    Gamer's Thumb

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 07:20 AM PDT

Greetings r/pathofexile! My name is Melissa, and I am an Occupational Therapist who specializes in hand therapy/ treatment of the hand and upper extremity injuries.

Since the onset of COVID-19, I've observed a spike in individuals reporting "Gamer's thumb", involving wrist and thumb pain. I am interested in conducting a survey to better understand how occupational therapy can better support this community, and hopefully decrease prevalence of repetitive stress injuries such as Gamer's Thumb. I have particular interest in thumb, hand, and wrist mechanics/ergonomics while gaming with handheld controllers, and would appreciate insight from this subreddit to better understand your gaming needs. Even if you are not experiencing thumb or wrist pain, I would still appreciate your input to see if you have any feedback on how to improve handheld controller devices. Thank you for your time, and happy gaming! :)

Remember there is no advantage to buying a supporter pack early

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Saw it a bunch of times after the controversies on last leagues launch (ascendancy changes spectre changes not enough significant buffs etc) and people being enraged they bought a supporterpack for this league they are now "forced" to hate. You don't gain anything from buying the supporterpack early. You can buy it on launchday/day after launch etc and gain all of the benefits. Either don't complain about buying it or wait until you can make an informed decision.

I hope 3.14 improves Maven loot table.

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 06:03 AM PDT

I think it's generally agreed that regardless of you think Maven fight is well designed or not, her loot drops are really disappointing. Only great drop is Maven orb. Her uniques are either niche in uses or not that great, and elevated sextant is so boring as a drop. Compared to Sirus which while features a fight many people dislike actually has amazing loot that can be dropped. All the awakened gems are desirable to some degrees. Awakener orb is extremely useful. His uniques are all useful and potentially amazing like Hands of High Templar if you got lucky with vaal orbs. Some unique watchstones are meh due to newly introduced craftable watchstones but some still have their uses like increasing map tier, and thread of hope is such a great item. Every time I fight Sirus, there's an excitement of getting something really exciting to drop, like a nice awakened gem. With Maven, it's pretty much Maven orb or nothing. (This is especially even more so in SSF, where Sirus has many drops that I'd kill to get in SSF, but Maven, nothing I really need from her)

Really hope 3.14 improves her loot table. Makes it more exciting and enticing to do the fight. Take hints from Uber Elder and Sirus, where endgame boss has a chance to drop something truly amazing, but have other great items and uniques that are all desirable.

'More damage' support skill gems are harming proclaimed skill versatility

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 12:46 PM PDT

Basically title. Everytime I wanna combine some really interesting support gem combo I feel like I am punished for doing so because in the end raw damage is just much more effective.

I would rather see higher base damage of skill gems and using support gems to modify their functionality over more or less damage.

EDIT: I'm talking about skill gems like Brutality, Melee Physical Damage, Controlled Destruction, Elemental focus...

Release next performance patches now before 3.14?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:30 PM PDT

Use the next two weeks of a dead league to live-beta test any new performance updates we might see in 3.14. No new content necessary. This is just to avoid issues like we've had in the past 2 releases with performance/crashes. I'm sure this gets lost in new, but.... Maybe not with some good rng?

RTX 2070super vs some regret orbs

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 05:24 AM PDT

GGG, PLEASE make sure that AMD users don't have another league start similar to Ritual's.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:37 PM PDT

At the start of 3.13 Ritual league, I know that myself and many other AMD users were plagued with a crash along with an error message that stated, "Exception Map: Not enough memory resources are available to complete this operation.". To my knowledge, there was no workaround to this crash until it was officially patched by GGG after a week or two. This crash had almost zero consistency to it, sometimes not happening for hours, and sometimes happening every few minutes. It made the game extremely frustrating to play, and I REALLY hope that proper testing for AMD hardware is performed before the 3.14 league start.

    Strike skills in 3.14?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 08:37 AM PDT

What are the chances strike skills are brought somewhere near slam parity in 3.14?

Im not a huge fan of the 500% slam multiplier shenanigans and would of course prefer a unique approach to each gem while retaining similar power level. I believe slams are in a healthy place overall and strike skills should be at least in the same ballpark. The easy way out is to omega buff ancestral cry with a damage multiplier which I would be ok with.

Reflect Recovery: Crown of the Pale King, Thousand Teeth Temu and the Anvil in 2021

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 02:08 PM PDT

    Greetings Exile,

so i toyed around with some really old and honestly never used uniques (well except one) and the results were better than expected. Well i just like testing stuff that nobody uses and sqeeze the good things out of them. So here we are.

Those items are Crown of the Pale King, Thousand Teeth Temu and The Anvil.

Besides some decent life rolls, phys life leech and some other goodies, the main thing they offer are:

    Crown of the Pale King:

30% of Damage you Reflect to Enemies when Hit is gained as Life

Reflects 100 to 150 Physical Damage to Melee Attackers

    Thousand Teeth Temu:

10% of Damage you Reflect to Enemies when Hit is gained as Life

Reflects 1 to 1000 Physical Damage to Attackerd on Block

    The Anvil:

Reflects 240 to 300 Physical Damage to Attackers on Block

+3% to maximum Chance to Block Attack Damage

8% Chance to Block Attack Damage

+(34-48) Life gained when you Block

The combination results in blocked hits reflect physical damage which in return grant us life.

I wasn´t able to properly test how it works against spells since it states "reflects *** to ATTACKERS on block". I assume it´s any enemy that deals damage to me, others read melee/range attacks only. Monsterpacks are mostly mixed and had no one to pvp test around me O:

Nowadays it is easy to scale with a low of physical or generic increased/more damage taken modifier. Player stats don´t increase the damage like "increased physical damage", only debuffs on enemies.

    Some of them are:

Poacher´s Mark (-20% physical damage reduction), Punishment (88% increased damage taken while on low life), Vulnerability (39% inc phys dmg taken), Flesh and Stone + Maim (30% inc phys dmg taken), War Banner (11% inc phys dmg taken), Pride (39% MORE physical damage taken), Shocks, Cinderswallow Urn/Bottled Faith (10%) and others i missed.

Classes also offer bonis to all/phys inc dmg taken like Chieftains totem node or a gladi node.

On top Curse/Aura/flask effect and so on scales related gems or items.

Then we got other items that offer extra reflect damage like Bramblejack/Wall of Brambles, Basalt Flask, Flat Phys reflect against melee attacks and so on.

I don´t consider them as too gimmicky, a basalt ofc always works.

Anvil and Thousand Teeth Temu work against ranged enemies as well and are already enough for a solid recovery.

    So i did the math

    Reflect Items:

reflects 100 - 150 phys to melee // 125 average - Crown of the Pale King

    reflects 1 - 1000 phys to attacker // 500.5 average - Thousand Teeth Temu

    reflects 240 - 300 phys to attacker // 270 average - The Anvil

    This results in:

    895.5 reflect melee on block

    770.5 reflect attacker on block

increased physical damage taken modifier used:

1.30 increased multiplier lvl 20 Flesh and Stone + Maim

1.39 increased multiplier lvl 20 Vulnerability

    1.69 increased damage taken combined

    more physical damage taken

1.39 more multiplier lvl 20 pride

    2103 melee block reflect damage

    1809 attacker block reflect damage

    40% recovery from reflected damage

841 average life on melee block

723 average life on attacker block

Sounds good, but enemy armor is a thing.

For Calculations i used this really old calculator, numbers might be wrong nowadays

    https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/3crbrx/armor_mitigation_calculator_for_20_uses_new_armor/

I checked some monsters on PoeDB and most monster had 16161 Armor on monsterlevel 84

2103 melee block reflect against 16161 armor = 1189 phys reflect damage

1809 attacker block reflect against 16161 armor = 955 phys reflect damage

    40% recovery from reflected damage

475 average life on melee block

382 average life on attacker block

5% life on block shield with 5000 hp = 250 hp on block as a comparison

The reflect damage like mentioned can be increased more, but thats some pretty standard aura/curse setup on some maxblock bleed/impale glad for excample.

This is all assuming that the armor values/calculations are still the same.

Sirus on the other side has double the armor with 32322 and 66% reduced curse effect which results in

252 average life on melee block

196 average life on attacker block

5% life on block shield with 5000 hp = 250 hp on block as a comparison

Standard and Guardians are somewhere in the middle of those, too lazy to calc em too :X

Ofc mapmods/sextants can affect the reflected damage as well like endurance charged, increased physical damage reduction, auras, monstermods etc.

What do we learn from those numbers?

The life recovery combo is pretty strong at the start of maps and falls flat at endgame bossing.

Lower mob level result in way lower armor values and higher recovery than listed here.

It is nice in builds that already use physical debuffs that want cheap (3 chaos total VERY early) recovery on block to gear up on other slots before buying/crafting some surrender or recovery on block shield with maxres or other goodies. This is the case for SC and HC Trade.

Lets be honest, in the end you want some abyssus or other stuff on the helm slot, some juicy amu and a recovery shield especially on SC.

But until then this combo is pretty powerful as it is unrelated to your own healthpool, but later scaled down by monsterlevel/bosses.

Use this and invest your first exalts in other itemslots if you can ;)

Enchants on the helmet are non existant, but corruptions on the shield no problem.

It is also important to note that the recovery can vary a low from sometimes 140 life to idk 900 life on block.

It´s mildly interesting that this stuff got buffed over the years, nobody noticed it and now it´s useable.

    TL:DR

Combo is stronger than recovery on block/surrender early in the league or character progression, very cheap for 3c total, but falls off in power in high tier maps and Endgame Bossfights due to higher enemy armor scaling.

Mainly useable for impale or bleed builds and has a cost of 3 itemslots.

Also here is a video running around in some low tier and t16 map doing nothing with a respecced character using vaal pact and no real additional layers of defence besides max block and this with random gear on top for the showcase:

[PSA] You can bypass Farrul Fur charges diabolical sound

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 07:01 AM PDT

Few leagues ago I played Farrul build with 11 Power charges, when charges expires makes an annoying sound, so i looked for a way to solve this without resign the game sound...

    "+1 to Minimum Power charge"

That mod can be found in the tree " Disciple of the Forbidden " In crusader Shields or as a suffix Craft in the bench for rings.

Here is how this works, the horrible sound appears when the character lose all charges from a type, having +1 to minimum to power allows to never lose all charges hence no sound is played.

EDIT: You probably don't want go that route if you play Discharge.
