settle down with

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 05:33 PM PDT

Hey! Like the title says, I'm now looking for a build to settle down with.

I've had ALOT of fun this league and it's by far the furthest I've ever gotten with POE.

Made plenty different build, phantasmal cremation, generals cry blade flurry, WORB, Omni LS raider, OMNI TS etc.

I'm now hoping somebody can point me in the direction of a build that can just do it all. That I can make, settle down with and do everything.

I can probably get a mageblood and around 150ex.

    I enjoy bossing, delve, simulacrums.

    So the requirements if possible;

Rather tanky Able to do all boss encounters Delve pretty well Juices t16s

    Basically all content!

Look forward to any suggestions, thanks :)

To sell or not to sell Mageblood/HH

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 07:09 PM PDT

I've been playing Wardloop Icespear and managed to drop a Mageblood and a HH.

Neither of these work on this build, the question i have is should i sell one or both of the belts to upgrade my gear as i only have average gear and ran out of currency building it?

Or should i find a differnet build that optimises Mageblood?

Yes i know i'm missing resistances and attributes but don't have the currency to fix it yet...

Appreciate all the guidance and recommendations.

    Omni LS Raider help

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 01:11 PM PDT

2nd ever league, switched to omni LS raider after hating skellies at start, managed to grind out a HH and all the other essential pieces, but no too sure where to go next?

Build feels pretty good. Good damage, fast, relatively tanky, so no major complaints. Just wondering if any poe overlords could shed some insight on what upgrades to focus on or what potential changes to make to my tree/gear? I know I need a better claw, but they're just so damn expensive... Life on ring? And some gloves with better tier/non-crafted mods.

I've seen people saying secrets of suffering is a must, but I don't actually know how brittle/chill work, whether it would make a difference in mapping? Also, any ways of making the build tankier without sacrificing too much damage? Maybe fortify eldritch implicit on chest? Any help is greatly appreciated.

While we're here, best way to make currency? I've been running expedition with compass+gilded scarab and syndicate, but the expedition feels pretty bad getting 4 Rogs and no logbooks in a row, maybe someone has a better start akin to nem3?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 03:11 PM PDT

    my current pob: https://pastebin.com/hD1fWwia

i'm mostly running moderately juiced T16, focus on Ritual,Expedition,Legion.

i'm not sure if i should try and upgrade to get 100% spell suppression or if there is another/better way to get more survivability... using a shield maybe? going CI? or maybe trying to get more dps to kill faster???

i'm loosely following Ethans build but he is obviously worlds ahead with his gear and funds lol. my budget is around 12-13 ex atm.

any suggestions and help is welcome!

How can I improve this mage skellies build with 5 ex?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 12:59 PM PDT

I'd start with the fact that I'm a noob and this is my first minion build.

    https://pastebin.com/2sMpYyGh

The areas I'd like to improve:

    1. more damage
      1. Especially things that are more impactful than alt quality gems/more quality
      2. If you want to say "legion jewel" then what 12 passives do I need to free?
    2. survivability.
      1. I know this a glass canon build and I don't mind being one-shoted here and there but I'm sure there there are obvious things I'm missing
      2. Don't have the time/currency to respec into block/ES

    Thanks!!

    Need help with LS Raider

    Posted: 29 Mar 2022 11:11 AM PDT

I am currently running a Lightning Strike frenzy stacker sort of build that is mostly fine for map clear but not strong at all for bossing. I have collected some small pieces of Omni gear (perfect omni, perfect mark of the elder, a shaper ring and an extra backup stat ring) and I plan on transitioning to the Omni variant of the build when I can. The problem is that I only have about 15ex saved up and I don't want to brick my entire build. I am also running into lots of DPS problems and survivability problems but I am currently pigeonholed into my gear because of stat requirements and I was wondering what I can do to improve the tankiness and damage of my character.
