    GGG I can understand putting a timer in small event like Alva but this whole timer league need to stop. Just admit it is a design mistake and fix the thing. My mapping experience has been like so stressful and felt being judged by my inefficiency.

    Oh, you have done a Alva and waiting for the loot? The timer counting bro. Oh, you would like to unveil those trash rares after Jun encounters? Too bad the timer is ticking too.

    It is not fun for your average player getting shit on in maps and now putting a timer in and tell your playerbase that you guys wants the game to slow down? I cant even.

    read through some of the comments, here are some of my clarifying points.

    • Map layout: Some of the maps are not having good layout for delirium. Why are we being punished for GGG's not having their league mechanic fair to all the maps? Blight, alva, beast, incursion are fair for all map layout meanwhile this is not. This leading to the timer is not being fair for some maps and is ok for some maps.

    • Looting and backtracking sucks. We are literally being punished for trying to loot, trying to do the other mechanic (unveiling, choosing syndicate, talking to alva, opening loots from blight, looting from maps...) while being ticked down. This is ridiculous how the community is accepting being punished for doing very basic things of an RPG.

    • The point comparing with using delirium orb is that those are very basic activities, why it should be consider a "luxury" to have only when using the orb? My build cannot handle 20% orb on T16 maps so I cannot enjoy the game without being stress?

    PSA: Delirium loot that drops in one of the "middle" boss arenas on elder maps is permanently lost. I suggest ending the delirium encounter manually until it's fixed.

    Legion, Blight, Metamorph, and Delirium now all drop items from all content except, generally, at a significantly higher rate than the actual content that is meant to produce those items.

    Particularly, Delirium is making items feel less and less exciting. I used to be excited about setting up my syndicate to get good gilded scarabs or pure breachstones. I used to be excited about going delving, figuring out where best to delve to target farm my fossils I needed.

    This is exactly what GGG / Chris Wilson talks about when they say that items need to have weight, except ironically they're watering down that concept every league... Rares drop like candy, the game is based around loot explosions, and all of the league-specific items are integrated with so many mechanics now that there's no real point to do master missions besides like Jun and even then not really. You can just spam white maps to get your core set of crafts and be good.

    Right like, why would I delve when I can just spam simulacrums, which are a tad bit more expensive than sulphite scarabs used to be, except from those simulacrums I now become inundated with fossils, essences, div cards, scarabs, breach stones, and splinters. How is this not a gigantic red flag for GGG? This should be like, a god damn siren going off at HQ. You get more splinters and sometimes full god damn breachstones from a Breach reward in delirium than you typically do in an actual breach encounter.

    If rare items used to have weight, that's gone. If influenced items used to have weight, that's gone. Orbs of Annulment, Divine Orbs, Harbinger Orbs, and Ancient Orbs all used to have weight, significantly less so. Scarabs, Fossils, Essences, all used to have some weight, that's gone.

    So what are we left with that's even remotely exciting to have drop? Like full on exalts?

    Legion, Blight, Metamorph, and Delirium all show up way more often than actual master missions and are all more valuable to do than them individually because they drop more of what used to be content-specific items than doing that actual content provides. This line is essentially what happened to loot in D3, and its that sort of loot that I didn't want to ever happen in Path of Exile, but it's kind of here now.

    This is easily the least I've ever played Path because it just doesn't feel good. I've been trying to put my finger on exactly what it was this league that turned me off of the game so quickly, and its because item inflation has hit a point where nothing is really exciting to see unless it's a stupidly high ticket item. Nothing has the "weight" that GGG so avidly tries maintain anymore, they caved, and they lost it.

    EDIT Since perhaps it wasn't clear in the post, I'm not concerned about the actual value of items so far as I am the perceived value, the "weight" that GGG wanted their items to have is rapidly diminishing and making the items feel worthless because of how many I have now.

    PoE really needs to go back to loading all necessary assets at the beginning of a map, instead of dynamically as you go

    This would heavily reduce the amount of stuttering/freezing that happens as mobs/encounters are spawned en masse (Legion being the worst offender).

    A few people in this thread have pointed out some possible reasons for why PoE hitches as often as it does:

    chris_wolcen - The problem is that PoE uses a shitty sound library: FMOD. Additionally, music and ambient sounds are NOT loaded to memory, but played directly from disk (see this for more info). As a result of this, the library locks (for exclusive access) the Content.ggpk file few times per second.

    IRSmoh - If this guy's right and ggg's actually being stupid enough to have something that needs to gain exclusive control over the file for reading.. while other shit is also trying to load from the same file. then yes its a performance problem. it's taking however many threads and making them serial (at worse performance too) -- which means hitching galore + other fun shitty bugs/perf issues. I doubt ggg has their game race condition safe (or even majority race condition safe).

    Not sure if any of this is actually accurate, so it would be nice to have confirmation from a dev.

    I remember PoE did load everything at the start a million years ago, but we apparently decided it would be better to load things dynamically at some point.

    Was it about long load times? I remember a lot of complaints about it at the time, but a lot of players are on SSDs nowadays anyway -- and even if I didn't own one, I'd much rather wait a little longer at the start than deal with the constant hitching.

    GGG, ff we own an MTX already in a bundle, shouldn't the bundle be discounted?

    It would be nice to have this as a feature; sometimes you're not sure if you would like all of the MTX in that bundle, or you had one of the MTX from long ago (sawblade blade vortex). I believe Steam does this for their games, and while I don't usually buy Steam bundles I appreciate the gesture.

    A lot of builds that need to set up before they can do damage are being one shot before they can fight. Players just get mobbed around the portal back in and die.

    I'm fairly recent to POE (~6 months). When I started most textures were loaded immediately. Lately, the lazy loading of textures is getting ridiculous. Cassia was a ghost for over 30s after joining my hideout.

    When entering the game with a character, the hideout, inventory, and skills should all be loaded upfront. I'm always going to need those, what's the point of lazy loading it? Same for maps.

    GGG, do you have any plans to introduce new server gateways?

    I live in India and the ping to the nearest gateway (Singapore) ranges from 80 to 200+ depending on server population. For the past 4 leagues, it has become a criteria for me to play the league or not. The ping is very inconsistent making gameplay unenjoyable. I dont know if this helps but my networking mode is set to auto.

    On a sidenote, could you explain how auto networking works? How does the game decide to use lockstep or predictive given sudden spawns like legion?

    Edit: Ping/latency issues can be caused by many things such as router model, router settings, ISP, no. of devices connected, server population, etc. There has been no word from GGG about new gateways since the Brazil server was added, which was around May 2015. The chinese and korean servers are not gateways since their purpose is somewhat different. Also they do not show up in the gateway list in-game.

    The point of this post is that given the large distance between my region and the nearest gateway, the average ping will always be 150-200ish and there is no method or fix I can do from my end to reduce ping. This only leaves me hoping that GGG will add new gateways, one of which will hopefully be closer to my region.

    I am not entitled to an answer but I sure would appreciate it if GGG could comment on whether they plan to add new gateways or not down the line.
