So my Animated Guardian Died.. a farewell message

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:21 AM PST

No saltyness no sadness, but today my Animated Guardian who I have had from league start, sadly passed on to a better life. Running a t16 doing syndicates and right infront of me sat a unidentified chest with what I didnt know would be detonate corpes close by. I ran and left my friend behind. I could have convocated but sadly I was struck with fear and he paid the ultimate price. I didnt name him but now he shall be known as Alfonso may you take that kingmaker right to the gates of heaven and animated guardian land where you now shall rest.

Private League - Baker's Boomer League aka PoE Classic

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 10:55 AM PST

    Hi reddit,

With all the recent nostalgia since my return to PoE and the seventh anniversary since game launch, as well as PoE2 drawing nearer, we thought it would be a great idea to make a PoE "Classic" private league towards the end of Metamorph.

The rules that would help enable that "Classic" feel would be:

    1. No ascendancies
    2. Only active/support gems from before 1.0
    3. Only unique items from before 1.0
    4. No Shaper / Elder or any other Influence Items!
    5. No Jewels!
    6. Only Predictive Mode, everyone not obeying is risking getting his account banned by Chris manually! (jk!)

Hope some of you guys join!

Ps: to get hyped about the league check out some great PoE Beta videos on youtube to get a feeling for those glorious times.. Also if you got any input / ideas / suggestions feel free to hit me up here or on twitch.tv/baker any time!

Additional Rules and Allowed Gems / Uniques:

    Starting time: Feb 14, 2020, 7:30:00 PM (Europe/Budapest) CET

does PoE have a fundamental visibility issue?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 07:23 PM PST

    tldr: i can't see shit

in a vacuum, enemy telegraphing is great. you can always tell what's coming. GGG did great work making that happen. placed inside the game environment, however, it's as if the design goal is to obscure enemy actions as much as possible.

in a game like WoW, imagine if the lich king was the same size as everyone else in your raid. can't see him, can you? blizzard, as much as i give them a hard time, learned this a long time ago. i hopped back into PoE right after trying D3 for a first time recently. I can't recall this being an issue. not even once.

the main counter argument is PoE is uber customizable. with all the ability combinations and modifications, you're bound to not be able to see enemy action with some builds. D3 is more strict with abilities and able to design the game around it better. however, anyone who's rolled a cyclone build or two will tell you the disproportionate amount of effort in the fight that is put towards just seeing what the enemy is doing. bare bones cyclone with some added range. it can be said that stopping your attack should fix the issue. but is that good design?

when you die, how often do you actually know what killed you? when you watch a clip of someone else's death, how often do they actually know what killed them? if you watch twitch, how often does your PoE streamer of choice need to see a frame by frame replay before they even hazard a guess what killed them? in a game with no battle log, this issue is just further compounded. there's an odd learning process with PoE. when you don't even know what kills you half the time, what's the takeaway? what lesson should i have learned? id guess most of us "learn" our build is bad. we don't question if it's fundamental flaws in the games design that make the ability customization folks love PoE for.... all that much less customizable. sure you can roll cyclone CoC shock nova but good luck seeing anything.

look at a game like dark souls, famous for killing people. when you die in dark souls you learn something from it. you know exactly what happened and you aim to improve yourself. the "punishing" death mechanic in souls is revered for it's ability to actually let you learn something and improve your own build and gameplay. where would dark souls be if you we're totally oblivious as to why we even died? what can be learned from that experience?

this turned into more of a rant than a discussion primer, but hopefully i'm not entirely alone here. and on a side note, big enemies like kitava? super well done. that fight i have ZERO issues with.

    Hybrid Skill Gems

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 02:57 AM PST

    Hybrid Skill Gems

    Greeting Exiles

This is part 2 of my "Illusionist Archetype", in which i present 3 new Active Spells which scale their damage based on the weapons used.

They went through quite a few iterations, and these are the versions i ended up with, hopefully you like them =D

    https://preview.redd.it/wylnw692ohe41.jpg?width=1581&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=411575a97063f1d6c2a6b3b970e3dc36cf9f1f5c

    Mystical Shot

This gem can be used right from the start, which means simplicity is a must. It introduces players to the three projectile modifiers in a "random" way, similarly to Elemental Hit or Wild Strike. From this, players have a preview of the effects of Pierce, Chain and Fork applied to this gem. Any modifier that is added (E.g.: Pierce support) comes AFTER the mark proc.

It is worth noting that, for end game, the first hit should be enough to clear most packs, so the randomness of the selection shouldn't affect builds too much.

As with other "random effect" skill gems, Threshold jewels could be introduced to limit one or more effects, although from my experience with new players, many like the random effect of the gems, and it only becomes a concern for more experienced players trying to juice their build to the fullest.

    Divine Greatsword

A bit of an unconventional one, promoting the "big hit" play style. The objective behind this gem is to bring to the table something that's worth waiting for. unlike Earthquake, which rewards lowering the delay, this gem's delay cannot be modified and instead it gains massive damage the more Cast Speed the players have.

Since it is a ground targeted Spell, it does work with Spell Cascade which, if nothing else, leads to quite a show.

    Rain of Steel

Trying to distinguish this from blade vortex and winter orb was quite the challenge, but i think the result has potential. This skill is meant to be a strong single target mid-range spell, a kind of Blade Flurry for spells if you will.

Assuming a full 20 stored blades, it takes 2 seconds for them to drop on the enemy, allowing players to move freely and focus entirely on defence, and half as much time to reload back to full. Cast speed affects both times.

As described, the stored blades "follow" you around. They do not have a duration and will target any enemy inside their range (which, like Herald of Thunder, is affected by Inc. Area). If no enemies are nearby, they'll just hand out with you and be chill. Priority can be set by attacking or casting with the cursor over an area (much like minions), but most of the time non-priority targets should die relatively fast. the blades would also "smartly" choose targets like Volatile Dead to avoid overkill since their attack time is so short.

That's it for now, hope you like these experimental Hybrid skills! Any feedback is very much welcome, and if you haven't seen it already, here is the "Illusionist" Ascendancy.

Thank you for reading through this, you may go back to mapping on reddit =D

    Hey Everyone!

Episode 11 (Buddies Building Builds) of Forever Exiled (A Path of Exile Podcast) Has Been Released!

It's been 7 years since GGG had their open beta and are we ever glad they have continued to make the game according to their standards. In this Episode we salute GGG on an amazing 7 years so far (as we hope for 7 (70) more), we make fun of each other's gamer tags, we talk PoE tattoos, how we go about making builds, and obviously lots of other rad things...obviously.

Thank you for all of your great feedback and support! Don't be shy to give us suggestions, feedback, or even a review on your preferred podcast medium. We hope you enjoy this week's episode!

Results of 50x T16 Blighted Summit Maps.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 11:20 AM PST

    Follow up on previous post.

    tl;dr

    Profit: ~3447 Chaos.

    Profit Per Map: ~69 Chaos.

    Profit/hour: ~284 Chaos.

I made a spreadsheet where you will find all the info.

If an item in the spreadsheet is listed as bulk it's because I know I can sell that item in bulk for the price listed and not the price that Exilence came up with. All other other items prices are listed according to Exilence.

All maps where anointed with 3 Crimson Oils.

I was greeted by Cadiro 3 times.

Besides finding out how profitable the maps where, I initially wanted to find out the spawn rate of different chest types. I haven't done that yet, and right now I can't be bothered. If anyone else feels like doing that you will find screenshots of completed maps here. There are only 49 screenshots available, I must have forgotten to take one.

I've been told repeatedly, that my clearspeed is way too slow. I definetly did pick up a lot of shit that i shouldn't have. And that is something i have corrected by running a stricter loot filter, which should give me a faster clearspeed and increase my profit/hour.

I have been told that it should take me no more than 6.5 minutes on average to clear and loot a T16 Blighted map. No one has been willing to show me how they do that though. So I'm skeptical. Im hoping that someone here will show me how that's done.

If there is anything I've missed or need to correct, please let me know.

    Have a great sunday.

    Edit:

    Towers.

I build 1 Imbuing tower on top of the pump

1 Temporal Tower and 1 Smothering Tower close to or on top of eachother, where lanes converge near the pump.

Thats it. My reasoning for Imbuing and Smothering are that no mobs are immune to them.

Temporal just slows everything down around the pump.

    Deaths.

I died twice during the 50 maps. both to the same boss. The one that shoots spikes in a nova like the porcupines.
