Unpopular Opinion - Cyclone Doesn't Need A Nerf - Buff other melee QoL instead

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 10:52 PM PDT

Many of the changes to melee in Legion (and spells in the previous league, for that matter) worked to address issues with DPS/ raw damage of certain builds. Many of those changes were great, but ultimately these skills didn't need damage to be more viable. A vast majority of skills in the game are missing QoL, AoE, and other important factors instead.

Take for example Viper Strike - The scaling damage on this skill can get absolutely absurd, but it isn't meta. Why isn't it meta? Viper Strike has basically zero AoE, crappy targeting, and a slow initial "wind-up" to get the poison damage rolling. In maps, you could say you have "700k dps with zero currency investment whatsoever," but running into a pack of monsters means stopping and nearly-instantly killing enemies one or two at a time. Is this practical? No. Why would you try to focus down small enemies with big damage, rather than have a moderate amount of damage spread over all enemies in the pack? In this situation, you could try "Ancestral Call" or "Melee Splash" to spread things out, but you are wasting a gem slot compared to other skills. In addition, these gems can actively inhibit your damage output.

The above is only *one* skill, but a VAST majority of skills (not just melee) have the same issue. Glacial Hammer? High damage but is slow, has bad AoE, and is impractical in most situations. Tectonic Slam had its numbers buffed, but is inconsistent and can mess with your survivability. Spectral Shield Throw is clunky, has poor AoE/targeting scaling, and requires SIGNIFICANT investment to be equal in clear-speed to other skills. This is just a SHORT list. Significant issues exist for a majority of the skills out there today.

All the above skills have a niche, to be sure. Each one has specific situations they excel in, but look at your average player. Most people playing Path of Exile are casual players that want to try out as much of the content as they can. Will many of these skills let you do that? No. Only buffing damage on these skills isn't going to fix that, either.

Where is Cyclone right now? Barring Headhunter builds or ridiculous builds only possible on Standard, this skill is a jack of all trades. It has fairly low single target damage, but provides high AoE, good scaling, fantastic maneuverability, and gives you the ability to keep moving while you are fighting. It is something that can complete the game's content as a whole and feels satisfying. That is what the average player wants.

Before the buffs in Legion, Cyclone was a niche skill with poor damage and badly scaling AoE, on top of being a non-channeling-channeling skill. GGG saw it had glaring issues and made it viable for your average player to enjoy. I believe the reworks to this skill were the biggest success GGG had in Legion. This skill is the poster-child for how skill reworks should be handled, at least in my opinion. Rather than nerfing this skill, I think other skills should instead be brought to its level.

The game difficulty can be ramped up if needed, but aren't you supposed to feel like a demi-God when you are fully geared in an ARPG? This league saw records broken for player activity and enjoyment over what the league has to offer and I believe that people came because of that feeling of power. Why exactly would you want to take that success away from the game?

They did the exact same thing with Molten Strike in the past. Molten Strike was a good "all-rounder" that was what melee should be more like. Instead of seeing that and buffing other melee skills accordingly, they nerfed it into the ground and said "melee is still viable".

These are my opinions on the matter. Will Cyclone be nerfed still? Probably. I think that is a mistake. I don't think that because I love cyclone, but I think nerfing Cyclone is a band-aid fix to a bigger issue the game has. If they nerf it, I suspect that they will think "that's that" and leave other skills to rot until reddit screams for them to be buffed. GGG will respond by simply "buffing the damage again" and failing to understand why no one actually plays incredibly clunky skills.

    Baeclast Q&A

    Posted: 12 Jul 2019 08:02 AM PDT

    Hey Guys

On Saturday the 13th at 2pm UK time, 10am EST, 7am PST. Timezones are weird so double check the countdown timer linked at the bottom. The Baeclast peeps Raiz, Nugi, Octavian, and myself will be having an episode talking, league retention, and bloat with each new mechanic added to the core game.

However, this time 'round we want to add a Q&A into the episode. So any questions you have, be it PoE or W/E for any of the cast members let us know.

As always if you can't catch the episode live on twitch.tv/tarkecat it will be uploaded on my YouTube and since some people still don't know we post 10 - 20 minute topic highlights on Raiz's YouTube after each episode.

EDIT Updated timer, had the wrong date by mistake my bad. https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20190713T14&p0=297&msg=Baeclast+%2344+League+Erosion+%26+Q%26A&font=cursive

5,760 Stacked Decks Opening - Full Quad Tab Story There and Back Again

Hello, my name is LeetusBrutalis and I am a co-host with Novatic on twitch.tv/novatic where we play ARPG's and other fun games. Currently, he is not streaming Path but I am doing Videos as we are getting out youtube setup. Now on to the goodies I decided to save up a whole quad tab full of Stacked decks and open them. Skip to the end of the video if you don't want to see some of the openings as it is a long one sorry. It took me roughly 3 hours to film the whole thing so I had to shorten it down and a lot of the drops I didn't include for time sake. Enjoy and any questions I can answer that you dont get from the video itself :D

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA5L2X9kV7E&feature=youtu.be

TLDW; https://youtu.be/VA5L2X9kV7E?t=5467 This is the wrapup if you don't want to watch the whole video.

After reading alot fo the comments tomorrow I will be doing another video posting with Currency Cop on how much money I have in cards for the crap ones and the good ones to give a total value as well as opening The Void Cards and other various full stacks I have. Thanks everyone who upvoted or liked the video as well :D

"Snipit of Currency Cop for now until I can make the Video, total holdings of the Cards = 37958c which is about 223 ex and I spent about 150 ex. This is for everyone wanting to see some sort of profit."

This would happen all the time and the only way to get it to work again was to leap slam then go back to cyclone again. This is the main reason why I quit using cyclone this league. This is on the Xbox one x.

The Doctor Drop Rate Data Compilation and Analysis thread.

    Posted: 12 Jul 2019 06:17 AM PDT

Edit: After reading the comments, my approach has holes. So, I'm changing this thread - I would like participants to set up standard burials farming and data tracking. Everyone run same investment (alch/go or alch/chisel/go) with standard gear (45%+ Quant). Slippery Jim did the leg work on the last 10k. And it was awesome. But it's old data, and its a relatively small sample size (not for one person, but for "the doctor" specifically the variance of drops has been too large to get a good average).

TL;DR - if you want to help out, please direct message me and i will link you to new spreadsheet for data tracking. Probably going to be just doctors and raw currency tracking for simplicity.

    Lost 90ex due to overeagerness

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 10:12 PM PDT

Stuck in traffic so I thought I'd share my shitty story.

After alting for ages I finally got dictator's on my foil along with chance to bleed suffix. Then I regal into flaring and I'm fucking pumped but little sad that I'd have to annul for the bleed.

After thinking for 10 minutes and due to the excitement I decide to annul because I'd have to go to work soon and I'd hate to have that lingering in my mind. Biig mistake, I annul off the flaring and I'm pretty upset.

20 minutes later I realized I could've wiped the suffixes via Mastercraft..

Probably going to be kicking myself for the entire league :(
