Harvestcrafting is the best thing to happen to Path of Exile. (imo) Posted: 09 Aug 2020 08:26 PM PDT I haven't used this sub in ages, but I wanted to drop by to leave this post here in the hopes that it might influence GGG's decision on Harvest's impending potential to go core to some extent. I think Harvestcrafting is, quite literally, the single biggest improvement to Path since I began playing it in Bestiary league. It highlights what I have always considered to be a huge problem in PoE: the unbelievably unapproachable crafting. Crafting is essentially 100% RNG in Vanilla. You have tools to influence the RNG and lean it in the direction you want, but they're limited and expensive with the potential to be massive currency dumps without crafting even a single useful item. A lot of people in the community will give newer players the advice "don't craft for yourself", explaining that you'll never make money if you craft items you want instead of crafting for profit. I think that's a real shame. The ability to target specific crafts and make truly powerful, crazy items is incredibly rewarding and, genuinely, feels like it's balanced. Harvest still rewards you a lot for playing high tier content and requires a monumental effort out of the player for them to make a perfect, insane, best-in slot item. Never in my life playing this game did I think I'd be able to craft even 1 item I'd end up using in the final build, but now almost any piece of gear I want feels like it's achievable for me, even if I have to invest hundreds of hours to reach it. I wouldn't consider myself a slacker either, I put hundreds of hours into every league, yet I've never once considered that crafting something good was within my reach. I think the changes Harvest introduces to crafting are really, really fun and healthy for the game. It allows players to make items that THEY care about, not just things to be sold on the market, while providing a new kind of chase in the game. I've spent about 300 hours this league trying to craft my starter the perfect double-influenced chest. All white sockets, 30% quality, special implicit, all T1 mods. I'm not nearly as fast or as knowledgeable as others doing it, but I'm saving something like 14ex by putting in the work myself and the process of refining an item for exactly what I want is extremely satisfying. It's the only thing keeping me playing, long after I would have usually burnt out and stopped for the league. I'd love to see a shift in the way we think about items in PoE post-Harvest, I'd love to see more ways to influence crafting and really open it up to players who don't play as often, who aren't as informed and interested in learning all the fine details. I truly believe that it improves the experience a lot, I've always found the vanilla crafting experience very lacking and it's a shame that a huge majority of players never get the chance to experience it. For all the issues Harvest had, it's probably my favorite league so far and I sincerely hope GGG takes a hard look at how itemization is improved by this system. The more things that players can do for themselves, the better. I've never been this excited to theorycraft builds and find new ways to take advantage of the power gear is able to provide and I'll sorely miss Harvest if it goes the way of Synthesis.
