Policy Discussion (Part 4 - Stale Content)

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 05:07 PM PDT

    Part 3 (Megathreads), Results

Easy one to parse, quite a number of you all were against an increase in megathreading so we'll keep to our normal. If only all of these results were as easy :P

    Part 4 - Stale Content

So for our next policy to put under the microscope is what we do with Stale Content. To be honest we don't even have a specific term for this as a team this is just my personal moniker for it, but I'm confident you've all seen some at least once. Someone screenshotting drops from Kalandra's Craft/Keepers of the Trove, double corrupted a unique, or (a few leagues back) the 124th Elder -mana cost Maim chest. Stale Content is simply just that, content that has lost its previous luster either to age or sheer gargantuan amounts of reposting.

    Our current policy is this:

If the content was released in the current league it gets a pass, as people are just excited about the new stuff. Otherwise heavily reposted in-game content gets removed at any time under the Low Effort rule.

I want to emphasize the in-game content part, this does not include opinions or critiques of content, like Sirus posts. This is strictly pertaining to screenshots of items and events in-game we see too often, as they're significantly easier to pattern.

It's worth it to say that this is probably our most internally discussed policy, as inevitably there's always something new that pops up that we find our opinions split on, like Timeless Jewels.

    Our common use cases

To be clear we don't actually keep a formal list, as most situations where Stale Content comes into play is a case-by-case basis. So this isn't a hard and fast list, just examples of what we've removed in the past with this policy.

    • Double corrupted uniques
    • Watcher's Eyes (not the crazy triple-aura ones, but the easier-to-find double-aura ones)
    • Same-rare drops (i.e. from Kalandra's Craft, Keepers of the Trove)
    • Coincidental name drops (i.e. "XXX Corona" helms, "Hate League" boots)
    • Prophecy drops (i.e. Fated Connections, Trash to Treasure)
    • non Sirus/Shaper boss kills
    • 'my first exalt'

    Our 'problem' cases

From what we've gathered posts like Prophecy drops and 'my first exalt' are universally disliked, so we're fairly confident to run on the assumption few people (if any) would be upset on their removal. However we have a few cases from the above list and some additional ones that we've had internal and external back and forth on:

    • double-corrupted uniques
    • Watcher's Eyes
    • Timeless Jewels
    • 'Craft' uniques like Hands of the High Templar or Precursor Rings

One idea we've discussed is to review each post by a host of criteria, i.e. the more "yes" answers you give to this questionnaire, the more likely it is to be considered "fresh" content:

Is my item not easily reproducible? "Not easily reproducible" is again subjective, but if it involves many many intricate steps or valuable preparation, then it should qualify.

Is my item valued above 50 ex? 50 exalts is a rough threshold, and can be moved as most of the playerbase won't see something along the likes of one gear of such value. Again subjective, but if the poster is fairly reasonable then this rule might make sense.

Is my item not posted by anyone else before (or at least something similar posted)? Simply to avoid reposts.

Is my item the make-or-break element of a build currently focused on this league? In other words, is my item really overpowered in this meta? We find that oftentimes such items prompt further discussion into item or league mechanics, and the result is a net positive outcome for the community - even if the verdict is that such items are broken. Take those double mana reserved amulets in metamorph for example.

Is my item the first or best of its kind? We include "first" in order to allow leeway for new item showcases that come as a part of teasers. We include "best" in order to allow crafters or collectors to showcase their products so as long as they do not self-promote.

Is my item interesting in a different way that cannot be captured by pure value? We include this rule to allow for the off-chance that someone indeed finds a perfectly worst-roll Ventor's Gamble, and other items like it that have astronomically low chance of being found. They may not have much street value, but at least they provide some amusement for the community. RIP your mirror, by the way.

Now if we consider some of the common infractions, let's say we take a "my first HH" post though this questionnaire.

The item is not easily reproducible, is valued above 50ex, has been posted by others before, isn't a build-defining unique (though some may argue it's clearspeed meta-defining), won't be the first/best of it's kind unless it's perfect roll, and isn't particularly interesting except for its status as a chase unique. Score is 2.

Let's take a gander at multi-corrupted uniques. I'll give several examples to illustrate the thought process.

    Example 1

Is my item not easily reproducible? Yes

Is my item valued above 50 ex? Probably no.

Is my item not posted by anyone else before (or at least something similar posted)? Yes, but no one bothers to post this kind of glove.

Is my item the make-or-break element of a build currently focused on this league? In other words, is my item really overpowered in this meta? Yes, maybe cyclone?

Is my item the first or best of its kind? Maybe.

Is my item interesting in a different way that cannot be captured by pure value? No.

Under generous circumstances, this could be given 4 points. Under stricter circumstances, this would be given only 1. Taking the average, we'd get 2.5 - We probably wouldn't allow it.

    Example 2

Is my item not easily reproducible? Yes - takes loads of gloves and vaals to even get this outcome.

Is my item valued above 50 ex? Probably yes.

Is my item not posted by anyone else before (or at least something similar posted)? No, there are instances of 5 mod HotHTs.

Is my item the make-or-break element of a build currently focused on this league? In other words, is my item really overpowered in this meta? No.

Is my item the first or best of its kind? No.

Is my item interesting in a different way that cannot be captured by pure value? Yes, it's full 5 mod and 4 white sockets.

Score is 3. Probably still wouldn't allow it.

    Example 3

Is my item not easily reproducible? Yes

Is my item valued above 50 ex? Yes.

Is my item not posted by anyone else before (or at least something similar posted)? No, there are instances of 5 mod HotHTs.

Is my item the make-or-break element of a build currently focused on this league? In other words, is my item really overpowered in this meta? Yes, the +proj and +socketed synergize to go well, and life and frenzy charges work great.

Is my item the first or best of its kind? Maybe.

Is my item interesting in a different way that cannot be captured by pure value? Yes, it's full 5 mod and 4 white sockets with clean 12 life 30 fire+lightning res rolls.

Score is between 4-5. We'd probably let it through.

    Example 4

Is my item not easily reproducible? Yes

Is my item valued above 50 ex? Yes.

Is my item not posted by anyone else before (or at least something similar posted)? No, double-corrupted double-legacy, relic RoTCs haven't been posted in the history of the subreddit.

Is my item the make-or-break element of a build currently focused on this league? In other words, is my item really overpowered in this meta? Yes - lots of bow builds consider this strong.

Is my item the first or best of its kind? Yes probably - highest (472.8 combined) dps of its kind.

Is my item interesting in a different way that cannot be captured by pure value? Yes, it's +4 arrows at a time when RoTC is due for another rework soon. Score is between 5-6. Again probably another let-through.

    Thoughts

So what do you think? Is this a reasonable policy? Any ideas on how to better refine/target it? Any kind of post you want added or exempted?

WHY is it necessary to drop THIS MANY ITEMS. There is no doubt this is causing SERIOUS performance issues.

Unique boss Metamorph Samples should be stored in Tane's Laboratory.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:42 AM PDT

Not in your inventory. Like Beasts. In comparision to Beasts though you can vendor samples for new random one, not sure what is best solution for that though. Maybe make it so that you can put and take samples from the list in Tane's lab at any time? But I really don't wanna deal with samples in my stash on top of all things.

    What do you think?

It is infuriating that PoE still doesn't have proper bug report feature

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:12 AM PDT

There is no way I would ever get bothered to type /bug, take screenshot, upload the image and then make a forum post about it. Just this league I came across at least 5 bugs. If I post about a bug on reddit it will just get buried by all the meme and item showcase posts. There isn't even a bug report flair.

Why can't we have in-game bug reporting ticket feature like most modern online games? Features like these would help GGG in the long term.

What do you guys do in the mid-league?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 12:05 PM PDT

This was my first league, and I feel super proud knowing I was able to farm endgame. I lost interest once I was able to farm 20/20 waves and kill sirus with one or no deaths, and even helped a couple people out who posted on general just because I know how awesome this community is and how much you guys helped me.

So what do you guys do once you feel like you made the most of the league? Do you go for a mirror or HH? Do you quit? Go SSF? Try 36/40? Plan what your next league start is gonna be? Sit around general doing nothing?

For me? I tried to invest 10-15ex in a couple different builds and see how it feels. Nothing felt as good as stormbrand.

    • tried to invest 10-15 ex in a couple different builds and see how they feel. Spoiler alert, nothing feels as good as storm brand for that same currency.

    • tried to farm simulacrums to obtain profit, but...meh....wasnt really into it. After doing 30 or so and getting the 750/750 waves challenge part completed, I was over it. Didnt seem uber profitable, but I also never closely tracked.

    • ended up giving away a failed herald stack build (needed to invest more currency to get it to work) and ended up giving away a full storm brand build that allowed me to farm sirus and 20/20, as well as other currency.

    • tried to see how well an elemancer golem does as a league start with 0 currency (surprisingly smooth start from A1 to A10, mapping is tbd).

Is there any easy way to offload every piece of gear, currency, items collected and reset your atlas to 0? Basically nuke your progress? I'd love to pretend like Im doing another league start in the trade league.

On death effects are getting ridiculous

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:41 PM PDT

I just completed a t15 terrace map with bloodline mod and the amount of on death effects made me think about the obscure amount shit that you have to dodge after you KILL the mobs.

Bloodlines has 1 mod where it spawns totems that spews out lightning balls that hits like a truck, you either gotta kill the whole pack before it hits you or you just dodge them. It also has fire and cold exploding grounds they leave when they die, and sometimes you are in a position where you cannot dodge them.

There are obviously porcupines. There is the orange balls that chases you and explode on contact after a short delay (Detonate Dead?).

Delirium has spiky mobs that explodes on death, there are death balls that spawns when you step on them and chases you to explode. There are projections from rare and unique mobs that keeps using skills even after the said monster is dead, most annoying of them being the fire cyclones they create that makes you unable to loot or interrogate betrayal members for 10 seconds.

When you kill legion generals in delirium, sometimes the boss dies but gets stuck in dying animation (happens with karui boss especially), and the projection from the delirium just keeps casting spells.

There are many more but seeing all those in a single map got me a bit angry. Why do we need so much fucking on-death effects other than it being a cheesy way to kill players?

What are your thoughts on this?

So HoT cannot Shock. But with added Cold Damage Added Cold Damage Support it can chill right?

So when you chill an enemy through HoT, "Enemies Chilled by your Hits are Shocked".

Does that mean that's a way to shock enemies through HoT?

Hey guys, I'm new to poe (16 days) and I'm looking to upgrade my gloves, but I don't have a clue what good modifiers are out there for me. I have a lvl 91 spellslinger, a necromancer with spiritual aid and no summons. (Yes, I followed a guide, zizaran's spellslinger)

What kind of good stuff could/should I be looking for on gloves? ^^

Why do so many armor sets look so samey?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:17 PM PDT

I'm someone who REALLY like cosmetics and MTX in the game. I've personally spent well over a thousand dollars on the game in just cosmetic skill effects, armor skins, etc. But it really bugs me that so many armor sets keep getting put in that are just bulky & dark armor pieces that don't fit with a lot of the caster archetypes or other themes in the game.

In particular, I want some more feminine armor sets. I'm a girl, and I want my in game girl to look fancy and pretty. I understand that a crazy overdone ball-gown or some shit would look horrifically out of place in the universe, but it's annoying that so many armor sets just don't seem to be designed to be pretty in any way. I mean like you could easily throw more purples and reds, and we could totally get some more robes and cloth based sets. It's just kind of annoying that every armor set (with very few exception) is either very armored or very masculine, and it's kind of frustrating to me.
