5 Quick Lore Facts You May Not Know - #16 Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:01 AM PDT Special shoutout to /u/Bendicantmias and u/Valcrion for continuing the series while I was gone! Also happy to see people are still into it. Thanks for all the kind words. 1: General Gravicious had a wife. She cheated on him with a younger guy. Gravicious used almost all of the Blackguard legions to try and find him, but Hargan smuggled him out of the city. Hargan has been avoiding Gravicious ever since. Source: Hargan, Act 3, Sarn Encampment 2: Maramoa used to take care of Clarissa. Then Tolman arrived at the camp, and Clarissa started hanging out with him. Maramoa held a grudge against Tolman for that. She's more sad that Clarissa is depressed than that Tolman was tortured to death. Maramoa, Act 3 and Act 8, Sarn Encampment 3: According to Tasuni, the reason Deshret's sprit (the spirit you free in the Mines in Act 4) was not corrupted by Malachai's servants after death was because she was basically too uneducated to understand what they were trying to do to her. Post-Lootboxalyptic Survival - An Update Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:33 AM PDT EDIT3: Thanks for the gold! But if you've seen the previous thread, you know what I'm gonna say. Please don't give me gold; donate it to a local charity for addiction recovery instead. Hello everyone! My name is Cadence, you may remember me from my previous post in which I showed the exchange between GGG support and myself, where I asked to be barred from the proverbial casino. Well, it's August; in fact, it's almost September, and a nearly triple digit number of people have been DMing me to provide an update. I have held back on doing so, because I felt like it would be too off topic for the sub, but fuck me, y'all are relentless, and my poor inbox is begging for mercy. So, with the permission of the moderation team, I'd like to answer a few of the more common questions. Anyway. So what's happened since? I have checked into therapy, and I was taught a number of coping techniques. Turns out addiction isn't really something you 'beat'; it's something you just cope with, and you do your best. It sucks ass, if I'm being quite honest, and it's way too easy to just fall down a different rabbit hole with the same end result. However, I'm proud to say that I have not bought a single lootbox, neither in Path of Exile (not that I could), or in any other game since the last post; as of today, I am exactly 250 days clean. Good thing, too, 'cuz my income's shot to shit. The old thread was in a Verge article - was there anything else like it? Yeah, eleven people reached out for an interview overall; the Verge interview was the only one I accepted, because I could trust the writer of the article, Makena Kelly. I turned down a few high profile ones, like the BBC (Sorry, Tobias) for various reasons; not respecting my anonymity was a big stickler in general. There were also a bunch of gaming sites and tech sites literally just copy pasting bits of the thread. Some sites were so lazy, they didn't even bother spelling my name right, and I've had my own story explained back to me on Twitter. Bonus points - the author of the article blocked me on Twitter for asking for a correction. The story made the rounds on Youtube as well, it was kind of bizarre to hear Heelvsbabyface talk about the thread. Do you still play Path of Exile? Yes. Although I haven't had fun with Legion and Synthesis all that much, I'll be coming back for Blight. I still haven't decided what to play - okay, that's a lie, I'll be playing a Necromancer -, I'm waiting for the teasers to be over before making a build. Maybe I'll make an MSPaint shitpost about it this time; I always wanted to try. What about the ban? Did you extend it? Yep. My therapist suggested that I do, even if I'm doing well otherwise; it's best to just remove the temptation entirely to avoid a relapse - and it's easier to say no with the promise that I can get back to it Maybe Sometime In The Future If I Want To™. Did anything good come of the thread? I'unno. I've had a bunch of people DM me stories similar to mine, and the Discourse™ around lootboxes is still ongoing. I made some friends through commiserations, so that alone was worth it. The hundreds of people mocking me for being an addict in DMs is surprisingly easy to deal with, and I don't mind them all that much. Closing thoughts: I was blown away with how supportive the community was when I originally posted the thread; I am grateful for that. Sort of a "Faith in humanity, restored" moment, really. Thanks, folks. If you're going through anything like what I'm going through, please, reach out and get help. You have control over your life, and you don't have to struggle alone. Relying on others is Good Actually™ - and reminder that GGG support has the ability to limit your account features. Thanks to the mod team for allowing an off-topic thread. Thank you to every single person who reached out, asking for an update. Thank you to all of you who shared your stories with me in either public, or private. Thank you to everyone who engaged in Discourse™ during the original thread. Thank you, r/pathofexile, for being a subreddit where I can feel safe. I'm looking forward to seeing y'all ingame on Blight HC again. EDIT1: Spelling. EDIT2: Replaced a word. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Aug 2019 09:53 AM PDT Was going to post it on the thread about being tired of running thru PoE Campaign. But I think it´s valid to make a new thread to discuss this new thing. With Delve Sulphite being account bound, instead of per character, we can actually power level thru delve with new characters. A easy way for GGG to make this an valid alternate second plus characters in a league is to make act 1 to act 10 waypoints available to any league-character in your account. What it essentially does is enabling you to skip the motions of going thru act 1 to act 10, and instead level in Delve and just use waypoints to kill the act bosses. So New League goes:
Without GGG support, you can do this just fine coming 3.8. [link] [comments]
Dreading the unveil grind in 3.8? Consider skipping it. [analysis] Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:12 PM PDT tl;dr :: If you make less than 50-100exa per league (which is 99+% of the playerbase), you should not unveil a single item. Sell your veiled items in bulk instead, and use that currency to buy pre-crafted items -- and a lot else besides! I personally followed this strategy in 3.7, and I can say that it massively improved my experience in Legion. Be aware that the following only applies to Veiled mods. Normal benchcraft mods from story progression, plaques in boss encounters, etc., are completely 100% worth getting, since they are effectively free or negligibly cheap. Also, for most of the following, I will exclude Master-specific affixes such as Vagan's "hits cannot be evaded" mod. I'll deal with these at the end. So, you need to unveil a lot of items to get a complete bench. According to the wiki and some math, it requires a minimum of 1735 unveils before you have a complete master bench. Not everyone needs every basic unveil mod, so let's be really conservative and say that you only need to unveil 500 items before you have the mods you personally need. Then, think about this: How much does it cost you to unveil 500 items? Of course, it costs the time and tedium. It also costs some amount of currency because you could have sold those unveils instead. The market for unveiled items is very active in my experience, and it is easy to bulk-sell veiled items for 3c each. They can even go for 5c or higher, but I will use 3c. If you need 500 unveils to 'complete' your bench, and each unveil is -3c, then the entire unveil process costs about 1500c total, or between 10-15 exalts depending on what point in the league we're talking. The cost is actually higher, because you're giving up on the currency immediately for a payoff in the future (and future payoffs are discounted against present gains) but we will leave that aside. So, the cost of having a bench that allows you to craft Veiled mods onto your own items is around 10 exalts. Now, how many times are you, as a player, going to use those veiled mods? Probably for a lot of players, the answer is 5-10 times. In that case, you're paying 1-2ex per item just for the Veiled mods on each of those items. If you're willing to pay 2ex for a single benchcrafted mod on an item, then that item is surely worth 5-10ex. If your build is full of 5-10ex items, then it is probably a 50-100ex build. Putting it another way, if you have 10ex to spend on single mods on five of your items, then the other five items are, again, probably worth at least 50-100ex. We can also look at the price of crafting services, compared to crafting your items. From what I gather, the most reputable crafter charges ~50c per craft. So if it costs 10ex to unlock the basic mods on the crafting bench, then this implies that you should be crafting at least 30 items before your investment breaks even with crafting services. If you can find a cheaper crafter whom you trust, then you may need to craft many more items on your own before unveiling is a good investment. Remember, this is all for basic benchcrafting mods such as +int/%quality, not including master-specific items like +2 support gems. Let's talk about master-specific mods now. It won't take long, because the conclusions are obvious. Someone please correct me if this is a bogus figure, but it seems like master-specific veiled items can sell for upwards of 50c each. Now, let's assume it takes 20 master-specific veiled items before you get your desired crafting mod (again, someone with more experience can chime in on this). That is an expenditure of 1000c, or ~7-10exa. That is 7-10exa for the ability to craft a single master-specific modifier, not counting the bench fee itself. Unless you are crafting these items to sell, there is next to no chance you should unveil any of your own master-specific items. It would take tens or hundreds of crafted items before that investment would pay itself back. So, to recap: Unlocking the basic mods on your crafting bench carries a cost of >10exa. If you are crafting items for your own use and not to resell, it is very unlikely that this is a worthwhile investment from a currency perspective. For master-specific modifiers, this is even more extreme, and almost no-one should be unveiling these items for themselves at the current going rates. Instead of unveiling your own items, consider chucking the generic veileds in a 3c dump tab, and individually pricing the master-veiled items. This way, you can save a lot of time and headache, and make plenty of currency besides. I did this in 3.7 and had no regrets at any point. [edit: How to tell if it's a normal veiled or master-specific veiled item: If you hold alt, the veiled mod will say either "Veiled", or "Catarina's/Vagan's/etc. Veiled". You might need to enable advanced mod descriptions in the UI options.] Disclaimer: If too many people adopt this strategy, then the market for veiled items will tank. But I doubt a single reddit post would have that much influence. If there are objections to the numbers I used, I'm willing to hear them and edit the post. [link] [comments]
[Discussion] I'm tired of the campaign. Posted: 27 Aug 2019 04:13 AM PDT I played through the majority of leagues since Perandus, averaging 2 characters per league. At first, re-running the campaign did not feel too bad, then the Oriath expansion freshened things up a bit more with the fantastic re-work. However, after playing through 8 leagues and having completed the campaign 16 times, I am not sure I want to do it again. I know people say it's a skill, I know I can make it quick and I get faster every time but it just feels like a fucking chore at this point. I wish we had an alternative, the way Diablo 3 does with the adventures, or at least we could easily get our second character in each league to endgame without having to grind through the campaign every time. I don't have that much time to play and this prevents me from trying new builds and enjoying the game since I don't want to spend 6-7h on getting the campaign done on them, it's a matter of DAYS of mindless grind for me due to 2h of playtime/day tops. Hell, I would even be ready to pay some cash to unlock a lvl 65 character with completed campaign at this point. [link] [comments]

At what point will we find out how Blight mobs will react to obstacles? Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:32 PM PDT I'm brainstorming what I want to play this league (although I rarely really decide until Patch Notes), but I feel the uniqueness of the Blight mobs makes it impossible to really make an informed decision. How do they interact with Frost Wall? What about knockbacks or pulls? Can they all be taunted while just standing in the center on the device? Will we be able to know these before the league launches? [link] [comments]
It has been more than 2 years since Siege Ballista appeared in patch notes... Posted: 26 Aug 2019 04:53 PM PDT Patch 3.0.0 (August 2017), siege ballista was mentioned in the patch notes as part of the projectile pierce rework. No other changes were made to the skill. The only other time Siege Ballista appeared in patch notes was patch 2.1.0 (December 2015). Siege Ballista was nearly useless the day it came out and hasn't been changed once since. It's attack speed is so slow that it misses moving targets. All of its base damage is lost as you try to increase its projectiles. So you're left with a slow and weak totem. The Iron Commander, a unique bow that specifically interacts with Siege Ballista is also incredibly weak. It's so bad that most Ballista builds should avoid it because it's better to summon 2 decent ballistas than 12 awful ones. This skill has got to be the most forgotten skill in PoE history. GGG pls. Help :( [link] [comments]

A case for in-game minion stats Posted: 26 Aug 2019 04:04 PM PDT I mean, as it stands, we're kinda guessing Look, we've banged this drum before. I know that there must be a good reason behind this issue, and I know GGG have this on their plate somewhere, but we should consider adding in-game minion stats for the upcoming Necromancer revamp. Recently, PoE Leagues have been released alongside Class Archetypes that provide reliably fun experiences for the new content. This incentivizes new and returning players to play these classes. Newer players are going to face some serious hurdles with the Necromancer - the largest of which, I think, is figuring out what their minions are actually doing. To a new player this issue must be glaring. Sure, some other skills don't have a DPS tooltip, but minions need so much more than that. What skills do your minions use? Is that a spell or an attack? whats the attack/cast speed? Do they have cooldowns? What's the damage type? Is there damage conversion? Do they inflict ailments? Some minion gems include helpful descriptions that clear up important stats, but the rest are left obscured. Don't get me wrong, we've had peeks behind the curtain. Third party resources, like PoE Wiki and Path of Building (Openarl, you're a legend), have compiled what we've managed to find from data-mining and the occasional spreadsheet. They don't cover most minions, the data's wrong the moment there's an update, and newer players will have trouble finding that data - but it's something. Enough complaining, let's be constructive! I'm going to make a suggestion here, but just to be clear: This information already exists, right? In order for PoE to calculate how much damage you're taking or when minions/monsters can use skills, the questions I asked above must already have answers. We're essentially looking to display statistics that already exist somewhere in the game. Let's think of a way to do that. I think a character tab would to the trick. We can create a new tab, probably labelled "Minions", that displays stats for the last minion the highlighted ability has made. This solution addresses several issues. Only one minion is shown at once, so you don't end up with an essay. Spectre information can be shown. This leaves room for stats for each skill the minion can use. The minion tab could even display non-gem or support-gem minions like Phantasms, Spectral Wolves, and Raise Spiders. I have a couple more ideas, but that's my best one. I know all of this is easier said than done. I know this patch has completed most of its development cycle. Maybe this isn't possible this patch. I'm sure I speak for the community when I say that any step in the right direction is always appreciated. [link] [comments]
