TFW someone walks past with this on the screen and asks "Hey whats that, looks complicated" and you realize it's easier to say "a strategy game" than try to explain the Atlas.

Despite all the performance and Texture Streaming issues, Echoes/Ritual has had amazing player retention, peaking almost 100k players each day up until recently

Started playing 2 weeks ago, just beat Act 10 for the 1st time

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:42 AM PST

Damn, didn't think I would die that often. 41 times! The only bosses that were really difficult to me were the final Piety encounter (I must've died like 10 times because I didn't know that I could just flame dash through the beam) and 2nd Kitava, died 4-5 times there.

Took me 45 hours to beat the "tutorial", 30 for the first 5 acts, 15 for the last 5. I really took my time :P I did all the quests though and in the beginning I didn't realize I didn't have to clear all the monsters and could just skip a lot of them. I watched Zizaran doing all acts in about 5 hours, so obviously there's lots of time to be gained :D

I really enjoy the game. I tried it 5-6 years ago and couldn't really get into it, now I tried it again after watching Kripp play on league release day. I think I'm addicted, love this game. Now I really regret not getting into it sooner.

I'm watching lots of vids/streams to learn and try to read as much as possible. I think I have invested even more hours learning how the game works than actually playing. Heck, I watched Zizaran's PoE University series (how long was that? 15-20 hours?) before I even started playing. Really helped a lot though. Thanks to Corona I've got lots of time these days. Sooooo much to learn in this game, I like it though! Some of the older league mechanics aren't very intuitive, still have to catch up to some of those.

Now onto maps and the Atlas. Despite watching lots of vids about it I still don't quite understand how it's all working exactly but I got a good idea.

btw: I'm playing a DD Inquisitor that Zizaran made a video and guide about. I like the build and especially like how detailed the guide is. That helped me a lot because creating a build is obviously a very crucial part of PoE that I didn't have to worry about. I'll definitely start creating my own builds once I have a lot more experience but for a beginner like me a guide like that just makes life soooo much easier.

tl;dr: noob likes the game, "brags" about his very limited success and knows that he still has a lot to learn. Noob thinks there's a great community with all the guides and content that make it a lot easier to get into the game.

Serious Props to whoever made vaal side area in frozen cabins

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 11:04 AM PST

So got a random vaal side area in new frozen cabins map and took a good look at the path.

You randomly come across a tunnel like obstruction in the side wall as seen here: https://i.imgur.com/tw1i2cu.jpg

Not only does it look super badass, completely natural, and in the shape of a snake opening it's mouth on the wall (not even sure if intentional or just seeing things).... You then see the "water" coming out of it's mouth that looks almost like black smoke.

Inside the entrance is an edge of a cliff that leads to an entrance along side a frozen river: https://i.imgur.com/EwwKD7g.jpeg

Now if you are like me you probably blast through ignoring the side area completely and moving on but the amount of little detail on something like this is amazing. Seriously @ whoever developed/designed this or if it was a # of people that worked on it. Little things like this that you put love and care into is why I fell in love with this game to begin with.

    Great job, and Thank you.

Thank you GGG for bringing my SSD back to the experience I had on my HDD over 4 years ago...

Thank you so much for "listening" to the reddit community and "fixing" the "issues" with texture streaming. I am so happy that I no longer have 1 second of ugly and instead I get to take 25 seconds to load juiced up maps again. No joke, I really feel the weight of every map I run now as I spend (assuming no deaths and counting portal in and out of the map) roughly 1/5 of my time per map on a load screen. If I am running delirious maps it is even better. There I get to spend around 35-40 seconds loading into the map. I know I should upgrade my $1200 "low end rig" as I only have 16gb of ram, 5GB of vRam, a dedicated PoE SSD, and a current gen CPUE/motherboard. Once I get my next stimulus check I should be able to upgrade to a "mid-tier" $3000 system so I can spend just 15 seconds on load screen. :)

game is trying to say something

I haven't crashed all day, just to be greeted by a grim reminder.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:15 PM PST

GGG, please return texture streaming for fast loading as an option. Some of us are okay with low-res textures for a few seconds instead of longer loading screen.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 09:38 AM PST

I understand that some people are against this, so please make it an optional setting.
