This game is terrible at letting you know what killed you

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 10:40 PM PDT

I'm relatively new, I'm mapping for the first time ever after trying to get to end-game for about 4 leagues and never have I encountered a game that is as inept at Path of Exile is at telling you what kills you.

For a game that takes experience away for dying I think this is unconscionable. ESPECIALLY as a new player.

    No death summary.

Bloated screen visuals covering up or otherwise muddling death fields.

Virtually no time to read monster affixes because of proximity.

I don't know what kills me about 75% of the time while mapping, I'll have full health, there's no fields on the ground, I'll get hit maybe once or twice from a pack, and even with a life flask going i'll degen to 0 within a few seconds. This takes away my ability to counterplay, I don't know what happened because all the visual indicators I had were clear and yet...dead, lost experience, lost time and investment.

If I'm investing in the time to earn experience I should be given the information required to know why or how I lost that experience.

There's simply too much going on for new players to know how or why they died and to play around that without better systems I think.

I'm sure veterans have no issues, but that's not the entirety of the player base and every veteran was new at some point and I think PoE, which has the ARPG genre basically to itself right now, could really improve on the information provided regarding deaths.

With all the Divine Ire Builds, I really feel bad for The Elder

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 09:14 AM PDT

I ran 1000 T16 Elder Lair maps, here are the map sustain results.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 10:07 AM PDT

If you are interested in the T11 shaped version, check this thread instead.

I ran 1000 T16 Elder Lair, and took notes of the T16 map drops per map and per memory.

This was the setup used per map:

    • Always 20% quality or more

    • 1 fragment per map

    • 4 sextants per map (at least 2 of these: extra mobs, abyss, etc)

    • 150/159 atlas bonus, this means I don't have any guardian or T15 completed, excluding a shaped T10 map (moon temple).

    • elder or shaper influence

    • 80+ quantity and 26+ quantity

    • bloodlines zana mod (unless it already has it, then beyond)

Tier 15 map drops are traded for chaos to sustain the currency used (frags, sextants), lower tiers are traded for chisels.

I started with a pool of 20 T16, and here are the results:

    https://i.imgur.com/ylXnQEe.png

This graph represents my total map pool of T16 Elder Lair (regarding that I started with 20), stating where did the map drop, either in the map or in the memory.

I did not count the maps dropped in Zana missions, temples, delves or nexus, since that would be harded to analyze, and includes several layers extra of RNG.

I barely sustained the map if I exclude the maps obtained in memories.

Making a brief analysis of the data, we can somehow fit a normal distribution to it, obtaining something like this

    https://i.imgur.com/3mj8VtP.png

This means that you will drop 1 T16 map at least half of the runs.

This also means that, in average, half of the players will not sustain the map with pure drops, even using all the tools available to juice the maps.

Hope you find it useful, exiles.

You know synth-crafting feels bad for the average player when no one has yet requested to put the Synthesiser into the hideout

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:19 PM PDT

I think the newly suggested improvement from u/znowu for the synthesiser is really good though

You can 'easily' get the 75,000% map grind challenge by chaining Olmec's Sanctums in parties of 4-5

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 01:25 PM PDT

The map Olmec's Sanctum is a very fast and easy way to get that challenge done.

I managed to get over 25k map quantity in a span of about 2 hours today by chaining those with 3-4 other people.

Why Olmec's? Because of it's massive quantity.

At it's worst, it's a "badly" rolled 8 modded map.

The idea is that you assign each party member to a corner of the map and run those, then gather up at mid(or have someone waiting in middle already) to quickly kill the final boss.

Here is an example of one of my runs:

    https://imgur.com/Ez1PFxt

You can easily do each map in 20-30 seconds with a well cooridnated, fast and strong party.

I pretty much bought every single map for 2 chaos(or 4 chisels), and had others contribute maps as well, so the cost wasn't even that big.

Credit to /u/slipperyjim8 for the idea!

LVL 33 Spell damage vs LVL 21

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 09:08 AM PDT

Because of the influx of lvl 33 spell bows, I decided to check totems and all blue spells vs their lvl 21 counterparts.

I broke it down as a more increase, since it affects the base damage. A few points of note though, some spells gain other benefits such as increased area, more chains, etc. Also since you are using a lvl 4 empower to get a lvl 33 spell, you will be losing roughly a 40% more multiplier on average (not the same for every spell), there are much too many variables in this calc for me to optimize every spell and figure out what you are losing. (not willing to put in that much work)

Some interesting notes, the worst spell increase was Arc with a 145% more Ice Spear with 120% more, the best one was Soul Rend with a massive 316% more damage for its hit and equally massive 225% more multiplier for its DOT (good luck getting 225% more damage with dot through wands, wand+ shield, or staff)

Other notables are most dots got a 200%+ more increase so the bows seem best for DOT builds.

Lightning tendrils and Lightning Spire Trap both had 216% and 220% more increases respectably.

The rest of the numbers are all over the place.

Overall the Channelling spells and DOTs seem to come out the best. But it is a case by case basis. Still things to consider when you compare lvl 33 spell vs lvl 21, and the fact you are losing a support gem and 2 wands or wand+ shield damage increases.

You also gain a quiver, which can help bridge the gap as well. Some notables would be Signal fire if you are using a physical damage spell for the 35% more damage as fire, or Rigwalds quills for a free fork on projectiles (if they don't pierce)

If you see any problems, please let me know and I'll update.

If I see any mistakes I'll update ASAP.

Edit: sergeantminor gave a great reply that points out why sometimes its not the best to go full for gem levels over some other implicits.

Lots of lags on PoE despite good computer.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 02:32 AM PDT

Hey guys, I started playing PoE again at the beginning of the league, and I am playing it on a new computer with following specs : i7-9700k 2080Ti 16Go RAM 3200Mhz

So it's a good computer, I play The Divison 2 4k without any problem. But, when it comes to PoE (at play PoE at 1920*1080), first, I can't lock at 144FPS and it triggers me because when I play I have around 300FPS, but for nothing, my CPU is working too much for no reason. Is there a way to cap at 144 ? If yes I can't find it.

Then, even when I have 300fps it feels like I have 60 in terms of feeling. It's laggy like stuttering some times.

My game is installed on SSD and it's the only game I have a problem with. Would appreciate help.

Maybe the game doesn't like dual screen setup ?

After 30 nexus bosses ripped first cortex ... ffs

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 05:45 AM PDT

It took 3 weeks to spawn first cortex and i ripped with like 10% of his lie left in 4th round.

Nexus is not as bad as before but it took way to long to spawn cortex. Once I got in, I'm not sure if the boss has strange mechanics or I had lag but two deaths were like "what exactly happened?".

Does anyone have a detIled guide explaining cortex fight?

Pretty depressing to wait for weeks for an attempt and RIP.
