PSA for GGG: Damage Over Time is Not an Ailment. Fix Hypothermia

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 05:32 AM PDT

Went to bed heated, woke up heated. This is beyond ridiculous.

Now that Hypothermia is best with Bleed (physical) and Ignite (fire), should we start with a dictionary?

Or maybe we should just link the wiki, since that's where they balance from now.

These nerfs would've been much more exciting in tandem with other reworks, like Loot, Crafting, or Atlas

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 07:48 AM PDT

The vision of the game to be a slower, more hardcore experience is fine. People will still zoom, but zooming will be an accomplishment, sure.

Even if the loot system wasn't 'better', it would still be worth diving into to see how the new economy and grinding strategies worked with the new slower gameplay expectations. If we're getting items in a new way we can reevaluate their value from scratch, instead of just getting them same way but slower.

But the current loot system still only rewards 1000's of enemies per map in any reasonable way. The current crafting system is still all RNG. The current endgame system is a lot of maps to get an opportunity for endgame fights - not just the first time but every time.

Adjusting my builds, playing PoB, etc all of that could be great if the game looked like it was changing to compensate, but at the moment I'm looking at the same grind - extended with power creep in mind - with fewer tools to do it.

I don't care about damage nerfs, but why the making-things-generic-and-boring nerfs?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 09:13 AM PDT

Disclaimer: I support combating power creep and slower, more tactical boss fights.

But PoE is the best ARPG on the market right now for 1 big reason: it's completely customizable, and promotes creativity. You aren't locked into a class with certain skills. It has hundreds of skills, supports, uniques, and passive nodes. Being able to do weird 5head shit and theorycraft things is what makes the game great. And I feel this is starting to be killed in these patch notes when I see things like gem quality changes and awakened gem changes.

Now, gem quality just... gives 10% increased damage? Who cares? Just remove GCPs and quality at that point. A lot of interesting, unique stuff- like Ancestral Call finding targets farther away, for example, or +1 curse Awakened Hextouch, was removed. Alternate qualities are awesome! Awakened gems are awesome! They promote interesting, sometimes very expensive upgrades to builds and embody both concepts of creativity and grind for better gear in PoE.

Even things like halving Earthquake spell damage quality or Kinetic Bolt cast speed alternate quality just feels bad. "Here's an interesting way to scale your skills that isn't generic but can incorporate weird things like a totally different passive tree or uniques like Indigon or Repentance gloves- oh never mind, we're nerfing or getting rid of that."

Nerf damage, fine. Nerf speed even, fine. But leave the interesting, unique, creative stuff in the game, please. Don't make it more boring and generic with each patch. It's why this game is so good.

I'm still probably going to league start so I can tell my children I was there, but man or woman, I am not looking forward to it.

EDIT: because this is blowing up a bit—I'm not happy about how it seems like 3.15 is going to play, but (a) it's possible I'll be wrong and (b) this could be a good step in the long-term for the game even if the league itself is a bit rough. Path of Exile is the first arpg I've played since the original diablo, and at least so far it's been a great ride, so some benefit of the doubt feels appropriate. Fingers crossed!

Some Guy Spent $1k Dollars Making This Card

    Posted: 20 Jul 2021 08:48 PM PDT

I wish the 3.16 to be 1 week delayed and in that time i want to see Chris and other devs play and stream their game. SSF and trade. On league launch.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 01:18 AM PDT

Many of us thinks that GGG doesnt play their own game. Latest fuckup with Ballista Totem wiki nerf is just another hint Chrisis disconnection from players and many more.

Chris toled many times he doesnt have time to play and when he does, he plays SSF and not getting to end game.

I wish to see him and some other devs playing and streaming PoE at league launch. See their reactions. Play 2-4 hrs a day for a whole week. Let them experience trade legue, trading currency, grinding atlas, experiencing visual clutter and other stuff we constantly pointing out.

And you know what, make it without using NeverSinks filter, let them make their own smiles in evil

When you intentionally drag to make player play longer, they won’t. Just my thought.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 08:58 AM PDT

Look at WoW , it's a hot example of trying to drag player's progression so they'll stick to the game longer.

    Seems like it didn't work.

Also, how is making player weaker going to make em play more?

The two season where harvest was good , I played multiple character, tried many different build because I can get my items up more ezly, I deal more dmg, farm faster and it feels good.

Last season I played one character, already burned out when I havent even got to 80% on min-maxing.

It might be just me tho, probably lot of people being opposite of that.

anyway IMO If they wanna tune the pace of the game, do it on POE2 and that'll be fine, Poe is just too full of mechanics about clear and speed AND we've played it that way for so long.

GGG can make the game whatever they want it to be, but I just don't think it's a good decision to make this kind of change after so many league.

Plus it seems like the way they're doing it is by tuning every number about dmg down and everything about mana up, not gonna test it what so ever.
