Generic ED / Cont (also works for Soulrend, whatever) PoB (pending PoB updates)

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 02:59 AM PST

As there seem to be a lot of people looking for informations about ED/Cont, here is my go-to template, has been the same (with variations) pretty much since Perandus, so ya know. (I like occultist, it's the best ascendancy, and witch is the best snarky bitch you could ever want to play.)

    https://pastebin.com/kYfAJxFg

Some notable things to mention :

    • If you go for Soulrend, you just drop Contagion entirely. Add a CWDT setup, that way you won't need to carry around an abyssal cry gem to be able to do Porcupine maps.
    • If you go for Soulrend, some of the ES nodes might possibly be replaced by ES / ESLeech nodes. I mean I don't give a fuck about Soulrend because ED is the best skill in the whole fucking universe (fite me) but ya know, if you have inferior taste and want to act on it, more power to you, I guess.
    • You can go malediction for tri-curse, in which case either lower your clarity level, drop enlighten, and add a selfcast curse (possibility 1), use a CoH setup if you're running Soulrend and don't need contagion (2) or use Witchfire Brew (3). Brew kinda sucks, though, 'cos the despair doesn't take your curse effectiveness into account.
    • Yes, it is a level 100 tree, Yes, I know, it's only 122 points, but the new tree has one more small passive node in the shadow triangle of doom area. It used to be a 15% minion damage node. Oh well.
    • With the reductions to mana cost, Dreamer can maybe go fuck itself, in which case you can take an ES 2-pointer. Probably the ES/Spell leech for Soulrend builds, or Faith & Steel for ED or Blight or Bane builds. Not holding my breath tho, stil likely we're going to need that node.
    • The aura effect is provisional. Would be replaced by a 3-point jewel if Malevolence isn't worth it. Probably going to be a 3-point jewel anyway, but hey, gotta cover all the bases.
    • Until you hit the bow, you can use a Cane of Unraveling. It doesn't have Soul Strike though, so that sucks. If you're lucky with your first Catarina kill and get the +2 support, you can get any +1 bow (e.g. porcupine) and turn it into a +3 while you wait for the juicy juicy fossil craft to happen.
    • My plan is to use only two curses, Temporal chains always, and Enfeeble while mapping / Despair while bossing. Because a boss doesn't deal damage to you when he's dead.
    • Arcane surge on contagion miiiiight get bumped one level depending on the resulting mana cost of the 110 to 130 mana multiplier change on Arcane Surge. I haven't done the maths yet.

    -----------------------

    • If you want to be an edgy boy, roughly the same build would work for Trickster. I mean, I don't know why you'd want to be an edgy boy when you can be a Witch, but ya know.

    ------------------------

Spice it up to taste, of course. But if you want an ultra-endgame ES chaos build, that's pretty much a good start.

    Freezing Pulse

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 03:01 AM PST

Freezing Pulse Mana Cost at gem level 1 is now 5 (was 4).

Mana Cost at gem level 20 is now 21 (was 18).

Now deals 8 to 12 Cold damage at gem level 1 (from 7 to 11) and 888 to 1332 Cold damage at gem level 20 (from 798 to 1197).

Now has an added damage effectiveness of 150% (from 125%).

This is a big buff. I'm interested in making a build with FP this league. Any suggestions? Selfcast Elementalist? Totem Hierophant? Or something different?

    Occultist advice?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 01:10 AM PST

Basically everyone knows occultist is likely going to be the best class to play in the new league, with the changes to curse effectiveness, and the new curse based items with ES leech... one item with ES leech BASED on curses applied that ALSO gives extra curses AND autocasts all socketed curses when one is cast...

But ive never played occultist before, and i have no idea what to do. Winder orb was the meta last league, i didnt play it then and was considering it, but with the buff to decay and the ability to buy added chaos damage i was debating some kind of blight CwC soulrend/decay/contagion/wither mess of a build... I dunno, need PoB updated before i can theorycraft anything. But I really need advice on how to play occultist and what would be a good build for it.

    So... anyone got suggestions?

EDIT: Also looking at the ascendency i dont know what nodes to take... I ASSUME i want the void beacon for sure, and if going curses profane bloom? Do i want malediction? Or both ES nodes? I really dont know.

    EK league starter help

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 03:37 AM PST

Since EK got a massive buff i wanted to try it as a league start since i havent played it for a few years. I was thinking on going inquisitor CI or would elementalist CI be better, or completely drop CI since i know its not really budget friendly. But since ES got leech now thats why i want to go CI, now what would be better inqisitor or elementalist

Edit: i should clarifiy that i want to farm maps for currency so good clear speed it crucial

    Trickster Scorching Ray

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 04:58 AM PST

    Greetings all.

Trickster Scorching Ray has always been a great reliable starter for me and if you haven't done it before I would seriously recommend it. 3.6 gives about 25% damage buff and the ascendancy changes have given more options for ES/Evasion hybrid. My favourite thing about the ascendancy is how much flexibility you have. Patient Reaper and Prolonged Pain are a must have however the others are completely optional. I'm choosing to mess around with the new Evasion/Energy Shield hybrid and Ghost Shrouds sound really cool however Weave the Arcane and Swift Killer are great choices too.

The above POB link is with just some basic gear however if you add in a 6 Link and level 20 gems you easily get up to 300k Shaper damage for stage 8 which isn't including the new damage for Scorching Ray.

The passive tree is completely open to change. Frankly I'm not impressed by the new channeling nodes and think they need a number change to even think about picking. The channeling nodes are worth half of Holy Fire cluster as well as essentially any other fire node. I imagine I will use Infused Channeling Support however it really depends on the more multiplier. If it is anything like the channeling nodes I don't think it will be that high but we can hope.

Feedback on my Soulrend Occultist build

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 10:44 PM PST

I would love to get some feedback on my build. I plan to play a soulrend ci occultist and i am playing SSF for the first time.

I am not sure, how much %inc energy shield and how much energy shield leech i would need. Soulrend has energy leech build in the skill, and i have the regeneration from Vile Bastion. Do i really need more energy shield leech from the tree?

    http://poeskilltree.com/#AAAABAMBAAFvBAcG5w5ID6sRUBGWE20UCRV-Fr8YahslG8gdTx3ZHwIi9CSLJV8miCsKLL8tHzOwNbk2xTlSQnpDVEkTS65Ms1IpUq9V4FgHWFpcQFxrXfJn_GwLbRl1nnaCeC96cHzwfbB_xoRIhMWHy4hCieCLeo9Gj_qRB5J0kx-TJ5Ugm6GbtaEvpAWnK6ebtNG1SLcwuQK7Tbv8vorBxcM6w23G98gMyBPPFc_d0B_ZW91f34ri9-OE5ljpAuwY7-vxivRx99c=

Currently i have 201% inc energy shield, 1,4% Spell Damage leeched as energy shield, 160% inc Chaos Damage and 119% inc Damage over Time. Planing to use 3 curses, despair, enfeeble and temp chains and the new aura with inc damage over time.

And i am unsure how to get good single target damage. I know that we dont have the numbers on soul rend yet, but i not sure it will have good damage for single target. Maybe a wither totem would help?

    Any feedback would be appreciated

It's that time again-- Making league starters and reviewing builds for viewers!

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 10:52 AM PST

As tradition, I normally come and do hours and hours of theorycraft / build making for myself and others before the new league launch.

You can post here, pm me, or visit my stream if you want me to create or review something live.

Patch notes aren't live yet, but most of the time we can get enough done regardless. I should be actively doing this until the time of league start!

EDIT : PASTEBINS FOR THOSE THAT REQUESTED:

    -- Purifying Flame Chieftan https://pastebin.com/PRaPQAb6

    -- Shattering Steel Gladiator https://pastebin.com/xrKqdHN2

-- Tidebreaker Conc-path Chieftan https://pastebin.com/YX4QUy3W (was excellent in Betrayal)

-- Viper Strike BERSERKER (acro - wasps nests) https://pastebin.com/5xLhNkai

Today we only actually got 4-5 builds down on a tree, but we talked a ton of theory, some of which revolves around patch notes and gem reveals. The theory was incredibly productive, and we have a couple builds in mind that will be nasty, but not yet finalized. I'll take a break, and then get back to everyone.

    Questions about new patch

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 07:11 PM PST

Hi guys, been wanting to play a new build for the new league and wanted to ask a few questions,

Firstly, i'm wanting to play a chaos build and with the buffs to the chaos spells and the new aura coming in does anyone have any idea of what the main skill should be and any setups that will be strong, as well as the ascendancy (im assuming it should be CI occultist) and whether or not it will be worth going dual/tri curse (yet again i'm assuming atleast dual curse).

Secondly, are those buffs to EK as good as the seem, will they make it a top tier spell?

Thirdly, any sleeper spells that could be strong based on the buffs we've seen

So how significant are the Blade Vortex nerfs?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 01:58 AM PST

So I'm no expert builder. My favorite go-to league starter is and remains a life-based MoM Blade Vortex shadow build. The tree looks pretty similar for the most part, but the gem...

Mana Cost at gem level 20 is now 16 (was 19).

Now deals 3 to 5 Physical damage at gem level 1 (from 7 to 10) and 101 to 151 Physical damage at gem level 20 (from 123 to 185).

Now has an added damage effectiveness of 25% (from 30%).

I... honestly am not sure how to parse that. That seems like a pretty huge nerf. And given that my build was never exactly an endgame monster (this may admittedly be down to poor gear), should I be worried that current Blade Vortex strats will lack damage after this nerf?

Newish player needs build help for new league - Melee dual wield build

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 01:49 AM PST

I've played about 40 hours of standard so far and loving the game.

I've tried a storm brand witch, caustic arrow bow build and a random melee build I tried first. Furthest I've got is Act 7 around level 50 with the witch.

Now looking forward to starting fresh in the new league and I've come to the conclusion that for the new league I'd like to play a melee character, it's mostly just for fun and I'm not trying to be particularly competitive although I would like to eventually be able to do stuff at end game with the build.

Was hoping someone could suggest or make me a viable build that hits some or all of my criteria:

    - Melee

    - Ideally dual wield, just for aesthetics more than anything (I like the dual dagger assassin type vibe)

    - Fast movement speed

    - Decent damage both aoe and single target

    - Good survivability

    - Relatively easy to play - I'm still quite new and not the best player so a bit of room for error is helpful. I like the builds with a couple of attack skills and then lots of toggle stuff

    - Budget to build

    - A relatively in depth passive/gem guide for levelling

I know I'm asking for a lot, so anything that ticks most of those boxes would be great.

Anyone have experience with flame totem chieftain/hierophant? Looking for opinions on the build in 3.6

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 05:05 AM PST

Flame totem changing to physical with 50% conversion and increasing crit chance on enemies near them (through consecrated ground) instantly made me think of chieftain with his phys conversion and totem leech, looking for people that can comment on the power of the build before and what they thing will happen after 3.6 because im thinking of using it as a starter. Hierophant is also an obvious option for totems, though I might try shockwave if I go hierophant.

    Opinions anyone?

[help]Low life Divine Ire Guardian. Reality check needed.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 04:49 AM PST

So, i have an idea, for Divine Ire build. with Herald of Purity for flat phys and Guardian's nodes also synergies with Ire very well. Not sure which is better, Radiant Faith or Bastion of Hope, depends on how good Radiant Faith without investing in Life or Mana. For mana reservation: Discipline, Wrath, Herald of Purity with 9% unreserved mana left, Zelotry aura for life reservation. or defencive curse + blasphemy instead of Zelotry/Wrath if build too squishy or too mana hungry.

Skill tree WIP: https://pastebin.com/Df2GU5Hr i'd love if you could suggest me a better routing, i'd like to get more %ES and/or ES regen, but i don't know what should i sacrifice for it. i think ~160% is puny.

p.s. i don't wanna go Inquisitor, becuase i don't think he's better for ES build, and his nodes not very interesting. and i don't wanna go Witch, because i played Witch for last few years every league, wanna try something new.

    [SSF League starter?] Blight build

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 04:35 AM PST

    Hello guys,

I am playing solo self found for a while now, but I missed last league and did not keep up to date. I want to play a Blight build, possible using Abyssal cry and maybe Death's Oath armor if I manage to get one.

My question is what are the best options to do so? I am considering whether I should go Occultist, Trickster or maybe Guardian/Hierophant. The general idea is to switch to ES relatively early for SSF when I prepare my gear and the goal for this league is to actually go end game.

Usually before I spent my time crafting, leveling at low level maps and just obtaining high level bases for crafting through Delve or a few high level maps, but this time around I am actually interested in making 100% atlas completion, fighting Elder/Shaper. And engaging as much as possible with the new league content.

    Additional goals I've set is:

    - Second build that is either Low Life or CI Whispering Ice and fully geared for later on in the game.

    - Crafting a lot. I love crafting and I've always crafted a lot in all leagues and even when I play non-SSF I do not purchase items.

What I've come up so far with is starting as a Witch + Flame Totem and level up the necessary gems for Blight in my weapon swap. Afterwords, switching to full blight build at around level 18 blight gem.

Please, keep in mind I've never played blight before, but it really is visually appealing and I am wondering if you could share an advise on how to go for it. Skill tree and etc.

Looking for an easy starter build

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 04:22 AM PST

I started playing in 3.5 but stopped playing after finishing the story. Now I'm looking for a starter build for 3.6 to also do end game content. Since I'm not that amazing at the game I'd like a build that's relatively easy to play and also pretty cheap! Preferably melee but I don't mind trying other playstyles. If you got any ideas please let me know!

    Uberlab farmer

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 04:21 AM PST

I'm looking for league start lab farmer that also could smoothly reach high tier reds. At the moment im thinking either about some kide of jugg or toxic rain PF (but I really love the idea of paying zero attention and still being unkillable) . In betrayal i was running labs with attspd focused ms jugg that was fast in lab, ok at clear and could easly facetank anyting up to shaper with low investments but I kinda feel that I'll burn out really quickly playing the same build again, was hoping for some nerfs/buffs that would help me decide but patch notes were kinda disappointing.

    Trickster or Inquisitor?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 09:55 PM PST

Hey folks, like many others today I am struggling to pick a build now after the new 3.6 patch notes and have come here seeking advice from some knowledgeable veterans!

I'm a softcore pleb but would like to hit 36+ challenges and down Uber Elder this league and am looking for a "meta" build capable/strong enough of accomplishing these modest goals.

Not too familiar with the new skills and changes and how they interact or what's looking OP/gutted, but if someone can suggest a skill or build to look into I can figure out the rest.

    Thanks, see you in Wraeclast.

    Life-Based MoM/EB Frost Build - feedback wanted

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 03:45 AM PST

Hi there, I'm still kind of new to building and would love some critique on a build I'm going to try out in the coming patch.

    Here's the tree.

It's pretty straightforward - run around the tree, pick up all the life nodes, a couple of key spell, crit, AOE, and DoT, and some alternative defense in MoM and Eldritch Battery. Probably going to be using Cold Snap as my main DPS, with Arctic Breath as a booster.

    My main questions here:

    • Elementalist seems like the natural choice, even given that Occultist has the DoT nodes. But I'm up in the air between Paragon of Calamity (necessary to run reflect maps, plus the leech is nice), Mastermind of Discord (25% cold pen is kinda awesome), and Beacon of Ruin (chill propagation is nice). Beacon of Ruin does seem like the weakest one, though.

    • Is this enough life? I'm not going to be able to run much armor/EV gear given how heavy I'm specced into int, so I'm kinda relying on MoM to do some real heavy lifting in keeping me alive. I can probably get up past 6K life with decent gear and this tree, but it still seems a little lacking... any way I can shore that up?

    • Will this have enough damage? I'm running crit stuff, maybe I should run more crit stuff? Maybe a Winter's Bounty and pick up some extra power charges? I'm actually not sure how crit interacts with cold DoT, does that even make sense, or should I just suck it up and run Elemental Overload like every other DoT build?

Basically I'm just unsure if the concept works. I'd run ES, but I really do not like ES builds, especially as league starters.

    Thanks in advance!

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 09:27 PM PST

Question for other people planning to do soul rend with ED for single target, how are you planning to link the ED? I want to use a scepter or dagger for shield charge/wb and I don't want to weapon swap either. Guess I'm just stuck with a 4L ED then? Will it be enough damage for single target?

    With the Discharge Buffs

    Posted: 06 Mar 2019 03:14 AM PST

Could we potentially make a viable "fakener" again? I've been missing it like crazy.

    Discharge

    • Mana Cost at gem level 1 is now 13 (was 24).
    • Mana Cost at gem level 20 is now 25 (was 47).
    • Now has a cast time of 0.75 seconds (from 1 second).
    • Now deals 5 to 93 Lightning damage per Power Charge removed at gem level 1 (from 4 to 77) and 34 to 651 Lighting damage per Power Charge removed at gem level 20 (from 31 to 589).
    • Now deals 35 to 52 Fire damage per Endurance Charge removed at gem level 1 (from 29 to 43) and 244 to 365 Fire damage per Endurance Charge removed at gem level 20 (from 221 to 331).
    • Now deals 29 to 43 Cold damage per Frenzy Charge removed at gem level 1 (from 24 to 36) and 199 to 299 Cold damage per Frenzy Charge removed at gem level 20 (from 180 to 271).

Could this make it viable, does the cast time actually change anything since we don't selfcast?

I know people has played Discharge with CoC/cyclone with decent results in the latest league, hopefully this bumps it up a bit.
