Why has Cyclone not been reverted back to its original state?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:05 AM PST

It was shown like, a day into the league start that cyclone is broken and desync is super common with it. Shouldn't this have been rolled back to be stun immune again pretty much instantly? It's been awhile, it's still annoying, it's still occasionally getting me killed if I don't instantaneously recognize I've desynced.

QOL : Allow Helena to sell currency recipes

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:28 AM PST

Some currencies can be upgraded via some NPCs in the acts (Yeena, Clarissa, etc.), most famous recipe being 4 jewelers to a fuse, which has been a standard price through leagues. None of those NPCs can be invited to the HO, and none of them have all the recipes available.

As Helena is just sitting there in my HO, allow me to purchase these currencies from her.

[Edit]: lots of people talking about GGG forcing ppl in cities. How about concentrating all these possible purchases in Lily, i/o going through each NPC ? Just have one person deal with all these currency recipes, anyone. Just not Greust

At this point, I think lack of QoL is hurting the game more than lack of content as there's TONS to do. Would you buy a supporter pack for a QoL focused league? Poll inside

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:47 AM PST

    https://www.strawpoll.me/21205406

As we've seen with the recent Cyberpunk news, GGG's largest priority is ensuring that Support pack sales do well. There have been so many posts on QoL improvements that are sorely needed for people to enjoy playing more - but would you really spend money if there was very little new content besides possibly a few reworked systems?

I have played since 3.0 and the things that used to bother me I let slide because I always thought they would be improved at some point, but I am so tired of the amount of clicks needed to pick up loot (as well as other issues). I have not bought a supporter pack in a long time but would gladly do so if we had a league that focused on improving the enjoyment of the game rather than adding another layer of end game content.

Please vote on the poll and let's have a civil discussion!

Three relatively unknown "Gotchas" in POE defensive mechanics

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:31 PM PST

    Introduction

There are many defensive mechanics you can invest in on your character in PoE. While some of these defenses cannot be countered (for example there is no way an enemy can inflict an ailment on a character with immunity or 100% ailment avoidance), others can be countered in specific situations or against specific enemies. Some players may overestimate the effectiveness of these defenses in certain situations, putting their character at risk without knowing, until it is too late.

I will cover three examples of assumptions players might make and attempt to explain why making this assumption could be dangerous.

    Reduced Curse Effect

The assumption: 100% reduced effect of curses is the same as unaffected by curses

Soul Mantle was reworked in a mid-league patch to self-curse with more effect instead of increased effect, so with 100% reduced effect of curses players would be unaffected by the curses applied by Soul Mantle. In 3.11, curses on maps had a level associated with them, which was modified by the map tier and awakener level. Players with 100% reduced effect of curses would be unaffected by these curses on maps. As of 3.12, the map tier and awakener level instead modify the "increased effect" of the curse which is additive with the reduced effect that the player has. In addition, certain map bosses apply curses with a certain level now apply curses with "increased effect" - for example the Crimson Temple map boss which used to read "Curse Enemies with Level 15 Temporal chains on hit" which could be lethal in certain situations.

    Chill effect

The assumption: 100% reduced effect of non-damaging ailments is the same as unaffected by chill

There are certain enemies that can apply increased effect of chill. For example, the maze map boss creates chilled ground with "200% increased effect of chill" which is additive with your total reduced effect of non-damaging ailments. I tested this one myself and saw my action speed modified by -20% even though I had 100% reduced effect of non-damaging ailments.

This stat can also exist on more common enemies. For example, Unstable Wetas on-death Cold Snap has 100% increased effect of chill.

    Minimum Shock Effect

The assumption: 100% reduced shock effect is the same as Unaffected by shock

Modifiers to shock effect, such as X% increased Effect of Shock, apply to the effect of the shock before the minimum or maximum effect is enforced.

So if you have 100% reduced effect of shock but an enemy can apply shock with a minimum effect, that minimum effect would be enforced. Whereas if you are unaffected by shock, the shock would have no effect.

Minimum shock effect is uncommon but does exist. One example is the green lightning volatiles in laboratory heists from Senior Heretech

    Summary

Don't overestimate your defenses. If possible, invest in mechanics that cannot be countered over mechanics that can be countered.

    Breaking the Unbreakable is fun!

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:16 AM PST

I finally got a unique contract, and it was Breaking the Unbreakable.

I wish the entire league was like this. You break in, alarms go off and the enemies are hunting you. Scramble to get all the loot and make it to the escape route.

Instead we have to min-max alert level, stand around with 0 threats for 5 minutes until we get to the end, then run back to the start.

    Really gives me what-could-have-been vibes.

    Heists are boring

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:45 PM PST

I know this is really late to the party but Heist just aren't fun or interesting.

I know a lot of people didn't like delirium but it was equally rewarding, better incorporated into the flow of mapping, and in my opinion was a lot more fun than heist. The best items you can get in heist are basically the trinkets that have 4% regals are exalts which can only be used in more heist.

Additionally, grand heist seem kind of pointless unless you are running a high profit blueprint which I've only gotten by splitting someone else's prime blueprint.

I'm excited for the next expansion because it sounds like they're going to be focused more on affecting the overall mapping experience and I personally find leagues which aren't completely separate content such as heist and harvest more reliably fun.

Extra Life charity SSF Heist private league (with 12/15 difficulty mods unlocked so far)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:30 PM PST

On Saturday November 7th starting at midnight PST, I'm going to begin a 24 hour Extra Life charity stream to raise money for my local Children's Miracle Network hospital, the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore. At the start of the stream I will create a private league with additional difficulty modifiers based on how much is raised beforehand. And for each time I die during the stream I will personally donate another $5 and my employer will match!

    More information here: https://www.extra-life.org/participant/Zithuan

And I'll be streaming here: https://www.twitch.tv/zithuan

So far, this league will have:

    • 20% Increased Monster Damage

    • 40% More Monster Life

    • 20% Increased Monster Speed

    • 2 Additional Monster Projectiles

    • Famine (returning to town doesn't heal life/mana/ES or refill flasks)

    • 40% Reduced Player Resistances

    • No Magic or Rare Items Drop

    • Monsters gain 15% of Physical Damage as Extra Elemental Damage

Anyone who donates any amount will be invited to join the league if desired! Just include your PoE account name with your donation and I'll send out invites as soon as the league is created.

I also made a montage video of all of my death's from last year (spoiler, it's mostly multi-proj mortars): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zhUsAMrEQ4

    Thank you for your support!

Someone removed Gem acquisition info from the Wiki making it hard to find out which vendor to buy Gems from and which quests unlock them.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:21 PM PST

Unless I'm missing something (in which case be gentle with me) this info is no longer on the wiki Gem pages for each gem. I realize that for some people this is a big who cares (just buy from Lilly in act 6 and muddle along until then) but for newer players or aging boomers like myself who can never remember which vendor sells what Gem, or which quest unlocks it, and at which level.

On a related note: could GGG at this point just remove this painful system by perhaps putting all previously unlocked gems on every gem vendor as you progress? So all of the Act 1 Gems are available on Yeena and all her and Neesa's Gems are available on Clarrisa etc. at level appropriate values? Then maybe allow Lilly to sell the partially leveled Gems as well?

If this is seen as too confusing for new players then maybe after Scion is unlocked on an account?

I have 14k hours closing on 15k and I still have to do this dance of "which vendor has it" because I just can't memorize this amount of trivial stuff. There's only so much thats worthy of commiting to memory and apparently that ends at which vendor sells which Gem (to be fair to myself I've seen experienced Racers not remember). In fact to me this might be one of the most annoying minor bits of low QoL BS in the entire game that I frequently suffer from. Certainly after a players first playthrough this system adds absolutely nothing to the experience of the game except the need to go look at the wiki repeatedly... which we can't even do any more (again unless I'm missing something).

Edit: apparently this was added back in after I posted this so thanks for that. But also GGG please consider the second paragraph, I also edited out where I said it felt a bit like wiki vandalism as someone mistook that for bullying the wiki volunteers and thats not what I wanted to imply (I was implying rando's editing out stuff not hard working regulars, but I thought that was the automatic implication of "wiki vandalsim" anyway maybe I'm wrong).
