Consuming Dark & Voltaxic Rift - Should they be un-nerfed?

    Posted: 23 Aug 2019 11:39 PM PDT

With the amount of Elemental Penetration that is available in the game right now - I believe the un-nerf would be balanced. It would also open up some spicy build opportunities with the upcoming changes to poison.

    What does everyone else think?

    Lets talk about Guilds... Again.

    Posted: 24 Aug 2019 07:33 AM PDT

    Goodmorning/afternoon/evening.

First of all, i hope you're all having an excellent day/night.

Before i continue, please excuse any spelling mistakes, it's pretty late and i had a pretty busy week with minimal sleep.

Allow me to introduce myself, My name is Josh (or just read my reddit username) and I have been a guild leader for quite a while now (4-5 years now). I am not here to advertise my guild, I am not here to advertise anything other than my genuine thoughts on how it feels to be a guild leader in Path of Exile.

Now, my guild is my family, i treat everyone like my best friend and whenever someone is having real issues, we jump on that issue and offer advice, and recently, we helped a guild member out of a financial disaster. I try to do everything that not only a Guild leader should do, but a human should do.

I wrote a similar post in regards to guilds back in 2017, and since then, there's been barely any Quality of Life improvements. Yes, there has been a guild stash log, which is a great initiative, but I personally feel it's too little too late.

Grinding Gear Games has always been a company that strives for improvement, they're making mad cash and now there's ExileCon, with a 4.0 expansion coming up, all of this is huge news and i'm hoping there is an announcement for guild improvements somewhere in between there.

Guilds have always been about socializing, and being amongst like minded exiles who party up and do activities together, but at the moment, there's not much motive to join a guild other than to talk to people and to party up, that's great, but you can do that without a guild.

There was whispers of a Guild Hideout shortly after the Forsaken Masters release, and because of those whispers, i bought the Grandmaster supporter pack to show my support of any update like that.

Currently there are 11 towns in the game, 11. Where people from all over the place can come together, whether through partying or through gateways. How come we don't have a guild hideout yet? I feel like it's very similar to a town, mechanically, other than customizing of said hideout, but that can always be fine tuned.

This post might not go anywhere at all, it could get downvoted into oblivion, it could be ignored, it could spark a huge debate, ultimately, the main goal of this post is to show that there are some people out there that want guilds to have better in-game features. Diablo 3 does Guilds/clans well, with an in game UI detailing the guild, and all that goodness.

Also, Guilds could be monetized. If i remember correctly, there's a guild point system where you can purchase guild stash tabs. How come we can't buy the specialized tabs for the guild? even if it costs a little bit more, i'd be all for it.

I don't know how to conclude properly, this post is just out of the blue but i sincerely hope people read this, and if you're a guild leader, i'm sure you feel the same way.

Thank you for reading if you've made it this far, if not, then well, i hope you have a pleasant day regardless.

    Thank you, and goodnight.

A pre-3.8 guide to (SSF) Hardcore Necromancy

    Posted: 24 Aug 2019 01:30 PM PDT

    Introduction

Since a lot of people are going to play the Summoner archetype and the Necromancer Ascendency for the first time in Path of Exile: Blight, I wanted to write a collection of tips and tricks on playing Summoner Necromancer in general. As a seasoned player of the archetype, I've been dividing my time between the temporary Hardcore and SSF Hardcore leagues since the Legacy league, and Necromancer is quite literally the only Ascendency that I play. Although the guide is going to be written from the perspective of an SSF HC player, the advice given here apply to all eagues.

First, why play Summoner in Hardcore?

Most of you probably know this, but Summoner Necromancer is one of the most HC-friendly archetypes. You can avoid direct interaction with monsters at all time, making it an inherently safe archetype. You have no real concerns for damage reflection. You can gear almost exclusively for defensive purposes, as most of your damage comes from Skill Gems, the skill tree, and the Necromancer Ascendency, which provides a great amount of Minion offensive (and defensive) stats. In the post-campaign game, you can run almost any map modifier combinations relatively safely.

And why play Summoner in SSF?

Summoner Necromancer is also one of most SSF-friendly archetypes. There is a couple of Minion Skill Gems that will take you all the way to level 100 without any Unique Items, such as Summon Skeleton and Raise Zombie. At the same time, there is a lot of powerful Minion Unique items that can be used without changing your skill tree very much if at all, and some of them are easily obtainable, such as Mon'tregul's Grasp (obtained from a relatively common Divination card) for Raised Zombies, Bones of Ullr (a relatively common Unique item drop that you can use until you've crafted boots with a Bound fossil) for Spectres, and a couple others.

Sample Skill Trees with Skill Gems used

I know there are some people who don't want to read a lot and are just here looking for a Skill Tree and which Skill Gems to use, so for you I've provided some sample Skill Trees. This Skill Tree assumes that you are leveling up with a combination of Raging Spirits (in the first 3 Acts), Raised Zombies, Skeletons, Spectres and Summoned Phantasms. It also assumes that you are using the new upcoming Support Skill Gem Infernal Legion to take advantage of the Minion Instability Keystone. All the links provided in this post take you to Pastebin information for Path of Building builds.

    Stat Priority

    • General Stats order (Campaign): Elemental resistances > Minion Stats > Life > Movement Speed.

    • General Stats order (Post-Campaign): Elemental resistances > Life > Minion Stats > Physical damage mitigation and Chaos resistance > Movement speed.

    • General Minion Stats order: Minion Damage > Minion Accuracy (for attacking Minions only) > Skill Gem levels (except for pre-3.8 Raise Spectre) > Minion movement speed > Minion attack/cast speed > Flat damage (from Ghastly eyes and Soulwrest).

    • Ghastly Eye Abyss Jewel Minion Stats order: Life > Minion Damage (a.k.a. '#(16-20)% Increased Minion Damage if you've used a Minion Skill recently') > Minion movement speed > Minion attack/cast speed > Minion flat damage > Minion elemental resistances/% damage leeched as life/% life regen.

    • Minion Support Gems order: this one isn't always obvious. A general rule is to look at the mana multiplier of each Support Skill Gem; the higher the mana multiplier percentage, the greater the damage increase. However, this isn't always true. The best way to figure out which Support Skill Gems to choose in some cases is to look at the Path of Building calculations for your build.

    Short explanations:

    • Aside from Skill Gems and Support Skill Gem modifiers, if a source of damage doesn't have the keyword 'Minion' in it somewhere, it doesn't apply to your minions.

    • Minion Damage is the greatest modifier of damage to Minions. Think of it as 'global damage' for minions.

    • Minion Accuracy is a must-use for attacking Minions, especially Melee ones; the exception to this is Summon Skeleton, which doesn't need accuracy thanks to the Bone Sculptor Ascendency Skill.

    • Minion Active Skill Gems scale very well with Skill Gems levels, except for Raise Spectre, which scales with Monster levels instead. However, it's been mentioned that this is going to change in 3.8, so presumably Skill Gem levels will become important for Spectres too.

    • Minion Movement Speed: not only does it help you clear maps faster, it's also a soft defensive layer, as it allows you to keep your Minions in front of you more easily and without relying as much on Convocation. More important, it's a noticeable effective DPS increase against moving bosses.

    • Minion flat damage from Ghastly Eye Abyss Jewels: If you have a lot of flat damage from Jewels, there will come a point where attack/cast speed is a greater DPS increase than getting more flat damage. Check your PoB calculations for this.

    Campaign Trick and Tips

    • Act 1:

    • At lvl 2, I like to use Freezing Pulse linked to Summon Phantasm, as well as Raise Zombies and Explosive Trap.

    • You can replace Freezing Pulse with Summon Raging Spirits after completing the Breaking Some Eggs quest.

    • Look for Vaal side areas, for the Skill Gems Vaal Summon Skeletons, Vaal Detonate Dead, and Vaal Lightning Trap. These can speed up the boss-killing speed quite a bit.

    • You can also use Holy Flame Totem as a stand-alone Skill Gem for extra damage.

    • Act 2:

    • You want to do the Einhar quest, because at low levels, Red beasts can be turned into useful Unique items, such as a Tabula Rasa if you're lucky.

    • This is purely optional, but I like to complete the Through Sacred Ground quest for the Survival Instincts Unique Jewel, since Dexterity and Elemental Resistances are stats that Summoners are often starved of in SSF.

    • Act 3:

    • You want to complete the Siosa quest in The Library as soon as possible, to get the Skill Gems Generosity, Precision, War Banner, Haste and Flesh and Stone.

    • Start looking for Utility Flask drops, especially Bismuth Flask (to patch up your potentially low elemental resistances), Amethyst Flask (for certain Vaal side area bosses and the Act 7 final boss in the second part of the Campaign), and the three Elemental Resistance flasks.

    • If you are using Raise Spectre, you can go back to Act 1 The Ledge and add the Cannibal Fire-Eater Monster to your Desecrate Monster table. They work well in a 4-link item with Minion Damage, Faster Projectiles (which you can also get from Siosa) and Summon Phantasm.

    • At around lvl 30, you can do the Normal Labyrinth. 700 HP is a safe number against Izaro.

    • Act 4:

    • After completing the Niko quest, go look at your Azurite Mine map to see if you have an early Petrified Forest biome. It's a long shot, but if you do, you can theoretically find a Bound Fossil and craft +1 Spectre rare boots early on.

    • 1000 HP is a safe number against Malachai.

    • Act 5:

    • If you're using Raise Spectre, you can start using Slave Drivers, which spawn in The Control Blocks. They work well in a 4-link item with Minion Damage, Spell Echo and Elemental Focus. To take advantage of Elemental Equilibrium, you want to use Storm Brand with the Avatar of Fire Keystone. Another alternative is to use Cold Snap for the Frenzy Charges and to save one skill point.

    • You don't have to do this, but here I like to rush to the Chamber Innocence and farm there until lvl 47-49. The mob density there is great.

    • After the Innocence fight, you can get a Violent Dead Unique jewel as a reward. Later you can repeat the quest on another character to get a set of two of these for a Raise Zombie build.

    • 1700 HP is a safe number against Kitava, though it's possible to do it with a lot less than that if you are adept at the fight.

    • Act 6:

    • Abysses start appearing in this Act. You want to do them to get some Ghastly Eye Jewels. A lot of the good modifiers for Minions are available at relatively low item levels (see here), so you can start looking for them right away.

    • A safe and reliable strategy to kill The Brine King is to simply teleport out and then back into the fight every time he goes into the immunity phase of the fight. By taking advantage of the 30 second grace period, you are completely immune to damage yourself and you can simply wait till he's no longer immune to start moving and attacking again.

    • Act 7:

    • At this point, if you've been following my PoB skill tree progression (see above for sample Skill Trees), bosses like Gruthkul and Arakaali should be no problem, as you'll be bursting down in a few seconds. With Elemental Equilibrium and Vaal Lightning trap alone, your Minions will be bursting through their Life bars like a knife cutting through hot butter.

    • You can also start using an Amethyst Flask for extra safety against some of the Chaos projectile damage minions that start appearing more frequently, particularly in The Causeway, The Vaal City and The Temple of Decay Level 1 and 2, as well as in some of the Vaal side areas, and in certain Incursion rooms if you choose to do that.

    • Act 8:

    • I highly recommend doing the Cruel Labyrinth for the Spectre or Skeleton Ascendency skill before doing Doedre, as it's a substantial damage boost to your Minions and it will help take this boss more quickly and thus more safely. 2000-2500 HP is the safe range against Izaro.

    • You can get the Solar Guard and Frost Sentinel Spectres from The Solaris Temple and The Lunaris Temple respectively. These two Monsters make for of the best Spectres in the game AI- and damage-wise and Frost Sentinels are especially good at killing stuff from afar.

    • Act 9:

    • Here you might be tempted to farm a Tabula Rasa in The Blood Aqueducts, but I don't recommend it, because a 6-link setup isn't necessary for Necromancer Summoner; you can comfortably get to Red maps with a couple of 5-link and 4-link setups for your Minions, and the defensive stats you get from a rare chest are more useful.

    • Act 10:

    • Like with Act 8 Doedre, I like to do the Merciless Labyrinth because taking on Kitava. A safe HP range for both Izaro and Kitava is 3500-4000, though it's possible to do both with far less than that depending on your gear and other defensive layers and your game experience.

    Post-Campaign Objectives and Considerations

Mapping in SSFHC is a completely different game compared to playing in softcore trade league, but I'll mention a couple things that are more specific to the Necromancer Summoner archetype.

    • Einhar: There's a lot of Unique items that are good for Summoner, and Einhar mission beasts are generally safe to kill for Minion builds, so I'd recommend doing every Einhar mission you come across. Later when you start Red maps, you can find Fenumal Hybrid Arachnid, the beast that takes you to Fenumus' Lair; with Fenumus, First of the Night, you can beastcraft the Aspect of the Spider suffix onto a rare item, and this Aspect is very powerful for Summoner builds, it's up there with Flesh and Stone in terms of importance.

    • Alva: The Temple of Atzoatl (see Incursion cheat sheet here) can be a highly rewarding place for a lot of reasons in SSF, and this is a subject that is beyond the scope of this guide, but in White maps, Incursion rooms are usually safe to clear for Summoner. Just bring an Amethyst Flask with you to be safe, and spam it upon entering Incursion rooms, just so you don't get killed from a barrage of Chaos projectile spells.

    • Jun: Jun missions can be super rippy, even in White maps. Like with The Temple of Atzoatl, Syndicate Hideouts can be highly rewarding, but it's beyond the scope of this guide. I would consider auto-skipping the missions in anything more difficult than a Tier 2 magic map, until you have at least 5000 HPs and a decent amount of chaos resistance and physical damage mitigation. In terms of which veiled mods to look for, the priority ones are Minion damage/minion life and Minion attack/cast speed on weapon, and +1 Zombie/+1 Skeleton on helmet and chest.

    • Zana: The Zana mission you're looking for first is the Labyrinth Trial one, until you've completed all six trials for the Eternal Labyrinth. If this isn't an option, go for the Abyss mission (for a chance to get a Stygian Vise belt base from Abyssal Depths, and for Ghastly Eye Abyss Jewels). If this isn't an option either, go for either the highest map tier available OR for the highest map tier available in the quadrant of the Atlas that you are focusing on (see more about that below).

    • Niko: This is your priority master for Summoner gear and Summoner gear-crafting. Some great Summoner items and crafting items are found in the Azurite Mine. Necromancer can't delve very deep safely, but Zombies (and to a lesser extent, Minions in general) are great at delving. In the Azurite Mine, your priority are: 1) Petrified Forest and Magma Fissure checkpoints, for Bound and Pristine Fossils respectively; 2) Vaal and Abyss city areas for great loot and experience; 3) the rare 'Minion' event which can spawn the 'Grim Armours' treasure for rare +1 Spectre chests (a drop-only prefix, see the list of drop-only Delve mods here. Bound fossils can be used to craft +1 Spectre on boots or' #(3-5)% Reduced Mana Reserved' on helmets. About safety in the Azurite Mine, the most dangerous source of damage is arguably Cold, from those Cold damage-based spikey area explosions, so you should use a Sapphire Flask and the Soul of Yugul Pantheon power. Generally, though, which safety measures to use depends on which biome you're delving in; for example, for Petrified Forest, Chaos damage from Zombies in the form of Caustic Clouds can be a concern, whereas for Magma Fissure, burning ground can be concern.

    • Atlas: The quadrant of the Atlas you'll want to focus on is whichever quadrant the new Convoking Wand base will be found in. Other than that, the top left quadrant is a good one to focus on, since it's the one the Bone Helmet base is found in. If you're going to set up your Atlas for any map, I'd recommend that it be the Tower map, for the The Tower Divination card, which can get you Pledge of Hands (for Slave Driver Spectres), Soulwrest, Femurs of the Saints (for some lag-induced fun with Vaal Summon Skeletons), or Dying Breath for your Animated Guardian. Other maps to consider would be Relic Chambers, for the Astramentis Divination Card, Arsenal, for the Jack in the Box Divination Card, Two-Toned Boots, and some other stuff), or Grotto, for the Mon'tregul's Grasp Divination Card for Zombies.

    • "Chancing" items: It's better to keep your Orbs of Chance to buy maps from Zana at the beginning, but for later into the league, some good bases to chance would be: Cobalt Jewel, for To Dust, From Dust,, the new Fortress Covenant, and Dead Reckoning,, among others; Ezomyte Staff, for Soulwrest; and Necromancer Silks, for Vis Mortis (+1 Spectre chest).

    • *Animated Guardian gear:" Before you gear your Animated Guardian, and to minimize its risk of dying, it should be lvl 20 and linked to at least Minion Life; Empower lvl 3 and Skill Gem levels in general also help a great deal for survivability. Some relatively easily obtainable items to look for include: Southbound gloves, the Zahndethus' Cassock chest, the Victario's Flight boots, the Leer Cast helmet, and the Dying Breath staff.

    Final Words

This guide is a Work in Progress, and there's probably more stuff that will be added by the time I post this on the official forums. Also, as more information is revealed about 3.8, some sections of this guide might change drastically, and a lot of new information might be added. If you've read this far, thank you for taking the time to read my post and please leave some feedback in the comment, I'm always looking to improve! :) You can also send me a PM for any questions on Necromancer, Summoner and PoE in general, and I'll do my best to answer.

Not to be a downer, but temper your expectations with respect to finding all the cool gear/oils/whatever getting teased right now.

    Posted: 23 Aug 2019 07:14 PM PDT

If prior experience has taught us anything, it's that you may not ever actually encounter the cool and exciting things GGG posts on reddit. Things range from obnoxiously uncommon (onslaught boots) to absurdly rare (Atziri's Reflection) to, at least as far as I'm aware, literally just not even in the game (+1 totem crafting recipe).

Don't get me wrong, it's good to be excited about new things and new leagues; I'm excited too! Just, y'know, don't plan any starter builds around these things, or even necessarily expect to interact with them at all, ever. I don't want you all to be disappointed when it turns out that there're about a dozen copies league-wide of that awesome thing you wanted to play around with.

If Blight league is going to be the league of the Summoner, can GGG please at least make Skeletons work with Convocation?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2019 01:37 PM PDT

    Title.

I think because for some reason Skeletons don't count as "following you" they unfortunately don't get teleported to you with convocaton.

This would be an incredible QoL for skelemancers.
