GGG pls defragment your own ggpk before deploying it to Steam

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 05:50 AM PST

I shaved 10 GB off the Steam ggpk by running the defragmenter on it. EDIT: by this I'm referring to the well-known ggpk_defragment(er).rb script

"Just don't use Steam LOL, what a loser OP, Steam is retarded, etc." you say? This is not Steam's fault, they just give you the exact same files that GGG (or any other developer) provides to them. For some reason GGG deploys the Steam ggpk with 10 GB of garbage in it, and they're the only ones who can fix this.

Edit2: Just to be super clear I'm aware of optimizing for small download sizes for small patches, but when you're releasing a huge download anyway might as well remove the garbage pls?

    Crafting Challenge League (MSC Trade)

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 10:27 AM PST

    Hey guys,

This little private league experiment has been going really well so far, so I wanted to open it up to some more people.

Long story short, the ONLY mod enabled is "No magic or rare items drop". Uniques still drop, influenced items drop as white, etc. However, it REALLY shakes things up.

There are a bunch of people at various levels of progression right now. It's 100% free, and I'll buy more slots if necessary. The goal is to help everyone get better at crafting, especially with limited resources. Be creative in your builds!

The link is below, as well as the discord which has two channels specifically for the league.

    https://www.pathofexile.com/private-leagues/join/Crafting+Challenge+League/d-gkejlmA_JxIkAYWbUV

    https://discord.gg/PnzqSw8

We use Global 7123 to chat. Once you've applied, you can tag me in discord (@Iron) or reply here and I'll accept you to the league within 30 mins-1 hour.

    Hope you enjoy!

    Catalyst Success

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 10:57 AM PST

So I wanted to get t2 or t1 Hunter's Life Gain on Hit, on a beautiful Coral Ring I had with Guatelitzi's 70-79 Maximum Life and 3-5% Increased Maximum Life, decent resists and enough STR to solve problems for my build.

I was at the point in the league where I didn't really have any immediate league goals. So I thought, well I could use a Hunter's Exalt, and since I already have 20 Fertile Catalysts on this buddy, it will definitely weight the slam and I'll have a better chance to get that sweet Life Gain on Hit and with another 20 Fertile Catalysts it will be even better.

Suffice to say, I got t2 Reduced Physical Reflected Damage Taken.

Anyone have a similar story of failure or even success?

Mother's Embrace + Minion Instability bug?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 04:39 AM PST

So I had the idea that I would play a build that used Mother's Embrace and Coruscating Elixir to put my zombies on 1 life, thus making them explode with minion instability instantly upon summon. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I summon the zombie on one life, and it doesn't explode. This seems to not work the way it's worded. Minion Instability states that your minions explode when reduced to low life, and removing all but one life should satisfy that requirement. I would guess that it happens because rather than being summoned at full life, then using the flask and reducing to low life, the zombie is summoned at one life, therefore never actually being reduced to below 30%, the low life threshold. This makes sense in some ways, the minions do use the flask instantly, there's no point at which it's not under the effect of the flask. However surely removing all but one life means that the zombie has been reduced to low health? Is this an oversight or intended? I imagine that because the summoning of the minion and the use of the flask happen in the same instant, the act of going from above 30% health to below is never processed by the game, so the requirements for triggering minion instability aren't met. But that explains why the code doesn't trigger it, but from the wording of all the items and keystone, it seems to me like it should work. Thoughts?

Does Raise Specter + Empower Support increase minion ability levels?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 09:05 AM PST

Such as a reanimator, if I have a buffed level 5 Empower Support linked with Raise Specter, would reanimators summon 4 zombies instead of only 3, because they would have level 5 Raise Zombie?

How I made 2500 exalts in MSC

    Posted: 14 Feb 2020 02:20 PM PST

Hey guys I just wanted to share with everyone some of the knowledge I gained from this league MSC. I've made over 2500 Exalts this league from mostly trading and bossing and used the majority of learn end game crafting. A common question I get from my trade interactions is "how do you make so much currency?"

This will be a wall of text and a majority of it does involve trading. If you are not interested in reading the whole lot there will be a TLDR at the bottom.

Just a bit of background: I am a Scrub core pleb, with below avg game mechanics knowledge and noob tier game play mechanics. I play solo roughly around 4-5 hours per day. The last league was betrayal, my goal league goal was to make 1 mirror and it took over a month. This league I sent no goals but I was able to farm up to my first mirror around day 8. Leagues before this I never made over 50 exalts. The exponential growth in wealth maybe attributed to two factors. 1. Metamorph league is a money printing league, there are so many ways to get currency drops have been absolutely insane. 2. I was able to identify a few gaps in the market that literally made me around 50-80 exalts a day.

Please bear in mind majority of what I am talking about will be translatable to softcore leagues, some of the concepts will be similar in other leagues also. Please also note that there is no correct way to make currency, In fact there is so much content in the game there are too many ways to make currency, and knowledge gaps are everywhere I just wanted to share my experiences as some of the things are as widely known compared to things like: lab running/delve/currency flipping etc.

The strategies do not require you to hit red maps on day two or other

The basic concept you need to understand are as follows:

    1. How far into the league is it? Early league market dynamics compared to mid league and end of league change complete. As people are getting wealthier deeper into the league they will be looking for upgrades.

    2. How much currency do I have? The more currency you have the more money you can make; this is plain simple. Basically, the more liquid currency you have opens you up to higher exalts per hour money making methods.

    3. What are the most meta builds – understanding what players in this group are looking to buy is very important. If you somehow identify a gap here you will be printing exalts.

Here is my journey and how I made money this league:

I don't really have the much game knowledge to come up with my own builds so every league I select the most meta build that I haven't played with and roll with it. Started off with Arc mines but rerolled day to into summoner.

As I was levelling and building currency, they first basic money-making method was div card flipping. Now this is common knowledge. The first major gap I identified was flipping a card called azyran's reward. Now this is card was selling fo 6-8c each at the time. There were only two outcomes of this div card, anima stones or Watchers eyes. Since it costed around 60-72c to complete a set and anima stones were selling at around 85c. You could not lose money. Occasionally the corruption on the stone is good, you can sell the stone for 120-150c early league. And since elder was relatively hard to get this early in the league, I managed to get 2 watcher's eyes and sell them at 3 ex and 5 ex. This turned out to be around 30-50c per hour with how often the cards camp up between 6-8c. absolutely insane for day 2-4.

Playing the necro build an early game 6 link was the queen's escape sword. This was the first instance of abusing league mechanics. I bought a 6 link queens escape for 4 exalts, this got me thinking as it costed avg 6ex to 6 link an item, why was the sword so much cheaper. Then I realised with the metamorph's giving 6 link drops the unique sword Queen's decree. This was dropping onto the market at a huge amount. What I realised was you could upgrade a 6 link Queen's decree into a 6 link Queens escape using the prophecy. Queen's decrees were on the market for around 2.5ex, the prophecy costed around 50c, and exalts were 130c. Queen's escapes were selling around 3.5- 5ex depending on rolls. This meant by simply buying queens decrees converting them in Act 4. I was able to make a profit of 0.6ex to 2.1ex per sword. Because these swords were of such high demand, they pretty much sold straight away on the market straight away. i was able to sell roughly 10 swords an hour and it only took about 15 minutes to buy the swords and the prophecies and convert them.

As more people caught onto this, they started undercutting and margins got thinner. This is when I realised the queen's escapes were not of the right socket colours. By simplying turning them into 3r3b or 2b4r people would pay premiums for. I realised it costed around avg of 15c to chrome the swords but they added around 0.7ex in value. This meant I wasn't competing with everyone else simply upgrading the swords. I had isolated my customer base. AT thi stage I was making roughly 1.5ex to 2ex profit per sword for a span of 7 days. I sold over 300 swords and was able to fund my necromancer to do all content in the game.

I didn't even need to snipe, I just simply bought the cheapest, converted and chromed and sold for profit. People are generally lazy and don't spend time to find out how items come about, in this case I provided a service by making a weapon ready made to go and people were willing to pay a premium for that service.

This was in instance of new league mechanics (metamorph drops) changing the dynamics of a standard market that would have been standard knowledge. By combining the fact that I was playing a metabuild and I knew what people were looking for along with this gap. I was able to fund my character (300ex investment) and buy my first mirror by 8 day of the league.

At this stage I was able to do shaper and uber elder, and due to the limited number of people farming these bosses and the recent mechanics changes, you could farm these guys without mapping. Simply buy fragments and go. Shaper made a profit of 0.5ex per run and UE was around avg of 1.2 ex per run selling watcher's eyes unidentified. I did around 200 UE runs as it took around avg of 6 minutes to buy frags and kill the guy. This equated to around 14 ex per hour.

Again, the margins get thinner as more people can do the content. So, I stopped farming UE around week 2.5.

Other methods of making money on the side included: (please note do not attempt some of these methods if you do not have the currency to take a loss in the short term)

    Vaaling voidfletchers:

This was a very easy decision. Void fletchers 1 month into the league was 2.5ex, a no change was selling for 2.3, a change in implicit was selling for 5ex to 15ex depending on. And if you hit +1 chain or +1 arrow it was sold for 120ex. I worked out even if I didn't hit +1 arrows I was making an avg of 0.2ex per vaal. And if I hit either chains or arrows which is an avg of 1/200 (so essentially 1/100 vaals) Im gonna make 100ex profit. That means the avg value of simply vaaling a void fletcher was 1.2exalts! Why did I chose to vaal voidfletchers? It's a quiver, don't need to quality or chrome this took away any additional costs. By simply buying and vaaling I was adding 1.2ex of value. I never had more than 10 quivers on sale at once as its simply very easy to buy and vaal but it took time to sell the quivers. So its minimal effort for easy profit. I did hit +1 chains and sold the quiver for 120ex.

Now I wouldn't recommend doing this if you have less than 50ex. Simply because you could get unlucky. If a few void fletchers bricked early in the process. You could lose all your currency. So you need to make sure you have enough to increase your sample size to avoid going broke.

Buying Vuln on hit Shapers touch gloves:

I bought broken socketed lvl 12 vuln on hit shapers touch gloves around 7 ex and socketed and chromed them to 2b 2g. Since vaals this league are 300 to 1 exalt. The cost was minimal but i was able to sell these gloves at 10ex. Just by having the right chromed colours and links. Made about 150ex doing minimal work. Since I knew summoners wanted these gloves I had no issues selling these mid league as people could now afford to spend 10ex upgrading their gloves. Again no need to snipe, I just simply logged on and bought the cheapest ones and updated them.

    Running Cortex maps:

Again this was a no brainer, cortex maps were 2.4ex, bottled faiths were selling at 14ex a pop. 1 month into the league. The bottles dropped 1/5. So cost was 12ex on average and I return was 14ex (not counting fossils/elder/shaper/GCP/chisels). I simply bought the maps ran to the end and killed the boss and left. You could do 30 maps per hour. You do the math.

No inbetween this period I did have a 28 maps without a flask dropping (this mean I was 70ex in the hole). So there is a chance you could go broke if you don't have enough currency. It all avgs out eventually as you might get like 5 flasks in 7 maps.

Adding catalyst onto mark of the elder:

This is another instance of identifying a gap and using league mechanics that were previously not available. I simply added 20 abrasive catalysts to 80% mark of the elder rings. 80% rings were 40-80c 20 abrasives at the time was 1c each. I sold these rings at 250c – 3.5ex. Again the theme is minimal effort, no need to snipe, 3 trades (like 2 minutes of work) for like 1.5ex profit.

These are just some examples I used. There are so many other gaps in the market. If you want to make money, use your game knowledge, find out how things work and identify gaps in the market. This way you can print exalts with minimal effort.

Key points to identifying gaps and whether its worth doing:

Is there demand for the product?

How much effort do I have to put into it? How many trades or things I have to do to complete one trade cycle?

How much time do I have to put in? if it's less than 5ex per hour there's probably something better to do?

And most importantly IS ANYONE ELSE DOING WHAT IM DOING? If the answer is yes, you guys will eventually under cut and margins get thinner.

    TLDR:
Identify a gap in the market by applying a certain action (applying a service) and on selling that service for profit preferably around 1ex per trade cycle. No need to snipe, no need to play 12 hours a day. Play at your own pace, no need for group play or bitch boys.
