How to farm Valdo's Rest, and how to self-curse on a budget.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 12:19 AM PST

Have you ever wanted to get big? I mean really, really big. Big like your favorite streamer; 300 feet tall and exploding entire screens with ease? Look no further because we're gonna start blasting off.

There's a reason that Headhunter is one of the most coveted items in the game; it enables entire styles of gameplay not found elsewhere, and as a base, is a lot of damn fun. The issue though, is that for a lot of players, its price and rarity is just flat out prohibitive to acquiring one. Today we're going to fake it till we make it, and start farming while having fun.

Valdo's Rest is probably one of the most popular current farming spots, and for good reason: its Ominous Arrival and Diplomatic Escort Atlas Passives absolutely shit out Ancient and Exalted Shards. Our goal is to optimize and abuse this mechanic to farm as fast as we can, and for that we're going to need all the help we can get.

    • Atlas Passives

Ominous Arrival and Diplomatic Escort are both absolute must-haves for this strategy to work, but fortunately that's basically all you need to get started.

    • Double or Triple Favoriting the best maps.

In order to favorite maps you must first complete all the maps in a region, this one being Valdo's Rest. To double favorite you must complete all their atlas bonuses, and to triple favorite you must complete their awakening bonus. I suggest doing all 3 and favoriting one of Canyon, Arid Lake, or Ashen Wood, with Canyon and Arid Lake being the best 2 of the 3.

    • A good filter.

A good filter is absolutely a must-have for this farming strategy, as it poops out hundreds of tiny useless shards that both clog up your screen, and slow you down immensely. I opt to remove all the small currencies, and to highlight Canyon/Arid Lake/Ashen Wood with a special color to easily identify them. If you would like to use my filter made especially for farming Harbingers in Canyon, then Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+V this pastebin into a notepad, and save it as a .filter file.

    • The proper atlas setup for map sustain.

In order to properly sustain maps of a certain region, you will need to isolate that region as the only region of a certain tier of maps. This can be done one of two ways. The first way is to remove all your watchstones from all other regions, or at least enough that your region is the highest region by at least 2 stones worth of separation from any other region. The other way is to do the opposite, so that your region is the lowest region by 2 stones of separation from every other region. I generally run my Canyons with 4 watchstones, so I make sure that every other region has no more than 2 watchstones socketed in them.

    • Watchstones

The best watchstones for this farming strategy are going to be 3 "Harbingers in areas have 11-15% chance to drop an additional stack of Currency Shards" and 1 "Harbingers in areas drop rarer value currency shards" Platinum stones. Saving up for the rarer value currency shards watchstone will be your absolute best bet, it is the single largest increase in your currency per hour. Be very sure that your platinum stone is specifically a Valdo's Rest stone, and that it is not a limited use unique stone.

    • A fast build.

A good build is vital to maintain good currency per hour, with the best being builds that can not only clear the Harbinger packs quickly, but also clear the rest of the map quickly for map sustain purposes. A build that gets faster as the map goes on is ideal, which is where self-curse builds come in to the fray.

    • How it works:

At its basest explanation, self-cursing is about using the Shackles of the Wretched gloves to reflect Temporal Chains back on to yourself when you curse enemies with it. Why do we want this? To extend our buffs durations as long as possible. The important line is "Other effects on cursed enemies expire 40% slower". We want to scale this 40% as high as possible, and combined with another 20% slow from Solstice Vigil, hit the 75% slow cap. Due to how time expiry is calculated in Path of Exile, 75% slower is not 75% longer buffs, but 400% longer buffs, because time is expiring 25% of its normal speed. This time slow effects anything that is applied to the player, including all timed buffs like Headhunter and Inspired Learning buffs, and even flasks. One issue that comes up is that Temporal Chains also has a line that stipulates that it has 50% less effect on Players, which means that to scale our 40% slow (20%) to 55%, we need at least 175% increased Temporal Chains Curse Effect. We get as close to this cap as we can on a relative budget, and reap massive rewards from it. In a recent patch however, the Hexproof stolen mod now applies to the player, which when stolen, will make our Temporal Chains not affect us. The workaround it to use Occultist, who can apply curses to Hexproof enemies, as well as giving a lot of Curse effect.

    • The build:

The build I've picked is a Lightning Arrow Occultist. It has fantastic clear, scales incredibly well with Headhunter and Inspired Learning Buffs, and is in my opinion easier to clear with than a Blade Vortex build. This build is a modified version of Somayd's Lightning Arrow Deadeye from Heist League, but with a completely revamped tree, a new class and ascendancy, and gearing changes for self-curse. This build is easy to gear, as it relies mostly on easily attainable uniques, but has some room to grow into an absolute beast of a Valdo's Rest Farmer.

The gear will cost around 20ex in total (including 2 Inspired Learning Jewels, or 10ex without them) and will allow you start farming Valdo's at a relatively quick speed from the get-go, with room to grow into better gear and even faster farming speeds.

    Gear cost breakdown:

1 8 Passives Large Cluster Jewel (2 of Devastator/Calamitous/Martial Prowess) - 5c (Getting all 3 will up your DPS, but will cost around 2-3ex) (Also make sure to get the Bow Damage implicit)

1 4 Passives Dark Discourse Medium Cluster Jewel -5c

    2 5 Passives Dark Discourse/Whispers of Death Medium Cluster Jewels - 5ex

    6l Death's Opus - 1ex

    Solstice Vigil - 20c

    Bisco's Leash - 5c

    Kaom's Roots - 5c

Shackles of The Wretched - 5c

    1 Taming Ring - 1ex

Frostbite on Hit Ring - 1ex

    Hyrri's Ire - 5c

Corrupted Voidfletcher (Make sure that the corruption removes the pierce) - 50c

20% Temp Chains Curse Effect Helmet - 20c

    23% quality Temporal Chains - 50c

    Dying Sun - 10c

    2 Inspired Learning Jewels - 11.6ex

    Total 20.9 Ex

Upgrades to make as you go along (in no specific order)

    3rd Inspired Learning

    Awakened Added Cold Damage Support

    Awakened Chain Support

Awakened Elemental Damage with Attacks Support

    Crit Cinderswallow Urn

30% Temporal Chains Curse Effect Helmet

30% Temporal Chains Curse Effect Fractal Thoughts (After getting this item, make sure that your Dexterity is higher than your intelligence, and if not, take the 30 Dexterity Node near Throatseeker)

Elemental Weakness on Hit Corrupted Shackles of the Wretched

    Headhunter

I've recently got Enki's Arc Witch to level 90+. Really enjoyed the build but now feel ready to repurpose it.

Does anyone have any recommendations to what I can re-roll it too?

Can no longer progress. I have tried everything. I need a build that can do 10 boss fights with my eyes closed and my monitor off while im in the other room, apparently.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:44 PM PST

    It's the fucking performance.

My build is fine, defenses and damage are solid. It's not like I can facetank bosses, but I am unfortunatly unable to play my build like it's meant to be played, with positioning and paying attention to things because I literally can't. My computer, which is not shitty by any stretch, apparently cannot handle this 8 year old ARPG, which is utter crap.

I'm fine up to like T16 maps that aren't complete trash. Anything with big packs, lots of projectiles, basically anything that taxes the computer is a no-go. I cant play my build when every single time I move a screen length across the map my computer goes "WWHHHHHHYUUUUUUUUURURRRRRRRRRRPOOOOOOOHGODFUUUUUUCCCCKKKWWWHHHHHHRHRRRRRRRRRR" like seventeen Chinook helicopters just landed inside my fucking bedroom. It's literally frightening, I feel like it's going to fucking explode.

I have tried *every single possible fucking settings* configuration, I have run the damn game at 800x600 with the lowest possible fucking settings and it still does it, if I come across a big pack that the game has to render suddenly the game shits itself. Ryzen5 3600, RX580 8G, 32gb Ram, SSD, great internet, It's not a supercomputer but this is just absolutely insane levels of struggle for what I'm asking it to do.

Sorry. Rant over. I just for the first time have an actual goal, I really REALLY want that goddamn Ritual character effect, and for the first league since I started playing it this build of mine is at a really REALLY STRONG POINT AND I CANT FUCKING PLAY IT. AAAAAAHAHHHHH GOD DAMNIT .

    Sorry again.

So, any build suggestions that allow me to completely ignore this game's mechanics and difficulty since I don't have the luxury of being able to interact with them anymore at this point in the game anyway? I am at 20/24, I have 4 fucking zones to finish 10 bosses in and then I'll be at 22/24 with just a few unique maps to run until I'm at 23/24 and who knows what that last one will be, but I'll get it.

I just can't do the 10 boss fights on this build, computer freezes up and I die as soon as the second wave of bosses spawn, and after that every time I enter the portal its just freeze town and death. I fight through the 2-3 fps and lay my damage down before I die and so far I've been able to squeeze it by on the last damn portal. It again is so completely fucking frustrating to a degree I cannot properly express to be hindered entirely by the fucking game's shitty performance. SO DEFEATED. FUck. Sorry again.

Edit: I have like 20ex, could be more if needed. Would like to level into red maps if possible.

    Thanks!

Chieftain Blade Vortex as a leaguestarter?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 03:12 AM PST

Pending patch notes, I'm considering a blade vortex Chieftain as my starter. While I have a good idea of how the build will look like at early maps, I have no experience actually leveling one. The early parts especially seem rough as Marauder lacks dexterity and spell scaling near its start.

Does anyone have experience with league starting as a blade vortex Chieftain?

Help me find my last build

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:05 AM PST

I'm looking for a build with decent clear speed and bossing capability with a total cost of 10 - 15 ex.

I'm not interested in oneshotting bosses or incredible clear speed, just a well balanced build.

Tried BB BF but it's not my forte, also Melee warcry spam is strong but not so fluid in my opinion

I'd like something ranged, with around 10M sDPS.

    What do you guys suggest?

    How to assign 128/123 passives?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:49 AM PST

Hi guys, so I was looking at Indigon Pathfinders on Poeninja and found this profile.

    https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds/char/Noob/Hunt

When I import it into Fork POB it says 128/123 passives assigned. What am i missing here?

Also, would this be a good build to try and replicate for Indigon BV PF?

    Thanks

Help me decide: bv or spectres?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:35 AM PST

    Hello all!

I'm in a bit of trouble choosing my last build for the league, I will start a new job next week so the time I can play will be much less for the rest of the league, but I still would like to do 36 challenges.

As a starter I have 20 ex in the bank atm to jump start the build, and I have like 1500 hours in poe, so I understand some things in the game :D I was thinking about going pure spectres (GhazzyTv edition) or cold bv pf indigon shenanigans. I have a necro I can respec or my current TR PF cause I dont want to level another char. So my question is: which of the 2 builds above would perform better with my 20 ex starting budget and which would be more comfortable to complete at least 36 challenges? I would like to min-max the hell out of this build so im a bit leaning towards BV (headhunter usage when i will be able to afford it etc. ) but also I like the half-afk playstyle of spectres and the boss damage just looks nuts. If u have any experience with the 2 builds mentioned I would gladly hear your opinion.

Thanks for reading my wall of text and stay sane exiles!

Poison Blade Vortex: I'm don't know where to get more Life!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:18 AM PST

    Hello Guys and Girls,

as the Title says, i have a big problem how to sustain high tier maps, im following this guide: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2714125 and can't seem to get anywhere near 4,5k HP, im currently sitting at 3,1k.

I know that i could get max Life on my Chest but i got the Chest rather Cheap (8 Ex) and i really like the Explosions Mod, im currently trying to craft a max Life / increased max Life Belt but i'm kinda unlucky with Harvest Crafting atm. Same with Cluster Jewels.

Maybe you guys (and ofc girls) have some advice how to improve and i would greatly appreciate that :)

Cold flicker strike slayer- gear options, ascendancy node choices and cold conversion questions.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 11:24 PM PST

Hello, I am planning to play my last build of the league and chose a cold flicker strike since I like ice shatter. I had some few questions about this build.

    1. I am planning to use a rare chest with frenzy on hit instead of replica farrul's fur. My reasoning is, I plan to take Masterful form which will replace the farrul's fur. I can get life and an explode mod ( and maybe crit chance) as well. What do you guys think? Is it worth doing this or should I just take farrul's form and perhaps pick another node?

    2. About weapon choices: I see some do dual wield with two swords, one sword+shield combo, two handed sword or ax. What do you guys prefer?

    3. Ascendancy nodes: what ascendancy nodes would you all recommended to take? Right now I plan to get headsman, overwhelm, brutal fervor and masterful form

    4. I looked up some cold flicker strike players in poe ninja and I seem to not be able to find any way they convert their physical damage to cold damage. Except a node in the tree+ the mod that converts 25% physical to cold. How necessary is converting my physical dmg to cold dmg on this build?

I'm super excited to play flicker strike and slayer so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Cold BV too squishie to Physical damage - Need stronger build

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 11:10 PM PST

    Good morning,

While I feel like a god against elemental damage (weee, triple Beyond gods attacking me, it tickles), I go squish sometimes against packs of t15 Harbingers which is kinda embarrassing. While I could keep throwing ex into this build, I've realized I'm not a very good player.

    A) What's a good facetank build that's also strong against Harbingers? (I have about 50ex worth of gear I can sell for this new build)

    B) What do I need to buy (and cost) to level as Hollow Palm since I'm short on time to level?

    C) https://pastebin.com/RceWBf5q in case I'm missing something super obvious that explains my squishiness. I have a 2nd sceptre identical to the first, but I prefer the attempt at tankiness for now.

I'm looking for a good build with the goal of getting to maps in the upcoming gauntlet. That means a specifically tanky and high damage leveling build, but I don't care if it falls off later game. I probably won't ascent until level 50 ish because I'm scared of dying in the lab, so something that doesn't rely on early ascention to be strong. Any recommendations?
