Tired of 10ex "budget" builds only to find the actual items are 10ex a piece

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:58 AM PDT

Does this bother anyone else? Going into a build that is getting advertised at some price, and the price it's advertised at is kind of irrelevant. I've seen this at all but the cheapest 1c builds. Builds that are advertised from 1ex, 5ex, 10ex, 20ex, etc. And you read about it, check out some gameplay videos, it looks good. You get excited about it because you have 10ex in your stash and it says 5ex for the items. So you start piecing it together, selling some old stuff, buying some new stuff. You respec, run the lab again. Normal stuff. You start equiping stuff, and testing it out a bit, and somethings not right. Youre way short on reserved mana and realize in his "10ex" budget they put a double affix watchers eye. Or in one line of the 3 page guide it says "MUST have xxxx affix on this piece of gear or it won't work!" and you look that up, and it's triple the price of the entire build. Or its advertised as a 3.10 build, but the prices have swung so drastically from when the guide was first written that the values in the guide vs. poe trade have no relation to each other.

I feel like that happens in the majority of the guides I check out.

Most recently it was "pick up a Oro's with Fortify corrupt for a few ex, and 6L it". The Oro's was cheap, the 6L cost me me 15ex. Now granted, there are a few things all within my control that I could have done to stop this at any time. First, I didnt even know that you could alter sockets on corrupted items so it was a learning experience. And the knowledge is worth more than 15ex, so either way I come out ahead. Second, I could have priced things before starting. Third, I could have stopped once I realized the cost was ballooning if I really didnt want to do it.

BUUUT, I'm having a ton of fun playing flicker. My only regret is that flicker isnt more readily available to play in the campaign. The build is solid and the guy who wrote the guide is cool and responsive to questions.

HOWEVER, I've become tender to this subject since I love rolling alts. I think I honestly have tons of fun researching cool guides and builds, compare and contrasting them to decide what to play, messing around with them in PoB, then assembling the gear. Maybe more fun doing that than I actually do mapping in the builds.

Which is where my frustration comes in. When I get to the selection process, part of the selection process is the cost of the build. And short of spending an extra hour or two on every build checking the cost of the suggested items vs. whats on sale in Trade, I have to take the authors word. When I get burned 66% of the time, that's frustrating. Not because of the lost ex, but because of the hours of lost time. Well, the lost ex a bit too if I'm being honest.

What would be awesome is if there was something that like PoE Overlay that can quickly look up the prices of things, but instead of pulling from in game, it pulled from PoB. You load up a build in PoB, hit ctrl-d, and voila! the item pops up and you find out that its worth 10ex, not 10c this league.

Sorry, I'm day drinking. Cheers mate!

edit: lol, yep! Guess I am the only one who is bothered by this.

[UPDATE] Help... I keep dying, and want Sirus AW8 + Simulacrum 20

    Posted: 09 May 2020 02:05 AM PDT

I posted this message a few days back asking for help getting Sirus AW8 and Simulacrum 20.

    https://old.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/gdiou4/help_i_keep_dying_and_want_sirus_aw8_simulacrum_20/

I GOT BOTH!!! But with a caveat (spoiler: I died on my last portal for Sirus).

First, I leveled the facebreaker max-block Cyclone to 90, and was able to breeze through Simulacrum 20 deathless. I could mostly facetank Kiosis, just avoiding his big hits. But I was not confident with this build for Sirus, as I didn't think I could stay in range to keep DPS on him at all times.

So I reconfigured the Frostbolt Totem build to be an Storm Brand Archmage as suggested by many. At first I thought the mechanics were clunky, and considered shelving it... boy was I wrong.

Each map has as initial ramp up time to deploy a few brands, then I just run at max speed from one end of a map to the other without dying. Tapping my flasks and cooldowns along the way.

With this confidence in the Archmage, I went into Sirus AW8. I KILLED HIM!!! But died on my last portal and was not able to loot. I also bricked the screenshot. He dropped an awakening orb I wasn't able to collect.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!! Storm Brand Archmage is so good it feels broken. I'm going to keep pushing and get a clean AW8, then look at Uber Elder and some of the older fights I haven't beat or attempted yet.

For reference, here are my POB and Profile links. I'm sure there are things I could improve, or did wrong. Let me know if you see anything that stands out.

Looking for the best meele build sugesstions

    Posted: 09 May 2020 05:26 AM PDT

Hi, this is my first Poe league and im currently playing Stormbrand Archmage Heirophant and had a lot of fun with it till now. As the title says, im looking for the best meele build preferably for the duelist (since i have already leveled one).

The only ones i know of: - Lacerate Gladiator (currently playing) - Impale Cyclone Slayer (only heard good things about it havent tried) Are there any other ones out there worth picking up?

-Edit: I am mostly struggling with wave 20 Simulacrum so it would be nice if the build could do that

    Switching to Spark herald

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:40 PM PDT

Does anyone have any POB's or pointers for making the change?

I'm currently running Power Siphon and it feels pretty strong but I'm not a fan of changing gems for single target, so I wanted to try spark.

I know a couple of pieces of gear are required to switch, but I guess my biggest question is to use Maligaro's or not? I won't be able to afford an ele weakness on hit version, which is why I'm asking.

I can either drop one CotB for an ele weakness + herald unset ring and run maligaro's or possibly Shadows/dust with ele weakness and try to gain some crit multi off other gear.

    Thoughts?

    Something Tanky?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 05:54 AM PDT

Hi All, I've got a good storm brand build going, but the survivability for it isn't great. I'm looking to go for a build that won't die. I would rather go for mitigation rather than dodge but I won't write it off straight away.

What are some of the better options for tanky builds that can run stuff like the Simulacrum and A8 Sirus? I've spent some time looking at options but am a bit overwhelmed!

    Thanks in advance!

10EX(or less) Budget Challenge w/ Explosive Arrow (slightly confused)

    Posted: 09 May 2020 04:35 AM PDT

    Hello fellow exiles,

Recently I found a video on my YT feed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAqgOErEG8Q

I Converted my Max Block ED witch high clear rate, mediocre boss damage into this

Again, I can clear larger packs of Monsters really good but not as smooth as ED. But boss damage is a meme itself.

    My POB: https://pastebin.com/qcvAT659
    Challenge POB: https://pastebin.com/xwrRJX8d

Besides the funny resistances, I think I can compare the Challenge build to mine reasonable.
Note that the Challenge has the false Jewel in the Gloves so actually he would Maim instead of Intimidate.

It seems like I cannot replicate the big juicy crit chunks like in the video displayed. And I cannot understand why that is.

I tried several builds this league and always do I lack dps in POB.
I once could clear Sirus at awakener 6 with ED but after that I am the original one hit wonder or simply, I lack the raw dps to do the encounter reasonable fast.

What essential thing do I miss that I can make the Boss-damage of the Challenge build viable.

And what builds are really all content viable, i know this game for several years and let alone played with the wife for 2 years now. Never had a viable build to clear all the Boss content reasonable. This is the first time in POE history we can afford high tier crap and still, it does not produce the outcome of total destruction and madness all the YT vids portray.

    Confused and slightly frustrated,
    Cheers

How do you use PoB to design a successful build?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 05:13 PM PDT

This is my first league and I have completed my goal to kill A8 Sirus. I did that by blindly following league starts. Blindly following the meta. Blindly following poe ninja builds and kinda averaging them all together for my own end game build. I don't want to do that anymore.

I want to make my own build. Whether it is uber-meta like stormbrand archmage, or something borderline troll/questionable/offmeta like wild strike max block glad...I want to know how to design a build in PoB and see it through. I would love to know how well it would do with 0c (league start), what items are required for the build to "turn on", and how well it generally feels? Will it feel clunky? Will I be mana starved? Will I be mega glass cannon? Will this eat all my exalts, and will each investment feel better?

So how do I, and how do you:

    1) Come up with a build from tree to gems to ascendancies to items?

    2) Know how effective the idea is, looking at damage, when the build "turns on", and QoL?

    3) Set benchmarks or targets? Do you always have 6k EHP, and 3m shaper dps, 3 layers of defense outside of HP, etc?

Successful builds have the ability to clear A8 Sirus and beyond. What does it take to make a successful build? Here's how I think you'd make a build. And I REALLY hope you guys can chime in with how you got your build that YOU came up with to work, even if it is a meta build.

    1) You need a central point to build around. Perhaps an item, perhaps a skill.

    2) You need an ascendency that complements your build. No point in going a ranger class when youre trying to do a minion build as minion damage is concentrated upper left of the tree. No point in going a witch for a max block bleed build because all the bleed nodes and block nodes are at the bottom.

    3) You need items that complement your gear. This seems the harder part, because theres so many damn items. If I wanted to do fire conversion HoP sentinels, I'd need to know what items help convert phys to fire, and what items can be rare and what items can be uniques.

    4) You need a proper gem set up. Movement, aura, defenses, and maybe a supporting spell.

    5) You need proper baseline defensive stats. Max res is obvious, and you ideally want to scale ES or health depending on what build. I think 150% is good/ideal? Armor, evasion also good to pick up.

    6) You need layer(s) of defenses. Max block glad has like fifty layers of defenses, which makes it so damn tanky. Your life is relatively low (3.7-4.5k is common on poe ninja), but you have high armor, 78% attack/spell blocking FULL damage, molten shell, and health leach. That is all from the tree and ascendant passive. With money, you can gain corrupted blood immunity, health on every block, and chaos res.

    7) No clunkyness. I think that might be synonymous with quality of life. But if a build feels clunky and you interact with the game weirdly, it won't feel good. Even if the build is effective and clears t16 maps with minimal currency, if there is some aspect of your guild that doesnt sit right, it wont feel good. Animated weapons carried me hard these league with only 2 ex or so invessted. Animated weapon has to be resummoned on death, on entry to a new map, and whenever they expire, 60-100s or so. Zombies stay with you until death. 10 skellies can be summoned in 3 seconds, on the go. 20 weapons takes like 15 seconds.

    So I reiterate my questions:

    1) How do you design a build in PoB, account for every aspect (tree, flasks, gems, links, etc)

    2) How do you verify its actually a good build, that can be built with a reasonable amount of currency?

    3) Are there any hard numbers or rules you make in your builds? Be it a damage requirement, health, sustain, and QoL? Maybe your thought process is "I know this build will work if I can get to 4m shaper dps and have 3 layers of defense (high EHP, high armor/evasion/block, good sustain/regeneration).

    Cyclone-like league starters

    Posted: 08 May 2020 08:06 PM PDT

So, with the league coming to an end I'm kinda getting anxious with the possibility to starting anew. I started playing mid 3.9 and have only played Lacerate Gladiator and Cyclone CoC Bladefall/Blade Blast (currently at lvl95, can clear T16s and simus but needs some improvement still). Really loved the playstyle of "hold one button and clear everthing," so I was browsing through some builds I haven't played and Storm Brand Hierophant seems pretty nice and close to the Cyclone playstyle. I also thought about going pure phys cyclone, but I wanted to explore other ones too. I also saw a Righteous Fire build that seemed to be "just walk around and everthing dies" type which seemed amazing, but don't know if that's possible as a league starter. I wonder if any of you have other suggestions on the matter, preferably with similar playstyle (not needing to stop to be able to attack).

    1 Billion Dps

    Posted: 08 May 2020 02:43 PM PDT

I've been watching a lot of these maniacs pushing their builds into the stratosphere lately, with borderline orgasmic Herald Arc builds, and absurd Warcry Zerkers, I saw some dude popping 850m Dps, and am wondering whether there are gonna be 1,000,000,000 builds coming up. Obviously with cluster jewels abuse there's virtually infinite possibility, do we think it's plausible, I feel like we are gonna see some absurd Miner that can blow up every boss simultaneously, which will mean we can all start playing the game right?😂

    Cyclone Gladiator DPS help

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:04 AM PDT

Build is really fun to play, albeit clearspeed is pretty meh, but survivability minus the 1 shotting action is baller.

However I need more DPS. I thought about buying a 400+pDPS foil, but I feel like the return on investment wouldn't be that much more beneficial compared to the Paradoxica.

Is there a tree rework that I need? I know I still have about another 5 or 6 levels to go, but I really cant see THAT much more improvement I can do.

Off meta build: CoC Eternity Shroud

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:32 AM PDT

    Hello everyone.

After playing a lot with my Occulist Vortex, now I want to try something new but not following herald meta. So I decided try for the first time an Ice Nova CoC build, but using the Eternity Shroud to make the things more interesting.

I did chance a Shaper Pyre ring, Shaper Cospri and I have a Shaper Atziri's Reflection too.

I want some opinion about the build and some advice, I don't have any PoB to start.

Did worth using Shaper Atziri's Reflection? Or should use another cospri's or shaped scepter?

How is the survival of this type of build for the endgame, specifically bosses?

    PS: I have a budget of 45exa.

    Sorry, typo.
